This thread is mostly about gauging the interest in a competition involving the glorious sport of table tennis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_Tennis), or ping pong as some may know it (or wiff waff if you're odd).

Hosting

I'd be hosting it, of course! It'd probably be run as a knock-out cup, keeping in tradition with usual table tennis tournaments. I haven't worked out a schedule yet, as I'm currently between jobs, and things are a bit disorganized here at the moment, but I'd definitely be able to get scores up daily, it'd just be a question of when during the day.

Scorinating

Scorinating will be done through NSFS, using a system I figured out. I'll scorinate the rallies of a match individually, whoever gets the higher score in a rally sim obviously wins that rally. Eventually, we'll hit a point where someone wins the match and, voila, we have our result. Roleplay will be an incredibly important factor in this first tourney, and, trust me, it's a matter of quality over quantity when it comes to my judging. I'll also employ a simple score modifier of -1, 0 or +1.

Organization

How the event will be organized pretty much depends on how many people I get signing up. It's a toughy, but I'll come to a decision when sign-ups close when I get SIXTEEN NATIONS signed up.

Do we only have one player from each nation? What about male or female competitors?

At the moment, I'm going to say yes. This may change closer to the signup date, if I only get 8 nations interested or if I figure I can handle scorinating twice as many matches (which, actually, would be pretty easy to do).

My one fear about having you all enter two players each would be 'what if we get a same-nation final'? Personally, I'd be fine with that, as it could and does happen in real life, but I'm aware some people may feel a bit cheated if Nation X gets first and second place.

However, if a majority are happy to play along with such possible scenarios, then I'd be more than happy to open it up to two players per nation.

And, of course, any sex is allowed to join. Unless you were asking if I'd be hosting a mens and a womens championship? I could do that, but hosting seperate-sex championships just seems a bit redundant nowadays on NS (see Womens World Cup, for instance).

I was actually asking whether you were having a separate women's and men's event. It's your call, I know football has gone mix-sex but I'm fairly sure the Olympics still had separate competitions and I know the last tennis competition that was to take place but never did (the Wilbury Championships) was going to have two separate competitions.

I'm just going to stick to a single co-ed event. And I'll probably open it up to two players per nation, but for now, I just want to see what kind of numbers I'll be getting.

At this stage, no. I'm still hoping I'll get two more nations signing up, and I don't particually want to allow puppets in the first championship of the sport.

Heh, you could also try to organise it like a real table-tennis team competition. Three players each team, playing ten games. All three against each other and a double match with the best two table tennisers. Quite some time ago i played competition like that... Btw, did i say i'm signing up?

This makes 7 and, as I doubt I'll be getting 16 nations interested, I'll close sign ups with the next nation to sign up.

Aye, I might extend the sign-ups for 3 more days, just to see. 16 nations, 32 players, it'd be a lot easier to organize, but really, I can work with any number, so the more the merrier, really.
