Within Rennidan, there is a secret.
This secret takes the form of a laboratory.
This laboratory sits several hundred feet within the large monolith that is Mount Rennida.
It is not government funded, nor is it publically known.
It is, however, home to...

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/rennidan/TeamX.png

In 1943, twelve scientists left the general population with the ideal that handball is the ultimate sport on Earth. Shunned by their colleagues for their extremist views on how they could better the sport, the scientists shut themselves away within the stone walls of Mount Rennida. There, they planned their experiments and took "volunteers" from a local village to use as their subjects.

Years later, and we are now upon the ninth generation of handball "players" to have graced the laboratory and machinery of the scientists, and, luckily for them, as their experiments come to a close, the first World Cup of Handball is announced.

Time to get going then

PLAYERS

Goalkeeper – Buddy 4: 15, 6'6".
Buddy 4 was taken from his village at the tender age of eight, and has become one of the scientist’s star pupils. With hands and feet three times the size of a normal human being, this player is incredibly agile and resilient, somewhat resembling the movement pattern of a monkey.

Centre – Jose 2: 14, 6'8".
Jose 2 was a latecomer to the project, turning up when he was 12. However, the scientists found him to be a prime receiver of tests, and now, thanks to some slight genetic tinkering, the 14 year old male has limitless energy, and is capable of running up and down the pitch for the rest of his life, non-stop, if he has to.

Left Back – Chuck 8: 15, 6'11"
Chuck 8, who is 7's twin, is one of the larger specimens. Defensively able, he also possesses a precision throw which can be likened to that of a sniper. He has very much the same abilities as his twin.

Right Back - Chuck 7: 15, 6'11"
Chuck 7, who is 8's twin, is one of the larger specimens. Defensively able, he also possesses a precision throw which can be likened to that of a sniper. He has very much the same abilities as his twin.

Circle Runner – Liz 1: 17, 5'9".
Liz is a special one. She looks to be the weakest of the players, with her diminutive stature and the fact that she is the only female on the team. However, her creative prowess is outstanding, and she can often be more of a playmaker than Jose 2. She is, however, prone to violent outbursts due to some tinkering in her brain, and as such, she is also one of the most dangerous players.

Left Winger - Mikhail 3: 15, 6'7".
Mikhail 3 is the first ever foreign subject to be used, but the third Mikhail (it's a popular name in Rennidan). He has been modified to be able to push the boundaries of speed, meaning he is fast enough to be one of the forerunners of an Olympic sprint. However, we here at Team X believe sprinting is for pansies, and, as such, have better applied Mikhail's ability to God's own sport, handball.

Right Winger - Dave 6: 10, 7'11".
Dave is perhaps one of the more obvious examples of our genetic tinkering. At the tender age of eight we managed to make him six foot three inches tall... and, well... he never really stopped growing... Which we think is excellent.

HANDBALL ROSTER

So, Newmanistan is going to try this handball thing. There are no professional leagues in the Empire, and those who are heading to Miroxia have been selected by a panel of supposed “experts” on the sport based on various games they may have seen here and there. Most of them being collegiately. Maybe with a good run they could generate more interest of their sport within the country.

THE ROCKET REPORT

PARTY CRASHERS

Miroxia- They had been waiting a long time for this in Miroxia. Their chance to show their country to the world as nine other nations brought their top handball players to participate in the first annual World Cup of Handball. Fans jam-packed the stadium, waving the Miroxian flag with pride. It was time for their team to play and they were ready for a night of partying. They brought the world here, now it was time for them to show the world what made them great. It was one giant celebration. A win? That should just be a formality, right? Well, someone forgot to tell the guys in sky blue and white about that part of the arrangement.

Here were the Rockets, faced with this challenge. It didn’t really phase them though as they were probably the most ignored team by many journalists in Miroxia. They would cover the other games, to generate fan interest, but this one was just supposed to be a formality. But maybe they should have been respected, and just maybe Newmanistan should be looked at as one of the favorites to win the whole competition if you’re look at the results from the recent Summer Olympiad in the UCS, where the Rockets had a dominating performance for most of it. They weren’t intimidated by this situation, they were inspired by it. And after the first six minutes of the game, the boisterous crowd was silenced by a scoreboard reading: Newmanistan 5, Miroxia 1. Newmanistan scored the first three goals in this game and Miroxia never got to within two for the rest of the game. In fact, the final score of 23-20 was about as close as it was all day. Newmanistan did lead 22-15 late before resting the starters, enabling Miroxia to close well, but never actually threaten for the lead. Leading the way for the Rockets in scoring was Marion Dawson who scored seven goals. Overall, there was a nice balance in goal scoring for Newmanistan, something which may make them a tough team to beat for anyone as they can’t just key in on one or two people.

So, the Rockets are 1-0 in Group A, and officially the most hated nation by the Miroxian public. Not because they did anything mean or disrespectful. They just crashed the party, and party hosts never like that.

Tortuga y Hispaniola Release Roster, after Going 2-0 in First Games

After two victories in the first World Cup of Handball, the Tortuga y Hispaniola squad has finally put down the rum for long enough to release a printed roster. Since we are a conglomerate of the world's pirates, each man's name will be followed by his country of origin, for a little international flair. No captain has been elected, but most players respect Right Inter Roberto Cofresi as the team's best player.

Goalkeeper- Hendrick Jacobson Lucifer (Holland)
Center- Bernard Claesen Speirdyke (Holland)
Pivot- Dennis McCarthy (Ireland)
Left Wing- Pier Gerlofs Donia (Germany)
Right Wing- Stede Bonnet (Barbados)
Left Inter- Jose Gaspar (Spain)
Right Inter- Roberto Cofresi (Puerto Rico)

Bench Players are not named, as they are cabin boys and other such people of small worth- they will almost certainly not see a minute of playing time in this tournament.

Tortuga y Hispaniola 30-26 Kjomasasopia

The Pirates of Tortuga y Hispaniola defeated the Kjomasasopians in a close match, for their first victory of these handball Championships.

Kjomasasopia went off to a 10-4 lead at the onset of the game, until Roberto Cofresi, the Right Inter for the Tortuga-Hispaniolan side proceeded to throw a bottle of rum at the head of his goalkeeper, frightening him enough that he proceeded to save the next 16 consecutive Kjomasasasopian shots. This allowed Tortuga y Hispaniola to make the score 17-10 in their favor, thanks to 8 Goals by Cofresi, and 5 by Barbadian Stede Bonnet. TyH held onto the lead for the rest of the match, to win 30-26.

Leading Scorer- Roberto Cofresi, 12 goals

Man of the Match- Roberto Cofresi

Tortuga y Hispaniola 33-25 Myedvedeya

Not much is remembered about this game, due to the fact that it was played in a drunken stupor. Cofresi scored 11, and lead us to yet another victory, and I think someone got thrown out for drawing sword on a Myedvedeyan player, but no-one remembers who... Tortuga y Hispaniola are now 2-0, and at the top of the group, we will play Lovisa, who are 1-0, tonight...

Constructive Criticism: I think you need to turn up the RP bonus here. What I'm seeing is that RP (even though there hasn't been a ton of it) is really not seeming to have any impact on these results. That, in the long run, can kill a tournament. If there doesn't seem to be a reason to RP, why bother?

The Indonesian States and Lovisa haven't even posted rosters. Cafundeu has, and is 0-3. Kjomasasopia has been the leading RPer, and is 1-2.

Kjomasasopia, can I make the suggestion you calm down before a moderator has to step in?

The two undefeated teams haven't posted rosters, yeah, whoopty-doo. They still entered the tournament though, and that means they still have a team in there. We just don't know the names and specifics.

I highly doubt Miroxia is cheating to let the two teams win, and even if they are, calm it. It's a game on an internet forum. As Miroxia said, they're scorinating by dice, which is a relatively old-school and unpredictable way to score. Anything can happen here, so just relax and get on with it, eh?

Kjo, just relax. My message to Miroxia was a suggestion and not a complaint and in no way did I want it to get out of hand. He can run the tournament anyway he so chooses. Also, if I were you I would get used to teams that sign up for competitions and don't post rosters because it's going to happen everywhere. RP is preferred. RP is desired but RP is NOT required.

I thought that Miroxia was doing more then just a simple dice roll here, though, I have to say. I took something he said about it involving dice, but thinking there would be more to it then that. But this is completely his perogative as the host. (That said, Miroxia, you may have a harder time getting signups for any tournament you want to do again with just a straight dice roll method... just a word of advice).

Definitely finish off this tournament. The bigger picture here is that you've shown yourself capable of hosting a competition (which would go down the tubes if you stopped it), because you're actual hosting of this within the rules you've set has been fine. (though including GF, GA, and GD does need to happen with the standings in the future).

For future reference, fool around with your spreadsheet program, experiment with formulas and see if you hit on something. The score you mentioned between us and Taeshan is approximately the amount of times I've beaten them to the amount of times they've beaten us, btw. ;)

18-10-2008, 06:55
(ooc: As an ancient NS voice of reason ({ stop laughing :p} Hey I've been on here for almost 3 years, so I've seen most everything) It is always better to finish a tourney, than to let one die off.

Yes, Miroxia's choice of how to determine results wasn't the best, but, (there's always a but); getting :mad: at them is not the way to go. contructive critisism is good.

Even though I didn't sign up for this or many other tourneys, I do read every Sports tourney, and Miroxia, here are a couple of helpful suggestions.

1- If you are creating a tourney from scratch, at least try to sim results first to make sure that a reasonable result occurs (ie: if you were going a soccer tourney, you don't want scores of 17-14, or in a American Football tourney scores of 3-2, etc. I had to work through almost 3 weeks of tweaking to get my Tour de Qazox spreadsheet to get normal results for a cycling event.) In this case, the scores are within reasonable results for Handball, though a tad on the high side.

2- I'm glad you didn't respond in kind when Kjo get angry. (OOC2: KJO, chill out a bit, please, OK? Don't take this the wrong way, but your RP's are good and we like having you around, but you grate on people sometimes.) Things happen in tourneys, people get ticked off, the scorinator/spreadsheet don't wanna work right, etc. Since this is the first of its kind, there's bound to be problems, and hosting is one of the ways to learn how to fix them.

3- The old saw: Practice, Practice, Practice. IF you decide to host a 2nd edition, spend some time before announcing it, simulating a fake tourney. See what ranges of RP bonus works, what ranges of style modifiers work, if you use them; how those 2 work together, etc.

4- this part is optional. IF you have a decent scorinator, then by all means either post it somewhere were people can down oad it to try it for themselves (like NSfooty Sim or Leagion for the NSWC) OR if you use spreadsheets, post the formulas you are using. Which is what I did for the WBC, even though i'm not sure anyone who has hosted it besides myself has used it.

5- Keep at it. (I would probably have co-hosted a WC or hosted a BoF/CoH by now, if I wasn't too cheap/lazy to download a decent Open Source to use NSfooty Sim or Leagion.)
Might I suggest asking for help from an established host to assist you? They can help you out immensely. in things from double checking standings, simming matches involving your team (if it's brought up), or even making sure the simulator works. (In my case, I'm way too stubborn to have someone help me, so I had to do things the hard way, which is the other reason why I'm probably not going to Co-host a WC anytime soon)

6- I hope this helps you in the future. Maybe you'll host World Cup 50!)

ooc- i don't know about this. i can't figure out how to scorinate anymore. Anyone experienced want to scorinate the rest for me? there's one last round robin game, Newmanistan vs. Taeshan (Myedvedya and Rennidan are out). Top two of the Group A robins go to the playoffs, but Kjomasasopia goes on to face Tortuga y Hispaniola. Indonesian states and Lovisa get a bye as a single elimination takes place. Group A Round Robin #1 vs. Kjomasasopia and Tortuga y Hispaniola vs. Group A Round Robin #2. Then the winner of #1vs.Kjomasasopia goes to face Indonesian states, winner of the other to Lovisa. Winners of those go to the single elimination final. Losers of the Semifinal matches play for third place. Anyone? Please?f

ooc: yewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!1eleven!!
ic: and throughout Miroxia, all anyone could hear for about 10 hours after their thrilling overtime win to qualify for the playoofs, coming directly from the locker room of the Kjomasasopians, was "ooooooh,
we are from the kj and o, where the mountains meet the sea,
its a land where men play handball, and they strive for victory!
yes, we represent our land because we are the best you'll see(you'll see!)
we are from the kj and o and we strive for victory!

today we played Rennidan, what a sorry side they were!
we left them torn and tattered, as we soared to victory!
yes, we represent our land because we are the best you'll see (you'll see!)
WE ARE FROM THE KJ AND O AND WE STRIVE FOR VICTORY!"
