Possible American Football League

(I was informed that I should move this thread to here.

I have not been around the NS forums long as an active member, more of an observer, and I have noticed a wide range of sports played by the nations such as Soccer, Rugby, and Lacrosse just to name a few. Now I know that I am not the only person who would be interested in the formation of an American football league of some sort. I am not sure how it would be done but I am sure some of the more experienced guys would have some sort of an idea.

We could play in some league independent of our nations and work on some kind of draft/recruiting system or an international league done in the fashion of many of the other sports here.
I was thinking about a possible point system for a team's strengths and for the calculations.

A team has a total of 1.5 points to spend on their entire team. We could then spread the points out by position.

For example -

Christstan Knights

Offense -
OL - .11
QB - .14
RB - .11
WR - .14
Total: .5/1

Defense -
DL - .15
LB - .15
CB - .13
S - .12

Special Teams
KR - .1
PR - .1
K - .1
Special Teams Defense - .1

Now this could be too complex and could be streamlined but then we could work on some simple calculations for drives and series.

Victorious teams could get to add points to their positions over time.

I think we could do calculations by having teams have about 4-5 possessions per quarter making it possible to have as much as 140 points if you were to score on every possession.

Any ideas or interest?

The World Bowl Competitions exist. World Bowl III recently concluded. World Bowl IV is expected to begin late this month. When signups begin, be sure to get involved.

Oh very well then, I will be sure to do that, not sure how everything works though.

Perhaps we could form another league though, like a collegiate or something. How does one get a scorinator to do so? Say I wished to form another league of some sort.

Usually, football tourneys are done with a soccer scorinator like NationStatesFootySim, with each match run twice, once for the TD's and once for field goals. So, for example, if Team A plays Team B, and the first scorination is 3-1, that comes out to 18-6. (A random number 1-100 is generated for each Extra point, if it is below somewhere around 96, then the extra point is good.) A second scorination is then run, for field goals, so if that one came out A-2, B-3, assuming all extra points were good, the final score would be 27-16 in favor of team A. Hope this helps.

A collegiate tournament would be a great Idea, i know I for one would participate.
good luck, and hope I have been of some help to you.

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=13989336 Here is the thread for world bowl III, it explains the scorination process in greater detail, as well as shows what these tournaments tend to look like. (sorry it zooms in on my roster immediately... i used the link off my bookmarks bar.)

Well, recently I had expressed intent at making an international league more similar to the actual NFL, something like what Christstan suggested.

Whilst I like the World Bowl (hell, you guys know I love it), I do also like the idea of a domestic style league that's open for an international circuit (ala Champions League for gridiron, if you will).

What you suggest for the teams, Chris, with points individually allocated to players is, whilst incredibly indepth and more realistic, too complex. It'd be intresting to create X amount of players, each individually allocated points, then hold a big ol' draft to be realistic, but it'd be waaay too complex and would probably bore some people.

The current format of scorinating gridiron works well enough, and is relatively simple (even if it does still cause me a headache). The first posts of the last few World Bowls explain it, and I'm too tired right now to leap back and nab it from there, but trust me, it's doable.

So, really, I'd be up for looking to help make a new gridiron tourney. It'd probably be more longdrawn than the World Bowl, and be a lot more like the NFL, with teams put into permanent divisions (which I realizes could mean that new nations that want to join would be excluded, but I'm thinking a queueing system would be enacted, where if x amount of nations are interested, a new division opens).

And, uh, well, I've got more to say, but I only intended this to be a short post.

So, to sum it up, I'd be interested in discussing possibilities for a new gridiron competition, to run seperately from the World Bowl, like the Oxen Cup is to the World Cup.

EDIT: Oh, hey the Myed, thanks for summing up the scorinating whilst I was typing up. xD

Before you posted I read up on the Scorination process, I more wanted to find out how to get one in order to open a new league as we have been discussing.

We could do something like an "Collegiate League" and an NFL league.

Where new teams are put into the Collegiate League and battle for position a few rounds, good seasons and rankings earn bonus points (somewhat like the rank system of the world cups where the higher you are is the better your chances) after a few seasons and earning a sufficient amount of points you would be allowed to form a professional League in the international League or a League done inside some country we invent for this purpose.

After making it to the NFL you are still allowed to remain collegiate however your bonus gets capped and the professional League offers bonuses for successful seasons, however they are not permanent (carry over beyond a single season). The Collegiate points would be cumulative over time.

but meh, I would just like to get a league going.

A league that we just like to get going is a league that will never make it in the long run. The details such as scorination need to be ironed out.

Newmanistan has a successful domestic American Football league. Therefore, I am not terribly excited about any league that would involve domestic teams. A Collegiate league goes down a better avenue, but also is a little to restrictive. If you want to do something, I would suggest a Di Bradini Cup style tournament, which would be an Under-21 type team, which are all junior teams which represent the nations. To attract my interest in such a tournament, it would have to be used with the scorination method as used in the World Bowl. I don't like competitions that assign points to players.

Your intentions are good, but I would also recommend you show yourself capable of hosting before you try organizing a tournament. For me, this would be as a good roleplayer in another tournament. Let me see what you got. Because there is nothing worse then joining someone's league that has no experience and having them disappear in a couple weeks.

Well from what has been said here, my idea for teams has been totally scrapped and what is being discussed is merely the formation of a new league using the old scorination process.

Also, I have no intention of starting a League on my own, I was just proposing the idea in order to get myself started off somewhere. I have no experience and would let veterans iron out most of the details. I intend on participating the existing system.
