QSPN HockeyCentral
Wales:
"We've moved over to QSPN, from QBC and I'm still Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Qazox is hosting the 7th edition of the World Cup of Hockey, and we also just happen to be the defending champions as well. The entire team that won the 6th World Cup is returning and does that favor the Pheonix, or will the pressure of playing at home get to them? Patrick?
Campbell:
"This team just decimated the competition last time around and there should be no reason to do it again. But yes the pressure of playing at home does get to teams. The last team to host and win was Rorysville, way back in the days of the Aglukark-Cherry Cup, at ACC 19, and in fact inculding that precursor tourney, only 3 nations have ever won the title at home, so the Pheonix have the weight of history against them."
Smythe:
"But history is meant to be broken and if any team can overcome history, it is this one. The team has been flying on all cylinders in pre-tourney exhibitons, winning by and average of 6 goals. SIX goals, against the rest of the QHl, which is one of the better Hockey leagues in the NSUniverse? We're going to be gracious hosts, if only in the fact that we'll allow the other teams have the honor of playing on the same ice as the first back-to-back WCoH champions."
Adams:
"As if anyone needed a reminder, here's the lineups for the Pheonix:"

Green wombat

Green Wombat once again attempts to not suck at an international sports event. But the odds of that happening are about the same as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays winning 90 games. What do you mean they've won 90 games this year? OK. What about the odds of CFR Cluj beating A.S. Roma, in Rome during the first round of the Champions League? THAT too has happened? O.K. What about the odds of Prux qualifying for the World Cup? Come on, now you're just jerking me around! They did?!?! I relly didn't want to have to use this, but, The odds of Green wombat NOT sucking at an international sporting event is the same as the Chicago Cubs not winning a World Series in 99 years.

After the failure of the Walruses to defend the title they had shockingly won at the 5th World Cup of Hockey. Prux decided to use Zombies, but were beaten to it by the national football team. So after consulting a rabid dingo, a misshapen lump of gold, two unicorns and a talking llama, they came to the conclusion that a team of Real players should be used. Unfortunately, Prux couldn't find any people in the country who could play hockey at all, and decided to conscript a local travelling circus. So with out further fanfare, The Prux World Cup of Hockey 7 team:
STARTING LINEUP
Goalie: Mikey the Monkey Boy- So-called due to his size 14 feet and 12 inch wide hands, Mikey is very athletic and should be a good choice in net.
Left Defense: Helga the Bearded Lady- Weighing in a 200 lbs, and with a 3ft long beard, Helga just scares people, even though she has a good heart.
Right Defense: Amazo the Magician- always accompanied by his pet rabbit, Amazo is best known for his trick of sawing a horse in half; even though he forgot to use the prop chainsaw, the horse was cut really in half, it just wasn't put together again.
Left Wing: The Conundrum- We don't really know what he/she/it is, but The Conundrum is 6 feet tall, unless its not, as he/she/it can change his/her/its height at will and is colored blue, for some reason.
Right Wing: Atlas The strong Man- Standing 6ft 7inches tall and he can benchpress an elephant, Atlas is the perfect checking forward.
Center: The Gator-Man Yes. The Gator Man. Somehow his mom got pregnant by a frisky alligator and out popped this monstrosity. Looks like a 6 1/2 ft tall Gator, but can walk and talk like a human.
BENCH:
Bonzo the Clown and the Clown Crew: 15 clowns that conveinently fit inside one suitcase. They all look the same, except for Bonzo, who has green hair, while the rest have red hair. Expect many opponents to be pantsed and to be hit in the face with cream pies.
Head Coach:
The Ringmaster (Harold Reed)- Since he's used to leading this mob in the circus, we figured, he could lead them on the ice as well.
Our style modifier will be +2 please.

Cheerleaders on ice? Ok, in hockey they are called ice girls. You know, those scantily dressed females who clean the goal creases during stoppages of play? Well after the ratings success of our World Bowl Cheerleading squad, the Secristan Department of Sports has decided that instead of having real professional hockey players place bids for their positions, that they can generate more revenue by fielding a team of ice girls
A group of male SDOS members went from team website to website to find the women that they felt were the most attractive and invited them to participate. So here they are! We don’t know how good their hockey skills are, but they are very good skaters and they are good with a broom so that may translate to good with a stick.
These are the general line combinations used. In reality we’d mix things up from time to time, but just go with this as line combinations. They are ranked, depth-chart wise, within their position by appearance, not by hockey skill.

Following...disappointment...in the sixth tournament, Plutoni somehow remain first seeds. Their new team, drawn from university and college teams, isn't an incredible offensive or checking side, as evidenced by its -1 style modifier. But, emphasizing accurate passes and speed, it hopes to improve on the last showing. It'd be hard not to.

Wales:
"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe, and here's the offical QBC World Cup of Hockey 7 preview show. Let's just jump right into it. Patrick, what do you see in Group A?
Campbell:
"Other than Qazox going 5-0-0? Lovisa is just a bit better than Green wombat, and they should sneak through in 2nd. Greal should finish 4th, with Myedvedeya last"
Smythe:
"Stop the presses, everyone, I'm agreeing with Patrick. Qazox, Lovisa, Green wombat, Greal and Myedvedeya in that order."
Wales:
"Moving on to the QBC GROUP OF DEATH Group B, Norris, what does your magic 8-ball tell you?"
Smythe:
"It tells me that Patrick, for the most part, is an idiot. But it also tells me that in a slight shocker, Septentrionia and Newmanistan will advance out this group, knocking Plutoni, the 2nd best team never to win a WCoH title out of this tourney. 4th will be Jeru FC and last will be colburne."
Campbell:
"Only an Idiot couldn't see that Plutoni is geared up for one last run at a title. They will win this group, albeit just barely over Newmanistan, leaving Septentrionia in the cold. Jeru FC will beat a higher seed and colburne, well nice seeing you."
Wales:
"Ok then, Moving to Group C, on paper, the weakest Group, do Kelssek and Prux move on or is there a chance for the other 3 teams, Patrick?"
Campbell:
"No chance. Prux, even with a cirus troupe, is better than all of these teams, and Kelssek is just as good. They advance with little trouble, Prux 1st, Kelssek in 2nd, while Jeruselem, kenavt and Patetopia will finish in that order."
Smythe:
"Not so fast my friend. Jeruselem has improved since their last appearance, a nd seriously does any one think a bunch of clowns will be good at hockey? Prux doesn't advance, Kelssek takes first, kenavt 4th and Patetopia 5th."
Wales:
"Finally group D. A tough draw for the top 3 seeds. So who gets out, Norris?"
Smythe:
"The best team not to have won a hockey title, Valanora will cruise, so it comes down to the winner of Taeshan-Magnus Valerius, and since they meet on the final day, it will be an interesting game at the Ox-Cola Center. I think Magnus Valerius sneaks in, Taeshan 3rd, Secristan will be 4th and Maimeiras last."
Campbell:
"Valanora will NOT win this group, they get 2nd, as Taeshan will win it. Secristan will get 3rd, Magnus Valerius will dissapoint in 4th and Maimerias last."

Group Draws Announced
Well it will be a wild World Cup of Hockey 7 dfor the Knights after the group draw announcement. They will be playing Valanora, Secristan, Magnus Valerius, and Maimeras. This should be exciting as the Knights are ranked 7th in the world, and 2nd in there group. They will need wins in most of the games to advance. I pick the Knights, and the Valanorans to advance.

After a solid run in their first World Cup of Hockey, Empress Jessica is hoping to see some improvement on the ice this time around, but the team is going to have a different look this year. Last time, they went with a defensive team, comfortable in playing the neutral zone trap and to out muscle opponents, with frequent fights. This time, we’re going to get away from that, and try to open it up more.

THE ROCKET REPORT
ROCKETS SEEK TO IMPROVE
Rockport, Qazox- In about 24 hours, we’ll be dropping the puck on the 7th World Cup of Hockey, which is being hosted by Qazox, who is also the defending champion of the tournament. When it does, the Rockets will be opening up against Septentrionia, just like the way they opened up World Cup of Hockey 6. This time, though, it will not be in Septentrionia, so the entire arena won’t be against us. This will be a good test to see where exactly the Empire stands in the world of hockey. Last year, under the scheme of Robert Curtis, Newmanistan sought to play a super physical and defensive style game, which was criticized at times, while at others looked brilliant. Over the course of the tournament, it was really hard to gauge where exactly the Rockets were in comparison to their opponents. Some nights they looked great, while others, they looked lost. At the end of it, the began to play well, and made it to the knockout stages and defeated a weaker Q, Quakmybush. After that, the stronger Q, Qazox, took care of the Rockets en route to their championships.
In the 7th Frozen World Cup, Newmanistan will now be led behind the bench by Olympia’s Chris Dayton, who’s Gladiators have consistently been one of the Western Conference’s better teams. Eighteen of the thirty players that have been brought to Qazox were on the roster for that tournament. Dayton plans on opening up the game somewhat, but will strive to maintain an equal balance between offense and defense. You can look for him to frequently match lines with his opponents, as that is just his style. The skaters, such as the Alex Marchese and Scott Meadows are certainly elated to hear that the team will initiate the attack more often. Meadows, who will wear the “A” for the second time, said, “I think our style of play under Dayton will be more indicative of the way we play the game back at home. Coach Curtis wanted us to just play all defense all the time, and while it worked in some areas, I’m not sure if it is the best thing for us. Chris’ style, I believe, will be.” Within their group, and you will find the Rockets in Group B, the opposition will be Septentrionia, Plutoni, Jeru FC, and Colbourne, and there will be only one game between teams, so there is certainly no room for error in this. Plutoni, fielding all females, though likely wearing actual uniforms unlike Secristan, is the top ranked team in the group. However, we must admit that us here at The Rocket Report are unfamiliar with this country. We’ll see how it goes. Newmanistan is the second seed within the group, then comes Septentrionia. While recently Septentrionia and World Cup 42 have been synonymous, let us not forget that hockey is truly the pride of this country and like us, they are very eager to rise up the rankings on the ice. Jeru FC will be their customary team of army men and Colbourne is a nation not known to many but ready to make a big impression. Those two nations are the underdogs, but anything is possible.
Taking a glance in the other groups, we see a Group A of Qazox, Green Wombat, Greal, Lovisa, and Myedvedeya. This group to us, looks a little dangerous. Lovisa is ranked well, but they will be in tough. Myedvedeya has shown themselves to be a legitimate entry, including advancing to the final in the International Basketball Championships, and may have just run into a tough group for World Bowl III. Greal could also have a little something, and then you have Green wombat, who are playing very close to home. Qazox will win the group, but the battle for second will be a fight. Don’t be surprised if the KGB are raising their sticks in the end and celebrating a second place finish. Group C seems pretty cut and dry to us. Kelssek, Prux, then everyone else. Jeruselem will always be a feisty unit. Don’t know much about Patetopia, perhaps they will be a spoiler and Kenavt always seems to have high expectations going into a tournament and they always fall flat on their face in the long run. The only question in Group C is who’s first and who’s second. We’ll take Kelssek over Prux. Then we have Group D, and if your Secristan, it may mean Group D-cup if you’ve seen some of these ladies. They might not win a game, but there’s no question that they will be the most attractive team on the ice in Qazox. The serious teams to beat here though are Valanora and Taeshan. Like Group C, the only question is who wins the group between them. We’d like to see the Ice Girls succeed, and maybe our One Big Island neighbors can get third.
Pretty soon, the results will come in, and we’ll see which top seeds choke, which bottom seeds surprise, and hopefully a successful Frozen World Cup* for Newmanistan.
(*OOC: The Rocket Report and Newmanistan press releases are going to refer to it as the Frozen World Cup throughout. I like the way it sounds better. Plus the NCAA Championships is called the Frozen Four!)

SDOS INSISTS ICE GIRLS NOT GIMMICK
With World Cup of Hockey 7 on the way, the Secristan Department of Sports has been criticized for their decision to forego the bidding process and name the most attractive Ice Girls to the team roster. Furthermore, the insist that the team will be continue to be called the Millionaires as they emphasize that the girls all come from upper class backgrounds. Take left wing Lauren N. for example. Her father is the C.E.O. of a major retail firm and her mother is one of the top fashion designers in the country. Lauren has lived a life of luxury, getting through life on her looks and on her parents money. She was not a very bright student in school, but she didn’t need to be, as her role in high school was to be one of those girls who made life difficult for the less attractive females. She took up cheerleading, then because her boyfriend was a hockey player she all of the sudden loved hockey and that’s when she took on becoming an ice girl in Amherst. Her story is pretty customary of all the girls on the team.
We understand that there are people wondering just how these ladies are going to be able to match up against the well built, tough hockey players that they will be going up against in Group D. Well, who really cares about that. Their purpose is not to win games, although we would like it if they did, their purpose is to generate money for the government through pay-per-view purchases. Demand and sponsorship requests have been at a high, so this has allowed the SDOS to set a price of 39R per period. A full game can be purchased for 115R, which is an absolutely incredible savings of 2R over purchasing each period separately! There is also a five-game package that can be purchased for 550R, which is a savings of 25R over purchasing each game individually, and this is a truly generous offer from the SDOS we must say! Sponsors have lined up, and due to this, we should be able to see a commercial range of 35 minutes per hour. In addition a couple corporations have purchased key advertising space in Qazox. No, not on the billboards, but on the buttocks of each girl. Due to the performance of the cheerleading squad in the World Bowl, the well-off Secristani common citizen is expected to purchase the five game package and revenue should be at a high. We hope that the girls do well, but no matter what the win loss record will say, their success will be measured in terms of revenue.
The nations that will be opposing the Millionaires in group D are Valanora, Magnus Valerius, Taeshan, and Maimeiras. Magnus Valerius we saw and lost to in the International Basketball Championships, and we seem to have a magentic attraction to always being in the same group as Taeshan in any sport. Maimeiras we have never seen, and the same goes for Valanora but they are the top seed in the group so that game will be a true test for our Ice Girls. Let’s hope this all goes well!
The bus from the Qazox City airport bumped merrily on its way.
"So, our first match is against Jeruselem... wait, this is hockey. We're supposed to win."
"Oh, you genius..."
"Listen, you fool. We are Kelssekians; hockey is in our blood. It's what we played on the frozen ponds during the long freezing winters of our childhood, until well after it got dark or someone fell into a crack in the ice. It's the sport that beer makers looking to exploit nationalist emotions hammer ads into. We're a bunch of heathen unbelievers but this is our religion."
"Can I admit something?" said Josh Mulroney, "I don't actually have any hockey scars... I mean, no one ever slashed me or whatever that bad before, and there's all this protective equipment in competitive games... That beer ad makes me feel bad."
Craig Gilbert stood up, swaying precariously as the bus swerved to avoid dealing a messy death to a drunk motorcyclist.
"I had this wonderful team talk planned out but my laptop went boink when I tried to save it. Anyway, we defend our honour and yadda yadda yadda. Meet in the hotel lobby at nine and we'll head for our first practice. Any questions?"
"Yes," said Neville Keanes, looking at his equipment, "Is someone trying to be funny by pasting the word "Brains" on our helmets?"
"It's a brand of beer. They bought the advertising space."
"Goddamn capitalist pig-dogs."

"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Qazox survived a tougher game that they thought they would from neighbors and rivals Green wombat, winning 5-3. Patrick, was this a one-game fluke or the beginning of a trend?"
Campbell:
"The team came out sloppy in the first two periods, and allowed the Wolves to take a 3-2 lead into the 2nd intermission. But Qazox finally got its act together and won."
Smythe:
"I hope the Pheonix don't try to do this every game, or else they'll be upset sooner or later. Maybe the pressure got to the team, but then again, maybe this is thier one bad game, and they got it out of the way."
Wales:
"Well up next for Qazox is an off-day, which could be good as Oscar Maresca will probably have the team practice instead of the usual rest. The Three most interesting games of Day 2 will be Kelssek-Prux from Group C, Plutoni-Septentrionia in Group B and Taeshan-Secristan from Group D. Some big match-ups very early on in those groups."

WCOH7 Journal of Frank Ernst.
A tough 3-5 loss to Qazox. We had the lead 3 times, but just couldn't put them away. But we put a scare into the defending champs, and I think if we had played them somewhere other than in Qazox, we could have beaten them. I did good, gettign 15 hits and I kncked that pompous ass Maicha Harven on his ass 3 or 4 times. Oscar got himself the 2nd star, getting 2 goals and the assist on the other. I don't know how Qazox' goalie got the 3rd star, he let in 3 of our first 13 shots!. But Peter Asikei, with 3 assists and that Shorthanded goal, got the 1st star. I told the coach if he's on the ice and we are on a powerplay, I need to be out there, but I wasn't, and that dang cherry picker got the cheap goal. Well we have to get ready for Myedvedeya. They lost to Greal, and didn't look that impressive.
The Circus Daily, by Head Coach/Ringmaster, Harold Reed
6 goals against Patetopia. We should have pounded them into PATE. Mikey allowed 2 quick goals and the crowd of 16000 or so started jumping his business. but after a couple of hard hits from Helga and Atlas, Patetopia looked like the scared goose livers they decended from. 2 goals each from The Gator-Man and the Conundrum was enough to give us a 4-2 lead after the first. I decided then, with the Kelssek game up next, to rest the starters and I allowed the Clown Crew to play the rest of the game. I need to rein those guys in a bit, as Nebbie and Jock-O were each given 4 roughing penalties for 2 pies-in-the-face, a seltzer-water spritz and a bucket of water toss. I still think that if you play on ice, you should be afraid of water. The hockey bosses tell me I have to at least list our goal scorers, so here they are, in no particular order:
The Conundrum- 2 goals (both in 1st)
The Gator-Man 2 goals, also in 1st
Bonzo got one in the second half
and I think Lenny-no pants got the last one, either him or Reggie the cross-dresser.

THE ROCKET REPORT
CONTROVERSIAL “NO GOAL” SPOILS OPENER
Rockport, Qazox- The 7th Edition of the Frozen World Cup got underway tonight, and we saw some pretty good action between Newmanistan and Septentrionia. Both teams were eager to get started the right way and looked good. Sadly, the same can not be said about tonight’s referee who waved off a goal with 13:22 remaining in the 3rd period that would have and should have given the Rockets a 3-1 lead. More on that in a moment. Instead, it ends up being a 3-2 loss in overtime.
With most of Septentrionia focused on the later stages of World Cup 42 being played on their own turf, one can probably forgive them for their lack of submitting a roster in time for this game. Not that it really mattered, because the people out there on the ice representing their nation were certainly very confident. They controlled the early stages of the first period, and seemed to be a little relieved that the Rockets weren’t looking to lay a punishing check on them at every opportunity like they did in the previous World Cup back at their home. At the 9:28 mark of the first period, the player that they likely consider their best left wing scored off a one timer that was set up nicely by his center. Craig Sanders could not get to it in time. He read the play alright, the shot was just placed perfectly. Afterwards, the Rockets got a bit sloppy, with Tom Stewart called for high-sticking at 10:09 then Kevin Reschke called for holding at 12:55. Fortunately, the penalty kill was up for the task, killing those penalties, as well as one at 15:04 to Shawn Evans for boarding. Those were the only three penalties called in the period, so certainly coach Dayton was already getting to get a bit aggravated with the officiating. Were they going off of the Rockets reputation from the last Frozen World Cup? Newmanistan was outshot 15-7 in the period.
After having to kill off yet another Septentrionia power play early in the second period, the Rockets began to get some quality scoring opportunities, getting the next six shots after the penalties expiration. Then, at the 5:44 mark, would come the equalizer. Kevin Reschke make the play happen by getting front of the net and awaiting the rebound. Eventually it would come off a shot from Pierre Chalifoux that Reschke would pounce on and sneak through the five-hole of the goaltender to tie the game up at one goal apiece. The officials made sure that there would be no Newmanistan momentum off of this as at 5:58, just 14 seconds after, Larry Davidson was called for a ridiculous elbowing penalty. Powerplay #5 for Septentrionia coming right up with the Rockets still not having the man advantage in the contest. Once again though, the Newmanistan penalty kill, with credit also going to Sanders between the pipes, kept the opponent from reclaiming the lead. At 10:39, the unthinkable happened. A penalty on Septentrionia. The PP unit worked the puck very well with effective cycling, to ultimately set up a point shot from Tom Stewart. Alex Marchese, camped out in front of the net, deflected the shot past the goalie for a PP goal at 11:25. 2-1 in favor of the Rockets, and they were in control of the game. They would get another powerplay chance later in the period, but could not do anything with it. Newmanistan outshot Septentrionia 16-12 for the period, but still were down 29-27 overall. They were 1-for-2 on the PP while Septentrionia was 0-for-5.
In the third period, Septentrionia did their best to get in the game, getting two more early period penalties on a cross checking call to Kevin Regan at 1:13 (one penalty that probably was warranted), and then an interference call to Brian Freeman at 4:08. The penalty kill for the Rockets once again was outstanding, and really deserves a lot of credit for the great work that they did. Shortly after Freeman’s penalty expired, came that moment of controversy. The third line was aggressively crashing the net and it appeared as though Larry Davidson had pounced on a rebound and scored. With a pile up in front of the net, the Septentrionia goalie saw the puck and got his glove to it. The overhead camera showed it all clearly, the puck was underneath his glove, but there was one problem. His glove was behind the goal line. Ever so slightly, but because of contact from one of his own defensemen pushed him back just as the puck got to his glove. The camera angle showed that puck would have had to have completely crossed the goal line, and the Rockets should have been up 3-1. The whistle never blew under after it was frozen, so that was not an issue. The ref simply did not feel as though the puck completely crossed the line. Even though the booth upstairs called for a review, as well know, you cannot reverse a referee’s decision unless it is 100% conclusive that it needs to be overturned. Apparently for those in the booth, it was only 99.5% conclusive, so they ruled “no goal”. A two goal lead would have been nice, but the no goal call gave new life to Septentrionia and they took advantage, getting a big tying goal at the 15:55 mark to send the game into overtime. In OT, they would score just 1:04 into the extra session to get a win.
Newmanistan, for the game, would outshoot Septentrionia 40-38 in what if it wasn’t for the bad call would have been seen as quite a good game and a great way to open up this Frozen World Cup. But instead the Rockets are dealt a very difficult loss. They will have their bye in the next matchday and perhaps have some frustration to take out against Plutoni.

Qazox City- Very soon the national hockey team will hit to the ice to open their WCOH play when the players were asked about the cup here are some of the responses.
Reporter " So Bryan how do you think the team will do in the cup"
Captain Bryan Moore " I think the cup will be a learning experience for everyone on the team as well as all the national sorts teams in Colbourne."
Here in Qazox City there are a number on fans from Colbourne here to cheer them on. WE know the whole nation will be watching the first game here live from Qazox City This is J.P. Richardson Reporting from Qazox City
First Game: Greal 2-1 Myedvedeya
Myedvedeya put up a hard fight. It was a like a movie. Both hockey teams were trying to score one more after both sides scored once, but eventually, they would either tie, or one of them lose. Jacob Goss, scored a dramatic goal that drew cheers from the Greal audience in the crowd. The remainder of the game was to prevent the other team from scoring also. Josh Littles proved to be an excellent goalie, preventing two scores. Next up would be Green wombat, who are more experienced then their Greal rivals, but Greal will sure put up a hell of the fight, and will do the best it can to prevent Green wombat from scoring.
Plutoni national ice hockey blog: WCoH 7, Matchday 1
Well, that's more like it.
Who knows what did it-a team of legit hockey players couldn't have hurt-but Plutoni looked like the team of old in a 4-0 defeat of Jeru FC. Despite both team's defensive leanings, the offense was present from the first period as center Rachelle Conary's slapshot put Plutoni on the scoreboard. The real action would wind up being against the boards, though, as the army team brought toughness at the back. Not much else, though: captain Lolo Barnhart charged forward, and Plutoni had doubled their lead before the first break.
Things were a little more cautious after that, but Melanie Sturm scored late in the second period and Caroline Newhope midway through the third. Her goal came on Plutoni's third and last power play, while Jeru FC only got one. And when all was said and done, Plutoni had its first win under its belt.
We've already surpassed last tournament's total.
Comments:
1. icebaby: Took them long enough.
2. mrdude: plutoni sux secris ftw
3. seb: All right, we can beat no-hopers. Progress. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, a draw with Septentrionia lies ahead.
4. icebaby: Now, them it will be fun to see again.
5. Official_Blog: Are we going ahead with the meetup? If so, I'll see you in section 128.
Knights Defeat Maimeras
I don't even think you could call it close. A 5-2 scoring line that gave the Knights an early lead over the newest team to meet them the Maimerans. The Knights will next face the Secristan Cheerleaders, yeah they may look better on ice then a field. Yummy.

We interrupt regular broadcasting to bring you the following news:
John Marshall was today sacked by the National Hockey Association for failing to pick up on the international forums that a world hockey competition was going on. John Marshall has served for all of 3 months and was responsible in that time for monitoring the international forums for possible competitions that our brave hockey players could take part in.
Having been bronze medalists in the 3rd Olympiad this would have been the ideal competition for our players to yet again shine on the world stage.
John Marshall was last seen muttering something about sleep deprivation and being overworked.
Our apologies to the organisers for our failure to take part in this competition and for interrupting regular broadcasting to bring this news.

Kelssek just whupped us. They broke Helga's nose, and she hasn't stopped crying for over an hour; The Gatorman had a chunk of his tail cutoff by an inadvertent skate and one of the clowns, was killed, Tiny, I think. But a shot from Atlas, broke the shoulder of Kelssek's goalie, Brian Duborny and trickled into the net for our only goal. I found out who scored our final goal in our last game, it was Herby the clown.
The Conundrum: 2 goals
The Gator-Man: 2 goals
Bonzo the clown: 1 goal
Herby the clown: 1 goal
Atlas: 1 goal.

A win is a win, as they say right? We won, but we should have lost. 13 penalties for us, for 87 minutes of penalty time (including 2 fighting ones, both by me, but I whupped that guy's butt, twice!) saw us spend over 20 minutes a man down, just over an entire period, AND WE STILL WON! Earning the first star, rightfully so, this time was Paul Nutt, as he stopped 43 of 45 shots. If it weren't for Paul, we could gave up at least 10 goals this game. Somehow I got the 2nd star, 'cause I had 2 assists and a cheap empty net goal with 30 seconds left, and Greg Bourne got the 3rd star for his 2 goals. Jerome Oshiro, got his first ever goal to put us up 3-2, which was good. So now we're in 3rd, technically on GD and have to face Lovisa next. This is the big game we have to win. Coach will probably have us spend an extra 45 minutes in practice tommorrow morning, but if we win, it will be worth it.

King: We have an ice hockey team?
Jacinta: Two!
King: Oh, so professionals?
Jacinta: More like kids ...
King: Two teams ... from where?
Jacinta: One is bunch of schoolgirls representing Jeruselem and other is bunch of army kids for Jeru FC
King: Any good?
Jacinta: I think we picked the ones who didn't fall off their skates.
King: Are they doing any good?
Jacinta: Both teams got whopped first game but the army team won a game.
King: Not bad, for bunch of kids.
Jacinta: It's cheap sending kids!
King: I suppose they don't have money to go boozing up in pubs
Jacinta: Well, the army kids like doing that.
King: I might try to learn ice skating one day.
Jacinta: We could build a rink here
King: We don't any rinks or frozen ponds.
Jacinta: But we have salt lakes!
King: I do suppose they are similar but I don't like salt lakes.
Jacinta: Neither do I
King: I could build a small one somewhere around here
Jacinta: What about the disused swimming pool?
King: Not a bad idea!

ICE GIRLS PROVE CRITICS WRONG WITH WIN
The long anticipated start to their World Cup of Hockey 7 campaign got underway in Qazox. The most attractive team in the competition, the girls wanted to show that they could also play this game too. At the opening faceoff, the Taeshan players spent most of the time checking out our ladies, and they were immediately taken aback by the strong skating skills of our team. The girls knew this would be a strength of theirs and they controlled much of the first period. Nine minutes into it, they stunned the Rockport crowd as Jennifer R. split two Taeshan defensemen then fed Ashley T. with a perfect pass to give the Millionaires a 1-0 lead. When Taeshan decided to get a little physical with the team, they were surprised by their toughness. Sure, we got some helpful officiating as the referee called mostly everything that he thought was deemed too rough on one of girls. One of the highlights of the match was a 2nd period fight between 6'4" Sarah B. and Smitty Myers. Myers may have taken the start of the fight a little too lightly as Sarah landed several punches to his face, leaving him with a black eye. Myers was hesitant to hit Sarah, but once he started, he had already lost the fight. The game was 1-0 for a long time, until the middle of the third period when Taeshan tied it up. To overtime we went, the second straight day they would get extra hockey at the Hemisphere Bank Center, and they would be treated to an exciting session. On their 12th power play of the game, late in overtime, the Millionaires got the game winner as Sarah C. tipped home a rebound of a shot by Ashley T. The end result was a 2-1 win over Taeshan.
But this was not the only victory for the ice girls. It was expected that pay-per-view purchases would be high, and the Secristan Department of Sports got what they wanted. Cassie Doran, the SDOS rep who grants interviews to us for the smallest fee of any of them (maybe we shouldn’t have said that) said that everything went great. “We achieved the numbers that we were expecting. I expect even greater numbers coming off this win as the girls showed that they will not only look good on the ice but that they can actually compete with the other teams. Taeshan is a good team, just look at what they’ve done to us in other sports.”
Greal 1-3 Lovisa
A tough day for Greal's National Ice Hockey Team. Lovisa managed to score three times before Greal was able to score one. Lovisa was too much for Greal, and eventually, Greal lost the what seemed like a long game. Jacob Goss was credited with scoring the only goal for Greal of the game. Currently, in the group rankings, Greal is ranked second along with three other teams. No doubt the tie will be broken on Match Day three. Greal will sit out Match Day three in preparation for playing Green wombat on Match Day four.
Craig Gilbert marched into the hospital's emergency room, making a beeline for the pile of hockey equipment on the floor. "Oh great, we play a travelling circus and this has to happen."
"GAAAARRGGHH", screamed Brian Duborny in an attempt to convince the doctor to give him morphine.
Gilbert leaned on an adjacent bed, only to rethink this move when the unlocked wheels moved under him. With a start, he realised there was also a corpse under a sheet on it.
"A... clown? Wait, isn't that one of the Prux players?"
"Hair too big for a helmet, slipped on the ice, bam! Skull fracture and cerebrovascular accident." said a nurse, making tsk tsk tsk sounds. She pulled a dividing curtain. Craig Gilbert sighed at being down a goalie and halfheartedly reassured Brian Duborny he would be just fine.

We interrupt regular broadcasting yet again to bring you the following news:
John Marshall today successfully appealed against his sacking after new evidence emerged from a third party that this was an Ice Hockey tournament not a Field Hockey Tournament. (our thanks to the press of Qazox for this information)
However, he has still be given a warning as there was no reason why our field hockey stars could not try their skills on the ice, after all its the same game just on a different surface, if tennis stars can do it, why can't hockey stars?
So look out World Cup of Hockey 8 could see our stars take to the ice.

THE ROCKET REPORT
ROCKETS READY FOR PLUTONI
Qazox- We confess, we want to win the Frozen World Cup but there’s something going on that has captivated the interest of the Empire right now. I’m sure they understand this in Qazox, as like them in the World Bowl, Newmanistan is on the verge of capturing a major championship in Cup of Harmony 34. In fact, many of the players on the hockey team are pointing to that as motivation as they get set to take on the ladies from Plutoni. After their bye day, Newmanistan is well rested and know the importance of this game. Plutoni is the top ranked team in the group, and after they drew with Septentrionia yesterday, it’s going to be hard for us to crack the top two with a loss in this game. A tie? Yeah, that would probably work for now, but a loss could be tough. Either way it might be good news that the toughest games for the Rockets will be over with after these two games.
Ratings in Newmanistan for this game may be a little better if Plutoni went with the same uniforms that the ladies from Secristan wear. Like our One Big Island neighbors, Plutoni fields a team of women for the tournament, as does Jeruselem. A recent Pocono City Sports Report poll asked Newmanistanians who they felt were the most attractive women in the tournament. Plutoni, placed third. Unfortunately, this is the sad reality we guess when a group of ladies are serious athletes and place winning and national pride over their personal apperance. Anyway the following was the result of that poll:
Secristan: 73%
Jeruselem: 21%
Plutoni: 6%
We’re sure that they don’t care about these results in Plutoni. They’re here to win. So are we, so come home early tonight from your celebrating the huge Newmanistan victory in the Cup of Harmony semifinal, and watch a little hockey. This game is pretty important itself.
The QAZOX says... RP time is over, you roody-poo candy-asses!

"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Qazox took control of Group A with a 4-1 win over a game Myedvedeya, who were eliminated with the loss. Norris, after the close call with Green wombat and a day off, was this a statement game, even though the scoreboard didn't show it?"
Smythe:
"The true statement game will come against Lovisa. The Pheonix were just too much talent for a team like Myedvedeya. But they did win and with a win in the next game, would set themselves up quite nicely for a good seeding in the Quarterfinals"
Campbell:
"This was a statement game. Qazox came out and in every aspect of the game dominated Myedvedeya. 45-13 in shots? only 1 penalty? unoffically Qazox had 92 hits while Myedvedeya only could muster 22? Myedvedeya tried a physical game and were beaten by it. Qazox re-asserted itself as the preeminent team in this tourney."
Wales:
"As mentioned by Norris, the next game is against Lovisa, 1-0 losers to Green wombat. Lovisa needs to win this game to have any chance at the Quarters, while Qazox would clinch a quarterfinal berth with a win or a draw and a Green wombat loss. Faceoff is at 5:45 pm tommorrow, the early game from Rockport. Have a good night all."

WHOOOOOOOOOO! 1-0. we Beat Lovisa, and it's probably the biggest win our hockey team has ever had! Paul stood on his head and had 32 saves, once again earnign the 1st star. But the shot that Jim Simien had that scored the only goal, they'll be replaying his goal for years to come. Behind the Lovisa net, he picks the puck up onto his stick and flicked it right past the goalie!!! Just freaking awesome. I think he should have had the 1st star, but instaed he got the 3rd star, as Lovisa's goalie Sergio Bazer had 33 saves of his own. I'm glad that we have only one game left against Greal. We win and we're into the quarterfinals for the first time ever!

I Think Mikey the monkey boy might be hurt. He allowed in 3 goals on 3 consecutive shots in the 3rd period after Gator-man, the Conundrum and Atlas all got goals in the 2nd period. Meepy, our Mime Clown has offered, I think, to play in net for our final game against Jeruselem, but i think after our rest day tomorrow, Mikey should be ok. I hope so. Since we have tommorrow off, I decided to let the team just do what ever they want to do, meaning there might be a clown or two sleeping it off in a Rockport Jail-cell, as we're heading there right now. I just hope none of them do anything too stupid.

THE ROCKET REPORT
GREAT ACTION LEADS TO KEY VICTORY
Pika City, Qazox- It was the first time that Newmanistan and Plutoni had ever met in anything, but after the display of hockey we witnessed last night, fans may be yearning for more matchups. No, Plutoni doesn’t need to be half naked to garner attention. Instead these ladies do it with high quality hockey skill. It was an important game for both, but moreso likely for the Rockets given that they have to come back from their loss to Septentrionia. With their thrilling 5-4 OT victory here at the Pika Bank and Trust Center, the Rockets have improved to 1-1, and have only the teams that most would consider the “weaker” teams of the group. It’s a little tough to figure out where exactly Newmanistan stands right now in the group with their game in hand on the teams considered the main contenders. But two more wins would see then through.
Anyway, let’s not look too far ahead. Those of us watching the game between celebrating the win in the Cup of Harmony semifinal and anticipating the big final coming up certainly found it worthwhile. Plutoni struck quickly out of the gate, scoring at the 2:06 mark to go up by one. Rachelle Conary deflected home a point shot from captain Lolo Barnhart to make it 1-0. But any momentum that they hoped to get off that early goal was quickly put to bed. Before the PA announcer could finishing reading off the scorers, the game was tied at 1. Kevin Reschke and Pierre Chalifoux caught the defense by surprise and had a sudden 2-on-1. Reschke’s pass to Chalifoux was right on tape, and he lifted it above the blocker of Jen Brixley for the goal, officially scored at 2:27. So, the game was on. The fans knew it and the players knew it. This was going to be a battle. After some exciting end to end action, Plutoni was awared a power play when Jake Trombley was called for boarding Kelsey Shabble. He then drew an extra two minutes when he called Shabble a whiny b***h. The Rockets killed off the first two minutes, but Plutoni made Trombley pay for his insult, scoring on the second half. Melanie Sturm this time, at 14:03. In the waning moments of the period, Shabble decided to go back after Trombley and gave him a wicked slash behind the knees while the referee wasn’t looking. She had a grin on her face as she skated back to the bench and Trombley limped to the bench (he would go the dressing room immediately and did not return). Plutoni left the ice up by the one goal and outshot the Rockets 14-13.
Tensions from the Shabble slash did not die at intermission, and Rockets agitator Shawn Evans saw to it to do his thing and start getting under the skin of the opponent. Coach Dayton gave Evans plenty of ice time, and he would get Plutoni to commit two penalties in the first five minutes of the period. Unfortunately, their penalty kill was up to the task and killed them both off. While the Rockets had some momentum early, Plutoni began to get it back and scored what appeared to be a back-breaking goal at the 8:21 mark. This time it was Gigi Perkins making it 3-1. The Plutoni supporters were getting loud and began to sense a victory, they knew their team had a strong defensive system and they seemed confident that they would hold on. What they failed to consider was the heart and character of the Rockets. They weren’t about to roll over and say die, and in the second half of the period, the game shifted back in the favor of the sky blue and white. They were controlling the play, and peppering Brixley with shots. Initially, she did a great job at turning them aside, but they would solve her late. At 15:40, a pretty deke by Scott Meadows got Brixley to bite, and he lifted it right under the crossbar to make it 3-2. Then, less then 3 minutes later, Newmanistan tied up the game at 18:31. Meadows again made a terrific play in the offensive zone, but this time it was his pass that did it, setting up Alex Marchese for a slapshot that went through the five-hole. Now, it was the Rockets supporters making all the noise. Plutoni was a bit stunned. They weren’t supposed to have given up the lead so easily. Thanks to outshooting Plutoni 10-2 in the final ten minutes of the period, Newmanistan outshot them 18-11 in the period, and now led the shots category 31-25.
Newmanistan hoped to bring that momentum into the third period, and at the start of it, they did, getting 6 shots on Brixley in the first four minutes of the game, but she was up to it, turning them all aside to keep her team in the game. Both teams then began settling down and playing more conservatively, and this would be an advantage to Plutoni. Now they could assert themselves, and around the midpoint of the period, they seemed in control. At 11:01, they were. Gigi Perkins scored her second of the game on a pretty wristshot over the glove of Sanders to make it 4-3. Now, they would clamp down on defense and there was no way they were going to lose the lead this time. Right? For a while, yes. With 1:33 left in the third period, the Rockets sent Craig Sanders to the bench for the extra attacker. They got good pressure, and with 48 seconds left, they were rewarded. A furious rush on net let to maze of players in front of Brixley. With the puck bouncing around in front of her, the stick of Alex Marchese would locate it first and he would slide it inside to tie the game up at 4. A huge tally, and folks, we were going to overtime. Third period shots were even at nine apiece.
Overtime had to be a tough pill to swallow for Plutoni. It just really wasn’t in their makeup to be blowing the kinds of leads as they had done here tonight. What should have been three points, now, they would be happy to come away with two. For Newmanistan, they knew it was time to steal a point or two in this game. At 4:11, a point shot from Tom Stewart seemed innocent enough, but it would beat the glove of Brixley for a huge goal, sending Newmanistan to a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory. Newmanistan outshot Plutoni 4-1 in OT, and outshot them for the game 44-35. Next up, will be Colburne.

Lovisa: Clinches quarterfinal berth with a regulation win and either a Qazox loss, a Qazox OT win or draw or an OT win and a Qazox OT win or a draw and a Qazox draw or a Qazox loss to advance.
Qazox: Clinches quarterfinal berth with a regulation win or an OT win and a Lovisa OT win or draw or loss, or a draw and a Lovisa draw or loss.
IF Both Lovisa and Qazox win, the 3 teams would have to be ranked by H2H GD in the matches contested between the 3 teams. Qazox would win the group (Qazox +1 GD, Lovisa 0 GD, Green wombat -1 GD). After that, Green wombat would take 2nd place, as they defeated Lovisa H2H (1-0).
Both Greal and Myedvedeya are eliminated.
GROUP B:
Septentrionia: Clinched Quarterfinal berth and Group Title.
Newmanistan: Clinches quarterfinal berth with a Regulation win or an OT win or a draw and a Plutoni OT win or draw or loss.
Plutoni: Clinches quarterfinal berth with either a Regulation win and a Newmanistan draw or loss or OT win and a Newmanistan loss.
Jeru FC: Clinches quarterfinal berth with a Regulation win and a Plutoni loss or draw.
colburne is eliminated.
IF Newmanistan and Plutoni are level on points, Newmanistan has the H2H tie-breaker, IF Plutoni and Jeru FC are level on points, Plutoni has H2H tiebreaker. IF Jeru FC beats Newmanistan in OT and Plutoni draws, the 3 teams will be level on points. The H2H tiebreakers would see Plutioni advance on H2H GD amongst the teams: (Plutoni +3 GD, Newmanistan 0 GD, Jeru FC -3 GD)
GROUP C:
Kelssek: Clinched quarterfinal berth and Group title.
Jeruselem: Clinches quarterfinal berth with a draw vs. Prux.

Qazox lost to Lovisa 3-2, forcing the defending champions and hosts into a must-win game against Greal. the good news is if Qazox wins in regulation, they are in. But if they win in OT or draw, then they would need Lovisa to lose to Myedvedeya. So Patrick, Do the Pheonix, who until the waning moments of this game, looked unbeatable; get in?"
Campbell:
"They might not. Greal, while eliminated, have only allowed 2 goals a game and gave bothe Lovisa and Green wombat all they could handle. Against Qazox, I expect them to pull out all the stops and they could force the Pheonix into OT, which would not be good."
Smythe:
"Right you are, Pat. Lovisa should have no problem dispatching Myedvedeya and the pressure will be on Qazox. But this team thrives on pressure. I think they will come out against Greal and nail them to the wall early and win comfortably."
Wales:
"In other action today, Green wombat, due to tiebreakers; have advanced, as have Kelssek, Septentrionia and Valanora, 3 teams who are each looking to a title later this month. The big games of the day, besides Qazox' are Jeruselem vs. prux and Taeshan vs. Magnus Valerius. If our fellow continuum members don't win, they are gone. In fact, if Qazox loses or doesn't advance somehow, Green wombat, the lowest ranked of the 4 continuum members competing would be the only one advancing to the next round. Well tommorrow is time to put-up or shut up for all. Until then, Good night."

A 2-1 win over Greal and we have advanced! Something about tiebreakers, but we're In! And we get an extra day to celebrate! Got to go now, the team's waiting at the nearest bar, and there's a chick there that really likes Hockey players.

I believe this is officially called "Closing Hand on Puck" when it occurs, when it is not simply whistled down for a hand pass. Depending on where it occurs, this can also lead to a penalty shot.

THE ROCKET REPORT
PARTY AND WIN
Qazox City, Qazox- There was a festive, celebratory mood in the air at the Ox-Cola Center in Qazox City. And none of it had to do with hockey. The traveling Rockets supporters who made the trip were celebrating the news of a Cup of Harmony championship, one of the nations biggest titles, if not the biggest (Baptism of Fire, in our opinion is number one due to only having once chance) to date. So they were loud and ready to make noise. The neutral Qazox fans who chose to attend this game also had plenty to celebrate. After two close calls in the first two World Bowls, they also won a championship last night, coming in World Bowl III. So they too, were in celebratory mood and wanting to make noise. Put the two together, and it was a party atmosphere with plenty of Ox-Cola being purchased to keep the arena sponsor happy. The supporters of the Republic of Colburne hope to one day have a big celebration of their own like this, and they hoped they could have it at the end of this game, but Newmanistan would put away their team by the score of 4-2, improving to 2-1-1. Even in the late game, with Septentrionia playing here, there would be celebrating fans, after all they have plenty of reason to celebrate in Septentrionia after their nation did a great job in the co-hosting of World Cup 42, which also came to an end last night. Now their fans too, will focus on the hockey. Our One Big Island neighbors Secristan, were in Colburne’s shoes too, with the neutral Qazox fans and the partying Valanoran fans as Valanora won World Cup 42 last night. Just one all big night of fun in the sporting world.
As for this game, played in the shadows of the championships that were handed out (and we here their still celebrating in Myedvedeya after their Basketball win), Newmanistan’s goal was to have a better game defensively after surrendering four goals against Plutoni while at the same time, have the kind of strong offensive performance that they had in the 5-4 OT victory. Against Colburne, they needed to win in regulation, and they knew it. Due to something called the coattails effect where the success of one team leads to success of another, the Rockets were heavily inspired to take it to Colburne early and absolutely dominated play in the first period, leading to two goals in the first seven minutes of play. Try as Ryan Joseph might, he was being peppered with shots and there was nothing his defense could do about it. At 3:41, Steve Cushman picked up a goal, set up nicely in the slot by Steve Meadows to make it 1-0. Alex Marchese also get an assist. Then at 6:50, Eric Givens simply blasted a slapper by Joseph to make it 2-0. Don’t worry, Mr. Joseph, you’re definitely not the first goalie to be beat by his slapper which has been clocked at 104 MPH. Reschke and Conroy get the assists. We almost forgot to mention, that Jake Trombley was a scratch tonight after getting hurt in the game against Plutoni. Alex Shields dressed in his place. But now, with the Rockets up 2-0, there were new reasons to celebrate with Newmanistan and Qazox fans exchanging chants of “World Bowl III” and “ C- O- H!” as the minutes of the first period ticked away. The Rockets took their foot off the gas pedal a little bit towards the end of the period as the final buzzer sounded after this frame with a 2-0 Rockets lead and a 15-5 shots advantage on the scoreboard.
Much of the chanting back and forth subsided in the second period as the fans realized that there were here to watch hockey. The game itself wasn’t going to win any awards for thrilling end to end action, as the Rockets fell back into a defense system to hold on to the two goal lead. Let us not forget the defensive roots of this team. Sure, they said they were goign to open it up more during this Frozen World Cup and that has certainly been the case, but when up by two goals, they wanted to make sure they came away with three points as the standings right now are pretty tight in Group B. Soon enough though, the score would change as the Rockets sat back and waited to bounce on an opportunity. When Bryan Moore’s breakout pass instead found the stick the forechecking Dan Stover, Stover was in alone and knew what to do with the puck, scoring an unassisted goal over Joseph’s glove at 12:26 to make it 3-0. Now, victory seemed in reach, and the fans began to wake up. Not even a Colbourne tally at 16:05 could put much of a damper in it. The game still seemed to be in the control of the sky blue and white with the 3-1 lead. They didn’t have a lot of shots on net, but their 8-6 advantage kept them in their favor by a 23-11 margin after two periods. Just one more period, and the Newmanistan fans would have another reason to celebrate.
As the third period began, Colburne wanted to show that they were a team of strong character and came out skating hard doing whatever they could to make the comeback. They dominated the early minutes of the third period, even though there was a confidence amongst the Rockets fans in attendance that their defense was going to make a play or that Craig Sanders was going to make the big save when he needed too. And sure enough, this was the case. Colburne soon found out that this was going to be a difficult comeback for them to try and make with Sanders looking sharp and wanting to make amends for allowing four in the last game. Allowing four would soon be what Ryan Joseph’s day would be like as once again the Rockets pounced on an opportunity and suddenly got all the momentum back on their side. Again it was the forcheck of Dan Stover, who intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and this time Larry Davidson along the left wing. Davidson, who was obviously aware of how Eric Givens blasted his slapper by Joseph, took a slapper of his own which would light the red lamp behind the goalie at 8:47 to make it 4-1. That, should be the icing on the cake and it would again prompt the Newmanistan and Qazox fans to exchange chants of the major championships that they won earlier in the day. Colburne tried to get back in the game, but the neutral zone trap of the Rockets was simply too much. They would close to within 4-2 at 17:44, but it was too little too late. Newmanistan would get the two goal win to move them past idle Plutoni in the Group B standings. Colburne did outshoot Newmanistan 13-6 in the third, but overall the Rockets took the shot battle 29-24. The Rockets will close out their group schedule against Jeru FC in what will be a pretty important game. They have never met in hockey, and only once in football for that matter.
Sorry about the cutoff coming so late, some damn asshole wouldn't get off my computer.

"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Qazox beat greal 5-1, clinching the group title on tiebreakers over Green wombat and Lovisa, who won their game 4-3 over Myedvedeya. So this sets up the Pheonix vs. Prux. A battle of the last two teams to have won a WCoH title. Norris who wins that series?"
Smythe:
"Qazox, but in 3 games. Prux hasn't looked great, as the circus hasn't live up to expectations. But Qazox has been tripped up in the past in these types of series, a wrong bounce here or there and we'll be spectators at home."
Campbell:
"Qazox should win it, and here's why: OFFENCE. they scored 16 goals so far this tourney, the most so far, and they are playing at the Ox-Cola Center Those 17,000+ fans won't let the team lose."
Wales:
"In the other do-or die games, Prux, beat Jeruslem 1-0 in OT, barely qualifying, Newmnaistan eked out a 3-2 win voer Jeru Fc to qualify, while Taeshan doubled up Magnus Valerius 4-2 to earn their way in. So that sets up the quarterfinals like this:
Qazox v. Prux
Septentrionia vs. Taeshan
Kelssek vs. Newmanistan
Valanora vs. Green wombat
We already heard about the Qazox-Prux showdown. Patrick, who you see advancing?"
Campbell:
"The easiest of this to pick is Valanora over Green wombat. Valanora is just too potent of a defense to allow the Wolves any chance to win. I see Taeshan beating Septentrioni in 3 and Newmanistan to upset Kelssek."
Smythe:
"Not so fast, my friend. Of the 8 teams left, Newmanistan has the worst defense and Kelssek has probably the 2nd best offense. Kelssek in 2. I agree that Valanora is too tough for Greewn wombat, at this time and that should be a sweep. But the underdog here is Septentrionia. They drew Plutoni, who were amongst the best in the world going into this tourney, and whupped the other teams in their group. I see them knocking off Taeshan in 3."

Tough test awaits as Kelssek drops final group game
It was just not the way Team Kelssek wanted to head into the quarterfinals against Newmanistan, a team on the up and full of confidence, as they dropped their final game of the group stage losing 4-3 to Kenavt.
The upset result means Kelssek will have a lot to pick up when they face Newmanistan in Qazox City for a spot in the final four. Newmanistan have won three straight games and haven't yet been beaten in regulation time, and are looking like the dark horses of this World Cup, too.
Dismal performances on the powerplay, which was zero for six, consigned the Blueleafs to an ignonimous loss to a team already eliminated and without a win until last night. To Kenavt's credit, they earned the win through sheer guts, responding to being down 3-1 at the second intermission with three unanswered goals as a shell-shocked Kelssek team tried to figure out what on Earth was going on.
While Gary Bavarillo and Sydney Crawford can hold their heads high, much less can be said for the rest of the team as they struggled to contain a much lower-rated team and defensive errors of the kind not expected of one of the world's top teams plagued the game throughout. Coasting into a 3-1 lead they didn't really deserve also could not have prepared them for the gutsy comeback by Kenavt.
After stepping up so well to shut out Patetopia, John Baron was also surprisingly leaky, beaten on the short side twice and looking like a candidate for the hook at some points in the game. It's an indication of how much Kelssek could miss Brian Duborny, who has now been ruled out of the rest of the tournament with a fractured collarbone.
Kelssek did, however, finish top of the group as Prux sank Jeruselem in overtime, which is something they can take heart from. And it will take much more heart than was displayed last night to earn the semi-final spot.
The Circus Daily, by Head Coach/Ringmaster, Harold Reed
After 60 minutes of Hockey, Jeruselem and ourselves were tied 0-0. Great. and Both the Conundrum and The Gator-Man were out, the first due to a game misconduct penalty for trying to impersonate the offical; the second due to a broken ankle. So with 2 clowns on the front line, our chances looked bleak. But Lolo, the only other woman on the team besides Helga, scored 1:20 into the OT, and we're going on! But now we have to face Qazox, the defending champs, and the hosts, in Qazox City, their capital. Most everyone expects us to go home after the 2nd game, But I have a trick or two up my sleeve.

THE ROCKET REPORT
ROCKETS WIN PHYSICAL ENCOUNTER
SaxerVilla, Qazox- They didn’t participate in the cycling competition here recently, but the schedule makers certainly have the Rockets hockey team (and everyone else) doing their own Tour de Qazox. The final game of the group stage was an important one for the Rockets against Jeru FC, and it would take the Rockets back to their roots. As in, the World Cup of Hockey 6 team that tried to beat you by outmuscling you. Jeru FC, a team of military men were out to prove their toughness, and the gloves dropped on several occasions. There was a game to be played too, and in it, Newmanistan earned a 3-2 win to secure second place in the group.
The first period saw Jeru FC attempt to set a physical tone, and coach Dayton responded by sending out the third and fourth lines a little more then he would early in a game. It didn’t take long for fight number 1, as Tyrone Haggerty, who’s on the team for this reason only want to battle with a Jeru FC player. Winner: Haggerty. Less then a minute later, came out second bout, a tilt involving Alexander Sedlek. On this one, we’ll give the win to the Jeru FC tough guy. Seeing a dirty game potentially beginning to unfold, the referee began to call just about every hit, and a parade of players from both teams were heading to the box. For a while his message seemed to be delivered as the middle stages of the period began to have more of an emphasis on hockey and not boxing. At 14:06, we would have our first goal, but it would be scored by Jeru FC off a jam up in front of the net. It would be the only goal of a period that saw a combined 48 penalty minutes. Jeru FC outshot the Rockets, 9-8 for the period.
Early in the second period, the Rockets would get that goal back as in the first minute, noted agitator Shawn Evans drew a power play by slashing a Jeru FC player in the leg which they referee did not see, but he did see the retaliation, which was a elbow to Evans face, which Shawn gladly would take for the team. He’s done it many times in the Empire Hockey League, and often against the very people he is now teammates with here. On the power play, the Rockets got good sustained pressure in the offensive zone and the goal would be scored off a Steve Meadows deflection of a shot from the point from Kevin Regan. With that, we were tied up at 1:56. Evans was beginning to get in the head of the military men, as not too long later he would draw another power play for the Rockets by doing much the same thing. Newmanistan did not score on this power play, but it helped them get the momentum in their favor. At about the 10 minute mark, one of their players took a nasty slash at Evans, and was called for a 5 minute major for spearing, and a game misconduct. This set off another fight that saw Evans (who was not hurt by the spear once the referee raised his arm) get involved, and also Brian Freeman drop the gloves. The fights would draw the same penalties, so now the Rockets had a 5-minute power play to work with, and they would make it count. At 13:11, the Rockets took the lead for the first time in the game on a wrist shot by Alex Marchese, with assists to Regan and Meadows. With the team still on the same power play, they would score again, this time at 14:33. Kevin Reschke would get his name on the scoresheet by onetiming a perfect pass through the slot from Pierre Chalifoux. Two goals on the power play, and Newmanistan looked to be in the drivers seat. The period would end with the Rockets up 3-1. Newmanistan had a huge 22-7 shot advantage in the period, and for the game now lead there 30-16.
Newmanistan would attempt to play defensively in the third period to protect the two goal lead, but unfortunately the referee had to do something about this power play deal. He had given the Rockets nine power plays to this point, with one being a five minute major, and Jeru FC had only had four. So like most referees, the Rockets had a lot of penalty killing to do just so he could even things out. At 2:14, it was Reschke for obstruction- hooking. At 5:01, Meadows for holding. At 8:39, Cushman for holding the stick (which he probably had in his grasp for half a second). The Rockets did a great job killing off these power plays, but the next one at 12:04, the could not kill off. Again, it was a simple thing, Chalifoux for obstruction- hooking. Jeru FC scored 12 seconds into this power play to make it 3-2. At this point, the power plays were 9-8, and the referee was probably content with that and put the whistle away. Knowing they needed to win, Jeru FC had their focus in the right spot. Hockey and not combat. They continued to carry the play but found themselves frustrated by Craig Sanders who had a strong game, even though it might not look so if you just look at the box score. With him, the Rockets held off this frantic charge, and win the game by the score of 3-2 to secure their quarterfinal berth, which will be against Kelssek. Jeru FC held a 19-5 shots advantage in the period, making shots even at 35 apiece at game’s end.
Plutoni national ice hockey blog: WCoH 7, Matchday 5:
Won and done
A 4-2 victory over Colbourne was not enough to see Plutoni through to the second round, as the Newmanistanian Rockets matched Plutoni's success to advance.
Diane Quilliar assisted on Rachelle Conary's first period goal, and Conary would score again before the second period, in which Benita Volla quickly compensated for David Rolston's goal. In the third period, Andy Martin and Lindsey Patterson scored.

1. icebaby: Deep insight there, almost as deep as...I don't know, the liveblong one-liner?
2. onsides: A men's team could and should have made it to the bracket.
3. delayed_miracle: Was it worth the risk? Probably. People are talking positively about Plutoni ice hockey for a change, now all we need is to make it for the right reasons.
4. bocky_boy: Remember how we'd have sounded if we'd said, before we started, that going 2-1-1 would be a disappointment. Sincere congratulations to all our girls.
5. outtacontrol: come on rockets now! there's a team to root for based on nickname alone
6. mrdude: why dont' plutoni have a nickname??
7. freebored: we should be the tortoises, considering how much the government spends on protecting the stupid things. if we're gonna have a team represent "us", go all out and see how ridiculous it is

THE ROCKET REPORT
ROCKETS READY FOR KELSSEK
Qazox City, Qazox- After a strong 3-1-0 performance, and some will say a should-be 4-0-0 performance, the Rockets head to the quarterfinals for a three game series against Kelssek, a nation that has earned a strong reputation for having success in the Frozen World Cup. The Blueleafs are a favorite to win the Championship every time one of these tournaments come around and this year will be no exception. There are some, such as Norris Smythe of Qazox who feel the Rockets are a fluke based on his, “Newmanistan has the worst defense” statement, which has left many players insulted and ready to prove him wrong. Coach Chris Dayton has pinned the quote up on the blackboard in the meeting room, and behind the doors of each of their hotel rooms. I, (Kevin Collins) sat down with Dayton to discuss things.
KC: Good morning, I’m here with Chris Dayton, the head coach of Newmanistan’s hockey team. How are you tonight?
CD: Feeling good, my pleasure to be here.
KC: Newmanistan had a good showing in the group stage, with no regulation losses and one controversial loss. You have to be pleased with the performance.
CD: I am, we’ve done well. We’ve had a better group stage then we did in the last Frozen World Cup, and I feel good about our chances against Kelssek.
KC: Most consider Kelssek the favorite. So, perhaps, there is no pressure on you guys.
CD: They’ve earned their right through the years to be called the favorite, but if you look at how both teams have performed so far, I expect us to be on even terms and to have some great games.
KC: There’s been a lot of attention to Norris Smythe’s comment that Newmanistan has the worst defense. What is your take on that?
CD: You would expect that someone named “Norris” would know that good defense stems from more then just looking at a goals against number, and saying look, that team has the worst defense. Mr. Smythe fails to realize that the Rockets had less cream puffs in their group who couldn’t score for (expletive). We could have mopped the floor with Greal, Patetopia, and Maime-whatever. And Myedvedeya stunk. You don’t make such a comment also when there’s very little difference. We allowed 11. Most teams allowed 8 or 9. I would call that pretty even, across the board, wouldn’t you?
KC: Yes, it did seem a little ridiculous. Not to mention their were the garbage goals that Colburne scored after the game was won, so while the goal is in our precious little GA column, the Septentrionia game never should have gone to OT because of the goal that was wrongly disallowed that we scored, the Rockets are right in there with that group of 8 and 9 teams.
CD: Exactly, so yes, we are definitely using that as bulletin board material, here. Because you have to remember that we pride ourselves on defense, and to be called out like that is a challenge, and we will step up to it.
KC: But Mr. Smythe didn't stop there. He also said that other then their tie with Plutoni, that Septentrionia "Whupped" the rest of the teams in the group. They whupped us? Really? 3-2 in OT is a whupping? And that's not even going into the argument that their shouldn't have been OT in the first place.
CD: Yes, that too, is bulletin board material. If I were the CEO of QSPN I would really consider canning this guy because you don't make baseless comments like that in a world competition hosted by your nation. Most of us would love to win this Cup just so we can take the article and shove it down his throat. To claim we have the worst defense has some base at least. To say we were whupped by Septentrionia is a downright insult.
KC: Kelssek media, on the contrary, paid a lot of respect to the Rockets, calling them the dark horse of the tournament.
CD: Well what we see there is a case of the Kelssek media knowing their hockey and not just looking at numbers. That shouldn’t surprise anyone though, it’s a great nation of this sport.
KC: You guys played Kelssek twice in the group stage of the last tournament, and split the two meetings. And as Mr. Smythe forgot, goalie Craig Sanders had a shutout in one of those meetings. Will that familiarity help here?
CD: It will just by the fact that we know we can beat them since we split with them last time, and that we are a better team then we were in the last tournament.
KC: Alright, Chris, I’ll let you go. Good luck tonight.
CD: Thanks Kevin.
Had enough of a scores break?
I thought so.

"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Game one of the Quarterfinals and Qazox won 3-1 over Prux, setting up an elimination game tommorrow afternoon. Norris, Any chance Prux forces a game 3?"
Smythe:
"I think there is. Qazox looked good early in this game, but that was helped by 4 Prux penalties, and 2 Powerplay goals. The final 40 minutes, Prux out-shot Qazox 19-14 and had a goal disallowed due to a skate in the crease. The Pheonix need to get out to an early lead again, then maybe the series will be over."
Campbell:
"Despite Qazox being out shot 19-14 over the final 2 periods; Norris you're forgetting that Qazox out shot Prux 13-3 in the first period. Setting the early tone. Qazox has the talent to sweep this team."
Wales:
"In other News, Newmanistan's Head Coach, Chris Dayton, called out our own Norris Smythe saying the following:
"You would expect that someone named “Norris” would know that good defense stems from more then just looking at a goals against number, and saying look, that team has the worst defense. Mr. Smythe fails to realize that the Rockets had less cream puffs in their group who couldn’t score for (expletive). We could have mopped the floor with Greal, Patetopia, and Maime-whatever. To say we were whupped by Septentrionia is a downright insult."
Norris, would you care to respond?
Smythe:
"First of all, If Newmanistan's defense was as good as their coach claims they are, then Why did they allow 4 goals to the 2 weakest teams in the group?, while Septentrionia allowed only 2? Newmanistan barely won those two games as it was. As for the "whupped by Septentrionia" comment. I stand by it. I don't care that a goal was disallowed. You still had plenty of time to score again and beat them, but instead your defense allowed them to beat you. I know you beat Kelssek today 2-1, in OverTime. Hey your defense took my words to heart more than yours. Now that's something for you to think about, Mr. Dayton. Now as for the CEO of QSPN comment; I'm a former QHL Head Coach, invited to talk about the World Cup of Hockey as a FAVOR to QSPN, for adequate compensation. I hope that your team does make the final vs. Qazox, 'Cause your defense will be run into the ground. I apologize for the bias, but that's my opinion, which is why this is the 2nd highest rated QSPN Special Program, after Inside the Cones: The search for Qazox City's New Cheerleading Squad."

We played like crap. 4 penalties and only 3 shots on net in the first period, and we allowed 2 goals, and 1 clown got hurt, Mumbles. But we did manage to outplay Qazox in the 2nd and 3rd periods. But a 3-1 loss is a loss, and now we have to win the next two games to have any chance at the Semis. I guess it's time to bring in the secret weapon. Peanut, the elephant will be starting in Goal instead of Mikey the monkey boy. I'd like to see Qazox score on a goalie that not only takes up the entire net, but about 2 feet in each side.

We got beaten 2-0 by Valanora, but the silver lining is, we only allowed them 19 shots! and we missed all 31 of ours as Arminas Carnesîr was a beast in net.
Oh and they girl I hooked up with the other night? Maria Sallad. One of the Jeruselem girls, you know the ones related to the Dallas Clan? No wonder why she knew what a Taeshani Tsunami was, and not too mention what a Cafundeu Cleaning, or a Valanora Vacuum was also. And the best part? even though Jeruselem was eliminated, she still stuck around! Maybe there is hope yet for this kid from Wachovia!

OVER ALREADY?
Well, it's been over for a little while now for the Ice Girls, as they did not advance out of group play, so it was a quick four and out for them. They did impress at times, and look out of place at others, but the end result in terms of on ice production is satisfactory. They finished 2-2, and the big blow was the loss to Magnus Valerius. Had they won there, then these young ladies are taking on Septentrionia right now. The SDOS reports that profits were also satisfactory, though they wish the team would have had more games.
Due to this, the SDOS is making a proposal to Plutoni, the other team of all women. An exhibition game between the nations with the Plutoni team wearing the same kind of uniform that our Ice Girls wore. We will play the game in Qazox, or even travel to Plutoni if they want.
We hope that Plutoni sees this proposal, and accepts.

Exhibition set with Secristan
The Plutonian ice hockey team has confirmed an exhibition game will be played against Secristan, which was also eliminated in the group stage. This is Secristan's first ice hockey tournament.
The game will be played in Qazox.
Comments:
1. icebaby: Leaving out a few critical details methinks.
2. seb: Well this is more like it. I can't believe it's over after only five days. Isn't the point of (ice) hockey tournaments to go on forever?
3. onsides: And I thought the Newmanistanian match was a farce. Somebody ought to be ashamed of themselves.
4. bocky_boy: Quick look around the blogosphere suggests that Plutoni's team will be wearing Secristani-style uniforms. Can't imagine how well this is gonna go over...
5. cassi: Somebody's quoting Rachelle Conary (http://hockey17.plu/forums/forum=3?topic=3513?post=87) as having said "This is just an excuse for both countries to profit. I wouldn't kid myself into expecting actual hockey." Can't get a source though.
6. bocky_boy: Hardly need one, knowing the skill Plutoni's got out there somebody's bound to be thinking that.

THE ROCKET REPORT
SANDERS LEADS WAY IN GAME 1 WIN
Qazox City, Qazox- Not bad for the “worst defense”, now was it? In the opening game of the quarterfinals against a strong opponent in Kelssek, the Rockets had a strong showing to take a 2-1 victory in overtime giving them the opening game of the best of three series. As he was in the group stage last year, goalie Craig Sanders was brilliant, completely shutting down the Blueleafs attack, and he got plenty of excellent defensive play in front of him.
Kelssek is one of the best teams in the world, although they didn’t really get tested in their Group C and they cruised to the group title, knocking off two walkovers and a group of clowns to a 3-1-0 record. Their loss was forgivable, given that they already had the group wrapped up beforehand. Last night’s game may have been their first true test of the Frozen World Cup, and they came out wanting to establish an up tempo style of game. The line of Sydney Crawford, Neville Keanes, and Laurent Oberforsky was in top form and got plenty of opportunities, only to be denied by Sanders. Perhaps he was getting in their heads early, as we all know hockey players have outstanding memories. It wasn’t that long ago where Sanders completely shut them down before, and here he was doing it again. Crawford alone was credited with five shots in the first period, and the Blueleafs had a couple of power play chances also, but kept getting denied. None of their fourteen first period shots would find the back of the net. As far as the Rockets were concerned, they were back on their heels a little bit. It did seem as though they wanted to make sure they had their defensive responsibilities in check before getting too aggressive with offense. They would get six shots on goal in a scoreless first period.
On we went then to the second, with Kelssek still determined to get a shot by Sanders so that they could take early lead. As obvious as that might sound, this mentality may have cost them a little bit as they began to force shots, taking them from bad angles, and shooting when they should be passing. They started to become predictable with this and soon found that less of their shots were even reaching Sanders and were being blocked by the defense. Eventually, the Rockets were able to get some momentum going their way, and by the middle stages of the period, Newmanistan was in control of the action, getting their best chances of the game. Kelssek goalie Brian Duborny didn’t have any real difficult shots to stop in the first period, and he had a good view of the saves that his counterpart was making on the other end. Now, it was his turn to put on a show, and he immediately delivered the message to the Rockets that they were going to have just as difficult of a time scoring tonight. Pierre Chalifoux and Alex Marchese had the best chances of the period in which Duborny was able to keep out. Late in the period, we were also treated to a fight between Tyrone Haggerty and Harry White (OOC: figured your 4th line RW would be a likely candidate to go at it) that lasted a good two minutes. Both fighters did their best to try and ignite some more energy for their teams as the game would soon enter its final period. Still scoreless, Newmanistan outshot Kelssek 15-9 in the period, and now 21-20 for the game.
With the goalies stealing the show tonight, both teams were cognizant of the fact that just one mistake may just very well cost them the game. The up tempo style of the game slowed down considerably, as passes became more conservative and the teams waited for each other to make that mistake. Both also seemed to want to get some help from the referee, but he had put his whistle away for the third period. Around the midway point, the Blueleafs began to turn it up, as if instructed by their coach that they should be the better team and that they had to go out there and win this game instead of trying not to lose it. They sustained pressure, and got shots on Sanders but continued to be frustrated. Eventually their persistence would pay off. At 14:23, Laurent Oberforsky got to a rebound of a shot by Crawford a half second before the defense could clear the puck and found some room between Sanders’ outstretched leg and his blocker to make it 1-0. The Kelssek fans were going nuts. They had gotten their goal that at this point in this game looked to be the game winner. It would send them to the one game lead in the series. Except, someone forgot to tell this script to the Rockets. As less then two minutes later, at 16:04, all that cheering would be silenced and the previously silenced would now be the ones erupting in cheers. Larry Davidson took a one timer off a pass from Kevin Reschke and simply did not miss. It came on a 2-on-1 break and the shot was placed just an inch or so underneath the crossbar for the game tying goal. The third period buzzer would sound, and we were going to OT. Shots were 8-6 Kelssek in the 3rd, and 28-27 in their favor for the game to this point.
The big question in overtime would obviously be which team would get off to the better start. Given the nature of how we headed into the extra session, one would think that it would be the Rockets that would have the momentum, and this would be the case at the beginning of overtime. But Brian Duborny was not about to let Newmanistan get a quick game winner, turning aside five early Newmanistan shots, as he tried to keep his team in the game. But his teammates in front of him starting to look a little leg weary, and their passes got a little sloppy, and this would cost the Blueleafs the game. A breakout pass from Colin Calderwood was intercepted by Steve Meadows and he was in alone on Duborny. He made the goalie make the first move with a deke to his forehand, then lifted the puck over Duborny’s glove on his backhand for the game winner at 3:40. With it, the Rockets take the first game of the series. Newmanistan took all six shots of overtime, and would outshoot the Blueleafs 33-28 for the game.
(ooc to Plutoni and Secristan: I'll scorinate your exhibition tonight, if you don't mind)

"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Game two of the Quarterfinals and Qazox won 2-1 over Prux, advancing to the semifinals once again. Patrick, who will they face, as the Septentrionia-Taeshan series sees a Game 3, as does Kelssek-Newmanistan. Who wins those games?"
Campbell:
"First off, Qazox showed true grit in this game. Trailing 1-0 going into the 3rd period and with an early Prux Powerplay, this team could have folded and went to a game 3, but a Shorthanded goal, which snuck by Prux' elephant, don't get me started on that; tied it up and the momentum was the Pheonix' for the rest of the night. As for the Septentrionia-Taeshan series, which ever team can get an early lead, will most likely win, as both of these teams are great defensively. As for the other matchup, If Newmanistan can get an early goal, they'll put tremendous pressure on Kelssek and that is not how Kelssek likes playing. I see an upset winner in Newmanistan in another OT classic."
Smythe:
Taeshan wins, by a goal in OT. I agree with Patrick. Qazox was being beaten in all aspects of this game and one goal changed momentum. I also see Kelssek just coming out and ripping through the Newmanistani defense for a couple of early goals and Kelssek will advance to face Valanora.

We're going home. Though I must say, having an elephant in net worked for the first 2 periods as all 17 of Qazox' shots were stopped. But a deflection off of Helga's skate on a 4-minute power play tied it and after somehow a bag of peanuts (I think that a Sorthern Northernite was in attendance and missed a Jeruselem fan..) landed near the elephant, Qazox got the winner. But stopping 29 of 31 shots was good, just wish it was 31/31. So we're back on tour starting thursday in Kelssek. I hope those lawyers' check clears.

I'm 28 years old, and my knees just aren't right anymore, but I know hockey. And a chance to build a team from the ground up? And throw in the fact that technically, Marie will be my boss? KEANES KEEPS THE DREAM ALIVE
If there was a time in this World Cup of Hockey that Kelssek could be said to have had their backs to the wall, this was it. Down one game in the series to Newmanistan and fighting for survival after a heartbreaker of an overtime loss, they needed to dig deep and show character.
That's exactly what they did.
Captain Neville Keanes demonstrated why he's the team's leader as he had a hand in all three of Kelssek's goals as they battled to squeeze out a 3-1 win over Newmanistan in the second game of their quarterfinal series.
Laurent Oberforsky, whose quiet tournament has been the subject of some debate, finally made the breakthrough as he one-timed a pass from Keanes over Craig Sanders's outstretched pads. Coming late in the first period, it was an important goal, not just because it was the all-important first goal of the game, but because it helped a shaky-looking team find its feet after some defensive scares which John Baron did well to salvage.
Although Newmanistan had the better first period it was against the run of play that Kevin Reschke notched the equaliser at 8:22 of the second. It was one the defence could do little about as he won the offensive zone faceoff, hooked it back and then skated to the front of the net where he deflected a shot from Jake Trombley which somehow found its way through a tangle of legs and into the twine.
Up stepped Neville Keanes who immediately put things right 22 seconds later off the centre ice faceoff. Fighting off a check from Brian Freeman he took control of the dump-in, piouretted behind the net and caught out Craig Sanders with a beautiful wraparound goal. The travelling supporters went suitably nuts and began banging their drums and cheering with renewed gusto.
A bad penalty was the final nail for Newmanistan early in the third as Shawn Evans was consigned to the container of punition after chopping down Severin Jeanne with a hook. The misfiring powerplay finally found gear and Phillip Adams scored, tucking away the rebound after Neville Keanes launched a cannon at Sanders's blocker from the high slot.
Said head coach Craig Gilbert after the game, "The important thing, now, is that we pick up where we left off and keep the momentum going."
And with a semi-final spot at stake things have to click in the third and deciding game.

THE ROCKET REPORT
KEANES CARRIES KELSSEK
Qazox City, Qazox- Try as you might, a team as good as Kelssek is not about to go down without a fight. And when you are down, you call upon your captain to be the hero, to resurrect the hopes of a nation, and draw the series even. Such was the case last night as Neville Keanes, the Kelssek Captain of Blueleafs put the team on his shoulders and carried them to a victory. Well, he did have some help. That guy in net, John Baron, was outstanding as Kelssek took the second game of the series, 3-1, setting up a winner-take-all, third game which should be a great game between these two teams that have played each other very even thus far.
When Baron was announced as the starting goalie for this game, it caught the Rockets by surprise. They had expected to see Brian Duborny again, as he didn’t seem to do anything wrong in the first game, and we imagine it was stamina issue as evidenced by this game tonight, they had no reason to doubt that Baron wasn’t capable. Unfortunately, the Rockets spent much of their time in practice and watching game time in preparation for Duborny, so this was something they had to overcome. Knowing he was in goal, coach Dayton wanted to go on the all out attack early, not just so they could try and put the game and the series away as quick as they could, but so they also could see Baron up close and personal. The team executed the game plan, and the top line of Meadows-Marchese-Cushman had some great shifts to open up the game. As did the other lines, but in the first twelve minutes of the period, the Rockets had fired 14 shots on Baron, and saw them all turned aside. It took Kelssek awhile to generate a big scoring chance of their own, but they began to control the play late in the first, and this is when we saw Neville Keanes begin to try and make this his game. At 17:57 of the period, a pretty pass from Keanes was one-timed over the blocker of Sanders by Laurent Oberforsky to put the Blueleafs in front. This was a tough dagger to the Rockets, because they would have nothing to show for their 16-7 shots advantage, thanks to Baron.
The topic of discussion during the intermission was the need to adjust to Baron. The scouting staff feverishly worked during the first period to collect all the information that they could, and they would show it to the players. It had the look of a pre-game scene, rather then something you find after one period of play. There was a confidence though that they could get the goal back. They had played well, and were only down by one. The quicker they could get it, the better, too. Like in the first period, the Rockets came out controlling play in the second and got good quality shots on Baron, trying to utilize what the scouts pointed out, but nothing was working. Baron was a man on a mission, and the Rockets were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But he could not stop them all. Kevin Reschke, who’s had a terrific tournament would score the tying goal, coming on a deflection through a maze of players off the stick of Jake Trombley at 8:22. Finally, there it was. Game tied. Let’s take a deep breath. But not too big of one. Because before the Rockets could go into “now lets try to take the lead mode”, they found themselves down once again. A mere 22 seconds later, the Rockets defense seemed flat footed for the rush put together by Neville Keanes. Brian Freeman attempted to contain him to the outside, but Keanes was not going to be denied, scoring on a wrap around to put Kelssek back in front, 2-1. The goal was very deflating for the Rockets, and they never really seemed to get it going for the rest of the period. Kelssek outshot Newmanistan 12-6 for the period, with the Rockets still having the edge 22-19. Five of the Rockets six shots in the period were scored before the Reschke goal, and including it.
Now, it would be the Rockets turn to try to show some character and be the ones to bounce back. They knew the Kelssek defense would be up for the challenge, but all it would take would be one goal again. They came out revitalized, but when they got through the defense, John Baron was there to deny them again and again. Shawn Evans thought the referee wasn’t looking when he pulled down Severin Jeanne in an attempt to draw a retaliation penalty, but the referee turned his head just in time to see it. Evans, in typical Shawn Evans fashion, held his glove to his face to try and make it look as though as he was high sticked, but the referee was up to this gag and Evans may have been lucky he wasn’t slapped with an additional two for unsportsmanlike conduct. But there didn’t need to be an extra two for this penalty to hurt. Although the Rockets had done a good job containing the Kelssek power play in the series. Phillip Adams scored on a rebound of a blistering Keanes slapshot to make it 3-1 in favor of the Blueleafs, coming at the 6:15 mark. This goal was devastating, and the Rockets could not overcome it. They tried, but with the Blueleafs content to go back into a defensive shell, there was going to be no rally tonight. Newmanistan outshot Kelssek in the 3rd, 11-6, but much of that came once the score was already 3-1. They held the shots advantage 33-25, but that didn’t mean anything in terms of the final score.
A great game tonight by both Neville Keanes and John Baron as they carried Kelssek to even up this series. Now, we will await game three here in Qazox City. We don’t know who will win, but based on this series, you may have to make the winner the favorite in the semifinals.
OOC: I wasn't going to point it out since it didn't really matter at first, but now that it's such a big part of your RP...
But a shot from Atlas, broke the shoulder of Kelssek's goalie, Brian Duborny and trickled into the net for our only goal.
He's out for the tournament, so Baron is now starting.
Plutoni national ice hockey blog: WCoH 7, exhibition match
Shutting down Secristan
Plutoni recorded a 2-0 win over Secristan in a special exhibition match between two of the tournament's all-female teams. Tiffany Cooper scored with 6:43 remaining in the second period, while Gabby Hadlors' goal came early in the third. On the other end of the ice, Marcia Augle's agility helped her to the shutout. However, while Cooper and Hadlors' appearances were due mostly to it being an exhibition game, second-string Augle had not started the game. Starting goalie Jen Brixley left with an injury halfway through the first period from a vicious slapshot from Secristani captain Ashley T. "I hadn't prepared enough for the game," Brixley later said, "and that's obviously disappointing."
Comments:
1. icebaby: "I hadn't prepared enough for the game," Brixley later said, "and that's obviously disappointing." <--reports that the injury may have had something to do with inadequate equipment have been greatly exaggerated, no?
2. onsides: at least we won
3. bocky_boy: It sounds like the SDOS would have let the game been played in Plutoni if we wanted. It wasn't. Something tells me this isn't out of a desire for sportsmanship and fair play...
4. flake: Guess the corresponding bureaucrats over here don't want to be associated with that kind of "gimmick" either, eh?

THE ROCKET REPORT
"LIKE THE WORLD BOWL"
Qazox City, Qazox- The state of the Newmanistan hockey program in comparison to the rest of the world has a familiar ring to it after Newmanistan fell to Kelssek in a hard fought defensive struggle (Mr. Smythe, we hope, noticed). The final score would be 1-0 in overtime, a goal delivered by Neville Keanes at 7:13 of the extra session. Keanes certainly will earn his stripes as a hero in Kelssek lore after his great performance in game two, and then getting this game winner here tonight. Craig Sanders made 44 saves in the loss.
If it seems like we've seen this story before, it's because we have. Like the World Bowl, Newmanistan showed it has the ability to compete with the top teams in the world, and is considered by most accounts to be a quality team. However, when it comes to playing the elite teams, such as a Kelssek, they just aren't quite at that level as we saw in this series. And so, the Frozen World Cup comes to a conclusion for us. After seeing Kelssek in the last three games, we feel they are going to be very hard to beat and wish them the best.

"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Two instant classics, both of which will be re-broadcast on QSPNClassic tommorrow, saw Kelssek and Taeshan advance in in Game 3, and both went to OT. Norris, Did Newmanistan's defense finally impress you?"
Smythe:
"As much as I hate to admit it, yes. In Game 3 they were clearly out-hustled, out-powered and out-finessed, but they still managed to force Overtime. But they just couldn't keep it up. I think they will be a team to reckon with at the next World Cup of Hockey."
Wales:
"Now the important questions, the semifinals see Qazox vs. Taeshan. Seems that these two nations keep meeting in the semifinals or finals of every event other than the World Cup. And Qazox usually wins, so does the streak continue Patrick?"
Campbell:
"Yes, but it will go 3 games. Taeshan is probably the 3rd best team in the tourney, and if this were held in any other country, i'd give them more than a fair shot to win the series, but Qazox will feed off the Home crowd."
Wales:
"As for the other semifinal, we see Kelssek and Valanora, the two best team not to have won a Hockey title. Who win that series, Norris?"
Smythe:
"Valanora. They just have an offense that plays the full 200 ft × 98.5 ft of ice and just doesn't stop. I think if they win this series, they have the best chance to defeat Qazox."
Wales:
That's all for tonight, folks. See you tommorrow night for Game 1 of the Semifinals vs Taeshan from the SaxerDome in SaxerVilla."
"Over the line they go but that's scooped up by Calderwood who sends it back into the neutral zone. 13 minutes to go in the first overtime period ; we've played 67 minutes of hockey and still no goals. Plenty of action though and Oberforsky gets hit by Marchese!"
"Good hit there, nothing wrong with that. Solid defense by Newmanistan, all game they've been able to stifle the attack from Kelssek."
"Into the offensive zone now it's Crawford on the left. He takes a shot... and that gets tangled up in- SCORE!!! NEVILLE KEANES TIPS IT IN AND KELSSEK ARE INTO THE SEMI-FINALS!..."
"What a tournament this guy is having, what a leader, what a class act... Neville Keanes puts Kelssek into the final four!"

Game One of the Semifinals as Qazox took on Taeshan. a 4-3 win, and as most everyone expected, it was a very physical game, with each team getting 8 penalties. Norris, can Qazox withstand another game like Game 1, in Game 2 and win?"
Smythe:
" I don't think they can. Taeshan came out hitting and hitting and hitting and that through off this very offensively oriented team. The only positive that came from this was that the Pheonix had 3 powerplay goals, but they also allowed 2 powerplay goals. I think this will go to a Game 3."
Campbell:
"I agree with Norris. Qazox cannot afford to play a physical game, as this team is built on speed and passing. If Taeshan plays like this tommorrow and Thursday, then Qazox might not advance."

"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Game 2 and Qazox expected a physical game from Taeshan, but instead, found themselves facing a rather unusual 2-3 formation, (3 defensemen instead of 2), and Qazox held to only 19 shots in the game, was shutout for the first time since Game 2 of World Cup of Hockey 6, by the same 1-0 score, in Overtime. Patrick, What trick will Taeshan pull out of its collective hat for game 3?"
Campbell:
"First off they played an in-our-face, smash-them-up style in Game 1 and then a stay back-defend style in Game 2. To be honest, I have no idea what Taeshan will do, but Oscar Maresca needs to figure it out quick, or else Taeshan will advance."
Smythe:
"I think the Pheonix are in trouble. Taeshan has gotten into their heads and that is a very bad thing. Qazox needs to get an early lead and don't take stupid penalties and just play like they usually play. Make Taeshan adjust to you, not the other way around."

Doing it the hard way
Kelssek are doing it the hard way again, clawing back in the third period from a one-goal deficit to level their semifinal series against Valanora. Gary Bavarillo and Severin Jeanne each scored to keep Kelssek's World Cup hopes alive after Valanora took the lead in the second period through Amras Ancalímon.
It wasn't for lack of trying that the first period finished scoreless, with both teams each pinging the puck on the post and a scary moment which saw Kelssek goalie John Baron race out of his crease to thwart Angrod Liunë as Liunë looked clear on a breakaway. While the coaching staff surely suffered collective arrythmia, Baron sprinted from his goal and dove at Liunë, taking both puck and man with him.
But there wasn't much Baron could do about Valanora's first goal with Josh Mulroney in the penalty box as Amras Ancalímon deflected an otherwise harmless wrist shot into the goal. Despite outshooting Valanora in the second period Kelssek got no luck and no goals and went into the second intermission down 1-0.
The third period opened with a scrambling, frantic time in the goalmouth area as Valanora goalie Arminas Carnesîr lost sight of the puck while Bavarillo found it and tipped it over the pads to tie the game just 52 seconds in.
Sensing the momentum behind them the Kelssek team began to push for the go-ahead goal and earned it through sheer guts and hard work. Clever passing and good shots resulted and it seemed just inevitable that one would find its way into the net - and one did. And it was Severin Jeanne taking a pass from Bavarillo and crashing towards the net. Cutting in front, he skated across the slot and wristed the puck home.
It was a victory that Kelssek earned and once again they will hope to carry the momentum into the critical game. However, there's still plenty to chew over as Valanora managed to shut down the top line of Neville Keanes, Laurent Oberforsky and Sydney Crawford throughout the contest, and a solution to the way they have managed to stifle the production of Kelssek's top line will be crucial in the deciding third game.
Coach: So we've come up with a new strategy to win the game agAINST qAZOX TOMORROW. The 2-3"
A day later
Coach: Know today were gonna go a whole new way. Ashton, Colby, Eli, and Nadin will all attack, and Smitty will dfend. Know get your purples on.

"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Game 3, and Taeshan came out in a 4-1 formation. and scored two quick goals to have a 2-0 lead, just 8 minutes into the game and Qazox looked like they were going home, so to speak. But Qazox rallied in the 2nd period, with 2 goals just 58 seconds apart and after a phsyical, scoreless 3rd period; the game wentto OT. A Taeshan penalty occured early in the OT, and Qazox took quick advantage, scoring the series winner on John Hardin's first goal, just 15 seconds into the Power Play on the only shot of the period. Qazox will now face Valanora in the finals. Norris, is Valanora the team to end Qazox's run?"
Smythe:
"I don't think they are. Everything Valanora does, Qazox does just a bit better, This will be a good series, no doubt, but Qazox will keep the trophy here, winning in 4."
Campbell:
"I think that Valanora could win. As Taeshan showed, Qazox is vunerable to unusual formations and physical play, and Valanora is a bit more physical than the Pheonix. Valanora takes home the trophy in 5."

"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Game 1 of the finals, and Valanora strikes first and wins 2-0. Qazox looked tired out there. Did the Taeshan series take too much out of the Phoenix, or is valanora that good, Patrick?"
Campbell:
"Valanora is that good. They have been one of, if not the best team so far this tourney and they've looked better than Qazox has. As I said, Valanora will win this series."
Smythe:
"Your barking up the wrong tree, there Patrick. Qazox clearly had the tougher row to hoe to get to this final and it caught up with them in Game 1. But this team has been here before and they'll come back in game 2 and stomp Valanora."
Wales:
"Starting tommorrow, it's Taeshan v. Kelssek for 3rd place, so who wins, and why?"
Smythe:
"Taeshan. They pushed Qazox to the limit in all 3 games of the semifinals and Kelssek is overrated, taeshan will sweep."
Campbell:
"I agree with you, but for a different reason, Kelssek plays a similar style as Qazox, and that plays into Taeshan's hands, Taeshan in a sweep."

"I'm Adam Wales, and joining me tonight, as usual, are Patrick Campbell and Norris Smythe. Game 2 of the Finals and in a stunning move, Oscar Maresca took out Jaques Maaten and had James Huett start in net. The move worked at first, as Huett stymied the Valanora offense stopping the first 11 shots he faced. But 2 3rd period goals sent it into OT, where Qazox won on a goal by Leon Soltero with just over 2 minutes left. So the series is now tied at 1-all. Was the insertion of Huett as good idea or not, Norris?"
Smythe:
"I think so. Maaten, though having a GAA under 2 so far, needed a break, starting all of Qazox' 10 games to this point. He needed a break and Qazox' offense early on looked unstoppable, but Huett's inactivity showed in the last 2 periods, but he did well in the OT, stopping all 7 shots he faced int he extra period."
Campbell:
"It was needed, about 3 games ago. Maaten was ridden a bit too long and it showed in Game 1. But Maresca will probably start him tommorrow night for Game 3. And as I've said all tourney long, Qazox needs to get an early lead."
