2008 Boringastan Presidential Elections

Now that President Joseph Jefferson's term will end in January 2009, there will be a Presidential Election. There are three people to choose from.

Social Democratic-Labor Party
Sen. Trent Michaels (Florington)
Age: 45
Current position: Senator from Florington
Running mate: Mayor-Governor Sarah Johnson (Glasgow)
Bio: Sen. Michaels comes from a dynasty of Florington politics. His father was once the Mayor-Governor of Florington (Florington is an independent city, and functions like a state). As Senator for Florington, he is major leader of the "Third Way" movement in the SD-Labor Party that advocates more for free markets and more fiscally moderate positons unlike the party's past platform on trade.
Issues
Supports Abortion Rights
Free Trade over Fair Trade, but with some regulation
Keep same-sex marriage legal
Free education from Pre-School to College
Increase funding for military
Increase taxes on rich, and some tax cuts for poor
Increase alternative energy funding, regulate carbon emissions
Increase Social Security funding
Increase border security, guest worker programs
Legalize prostitution(through licensed brothels and street workers)
Legalize marijuana, but no hard drugs


National Union Party
Gov. Hans Schultz (Saxony)
Age: 58
Current position:Governor of Saxony
Running mate: Senator David Sherwin (Brighton)
Bio: Schultz is the governor of the Western Boringastani state of Saxony (Boringastan is trilingual with English being spoken in the Northeast and North Central, French in the South, and the German speaking in the Northwest). He advocated for many reforms in Saxony which included lower taxes and having one of the most socially conservative laws in the nation such as banning abortions except in rape or incest. While highly popular in Saxony, some Boringastanis are turned off by some of his extreme right-wing ideas.
Issues
Abortion must be illegal, no exceptions
Free Trade over fair trade
Ban same-sex marriage, no domestic benefits for same-sex couples, sodomy illegal
Eliminate Medicare funding
Eliminate education funding
Increase funding for military
Decrease taxes substancially for everyone
No funding for alt. energy sources, no carbon emission regulation
Privatize social security
Close borders to all immigration
Make prostitution illegal, ban pornography
Make all drugs illegal


Democratic Party
Rep. Pierre Lambert (La Salle)
Age:49
Current position: Representative in Boringastani House from La Salle
Running mate: Senator Klaus Schmidt (Dresden)
Bio: Pierre Lambert is the Representative from the State of La Salle. Not much is known about him however, he was a write-in in the St. Louis representative elections and won 51% percent of the vote. He is known for working with both of the major parties (SDP-Labor and National Union) and has co-authored various bills with Representatives from both parties in Congress.
Issues
Supports abortion rights, but only until the 2nd trimester
Free Trade over fair trade
Keep same-sex marriage legal
Keep Medicare funding where it is
Eliminate free college education, but keep elementary and high school free
Increase military funding
Decrease taxes at 10%
Give tax incentives to alt. energy sources and lowering emissions
Gradually privatize Social Security
Allow illegal immigrants to come on in
Legalize prostitution (no gov't regulation)
Legalize all drugs (OOC:Yes, even crack)
