Would anyone be interested in reviving the Cricket World Cup, and participating in the ninth one? (The eighth happened in Schiavonia, more than a year ago.)

If we can get 6 or more teams interested in playing, I think it would be worth reviving. If no one else wants to, I would be willing to 'host' it, and do the score generation on World Cup Cricket (a shareware program). If anyone else wants to, though, that's fine too. If we can't get six teams, it's clearly not worth doing. (If anyone wants to do an individual series, or a three-way or something, then we'd be eager to do that anyway.)

You don't have to know anything about cricket to take part.

Sign me up. And perhaps if you sent a TG to every nation that participated in the last one if they still exist might also boost numbers.

I've only played cricket a couple of times in my backyard with three players a team or so, so I don't know that many rules (I live in America). However, I'd be willing to participate.

Well, yay! Thanks everyone for expressing interest. 6 was a fairly arbitrary minimum threshold, so I'll leave this open another couple of days for any other nations that might be interested.

To keep it simple and (hopefully) prevent people getting bored, I propose keeping the format simple: all you have to do to compete is to post the names of your players. More sophisticated details are optional.

The team must have 11 players, as follows:
- 4-7 batters
- 1 wicket keeper [a bit like a baseball catcher]
- 3-5 bowlers
- 0-2 all rounders [people good at bowling and batting]

The only restriction (aside from only having 11 players) is that 5 of your players must be able to bowl (i.e. bowlers + all rounders > 5).

That's all you have to do. If it's still confusing, ask, and we can decide what to do to make it easier.

If you want, you can post more sophisticated stuff, for example specifying the action of your bowlers (fast, spin, swing), who your captain is, etc.
