World Bowl 3 Bid : Arroza
(No one else decided to run gainst me.)
http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/3364/worldbowl3sw7.jpg

The Nations: Arroza, a warm semi-tropical island nation somewhere in the southern end of Atlantic Oceania. The country is made of two uninspiringly named islands, North Island, and South Island. The two islands are linked via road and rail bridges at Atalanta – Northland and at Port Wentworth. The residents are a mix of Caucasian and African, with Latins as well on the Southern island. Arroza is very liberal concerning crime, and does not have capital punishment. Serious crimes are dealt with via banishment. All the games will be held at or near the capital city of Atalanta, but tourists are welcomed to travel the country, especially the quiet beaches of the Secluded Coast, or the Casinos of Huracan and Evangeline Provinces.

The User Behind the Nation: No international hosting history. Top 4 finisher in both previous World Bowls. Runs what is probably one of the 2 most renowned domestic American Football leagues. Currently in school, so you will get updates at night. Semi-chronic procrastinator, but good with deadlines. On Central Standard time.

The Technical Stuff:

Format ~ Would involve a simple group-stage-then-knock-out-rounds system, involving as many teams as appears appropriate (I want 12 playoff teams like the NFL Playoffs, but will only do so it we get 24+ teams in the tournament.) All nations who sign up in the sign-up thread will be formally invited, and damn what it does to the group stage. No special effort would be undertaken to ensure a large tournament, and if only a handful of nations (ie, less than sixteen-or-so) accept the call we would endeavor to create fewer but larger groups.

Scorination ~ NSFS 2.0.7. Modifiers open to integers between -5 and +5. Double Scorination, with the first scorination being used to represent the number of touchdowns (6 points). Extra points will be determined based on your stated conversion style, and will be randomated as such:
Extra Points: 96% (Arroza is a windy country)
2 Point Conversion: 35(+ your modifier) % (i.e. a +4 team has a 39% chance)
The second scorination will be for the amount of field goals (3 points). These will be added together for a score, which you can RP in any way possible.

RP Bonus ~ Cumulative RP bonus sheet will be adapted for the World Bowl.

Note: More facts/rules can be added at my convenience.

The Kamchatka Grizzly Bears (KGB) of Myedvedeya would be honored to participate in the World Bowl.

We are new to international sport, so please tell us, does the RP thread come later, or should rosters and such be listed on this thread?

I'm not Arroza but I was the host of the first two World Bowls. ;)
First off, thanks for your interest and good luck. This thread is just for signups. Within a few days, Arroza will probably create the thread for RP/rosters and everything else, so be on the lookout. Signups go until the 8th, so maybe around the 1st of the month he'll put up the thread.

Thank you very much for your help, and one more question. What exactly constitues RPing. I just read the thread from the previous International basketball championship, and it seems like things like writing news pieces and such about previous results. Am I correct about this (A), and what exactly is the effect of RPing on results(B)?

thank you again, and good luck to you as well.

Well, I may not have hosted the World Bowl, but I've been in them both and I've done enough sports competitions to answer some of that question.

A) RPs can really be any kind of creative writing involving something that's relevant. Match reports are popular as it adds more depth to the games, but many others also like to do short stories about their team/players, background information on their nation or, even in some cases, haikus.

If you want to get a good idea of what kind of RPs are being done, then look no further than the latest World Cup RP thread: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=562619

And also something which may be helpful, the last World Bowl RP thread: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=561005

As for question B, well, I have a rough idea what roleplaying does (I think it increases your chance of winning slightly), but don't quote me on that. I'll leave that question to the host/past host.

What I do know is, however, roleplaying works. I came into the last World Bowl ranked 7th, roleplayed my socks off, and ended up winning the damned thing.

Anyway, it's nice to have a new face join us. The World Bowl is probably one of the newer sports competitions on NS, so it's nice to see it's following increase bit by bit. I hope you have fun here, bud.

Got a semi-serious question here for the World Bowl peoples:

NSwiki or Wikistates for the Wikifing of the first 2 WB's? (and yes Wikify is a word, just as sonn as I bribe those dictonary people enough money, remember QAZOX said it first... lol j/k)

I could do it in either one, just wanna know if there's a preference.

It doesn't really matter to me, but it would probably be best on the one which will has more of the tournaments.

Sorry, it was Newmanistanian slang for "which has more of the tournaments", like if one has the WBC, WCoH, TDQ and the other doesn't, then the World Bowl is best on that one. If they both have all of them, then it doesn't really matter.

RP/Scores thread comes later, probably will be posted aroung the 2nd/3rd.

As far as the Historical World Bowl I and II threads, let me know if you put it on Wikistates, so I can transfer over the World Bowl 3 thread. Hopefully Gustav won't affect anything this far inland, so we should still be on schedule.

I'd say NSwiki, because the problem was that the host, Goobergunchia, couldn't get a server after NSwiki grew so much. However, he got a server, and a shiny new domain name: http://www.nswiki.net

NSwiki is the classics.

LAST BUMP.

If I don't get anymore entrants by 23:59 CST Friday night, I'm shutting it down a day early and going on with an easy to draw 18.

You want pre-friendlies? Cool, either telegraph me or get them in the mail to: ns.arroza@gmail.com If we get no more entrants, then I'll run the friendlies on Saturday, otherwise Sunday right after the draw gets posted.
