The schedule for the AIDBCA World Tour IV has been made and is posted at http://wikistates.outwardhosting.com/wiki/AIDBCA_World_Tour_IV_Schedule
Notable matchups include September 2 at Bluth Corporation's Meerschaum Memorial Stadium, where tour powerhouses and former champions Haydensky, Brigadiers, and The Fadron Gang all compete head-to-head for the only time. Assuming they continue with their tradition of strong showings, this down-the-stretch competition could have considerable implications heading into Quarterfinals.
With 14 corps, the top 12 corps by medal count after ten tour nights will make Quarterfinals, the top 9 from Quarterfinals will make Semifinals, and the top 6 from Semifinals will make Finals.

The first World Tour performance of the Royal Officer Corps of King William V produced unexpected results. Drum Major Alexander Warwick was mildly disappointed with the ratings his corps received, but Lord Alvise, who had travelled with the corps, was absolutely livid.
“Did you think,” said Drum Major Warwick to him, “that, just because your name was associated with this performance, the judges would award us winning scores? Your music is better than that of any other corps, but we did not perform it as well as we should have.”
Lord Alvise did not appear to care for what Warwick had said. “Those ratings are absolutely insulting. Do they not realize that I am the most brilliant composer on Earth? His Majesty had suggested that we use bribes, although I believed myself to be above such tactics. I did not know, however, that our adjudicators would be of the basest sort.”
“We will surely emerge victorious on the next day of contest,” assured Warwick. “You ought spend a few days at your manor and then come aid us again. As far as my part is concerned, I shall deal out additional lashings to those who I believe cost us victory tonight.”

A silver medal for Gridlockers on home turf, or in this case the fresh grass of Tarang County Field, opens the fourth tour. The handful of pundits in Zwangzug who actually know what's going on applaud the diverse range of past champions, and hopes are high with more new corps and countries this year.
Of course, Gridlockers still march like it is neither turf nor grass nor vaguely inspiring countryside but rather plain old streets-which was very entertaining in the parts where it switched from four/four to three/four and back again-but the bugles made up for it, and the sideline percussion took the caption award. Haydensky's bizarre pirate routine meanwhile finishes smack-dab in the middle of the pack.
Fractals, meanwhile, make their debut on the world stage in Taeshan. Sixth place nearly represented a moral victory when you consider it was the home corps in seventh. The bugles were the pick of this performance, especially the middle piece, where melody and countermelody fused together at a brisk pace.

The Brigadiers were thrilled with their win to open World Tour IV, but remained wary of a repeat of last year, where declining scores on two consecutive nights pushed them to the bottom of the standings, requiring a surge of epic proportions to get them back to second place by the end. Director Darrin Lasley, remembering last year's early-season disaster, remarked, "You know, it says a lot about how tough and how close the corps is to come back after a setback like that--especially after winning the championship the year before--to finish second by the end. It really is a testament to the kind of people we have here in the Brigadiers. Still, we'd rather start off strong and stay that way than slip behind and have to catch up." Drum major Marcus Swan agreed, and added, "I don't think [falling behind] will be a problem, either. We're an older and more experienced corps than last year, and in the captions we tend to dominate we're way more dominant than we have ever been before. We'll be fine, and we're in good shape to win our second World Tour Championship."
Legion of the Red Shield, a crowd favorite on its third World Tour appearance, also seemed in good spirits despite a third-place finish. They absolutely dominated the Battery Percussion caption, and managed to win the Auxiliary caption as well. The Bugles scores were off as the baritone soloist in Sunrise, Sunset fracked a few of the first-ledger A's (ooc note: Bluth Corporation's corps are all REAL drum & bugle corps, meaning we use G bugles written in transposed treble clef) and the entire lower half of the ensemble seemed to be having some tone quality issues. "We've got some exercises to fix that in sectionals," said contra music tech Lauren Wildt. "We'll have them sprint about 300 yards and then play a good middle-register note at a pianissimo...it does wonders for developing good tone control. It won't fix it overnight, but certainly by the end of the tour...watch out!"
Meanwhile, Lasersound was a bit dejected by its last-place finish at Tarang County Field. Newcomers to the World Tour, they didn't exactly expect to sweep every caption, but they still thought they were better than fellow newcomers Last Minute and The Silver Knights. Skylar Model told the corps after the show, "This should come as a reality check for us. Most first-time World Tour corps don't get to return the next year; they have to come back two or three years later before they can really establish themselves. The fact is, in order to be able to return to the World Tour next year, we're going to have to beat at least one of the big powerhouses from our country. We're only four points behind Legion, ladies and gentlemen--that is a totally makeable gap." The corps also took solace in the fact that it placed third in bugles, and was a very real contender to win some caption awards during the World Tour.

After just squeezing by into third place in their third competition and absolutely sneaking into second in their second (by a margin of about a tenth) the Ghost Sword Regiment was feel quite proud yet amazingly nervous about their position. Though they had won the GDCA this past year that did not give them much confidence on the international stage. Their director, George Luis Ruiz Crichton stood to address the Corps:
"Gentlemen, good job in the first two performances. This being our first year on the World Tour it is to be praised that we won medals in our first two competitions. Well done. Give yourselves a round of applause."
The mood instantly became jovial around the practice field with some members even beginning to sing the national anthem.
"FREEZE!", the pitch turned silent as their hard ass assistant conductor stepped forward.
"What Mr. Crichton meant to say was not dance around like a bunch of idiots and lose focus. We are FAR from finishing this season and FAR from our goal of making the Finals. Stay focused."
The Regiment knew what they had to fix. First of all they had to add some type of spark into the auxilary. Knowing that a significant risk was involved, more throws were added into the guard's show, adding flare and hopefully hyping up the performance more. Though it was unorthodox, half of the closer was reset and new drill was added to give more sharp lines and snappy movements that would be sure to catch the eye of the audience and more importantly the judges. It may not pay off immediately (learning the new material would force some manner of tiredness upon the menbers) the staff knew that it would be for the best by the end of the series.

Extensive preparations were made for the only show that would be hosted in the Dominion. Extra stands were added to the Royal Stadium of King William IV to increase its capacity to over 25,000. The region around Caen was notorious for violence at sporting events, and security was extra tight for this one. Over one hundred weapons, including twelve personal firearms, were confiscated from attendees. Fortunately, the show passed without incident. No major brawls erupted in the stands, and there were no fatalities in the stadium’s immediate vicinity.
The fans had been expecting a typical sports game, such as football or hockey. They were perplexed when all they saw was what seemed to be military bands, but most were too drunk to care. Most spectators were not aware that this was an international competition. For all they knew, Zwanzug or Gernish were just distant cantons of the Dominion. Overall, there was not a whole lot of jeering and booing at the guest corps.
The King himself could not make it to the performance, but he later viewed it in his Royal Moving Picture Theatre. “And my marchers won gold, you say?” asked he after his screening.
“Yes, my liege,” confirmed Lord Alvise. “We won all five captions by over twenty points.”
“As we should have. It would have been robbery had it been any other way. I am sure that our performers were leagues above the others.”
“Of course, my liege. Warwick has done an outstanding job in refining their performance.”
“But I want to ask you about something.”
“What is it, my liege?”
“Before our men took to the field, I caught a glimpse of their competition, and I noticed that they had replaced some of their marchers with some women.”
“No, my liege, they are also members of the other corps, as strange as it may seem.”
“You surely jest? The fairer of sexes possesses only a beautiful voice and a grace on the piano. Do they not have enough adequate male performers in their country?”
“I do not believe that to be the case, my liege, but I know not why.”
During this whole exchange, Drum Major Warwick, who had not been explicitly allowed an audience with the King, sat in the back of the theatre watching the performance again and refining his list of who would have a meeting with the cat o' nine tails come the next rehearsal. He noticed that the marching had been particularly sloppy and lines were not always clear. Fortunately, he finally had acquired the proper length of a “yard” as it was used on these football fields, and he now knew how to convert these measurements to Cotenshirick Standard Yards. The Corps would now have a proper field on which to rehearse.

National Champions, falling short
By DONALD ALBRIGHT, Associated Press Writer
July 5th, 2008 19:21 Local Time
Sarleneska (AP)- The current National Champions, the Silver Knights, fell just short of medaling on the international stage, against several favorites for the International Championships this year. They placed fourth overall, with no caption wins at the competition, and fifth opening with a caption win in overall marching. These eight-time domestic circuit champions, and the dominate force of Alliance Star's Drum And Bugle Corps, are fighting to stand a chance in possible placement further down the calendar.
"You KNOW you're better than that. You've marched and played too long, to make stupid mistakes like that. So, now, we're going to play it, AGAIN in this parking lot, until you get it right!" Shouted Executive Director Thomas Ivey, after their competition in a grocery store parking lot near the stadium. The Corps members, tired and exhausted, played and marked time throughout segments of the show, until they finally got it right. The Drum Major continued to rehearse the Corps, as the Director gave a few words.
"I have talented young men and women in my Corps, without a doubt. This IS the best Corps, and we're going to prove it. Just wait. We're going to walk away from Finals with Gold around our neck, and show the world that the Silver Knights are those worthy of respect," stated Thomas Ivey, the Executive Director.
Earlier that night, the Corps show was all but familiar to those in the Alliance Star Confederation. If it was butterflies, anxiety, or fear, the Corps started the season out of their usual candor, as they walked away with scores in the high fifties, a record low. The Corps struggled as they pulled off moderate precision and technique, whereas their musicality and mesh of Upper and Lower horns plagued the Silver Knights, like it had its rival domestic Corps, Blue Wave, in their tour. The Color Guard and the Percussion lines also had issues, as those were addressed by their section leaders and their specific director, including tempo and accuracy of catches.
For overall show performance, the only parts that were acceptable by their Corps standards was the opening and closing cadences by their Drumline. As stated by a Judge at the show in Sarleneska, "Their Opener was a disaster as the Drum Major and the rest of the Corps had their own tempos, as for the second movement, musicality went out the window, followed by the closer which displayed the Corps inability to even pretend to be a Drum Corps."
Indeed, if the Silver Knights want to maintain their momentum, as the best, they need to make radical changes, before they lose their chance.

The Brigadiers, Bluth Corporation's flagship corps, were disappointed with the slight improvement in scores from the first competition night. The performance looked to be an utter disaster from the start--the contras came in way too loud on the opening of the delicate Ballet Suite, causing the mellophones to overblow and shoot way sharp on their entrance in an attempt to compensate. Still, everything settled down and went rather smoothly, until in the middle of the Piano Concerto three flagpoless slammed right down against contra bells during a tight pass-through. The contra players weren't fazed, but the auxiliary was and didn't recover totally until midway through the next piece. "We need to spend some time working on the poise of our girls," said Auxiliary caption head Regina Stewart. "Obviously, they need to learn how to recover from mistakes." Marching & Maneuvering caption head Mike Taylor added, "Yeah, and we need to...rehearse...that form a bit more, too, obviously."
The Legion of the Red Shield, on the other hand, was quite exuberant after posting their first win of the World Tour, beating arch-rival Brigadiers in the process. The baritone soloist was way more secure in his upper register; however, Bugles scores were down regardless, largely due to the same tone-quality issues that had bugged them at the earlier contest. Still, the Legion is a corps that rides on the strength of its Auxiliary, and they were on fire with scores in the mid-70's.
Lasersound, meanwhile, continued with another last-place finish. However, their auxiliary ended up third overall (though well behind caption-winner Legion of the Red Shield), which was heartening. "Yeah, we're new to the tour and we're not terribly competitive," noted corps director Skylar Model, "but it's good to know that we can keep up with the big boys in a few areas--it lets us know that we're not just falling flat on our face across the board." She promised the corps a free day when they win their first caption award. Soprano player Billy Finkel liked that idea--"Skylar takes care of us...we work hard for her, and she works hard for us. We don't have the talent that some other corps do, but we've certainly got the bond."

International Drum Corps, comes home
By CHRISTINA MILLER, Associated Press Writer
July 17th, 2008 21:44 Local Time
New Liberty, F.D.; Alliance Star Confederation (AP)- It was a great evening in the city of New Liberty, as the Alliance Star Confederation hosted its first AIDBCA Venue. Nearby streets were shut down, as the Capitol Police diverted all non-attending traffic away, including three Senators whom where on their way to the Capitol. The large Bowl was at full capacity, as all 81,000 seats were sold, and most therein filled to see all the Corps from other nations preform. The energy and the intensity were felt from the exhibition corps, whom participated in the recent AIDBCA tour, Blue Wave.
The Corps preformed extremely well, but was not judged or scored as they played music from the collection of Phil Collins as the opening Corps, to get the night started, after the nation's national anthem. The Energy was uncontrollable, as Brigadiers and the Fadron Gang were crowd favorites, as standing ovations were presented for the Fadron Gang at the end of their performance.
With the end of the competition, the awards were presented by the Director of the local Drum and Bugle Corps President, along with a member of the AIDBCA staff, presenting medals to Brigadiers, Legion of the Red Shield, and Fadron Gang, earning Bronze, Silver, and Gold respectively. The night came to a close with the Alliance Star Confederation Marine Drum and Bugle Corps ending the night with a 'Retreat' Ballad, with a bit of sporting between a few Percussion Lines.

Silver Knights Medals Internationally
By CALEB PRASS, Associated Press Writer
July 17th, 2008 23:02 Local Time
Bluth Corporation - Solzhenitsyn Field (AP)- The tone at the Bus Loop at the Solzhenitsyn Field was quiet as the Executive Director had the entire Corps surround him, as he held the manila folder with the score charts listing specific caption scores and a DVD of their show that night. He opened his cell phone, as it displayed the scores of the show at New Liberty and then nodded and closed it.
"Congratulations. Ladies and Gentlemen, you have won seventh place." The Corps stood silent, all eyes on the Director, as he jumped on a bench on gain some leverage. "Seventh Place." He stated again, as the Drum Major held the trophy of the Third Place to his side, as the Director nodded, and then sighed as he looked down at the ground and then back up. "We made an average of a five point increase. Nice job. Now, next show," he paused, "Seven. Seven Points." He nodded, as he looked over the Corps, "WHO ARE WE?!?" he shouted as a united, shouted reply, "KNIGHTS!"
The Drum Major would take the place of the Executive Director, as he stepped away and made his way to make a few comments. As he began speaking, the corps began to replay the show in segments. "We made an improvement. Hopefully, this time around, we'll continue to medal and be competitive in the AIDBCA. We are a group devoted to show that the Silver Knights are indeed one of the best, if not the best Drum Corps. Other Corps are going to start seeing our strength, and soon they'll start measuring us up. We're just getting started." He gave a brief smile, as he then stepped away and boarded one of the buses.
The show itself was a major improvement. Timing was synchronized within the Corps, whereas the Auxiliary and the Percussion lines were making fewer and fewer errors, although, a Bass Player broke a mallet during the Indiana Jones closer. The Mellophone duet during "He's a Pirate" was off, but improving, as well as the Line's Finale as there were no mis-steps, and little sticking. Overall, captions improved, whereas there was much room for improvement musically and individually.
Finishing ahead of the Silver Knights in the Venue were The Ghost Sword Regiment taking Silver and a Caption, and Haydensky taking Gold and a few Overall Captions as well.
The Silver Knights make their next stop in Sarleneska, yet again, to attempt in not only score, but overall medal count.

OOC: wrong title for the Bartok piece, it should be Romanian Folk Dances. Whatever.
Simultaneous bronze medals for Gridlockers and Haydensky in the July show, the former led by the auxiliary. The pastoral countryside-colored flags were nice touches, though the rifles on the bear dance thing might have been pushing it a little. The judges must have liked it, though, as it was enough for the caption award. Surprisingly enough, it were Fractals that got one in the other competition, this in Marching and Maneuvering. Which maybe isn't that big of a surprise, upon reflection. "We're proud of this award, but not satisfied," announces the conductor. "There's a long way to go." Nevertheless, success for 102d fans, most of whom are quietly amazed their city had so much musical talent. Zwangzug's first gold medal of the competition came to Haydensky in a dominant performance, as they "swept" both nonmusical caption awards.

"Folks, tonight we learned that it doesn't matter how much you improve if you don't execute. The judges don't see the run-throughs at our housing site; they just see the performance at the stadium." Those were the Brigadiers corps director Darrin Lasley's words to his corps after a disappointing third-place finish in Alliance Star. That the corps had improved drastically from the last performance was undeniable--percussion and auxiliary scores were way up--but despite the improvement, they had an off night with their hornline and all-around marching, dropping a corps that, had it performed to expectations, was finally good enough to beat current tour leader The Fadron Gang to third place behind home country rival Legion of the Red Shield. Forms were dirty, technique was sloppy, and dynamics were atrocious. "Guys, you played way better than this in our last run-through," proclaimed Bugle caption head Ricardo Lucian, "but it doesn't mean a thing if you can't do it when it counts. There's no exercises we can do, nothing we can work on to make us execute what we do in rehearsal, in the stadium; we've just got to get our heads out of our butts and do it. Yeah, it's hot and humid; yeah, you're tired. Tough. So is everyone else out there. We're not going to make you run laps, or chew you out, because when you just slack off like this you're only hurting yourselves. If you're satisfied with mediocrity, so are we. We're just here to give you what you want. That's all I've got to say."
The mood was much more jubilant in the Legion's loading area, as the corps pulled to within less than a tenth of a point behind The Fadron Gang. Though it was still early, corps members were getting excited with talk of possibly medaling at Finals, if not winning outright. "Can you imagine? I mean, we've outplaced the Brigadiers at shows before, but they've always surged to beat us when it mattered," said age-out baritone Shelly Hudson. "Finally, sticking it to them and making them play catch-up to us? This might be the year! We've got the show, and we've got the talent!" added her boyfriend, age-out soprano Frank Mallows. Drum major William Berry was a bit more reserved, reminding his corps that "the Brigadiers are the masters of the late-season surge--they've done it in each of the last three tours, never finishing lower than second regardless of wherever they might start the season. I know we can beat them, but it's going to take more than hype and excitement--it's going to take discipline and accountability and honesty. I want this just as much as you all do, so let's push ourselves towards it. Don't make the staff push you--push yourselves!"
Lasersound was initially unfazed by yet another last-place finish, but that soon turned to abject disappointment once they learned of the margin: one one-hundredth of a point. "That's one tick--that's one foot a split-count late, one arc just a hair flattened, one note just a couple of cents flat or sharp. If just one of us--if just me, or anyone else--had been on his game just a hair bit more, we would have finally beaten someone! It hurts!" screamed contra George Thiesmann in anguish. Director Skylar Model tried to assuage the corps by taking a different tack: "Tonight, we learned just how important it is to execute at our highest level every time we go out. Two fewer mistakes, and we would have finally beaten someone. Let's not beat ourselves up from this--let's learn from this, and use it to push ourselves harder so it doesn't happen again! We've proven now that we're just as good as these other corps we're up against, so let's take it to them!"

"...yes it's true, if we would have been at the other competition we would have clinched second place and another medal. But we WEREN'T! So that's no excuse to get disheartened NOW. It was a good show but not excellent. The judges don't care that we may have medaled at another event. We didn't even win a caption. Everyone... you know what it means when we win nothing at an event right?"
"Sir, yes sir...," the Corps responded with mixed emotions as they began their two mile run before preparing for a backward-forward run of the show (they would run the show from end to start without music then do a full run without a break). The Corps knew that it would be another grueling two weeks ahead of them before the next show, but perhaps not winning a medal would be worth the pain. After all it had been relatively smooth sailing until this point in the international circuit, perhaps this loss could be a motivational shock.

Silver Knights falls from top three
By TRUDI STAMOS, Associated Press Writer
July 28th, 2008 20:07 Local Time
A big disappointment came from the Sirenki Field, in Sarleneska as the Silver Knights wrap up the night, without a medal. The night went well before the corps played, as they had an excellent warm-up before the show, and were bidding for the Gold that night. The Battery and the Sideline were also ready and roaring to go, after their first medal in Bluth, and the Color Guard were catching all their practice catches. The Director brought them together and gave them some words of inspiration, and a moment of silence, and would then allow them to take to the field. The Drum Major led them in as he gave them some words of wisdom, and allowed them to take the field. They played a quick Concert F Chord warm up in an arch, as they then lowered their horns as the Drum Major shouted, "Who are we?!?" The Corps replied, "KNIGHTS!"
The Corps took their position on the field, as the Drum Major took his place on the podium, and saluted them in. From there, it all began to fall apart as the Battery lost their ability to group playing, as continuous sticking and mis-strokes were persistent as well as a failure to play as a line. The horn line improved, but still had issues with the Contras tone quality as well as the Upper Sopranos going sharp the whole show. In the second movement of the show, the sideline percussion also didn't maintain the movement of the show, as well as several symbol crashes. Toward the end of the show, the Color Guard as well as throughout the show, made a big mistake as a few of the Color Guard missed their saber catch in the beginning of the Third Movement.
At the end of the show, the Corps left the field, upset knowing they didn't preform well at all, with the Hornline solely improving from their last show. Executive Director, Thomas Ivey, had the following to say right after the show, "I know they can do better, and so do they. Now is they time they learn that nothing is handed to them, and that this has to be earned." Shortly after, a Mellophone player, Stephen Thompson had the following, "We're able to start getting ourselves in shape, it's just too bad we can make those sets. We need to get the politics out of our Corps."
When the scores were announced, the Silver Knights failed to medal by tenths of a point, and missed second, by a whole point. Surprised, they took home caption scores for their Hornline, but overall, a disappointment by a matter of a few points. Overall however, the Silver Knights would have rested well in eight place in comparison to the other corps.
Overall, the Silver Knights, after making some great progress in their last show, needs to get back into the running before it's too late.

Lasersound's rehearsals since their disappointment at Solzhenitsyn Field were much more spirited and intense, as the corps took their director's advice to heart. The corps had a beautiful spring in its step as it ran back to its sets between reps during drill rehearsal, the baris and euphs were holding their horns higher (ooc: being a former eupho player myself, I know exactly what this means) during music rehearsal, and the tour buses were much more clean and pleasant-smelling (people even stopped using the john in the rear of the bus) (ooc: that was a...problem...on our tours) than ever before. The corps had finally proven to itself that they were capable of playing with the big boys, and their newfound confidence was paying off in rehearsal and everywhere else. It paid off on the field, too, as Lasersound finally began to climb its way out of the cellar with a fifth-place finish at Vanguard Stadium, its second straight performance in its home country.
The opening power chords in "Working Man" were as loud and intense as anything ever heard in Newport Beach; after the show, some of the low bugle players could be heard bragging that they had caused "structural damage" to the stadium with their sound. The sopranos came in screaming with the melody, as the mellos ripped their countermelodies. The awe continued in "A Day in the Life", as the mellos nailed their soaring feature at the end, transitioning into "Blue-Collar Man". The Styx song was a powerful example of blending not just within the hornline but into the percussion and auxiliary too, as the big guard hits were perfect complements to the power of the hornline. Finally, the battery/sideline feature in "Working for the Weekend" was absolutely golden, way better than it had ever sounded in rehearsal. By the end, Lasersound had the look and the swagger of a corps that was finally on the move in the right direction.
The mood was just as exuberant in the Legion of the Red Shield and Brigadiers, as the corps went 1-2 to hand the defending champion The Fadron Gang its first defeat of the tour. "Bluth Corporation is the world's home of drum corps," said Legion bass drummer Barry Zacharias, "and I'll be damned if a corps from friggin' Taeshan is going to be the first repeat champion in World Tour history." Brigadiers rifle Sarah McPherson echoed the sentiment: "If it's not us, let it be Legion...but anyone besides Fadron. Taeshan is like the East St. Louis of drum corps."

All three of the Zwangzug corps were in the same stadium for the only time before the final week. Friendly competition? Haydensky come in second to the Hockey Playin' Nuts, running circles around Gridlockers (almost literally, too) for the caption award in Marching and Maneuvering. Auxiliary, however, goes to the Gridlockers for the second time.
"We have a lot to illustrate," a flag-waver explains. "But we're at our best when we let the audience use their imagination."
"Excellent," retorts a snare drummer. "Can we just play the downbeats, and let the judges fill in the rest of the bar?"
The reply is believed to have been negative.

The Corps had just come off of two sixth place performances and one that landed them dead last. Warwick still had some optimism, though. “Slowly, but surely, we are getting better.”
“This is utter nonsense,” muttered Alvise.
“What? Do you mean to say we are not getting better?”
“No, no, I wasn’t talking about that. Our scores are absolute nonsense. The judges heard my music. I know they did. And yet I still get no respect from them.”
“Lord Alvise, they are not judging you, they are judging the Corps.”
“But they might as well be judging me. I have my name attached to this project. Unlike you, Warwick, I have a reputation to lose. And I will not stand for being embarrassed again. We are going to have to use bribes.”
“I thought you said you were above bribes.”
“I did, but I did not realize that the judges would be so far below them. We must use bribes. The judges have no taste in music, but I would wager that they have an acute taste for money.”
“But you must have seen that the Corps is getting better.”
“Yes. Their scores are getting higher. But that means nothing if the other scores gain two points for every one we gain.”
“Give us one more chance, Lord Alvise. I am sure that we will come through. After all, they are marching wenches out there. And have you ever heard of composers such as Béla Bartók or Coldplay?”
“Well…no.”
“I sure have not either. They are clearly simpletons, for they know only their local folk songs. I am sure we will pull ahead soon. Get rid of your bribes.”
“I do not believe you see clearly what is happening here. The judges are obviously fools. But if you want it your way, so be it.”

What was the explanation for the relatively small increase in Lasersound's score from the previous competition, and its lower ranking? "Matchups, and a bit of a rewrite of some hornline parts and auxiliary work," was director Skylar Model's answer. "It's supposed to be a tick system, but still, your score is still subconsciously affected by what the judges have already seen, with you being scored relative to that. We went right after Fractals and Last Minute--two corps that had just given surprisingly strong performances that night. That, along with the fact that our new changes, as expected, just aren't as clean yet as what the old stuff was...just goes to show you can't compare scores between shows or across several nights."
Later, at the buses, she told the corps, "Folks, don't worry about this too much. You and I and everyone else knows that in an absolute sense, it was a better performance than what we gave a couple of weeks ago at Vanguard Stadium--but then, the same is true of all of our competitors. Going up against a couple of powerhouses, and going on right after a couple of corps that were just 'on' tonight, and combine that with some still-dirty new changes, and while we were absolutely better, relative to these other corps we weren't. But we'll clean up the changes, and we'll be right back up there before it's over!"
The Legion of the Red Shield members were a bit disappointed with their scores. Sure, it was nice to break 70, but to finish second, by less than two-tenths of a point, behind...another corps from Taeshan? "It's ridiculous...just as one Taeshan corps starts to slip, another starts to surge. This shouldn't be happening!" exclaimed drum major William Berry, in a rare display of less-than-ideal leadership...which got him a bit of a talking-to afterwards from the corps director. But it wasn't that Legion was slipping--indeed, the sopranos and mellophones, usually one of the weakest parts of the corps, were especially on fire tonight--it was just that, perhaps, the Taeshan corps were just that strong.
While the Brigadiers' placement was not ideal for a corps that has never finished lower than second in the World Tour, the corps was still not freaking out. "We've been here before, folks," director Darrin Lasley reminded the corps. "We had hoped that we wouldn't have to play catch-up, but if we have to we will--we won our championship that way, and we got both our second-place finishes that way. This isn't exactly unfamiliar territory for us." The corps left the stadium with nary a hint of panic, showing the professionalism that has built the most consistent corps in World Tour history.

The Silver Knights fall from First to Third
By GREGORY WILLIS, Associated Press Writer
August 23th, 2008 00:32 Local Time
SPACEThe night in Docktown Memorial Stadium was a sad one, as the Silver Knights miss the Gold medal by a little less than two points. That night, the Corps did indeed improve from their Gold Medal show in the Fadron College Fieldhouse, from a score of 68.01, to a current score placement of 72.67 placing them currently in fourth place in that week's point's standings. The Silver Knights, closing in on a sure shot into the qualifying rounds for the Finals, are becoming more and more competitive against the rest of the Corps, and a possible candidate for the AIDBCA World Title.
SPACEAfter our press agency, missing the flight to report on the last competition, catch the Silver Knights fall from their Gold win last week, for a Bronze placement this week. In the previous, the Corps rallied together, began to find a wavelength, and then pulled it off. Winning the Caption for Marching and Maneuvering, as well as the Gold positioning themselves in the realms for the World Title that year. Three days after the show, encountering the Executive Director, Thomas Ivey, and gave a few words.
"Now we're in the game, but we're not forgetting our lessons that we've learned. We're not going to get big headed and we're going to surprise if not already have, the rest of the Corps. We're going to upset many of our expected competitors."
SPACEHowever, they did do so, showing that the Silver Knights was a top three Corps, and did deserve to stay in medaling range, and again capturing the Marching and Maneuvering caption. However, they were just outdone by a twentieth of a point by the Legion of the Red Shield, and two points by one of two Favorites, the Brigadiers. However, the Knights continue to pursue for much more, with their eye on the prize, the convented International Championship.
SPACEThe Competition went better, with only a few mistakes overall by the Silver Knights, as they warmed up well, and relaxed taking their time in the local warm-up area stretching and sipping on water. Jokes were passed, and MP3s were passed around, as Corps members were just enjoying participating on the historic tour as they mentally prepared themselves for the show coming ahead. Shortly, thereafter they buzzed the show on their mouth pieces as the percussion separated the battery and the sideline as they warmed up, playing mixed parts an hour before. The Executive Director toured the sections, as thirty minutes before the competition he had them stop, relax, and get suited up for the show.
SPACEHe guided them, along with their provisioned guide, in the direction of the ready area as they mentally provisioned their minds and replayed their movements over and over again as they looked upon the entryway into the stadium. They zipped each others jackets and battery made sure their harness was not conflicting with their jackets, and the Guard finally regrouped with the Corps, Sabers, Rifles, and Flags in hand. Energy began to grow throughout the group, as the Drum Major nodded to the Corps, as they fell silent, and waited. He stood, center to the rest, as he stated, "Who are we!?!" The Group would reply, "KNIGHTS!" as they formed into their columns and awaited the cadence to move onto the field.
SPACEThey would enter on the field, warming up briefly with Chords in Concert F, and would then follow through with getting to their first set. The Drum Major would take to the podium, and salute the Corps in, as they began their show, with the National Treasure movement. The Corps improved, with fewer errors in intonation and marching was etching closer and closer to flawless. The Color Guard also improved drastically, as well as the Battery. However, many errors were noted, most noted the Battery error, with a few mis-hits during their closing solo, and the Mellophones and Sopranos fighting for the volume during the opener, and finally the Sopranos having issues hitting the high-octave notes.
SPACEAt the end of the show, they knew they improved, also noting mistakes made during the show and the solutions to such. They grouped together, and sat in the stands watching the rival corps preform, noting the Brigadiers and would then recover for the Retreat. When their score was called, post-caption announcements, the Corps showed no signs of their disheartment, as they left the field, avoiding the other corps unlike usual. They regrouped at their buses, as their Executive Director lept onto the stairway on a bus looked outward at the gathering corps. He nodded a few times, as he sighed, slightly sweating through his blue dress shirt.
"You know you can do better. We have just a little longer, and only a few more chances. We're competing in what most call the hardest season show yet, but we must remain vigilant. We all know we're the best, and we're showing it. We're here for one thing, and one thing alone and that's the World Title. Let's take it.
Who are we?!?"
SPACEThe Corps would reply, "Knights!" before loading the buses to leave. Thomas Ivey, the Executive Director of the Silver Knights, stepped down and gave us a few words.
"We just didn't preform to our own standards. We're better than that, and we all know it. We're going to catch up, and we're going to show the world how truly special these young men and women are in these corps. We showed it last week, and you'll starting seeing it again, and again, and again, all the way until the end of these Corps. It's not only the standard I hold for them, but that they hold themselves."
SPACEThe Silver Knights preform next week at Meerschaum Memorial Stadium, in the Bluth Corporation, which is rated to be the most difficult season show, this year.

OOC: I just moved into college so I'm a bit behind on my RP... here goes the last three competitions...
IC:
11 August - This was the Regiment's second consecutive non-medal finish and the Corps was not happy about it. Though they DID manage to win the high bugles award they had not much else to show for their efforts. The opening number was rife with missed drum hits and less than stellar visuals. The middle of the show was decent enough but the ending fugue/mix of all their songs fell apart both musically and visually basically due to a lack of concentration. There would be work to do... and punishments.
23 Aug - "Dammit boys, this is just unacceptable..." the opening solist was clearly not happy with some of the rookie members of the Corps... usually they had taken some consolation in knowing that they would have at least medaled in some event but this time they would have been fourth at either place. This was not a matter of misfortune but of not taking advantage of opportunity. Again they won High Bugles but their ensemble marching at the end of the show was still less than stellar. At least the drummers were getting better, due to both their increased caring and increased physical training. The Regiment would have to pick their performance up a notch or three if they wanted to reach the semi-finals that were quickly approaching.
3 Sept. - "About time guys, we really stepped up tonight." The senior solist was at least content with the Corps once again but happy was not quite the right word. Though they still got third place in the event the Corps was becoming a real force to be reckoned with in the Bugles department. They had specifically been doing extra running and perhaps some of their success was contributed to their mandatory sectionals; pool parties every week. The directors didn't care that they were finding time to relax so long as their scores kept up. The Corps knew that it was time for their final surge to making the semis which were determined by medal count. Practices were extended by another hour and a zen meditation was added to their morning routine before the show. Nobody knew if this new tactic would actually calm the pre-show nerves that some members reported feeling due to the new international fame but it was worth a shot at this point.

The Silver Knights take home the gold
By DAVID JENTRY, Associated Press Writer
July 28th, 2008 20:07 Local Time
SPACEThe Energy levels couldn't be any higher for the Silver Knights, as they topped the competition, in what at the beginning of the season was called the "Most Contested and Difficult" show all year. Winning first, with a score of 77.55, the Silver Knights were now in overall second in the placement of current scoring, just shy of last years third place corps, the Hockey Playin' Nuts, by little less than half a point. Smiles were difficult to contain, as their trip to the Bluth Corporation is one they'll never forget, as they played their show with energy and pride, making a set note on the judges and corps alike.
"We've never felt an assurance like that before, since this tour started," stated age-out Battery member, Ryan Carmichael. "When our line came together to close the show, it just felt good to be on that field. A first in a while."
While the Corps was far from flawless, the tell of energy and excitement was hard to miss, as the entire Corps celebrated another Gold Medal, etching themselves closer to the assurance of entry into the finals. With an overall fifth place standing in medal count, the Silver Knights are all but a shoe-in for the Finals, a first for the Alliance Star Confederation.
"I got a call from my mom yesterday. She couldn't be prouder as she watched the competition as it was televised nationwide, bragging about me," Senior-Contra Lindsey Morten noted, "It's cool to make history and all, but right now, our eyes are set on one thing. An INTERNATIONAL championship. To be the best in the world, is like nothing else."
The Silver Knight show, overall, did have much work to be improved on, as they drastically improved, with larger errors fewer and further between, as musicality becoming the hardest challenges; along with accuracy with the Guard and their respective catches and tosses, and improved overall battery performance. The largest error of that night was the Sopranos missing the mark, yet again when attempting to reach a higher octave. Following that, was a few mis-catches throughout the Guard, with a saber toss of which only three of seven caught.
"We need to improve our throws, and for our home show, we won't disappoint," Color Guard Director, Amy Clemons stated, as she continued, "We've done well normally, but with the pressure of competing Internationally, and with our status as number two, we've got to watch out for those wanting our position, as well as chasing down and overcoming the Number One Corps."
Indeed, the Silver Knights are heading home to their Home Show, in the season, hosting a number of nations, including the current lead in the current standings, Hockey Playin' Nuts. Many speculate that this show will determine between the two Corps of which is Superior to the other, and gives a chance for the Silver Knights to eliminate any means of personal competition before the finals.
In an interview with the Executive Director, Thomas Ivey had the following to say, "We've come from the bottom of the pack. We've overcome every expectation, and we're now in the running for that International Championship. We've got to remember to not let our egos get the best of us, and continue to be persistent in our means of trying to get better. We're here to enjoy the moment, play some great music, and give these young men and women a memory of a lifetime. But, that doesn't mean we're coming home without the gold. Hockey Playin' Nuts, Watch out."
Indeed, the show in Porthos, Capricorn will be one show, that the Silver Knights will remember for years to come, as did the show in Meerschaum Memorial Stadium.

The Silver Knights take first, in Porthos
By CHRISTINA MILLER, Associated Press Writer
September 14th, 2008 20:07 Local Time
SPACEFor the second time in a row the Alliance Star Confederation not only took the caption for Marching and Maneuvering, but for the First Place Standing, yet again. With the competition tough, noted, the Hockey Playin' Nuts, former rivals now currently placed second to them. However, with the Brigadiers taking the lead in scores of the week, the Silver Knights were yet again on the tail of another Corps.
"Again," Thomas Ivey, the Executive Director stated, "once you take down one, another will take their place. We just have to be on the hunt, and ever vigilant. We'll continue to practice hard, work out our mistakes, and remember that we're one Corps, and not to get big headed." The Silver Knights, jumping up the score charts, continued to take Gold Medal after Gold Medal, though still in second in score overall.
The show overall had some errors in the hornline, and in the battery, as the Auxiliary showed a bit of improvement, with less catches and movements missed, with more and more sets looking cleaner as things progressed. With only two more shows to go, the Silver Knights are quickly becoming a pick for the World Championship.
((OoC: I know it's not as long as usual, but I am exhausted from work. And, still angry about the Blue Devils. c.c))

Clash of the Titans, and the winners are...The Silver Knights, of Alliance Star. Which is probably, Zwangzugian pundits' consensus has it, a good thing. Drum and Bugle Corps is seen as "the next big thing", sort of, and with these sort of growth rates champions from all over should be expected. Haydensky content themselves, or not, with the Auxiliary caption award. Meanwhile, the Polydome welcomes its home corps, and the whole stadium gets a chance to see Fractals as they're all over the field, winning the Marching caption award. Fifth place overall, though, just ahead of Gridlockers.

To the honourable Mr. Scott Stewart, Chairman of the AIDBCA,
I am Lord Giacomo Alvise, Court Composer to the Most Serene King William V. As a musical man, you are surely aware of my many magnificent operas, symphonies, etc. I am not aware of the depth of your involvement in the current Fourth World Tour, and I would hope that you have had nothing to do with it. Never in my illustrious career have I been so insulted on so many occasions as I have through my association with this competition.
There is surely something awry in the ranks of your adjudicators. Whether the reason be bribes, malice, or insanity, these fiends are by no stretch of the imagination fit for such a position. Because of their terrible villainy, my rightful reputation as the most eminent genius in the Dominion may be in danger. I have even had to make up for their crimes before the King, telling him that I received the scores I should have been awarded as to protect the life of the poor boy, Warwick.
You ought look into this scandal and terminate these heinous reptiles that call themselves judges. If you wish for your organisation to have any credibility, this is the course of action you must take.
Signed,
The Rt Hon. Giacomo Alvise, Court Composer of the Most Potent King William V

The Silver Knights, continue to hold top spot
By ALEX PILLAR, Associated Press Writer
September 26th, 2008 21:07 Local Time
SPACEThe Warm-up area was filled with energy, adrenaline, and excitement, as the Hornline began to cheer and sing the un-official corps song, "Frontline" by Pillar.
"Everybody, with your fists raised high
Let me hear your battle cry tonight
Stand beside, or step aside
We're on the frontline"
They were interrupted by their Caption Heads, as they divided the hornline into different sections, Sopranos, Mellophones, Baritones, and Contras to warm-up independently. The Battery and the Sideline practiced the closer segment together as they continued to work out imperfections to improve their score and attempt to garner that Caption for the Captions of Battery and Sideline Percussion. The Color Guard also practiced tosses of its sabers and rifles, as well as it's flag work, trying to make some improvements for the show.
Their performance would reflect this, as the Corps did fairly well, wish some dirty segments in the show, including a dropped horn, by a rookie-mellophone player during the final movement. A few missed catches, and some flare-ups in the Sopranos during an attempt at the higher octave pushes. Finally, the Battery also made some mistakes in intonation and cooperation with the Sideline Percussion, and also pushed the tempo a few times. Something, not to be overlooked. Overall, though, they did increase in all their captions, barely surpassing their competition, the Hockey Playin' Nuts by just a few tenths of a point.
"We're catching up to our competition," states Executive Director Thomas Ivey, "however, so is our competition to us. We've got to stay focused, and more determined than ever in this last regular scheduled week, where we go against the Number One in terms of Score and in Medal Count. We're more than ready to face up against the Brigadiers." After that, the Corps met up with the Imperial Guards, the last place in terms of score at the competition, as it was their home show. They asked to treat them to a meal afterwards, if not dessert, to show their gratitude for allowing them to preform. The Silver Knights would indeed talk and hangout with the members of the Imperial Guards, and the Battery's of each Corps would have a short Line competition before the Silver Knights departed for the night, and left the country for the Bluth Corporation.

Thank goodness for the end of the regular season. The Ghost Sword Regiment had started off strong but their performance had severely slipped in the past few weeks of the competition. This was probably because the normal solist had been quite ill over the past couple weeks and thus his tone quality had slipped on the opening solo. The drummers had issues playing with each other but were still at least decent. The Auxilary and Pit on the other hand had major issues and were losing ground instead of gaining it. The director gave them a reason to believe though:
"Guys, this is our first world tour and we made Quarters. That's a huge achievement. I know it's been a tough year but it's time to just HAVE FUN with it. Loosen up."
The Regiment hoped that their newfound "fun" in the season would help them to stand up to the most difficult competition that they had ever faced.
The solo would have to be perfect. The movements in the rest of the band would have to be perfect curves and the flags would have to be caught. Travel the Road would have to stay together for the first time in the season and the lines would have to lock. Simple Gifts would need more dymanic contrast and most importantly the company front at the climax would have to be perfect and frozen for the slight pause before the band launched into a mix of all three songs at an elevated tempo to finish off the show. They needed perfection, or at least close to it, to keep their dream season going.
They were ready.

Lord Alvise approached the King followed by Drum Major Alexander Warwick. After both of them bowed deferentially, Alvise presented the King with a marvelous gilded trophy. “We have won the Fourth AIDBCA World Tour,” announced he.
“Oh, good job. No, excellent job. I must say, I had my doubts that you would be able to bring home gold, Warwick, since this is our first entry into the competition. Then again, no royal organization has ever placed bellow first in any contest. I should have expected this outcome all along.”
“Thank you, my liege,” said Warwick humbly. “It has been the greatest pleasure of my life to have represented you.”
Zwangzug

Haydensky will be Zwangzug's sole representative in the semifinals after Fractals and Gridlockers exit in the quarterfinals. They did make it there, though, which is more than can be said for the Royal Officer Corps of some king or another-it's a shame Bassabook didn't wind up hosting, as it's about the only city in Zwangzug that actually liked them.
Gridlockers ran, or in their case hobbled, into "no, your other left" syndrome, but at least it's contagious enough that the ensemble Marching scores weren't humiliating. Fractals were solid but not solid enough all around. To be honest, the fans won't mind-"we've got the drums, we've almost got the bugles, and we can march". Haydensky's bugles, meanwhile, masked the drums and about everything else. If there's an automatic deduction category for "obnoxious blaring", they might have been in trouble. As it is, the semifinals await.
