Credentials

The General Secretary reported that the annual returns filed by Parshea Council of Socialist Trade Unions notifying the Committee of the outcome of elections were technically inadequate. Consequently, the Returning Officer made a determination that the Parshea Provincial Branch's committee position was still vacant, to be filled at the next Parshea Council of Socialist Trade Unions Conference.

General Business

Moved by Comrade Farrokh Nugat, Seconded by Comrade Mamood Abash
"That in light of certain information pertaining to the persistence of superstitious and counter-revolutionary religious beliefs amongst the workers and peasants, particularly in the countryside and smaller villages, a new policy of vigourous and compulsory enlightenment be adopted by the State.

A new revolution, this time not against bourgeois oppressors and tyrants, but against superstition and religious oppression, is necessary. This revolution will not be fought with the arms of the Daytan People's Army, but with the pure and perfect ideology of the Daytan Communist Workers Party, following in the unerring footsteps of the revolutionary leader and hero, Khemal Nugat, may he be remembered forever by the workers and peasants.

This cultural revolution will shine the light of science and reason and liberation into the dark shadows of occult superstition. The hold of the mullahs will be broken forever. Superstitious writings will be destroyed. All women will be freed from purdah. The dens of inequity where the workers and peasants are deceived by the screaming sheikhs will be demolished. The religion of Islam will be destroyed forever in Daytanistan and no other religion shall ever be allowed to take its place. Instead, in the fertile fields of the minds of the newly reliberated workers and peasants, the seeds of perfect ideology will be sown.

The Central Administrative Committee will notify the Supreme Daytan People's Council of this resolution and request that it act upon it."
Carried unanimously.

Moved by Comrade Mamood Abash, seconded by Comrade Amad Noosh
"That Comrade General Secretary Farrokh Nugat, the continual hope and inspiration of our Party and the nation, lead our glorious Daytan motherland out of the dark night of superstition, and into the eternal daylight of the perfect and pure ideology of his grandfather, Khemal Nugat, may he be remembered forever by the workers and peasants.

The Central Administrative Committee will notify the Supreme Daytan People's Council that it is resolved that Comrade Farrokh Nugat should personally lead the cultural revolution."
Carried unanimously.

"Whoso disbelieveth in Allah after his belief - save him who is forced thereto and whose heart is still content with the Faith - but whoso findeth ease in disbelief: On them is wrath from Allah. Theirs will be an awful doom."
Surah 16:106

A green, open-topped truck filled with soldiers rumbled towards the little mosque in the village of Vehran, in Parshea province. Despite its appearance, the truck was brand new, having been built only in the last few years. It was built to the same set of plans and specifications and with the same building processes as had first been agreed upon by the centralised economic planners in 1962 when Daytanistan first started to build its own automobiles. It was the only truck design in the country in fact, military or civilian (civilian variants were painted black instead of green and had no benches to carry troops in the back). Its motor was loud and ordinarily, even a new truck could be heard from quite some distance away. Had the intended prey of the soldiers not been inside the mosque, occupied with their prayers and their own associated noises, they could've slipped away just as small creatures could escape large but clumsy predators.

The truck pulled up outside the mosque. The religious building was the most permanent looking structure in the village, a large building of stone and clay in a village of shacks which were very humble indeed. Not very much had changed in Vehran over the past hundred years, except troops no longer arrived on horseback periodically to collect the Shah's portion of grain, goats and children. The upheaval which had followed the Straw Hat Revolution seemed very far removed from Vehran. The village had just two telephones, one television, and perhaps two dozen radios which struggled to pick up very much at all. Everybody here knew of the government in Yerbel, but frankly, it didn't seem to matter very much.

To the very few people in the village who had not answered the call to prayer, the self-deception about the far away government was now shattered by the glimpses they caught through their glass-less windows of the boots of the soldiers of the Daytan People's Army hitting the dry, yellow clay of what passed for the town's square. The troops dismounted the truck with rifles in-hand and assumed some sort of pre-planned formation around the mosque and surrounding buildings. The few onlookers whose windows had shutters now closed them, and most of the others crept back into the safety they hoped the shadows in their abodes would offer.

The unguarded doors to the mosque were abruptly flung open as the congregation was bowing down in the direction of Mecca. The eyes of the worshippers inside all turned towards the door as a dozen soldiers armed with KNB-47 assault rifles poured in. Their uniforms were unmistakably handmade - garrisons in Parshea province were still issued with hand made uniforms - but all of them were marked with the unmistakable stitched red stars of the Daytan People's Army.

"Hands behind your heads! Everybody stay down!" shouted a soldier whose particularly cruel countenance marked him as the most likely candidate to be a sergeant. He swung the rifle butt of his KNB-47 into the ribs of an elderly man who had already come to his feet for good measure. "Down dogs! Corporal, the women are in the next room, see to it!"

The second ugliest man in the detachment led six soldiers through the male half of the mosque to the back room where the women prayed. Another six soldiers entered the building by the front door, and moved through the congregation to the prayer leader, kicking men out of their way a little more than was strictly necessary.

"You!" the sergeant said, pointing to the imam. "By order of the People's Commissioner for Agriculture, Regional Soviet Oversight, Dismantlement of Organised Religion, Sports and Recreation for the Socialist Province of Parshea, you are placed under arrest for counter-revolution, dissemination of superstitious material, sedition, demagoguery, and sexual discrimination!"

"You dare come into this place and do violence!" the imam shouted back as the soldiers who had made their way through the congregation grabbed him and dragged him to the front door.

"We haven't begun to do violence yet, cleric!" the sergeant sneered.

There was a sound of hysterical screaming and shouting, and then women began to be herded out of the back room by the soldiers who had disappeared into it earlier. The male congregation now began to get to their feet again and a few made ill-advised attempts to grab weapons from the soldiers, which were answered by swift and brutal blows to the face.

"Everybody out!" the sergeant shouted.

In a few minutes the congregation, nearly the entire population of the village, knelt desegregated on the clay square outside the mosque, in the slowly setting afternoon sun. Soldiers formed a circle around them to keep them in their place as a few of their number moved through the mosque with tanks of gasoline. Only the imam was restrained, gagged with his hands tied behind his back, loaded into the back of the truck. The sergeant and a few of his goons, perhaps the best way to describe the demeanour of the soldiers, moved through the kneeling ranks of villagers, and pulled the head scarves off the women. A few of the men protested at this, but were silenced by vicious kicks to the stomach, and if they continued, boots to the head. None of the women protested - most were simply too shocked, and those that weren't knew better that to resist the efforts of the thugs.

The soldiers with the gasoline tanks left the mosque as a black car pulled up next to the truck. It was an MN-1972 Saloon, the only sedan manufactured in Daytanistan. Like the truck, it was brand new, but the design of the car had not changed at all since it was introduced in 1972. It was still something the villagers had rarely seen in Vehran. Its 600cc two-stroke engine puttered out, and its passengers disembarked. The driver wore the uniform of the Daytan People's Army, but the other three were civilians - two dark men wearing suits of an identical design (there were only a few patterns authorised by the central economic planners), and an unveiled woman of comparatively fair complexion. As she got out of the car she pulled a straw hat onto her head to shade herself - all patriots of pure ideology preferred straw hats for their head wear - and then promptly lit a cigarette. The three walked over to the huddled villagers.

"Comrades," began one of the men. "I am Ushein Faru. Since you do not already have one, I have been appointed as the branch secretary of the Vehran Village Branch of the Daytan Communist Workers Party."

The two fellow occupants of the car clapped at this announcement. The villagers looked on, not really comprehending what a branch secretary was. Some sort of receptionist?

"Comrades, I want you to know that I am here to represent you, the local workers and peasants. To be your voice within our glorious Party, which all of you are free to apply to join." said Faru.

Ah, so he was planning on being some sort of mayor or local chief then.

"You will probably not be aware that the General Secretary of the Central Administrative Commmittee of our beloved Party, Farrokh Nugat, has announced a fresh revolution, a cultural revolution." Faru smiled. "To liberate you, the well-meaning workers and peasants of our glorious Motherland, from the nefarious perfidy of clerics and superstition. My comrades here are appointed by the General Secretary to oversee the cultural revolution here in Vehran. Comrade Ali Tabrik here, on my left, is the new Village Commissioner of Education and Correct Thought."

"Socialist greetings to you all." said the other man, evidently named Tabrik, although unlike Faru, his greeting appeared in no way sincere.

"And Comrade Maryam Sharaza is the new Village Commissioner of Gender Equality and Science." Faru continued, gesturing to the woman, who stood nearby the mosque, finishing her cigarette.

"Socialist greetings to you all." she said. "I am here especially to help female workers and peasants adjust to life free from the oppression of wicked male religious fundamentalists. Despite the efforts of your miserable imam, all comrades, men and women, are equal, and soon you will take your rightful place alongside men, marching with them together to Communism's great promise!"

"Of course, the process of breaking the hold of superstition on you all won't be easy." said Faru. "And I am sure many of you, at this moment, do not realise that the General Secretary's glorious cultural revolution is for the best, and will lead to a better life for us all. However, I promise you, soon you will see the light."

"Absolutely they will see the light." Tabrik murmured with a dark chuckle. "Comrade Sharaza, illuminate them."

At that, Sharaza tossed her nearly-done cigarette into the door way of the mosque, lighting the gasoline and causing the whole building to burst into flames. The villagers began to shout and stand, in shock that the oldest building in their village, older by far than any of them, was being destroyed before their very eyes. Soldiers shoved a few of them back down. Faru looked a little glumly from the blaze to the people and back again. Alas, he thought, it must be done. For their own good.

"Sergeant, search the houses. Any writings in Arabic, and any Dushtoo translations of the Qu'ran, are to be seized and thrown into the flames." Faru said.

"Yes, Comrade Secretary." the sergeant nodded. "With pleasure."

"This is very interesting news! Incredable!" said Ion in excitment after hearing the news of the Cultural Revolution in Daytanistan

There were several other party leaders standing around Ion's desk. Ion was sitting at the desk while Irena was standing at his side

"What do you have planned?" asked one of the party leaders

"Well Firstly I want contact opened up with this nation we should establish closer relations between our two parties and possably we can learn plenty from thier ways"

Official Letter of the Karuchean Government to Daytan:
The Official stance of the great Party of the Karuchean Revolution, which works hard and tireless in the great venture towards Communism, is that this Ultra-Left, Counter-Revolutionary, Deviationist and Adventuristic tendency is to be denounced. The goal of the Dictatorship of the Proletariat is to build Socialism in that country, to liberate the productive forces and to liberate the people from colonial and Bourgeois tendencies. The goal is not to eradicate National Culture, of which religion forms a vital part, rather to restore national culture in a proletarian form.

Just as Nationalism was once used by the Bourgeois governments to justify their actions, and as such served as an ideology of the Bourgeois, so did Religion. However, as Nationalism came into service of the Proletariat, it took a Proletarian character and today, most Socialist countries accept that loving the Socialist fatherland is good and correct. The proper stance on religion must be to liberate it from Bourgeois use and turn it to encouraging love for the people and love for Socialism and love for the nation.

As a defender of World Socialism and guided by the great theories of Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin and the Thought of Karim Ahmad, we strongly urge a rectification campaign in Daytanistan.

Signed,
Premier of the State Council of the Socialist National Republic of Karuchea,
Pak Han-chul.

Secret Letter to Revolutionary Muslims of Daytanistan:
As-Salam Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatullah,
Brothers and Sisters, a Revolution is not easy, and it is not a choice we often want to make, rather it is a choice we have to make and which is inevitably made when contradictions reach a breaking point. Many Muslims in Daytanistan obviously supported the Socialist course of Daytanistan, however, these same good Comrades are now persecuted for their belief in Allah, this is not a crime against Socialism comrades and brothers and sisters; the crime against Socialism is the Ultra-Leftist, Counter-Revolutionary forces in your own nation who seek to sabotage the Revolution, Construction and Development of Daytanistan and seek to abolish national culture. As such, the Party of the Karuchean Revolution makes a promise to aid in any way the Muslim Revolutionaries of Daytanistan and urges them to rise up and purge the Revolution of its Petty-Bourgeois fanaticists.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF DAYTANISTAN

To: Pak Han-chul, Premier of the State Council of the Socialist National Republic of Karuchea
From: Amad Noosh, Supreme People's Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Literature, and Sports

Comrade Premier,

On behalf of the Supreme Daytan People's Council, with whose authority I write this letter, and in the name of the workers and peasants of Daytanistan, greetings.

The teachings of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and other great socialist thinkers were perfected by the Daytan revolutionary hero and the founding General Secretary of the Daytan Communist Workers Party, Khemal Nugat, long is his name remembered by the workers and peasants of the world. Subsequent works by great thinkers like Mao, Stalin, Kim Il Song, and Karim Ahmad, have been examined and expanded upon and distilled by the giants of our Party. In Daytan socialism, ideology has reached a perfect form, as the thoughts of all these thinkers have flowed together like water over stony river beds, purified by the flowing itself. Always in providing for the good government of the Daytan Motherland, the Supreme Daytan People's Council has been guided by the pure and perfect ideology of Khemal Nugat, may he be forever remembered by the people, received through our beloved Daytan Communist Workers Party.

That religion is an opiate of the masses is unambiguously clear to the Council and to the workers and peasants of Daytanistan. That Islam is a foreign influence, an infection brought with the forefathers of my own shoobdiman, the Zirkshes, is self-evidently clear to all students of Daytan history. Although all the Daytan shoobdimans now live together in harmony, it is a simple historical fact that the Zirkshes forced Islam upon the Daytars and the Ashoons. It was used as a tool of oppression by warlords and foreigners, and the chiefs against the ordinary tribes people, for centuries, until the Sheikhs overthrew the Shah of Daytanistan and supplanted him, using religion and superstition as their justification and source of legitimacy. According to the superstitions of this religion, the women of the Daytan proletariat especially were brutally repressed and segregated and discriminated against.

The Straw Hat Revolution liberated the Daytan workers and peasants, freed our socialist sisters from the tyranny of purdah, our students from the tyranny of superstitious religious orthodoxy, and all of our nation from the tyranny of the Sheikh. Since then, however, to the infinite grief of the Supreme Daytan People's Council, and the shame of many in our beloved and flawless Party, a misguided respect for the rights of the individual has, in many places, allowed the darkness of superstition to fall again, and the mullahs to again deceive the people with their lies and so-called holy books. Especially in the villages of the countryside in Parshea, the light of socialism has been covered up by the veil, and the words of Karl Marx and Khemal Nugat, long may he be remembered, have been overwritten with the lies of the Qu'ran.

The Supreme Daytan People's Council has determined that we should all learn from history. Communism's great promise cannot be achieved while so many of our comrades languish in the darkness of superstition. The voices of the great socialist thinkers cannot, in many places, be heard over the wicked lies of the clerics. There is no such thing as religion which serves the workers and peasants! No such thing as religion which serves the Motherland! No such thing as proletarian Islam! No such thing as a revolutionary Muslim! Far from being eradicated, the Daytan national culture is being protected and reinforced by the Cultural Revolution led by our beloved General Secretary!

Therefore the Supreme Daytan People's Council has adopted a rectification campaign, as you urged, although perhaps not along the lines your excellency envisioned. Just as Khemal Nugat purified Daytan socialism, so shall Farrokh Nugat purify Daytan culture! The error of religious superstition will be rectified forever!

With socialist greetings,

Amad Noosh
Supreme People's Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Literature, and Sports

Open Letter to the Democratic Republic of Daytanistan:
On the Direction of the Revolution in Daytanistan and the Question of Religion and Culture in the Socialist Revolution

Comrades, Brothers and Sisters:
In Karuchea, our Great Leader and Teacher, Comrade Marshall Karim Ahmad has guided and synthesized the teachings of great communists such as Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin, Fidel, Mao, Kim and others to not only the Karuchean situation, but radically developed them for the new era in which the industrial proletariat and peasantry no longer exist in the classical form in many nations.

He has taken the historical period of Marxism-Leninism and summed it up as 70% Correct and 30% Incorrect. Marxism-Leninism was correct in its time, when there was a large industrial working class to draw upon, it correctly called for Socialism and developed Socialism as a Science rather than a Utopian or Bourgeois construct. It correctly called for Revolution rather than Reformism and a People's Democratic Dictatorship, one which the People enjoyed Democracy and the Bourgeois were repressed. However, Socialism in these times made many errors, they deviated to Ultra-Left Petty-Bourgeois fanaticism and denounced the Nation, People and Culture. Thus, many erroneous attacks on the Nation and Culture and National value systems including religion were common. Marxism-Leninism was in the main, correct in its era, but we live in a new era of advanced science and technology where old industry and agriculture barely exist, instead most tasks are done by advanced intellectuals and the working class is now primarily working in service industries, leading to a rise of petty-bourgeois living and less revolutionary sentiment. Hence, a new Revolutionary force had to be found, our Great Leader, Comrade Marshall Karim Ahmad found this force in the People's Army. The People's Army alone is the force upon which Revolution and Construction must rely upon. The People's Army is the grand servant and defender of the People and their system, and around them all the people must ally. Socialism must be a bastion of the Nation, of the People and of their Culture.

Certainly, now Daytanistan is a Muslim nation and Islam permeates and is a vital part of National Culture. A Cultural Revolution must seek to Revolutionize culture, not to destroy it. Daytan Socialism should encourage Islam in a Revolutionary fashion, at the service of the people and for the benefit of Socialist construction. The abolition of national values and culture which Islam represents can only lead to a vacuum which will be filled by Bourgeois cultural values; in the form of Bourgeois social-decadence and filth.

Our Revolution in Karuchea has suffered many trials and errors and we have learned from our mistakes. Especially in these dark times, when Comrade Marshall Karim Ahmad is ill, we persevere to carry out Socialism. The World Communist Movement has made many mistakes in the past and continues to make many more, almost 200 years have passed since Marx began his theorizing and yet, more and more countries cling to dogma and ignore facts. The fundamental guiding policy of our Nation and Revolution has always been summed up in the following: "Revolution must always seek to unite the Nation, not to divide it. It must seek to re-affirm and Proletarianize national culture and to fight Bourgeois foreign values. We must remember Socialism like all systems previous, does not eliminate most ideologies, rather it transforms them and places its own character on them." This timeless quote by the Great Leader applies to our time.

We urge you to avoid Petty-Bourgeois fanaticism and to make a sober analysis of Daytanistan, this will no doubt lead you to realize that Religion as an ideology can be an ideology of Socialism and Communism. A Cultural Revolution must affirm national culture, and purges should be directed against Revisionists and Counter-Revolutionaries, not against Nationalists. Failing to make such an analysis can only lead not only to harm for the Daytan Revolution in the form of Ultra-Leftist Revisionism, but will also lead to serious consequences for the International Communist movement and relations between our two Revolutions.

Sincerely and in Brotherly Love:
Premier of the State Council of the Socialist National Republic of Karuchea,
Pak Han-chul

DAYTAN COMMUNIST WORKERS PARTY

Comrades of the Bulgislavian Workers Party,

The Daytan Cultural Revolution is about the restoration of the true culture of the Daytan proletariat to its rightful place, and in so doing, to reinvigorate the workers and peasants in their march towards Communism's great promise. It is about removing the disruptive, anti-Daytan, and anti-socialist elements of the day to day lives in many of the distant areas in Daytanistan, far removed from the capital, and leaving in their place a restored, truly Daytan and truly socialist way of life. The Daytan Communist Workers Party and the workers and peasants of Daytanistan alike rejoice in the friendship of the Bulgislavian Workers Party, and stand affirmed in their confidence of the purity of its ideology as a result of your support for our great revolutionary endeavour.

The Daytan Cultural Revolution has been criticised by some so-called socialist philosophers and leaders abroad. I wish at this point to address those criticisms, so that you, our Bulgislavian comrades, will see them for the nonsenses they are, just as the Daytan workers and peasants do. Some socialist thinkers, corrupted by uncritical assimilation of bourgeois philosophy, have erroneously identified religion as an indigenous aspect of proletarian culture, a natural part of it, which must not be interfered with because socialist revolutions must unite nations not divide them. This is in every way an inaccurate and gravely misleading point of view.

First, there is no truth whatever in the notion that religion is, by itself, a uniting element in any culture. In Daytanistan, religion has divided shoobdiman from shoobdiman, man from woman, and tribe from tribe for centuries. Proletarian women have especially been suppressed by religion. This is not a feature of Daytan history alone, nor of the Islamic religion alone, but merely a specific example of a general principle. Religion divides the proletariat. Nothing which divides the proletariat is productive from the perspective of uniting the nation behind the revolution.

Second, there is no truth whatever in the assertion that religion is indigenous to proletarian culture. This assertion struggles to find any basis in even the most casual examination of history. Was the warlord Mamood, the Prophet of Islam, of the proletariat? Any army which calls itself of God is not an army of the people, and any army which is not of the people is a counter-revolutionary army. The Daytan People's Army fought and destroyed such an army during the Straw Hat Revolution on 6 December 1933. It would be hard to tell the revolutionary heroes who fought in that battle that the Islamic Republic and the Sheikh they had overthrown were proletarian heroes!

Nevertheless, it should be abundantly clear to all the world that the Daytan Cultural Revolution respects the conscience of the individual. Where workers and peasants have been found in mosques or at home in private prayer, they have not had so much as a hair on their heads harmed. It is rather at the false prophets and demagogues, who have poisoned the minds of the workers and peasants with their counter-revolutionary ideology of hate they call religion, that the Cultural Revolution has directed its vigour. The essential aspect of the Daytan Cultural Revolution, just as with the Straw Hat Revolution, is that of liberation. It is a revolution our Party has committed to with all of its strength for the liberation of the very workers and peasants who have been misguided and led away from the bright light of socialism and into the darkness of religion.

On behalf of the Central Administrative Committee, and all of the provincial branches and party units of the Daytan Communist Workers Party, I thank the Bulgislavian Workers Party for its friendship, and to all of our Bulgislavian comrades, I say thank you, and unite! We have nothing to lose but our chains!

With socialist greetings,

Open Letter from Karuchea

The Socialist National Republic of Karuchea under the great leadership of Premier Omar Bakdash offers an ultimatum. The ultimatum is simple, the Revolution in Daytanistan must correct its errors and reverse its divisive and harmful stance towards religion and national culture, or it risks splitting the world proletarian camp.

As a leader in the World Socialist movement, neither Karuchea nor its allies can afford to see such a split occur. We urge the immediate retraction of erroneous policies at once.

Should you seek to keep going in this harmful, ultra-leftist, deviationist course, we will be forced to act to protect the interests of World Revolution.

Secret Message to Any Opposition Forces in the Daytan Party
The Party of the Karuchean Revolution and its ceaseless, tireless work in support of World Revolution is known, as such we urge any forces within the Vanguard Party in your great and noble country to take all neccesary measures to fix the erroneous lines coming out of your great Party. Karuchea and the camp of World Peace will support you 100%, with troops if we must.

"Gaan, gaan, gaan!"
Seven Recon Commando troopers hopped from the NH-1Y Black Mamba. After checking the perimeter, they set off. SGT Rush de Haven hoped their intelligence had been correct; it would be just like the ILDP to mislead the Soufrikans and get them to violate the territory of a neutral country. But the Wahhabi rebels also liked to hide where they'd least be expected...or would they? The OIA knew the ILDP was attempting to arm and train elements in Daytanistan (oh, the infectious delusion of global jihad as-saf!).
Don't fire unless fired on, don't fire unless fired on, don't... de Haven repeated to himself. Odds were it would happen. Then there was potential intervention by Karuchea...
The sergeant squeezed the grip of his R1A3 assault rifle in anticipation. The squad moved on through the valley.

The secret police drove the same MN-1972 Saloons as everybody else, although they didn't need to wait ten years between ordering the car and its delivery. The black car pulled up in front of an apartment block in Yerbel. The moon, street lights and the glow from a few windows in the apartment block provided dull illumination in the night, but the faces of the secret police were still shielded from the light by their patriotic straw hats as they climbed the steps up the front of the apartment block. Using the police skeleton key, they got through the security door without the need for anyone to buzz them up - not that they would have had any problem with getting a terrified neighbour to comply with their request to let them in via the intercom.

Apartment 53 was on the fifth level of the building. Its occupant was a member of the Party, formerly in good standing, a school teacher and the chairman of the Mamood Nugat Socialist School 22 Local Workers Soviet, which represented the teachers and staff at his school. The secret police knocked hard on the door. It soon opened, and the middle aged form of Baba Farookh standing in his night clothes was instantly dismayed at the sight of the two men who had summoned him from watching late night television.

"Comrade Baba Farookh?" one of the secret police asked.

"Yes..." answered Farookh. "That's me."

"Are you in possession of a certain letter from Karuchea?" asked the other secret policeman. "It is senseless to lie, as you surely know, comrade."

"N..." Farookh began. What was the point? They'd tear his home apart looking for it anyway. "The letter... I have a letter from Karuchea, yes, I can get it for you. Won't you come in?"

"Thank you, comrade. We wouldn't want to wake your neighbours." smiled one of the secret police.

The three men went into the apartment and closed the door. Farookh offered them seats, which they accepted, and drinks, which they declined. He then went and retrieved the letter. He held it out to the secret police, who demurred.

"Read it to us, please." said the first policeman.

"Yes... very well..." Farookh began, unfolding the sheet of paper. "The Party of the Karuchean Revolution and its ceaseless, tireless work in support of... the... the... World Revolution is known, as such we urge any forces within the... uh... Vanguard Party in your great and noble country to take all necessary measures to fix... erm... to fix... measures to fix the... erroneous lines... coming out of your great Party. Karuchea and the camp of World Peace will support you 100%, with troops if we must."

"Why was that letter sent to you, comrade?" asked one of the secret policemen, calmly.

"You know why." Farookh mumbled, folding the letter back up.

"Of course we know why. Humour us." snapped the other policeman.

"Because... I supported Pershoosh Kham in the election for the Regional Soviet... and she has spoken against the Cultural Revolution in the Regional Soviet of People's Deputies." Farookh said.

"Indeed." a policeman nodded as he took the letter into his possession. "There will be a fresh election. Ms Kham is no longer a member of the Party and thus ineligible to be a People's Deputy. Your local soviet will elect Comrade Amad Ibnshal, whom you will support fully before resigning as chairman."

"Amad Ibnshal... the gym teacher?" Farookh asked.

"The next Regional People's Deputy representing Mamood Nugat Socialist School 22 Local Workers Soviet." nodded one of the secret police.

"I see." Farookh nodded. "And that's all?"

"Almost." replied the secret policeman. He handed a notepad and pen to Farookh. "If you just write down the name of everybody you know who opposes the Cultural Revolution, then yes, that's all. Of course, if we find out that you leave people off the list, then we will be back."

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF DAYTANISTAN

To: Premier Omar Bakdash, Socialist National Republic of Karuchea
From: Amad Noosh, Supreme People's Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Literature, and Sports

Comrade Premier,

The workers and peasants of Daytanistan, through their eternal political organ, the Supreme Daytan People's Council, rejects utterly any notion that you have any authority whatever to presume to command the Daytan people in the direction of their domestic national policy. The notion that you speak for the world proletariat, or the world socialist movement in any way shape or form is utterly absurd. It represents nothing more than Karuchea's imperialist ambitions and delusions. Your assertions of natural international leadership in either the socialist movement or in socialist thought we regard as nothing more than hubris. We shall not further dignify your gross misunderstandings of the glorious Cultural Revolution, history, nor ideology by responding to your continual hysteria and baseless accusations.

The Supreme Daytan People's Council treats your so-called ultimatum with the contempt it so rightly deserves. The Supreme Daytan People's Council demands an immediate apology for your nebulous threats against the Daytan Motherland and Proletariat. If you dare presume to act on them, the blood of whatever mercenaries you may send against the Daytan People's Army will be upon your head.

With socialist greetings,

Amad Noosh
Supreme People's Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Literature, and Sports

APPROVED, ORDERED AND AUTHORISED BY THE
SUPREME DAYTAN PEOPLE'S COUNCIL
At Yerbel, 21 August 2008, as attested by
Farrokh Nugat

After creeping through the valley for an hour or so, the men of Recon Commando Team 5 came upon a small neighborhood. Burka-clad women went about their business, but otherwise, it was a ghost town...for the moment.
SGT de Haven waved CPL Spiker, grenadier, and CPL Baaiman, rifleman, forward, then pointed to two houses. "Check 'em." He gestured for the rest of the squad to follow him and roadie-ran to another. Leaning ever so slightly, he peered through a window. A man kneeled on a prayer rug, prostrating himself and mumbling, "Allahu akbar...Allahu akbar...Allahu akbar..."
"ALLAHU AKBAR!!" Gunshots rang out somewhere ahead. The sergeant took a look around the corner of the house, ignoring the hubbub as the startled occupant readied an AKS-74 while loudly cursing in Arabic. De Haven managed to make out "...Damn Wahhabi lunatics..." and nodded. Might be the rebels. He whispered, "Baaiman, see 'em?"
"Roger. Six-plus in a bakkie with machine gun. AKs and RPG-7s."
"Can you identify?"
"Stand by..." The corporal peered through his binocs at the pakul-wearing men. "Leader, I have POSIDENT on at least one."
De Haven was surprised. "How can you tell?"
"He was dumb enough to write 'ILDP', repeat, 'ILDP' in Arabic script, on his rifle." Baaiman removed the binoculars and raised his OK-9.
De Haven ordered his troops to take up positions in the treeline, while he and Baaiman hid behind cars. "Ready?"
The answer was a collective "affirmative." The sergeant took a deep breath. "Take the shot, bru."
POP! An SP-6 9x39mm AP round left the barrel at 920 feet per second, striking the dim-witted mujahid in the head with a puff of pink smoke. As the man crumpled, de Haven opened up on the technical, aiming for the engine.
A mujahid raised an RPG and launched it. Baaiman shot him, but not before taking cover behind a garbage truck. The thermobaric warhead struck, blowing the car apart.
The mujahideen kissed their god's ass once more and charged, screaming maniacally, but Spiker sent a final grenade into their ranks.
De Haven and his troops approached one shaking terrorist. "Tell me," he said in broken Arabic, "are there any more of your scummy pals in Daytanistan?"
The man gave them a hateful look. "Stop speaking Arabic!"
CRACK! The mujahid screamed in agony as he clutched his broken nose. "I'll ask again, my vriend...Where?"
The man spat blood at him. "Go to Hell, kafir."
SGT de Haven raised his MP7A1, muttered, "You first," and squeezed the trigger.

I don't know who the Wahhabi rebels are. The term is Daytan, not Daytani. I actually have no idea what it is you are doing or even what it is you think you are doing.

As for the ILDP (Islamies Leër van Die Profeet - Islamic Army of the Prophet), they're a Soufrikan Muslim terrorist group, and they're trying to aid or recruit any like-minded factions within your borders (whom you've noted to be a significant irritant). The term is Daytan, not Daytani. I stand corrected. I actually have no idea what it is you are doing or even what it is you think you are doing. I suppose it's a rather faulty attempt at RPing, to be honest. If you like, I can simply delete my posts (and you, the above, of course) and we can forget this ever happened. There are no Muslim terrorist groups in Daytanistan. There are no religious groups which I've noted to be a significant irritant. Rather, it is organised religion, which in Daytanistan means Islam, which is an ideological irritant. The "cultural revolution" is a propaganda term for the removal by the Communist government of cultural elements which the General Secretary regards to be hostile to or incompatible with his regime. There is no armed insurrection of Muslims against the Daytan government. I apologise if I have created that impression.

I suppose it's a rather faulty attempt at RPing, to be honest. If you like, I can simply delete my posts (and you, the above, of course) and we can forget this ever happened. Just send me a visitor message. Sorry for all the confusion.

I don't think it's a faulty attempt at RPing, I just think it might have proceeded from a false assumption about the situation. My posts about the situation from within Daytanistan, both official government/party announcements and the "actual events on the ground" posts, have been intended to demonstrate the actual nature of the so-called Cultural Revolution. I did not intend, in any of these posts, to create the impression that there were armed rebel religious groups. You're certainly welcome to participate in the thread, but it would probably be a good idea to redo your post, because, as I said, it seems to be based on a false assumption. Maybe you could edit to have them actually trying to set up an armed resistance group to the government, for instance. But there aren't really any pre-existing domestic groups.

The Socialist National Republic of Karuchea's Declaration Against the Daytan Party Leadership

In Daytan, the Party's senseless and ultra-leftist revisionist and deviationist lines on their own national culture caused us great concern. In the name of World Socialism and the great World Revolution, we have made several proposals to keep the inevitable from occuring. We sent them letter after letter, urging a peaceful stance and the adoption of their own culture into their Socialist programmes. However, this was rejected outright.

It is the formal conclusion of the Party of the Karuchean Revolution, that the Daytan Party has been infiltrated and taken over by a renegade Trotskyist element, which wishes to pursue the restoration of Capitalism and the annihilation of Daytan culture and values. Their ultra-left rhetoric disguises their ultra-right intentions to abolish Daytan values and ultimately, will move on to the destruction of the Vanguard Party and Socialism, as "Cultural Revolutions" always attempt to do. Therefore, the Party in Daytan has fundamentally changed colours from "Red" to "White", as a leader of the World Socialist and World Peace movement, the Socialist National Republic of Karuchea can waste no time in its attempts to salvage and restore Socialism in Daytan.

Therefore, as of this moment, we declare our intentions to restore genuine Socialist leadership and a genuine Socialist vanguard party in Daytan. We urge all Daytan comrades and Muslims to abandon the current Daytan Party and declare allegiance to the Daytan Democratic People's Party, which will serve as a vanguard for the new Socialist and Corrective Revolution.

In short, we say to our Daytan brothers and sisters and the Daytan Democratic People's Party:
Victory to Islamic Revival!
Victory to the Karuchea-Daytan Alliance!
Victory to World Socialism!

Signed,
Premier Omar Bakdash, Vice-Secretary of the Party of the Karuchean Revolution.

Immediately after sending the letter out fully, Bakdash called Malik Akkad, General Secretary of the International Co-Operation Pact of Military Regimes. "We will send 500,000. The others can send whatever. I only want this to reach certain regimes in the pact, we will reimburse anyone who comes in through the Council for Mutual Economic Advancement." "Yes" was Malik's answer. "What about Comrade Taesun?" asked Malik, "She is quite against this move." "Remove her from her posts, we can have no disagreements. Her replacement as Vice-Premier will be Amani Sinde, as Chair of the NA it will be Comrade Ibrahim." "Yes" was Malik's response.

500,000 troops were to be deployed in the next 24 hours, a relatively easy operation by Karuchean standards. Helicopters, APCs, Paratroopers, the works, any way in was a way in. They prepared 10 initial armoured divisions, each full of T-100 series tanks, they were able to match most modern armies. Their air divisions, 20 initially, took to the skies. Su-27s backed by MiG 37s. Additional bombers were also being sent. The plan was simple, bomb the capital and hit it with the initial artillery, as the armoured and infantry divisions moved in, artillery would hit the city and then tactical air strikes to back up the ground divisions.

OOC: It is obviously Karuchea's intentions to set-up a puppet-government to carry out Socialism in Daytan. I wish for the creation of a character to be the puppet-head of this puppet-government and party.

OOC: You should have posted this in International Incidents. This is a very well written thread and you definitely have a talent for writing.

2100 Hours, Underhill Harbor, Rynibar Colony

The cigar smoke lofted lazily as the cool breeze of the Rynibarian night descended on the Volzgradien Colonial Outpost. The sun had set only minutes before, and the now exhausted soldiers of the Volzgradien Colonial Army were busy setting up mosquito netting attempting to relax in their rather uncomfortable surroudings. Several of the soldiers at outpost Alpha 3 were now in their mess hall, plainly eating and telling tall tales of their exploits during the occupation of Southern Rynibar almost three years before. For many, those three years seemed like an eternity of boredom and ceaseless drills in a vain attempt to keep the Socialist Rynibarian Army in shape and ready to fight. While only around a quarter of the occupation force were Rynibarian natives, the force still happily proclaimed itself "The United Army for the Liberation of the Great Nation of Rynibar". Despite the ludicrously long and somewhat overpowering name, the "UALGNR" (a desperate attempt to shorten the magnanimous title) prided itself for its somewhat successful occupation and discipline.

For Junior Commissar Alexei Alinov however, all these subjects mattered little to him on this tiny island in the middle of the ocean. As a Korvogradien born in the far reaches of Northern Volzgrad, Alexei hated humid weather with a passion. Despite the specifically tropical specialized Khaki uniforms they wore, Alinov still felt like he was going to get heat stroke. He took the last puff on his Cuban cigar before tossing the last remaining ashes into a nearby puddle. He took a deep yawn before he stepped into the large reinforced concrete bunker affectionately referred to as "The Rock". Almost immediately, he ran into his young and somewhat annoying adjutant, Robert Pulsidovski. Despite his usual "motor mouth" manner, Robert seemed darkly serious as saluted and handed the Commissar a new telegram. Alinov almost couldn't believe what he was reading. He couldn't help but gape as he finished the letter before breaking out into a hearty smile. "Aren't you happy Robert!? We're finally going to DO something!" The Commissar almost couldn't contain his excitement.

Robert flashed him a weird look before he spoke, "I've informed the other bases and outposts. We're supposed to assemble at Reinkov Square at 1500 hours tomorrow with approximately 15,000 others." Having calmed down slightly, Alexei responded much calmer then before, "Looks like we've got a battle ahead of us Robby. Maybe we can get promoted and finally get out of this hellhole!" Despite his previously somber mood, Robert smiled back at the Commissar, "High hopes sir. Still, it troubles me that we're going to be fighting other Socialists. It just feels...wrong." The Commissar stared at Robert with almost a fatherly look, "It's a bit troubling, yes. But they seem like Trotskyists so I guess it's okay."

Tao Sh-Xong, one of the mover-shaker members of the Central Committee of the Chivik People's Liberation Forum and the man considered to be chiefly responsible for bringing Daytan Communism to the Sacred Combine, had taken a keen interest in the Cultural Revolution. Inarguably, it was important for the Chivikistanis to make themselves adaptable to changes in the politics of their neighbour if the CPLA was to have much chance of defeating the Combine and driving the foreign concessions from Chivikistan.

Tao Sh-Xong (a nome de guerre indicating intelligence and greatness in governance) was in any case in fundamental agreement with Nugat and Abash. Not precisely a religion, the Chivikista Code was associated with spirituality and the Buddhist influences in many people's lives back home, and as such religion was to be regarded as a negative.

Comrade Tao sent official word of the CPLF's approval and support in the Daytan Cultural Revolution, and pledged to follow the Workers' Party's lead in the liberation struggle to the east.

2 Armored Regiments (100 M1 Abrams each)

Seems to me that someone wants to play puppet master...I don't care personally, but just make sure it's not too obvious, ok? ICOPMR needs as much GOOD press as it can get right now. Also, seeing as we are lending military support, and will help to...eh hem, "retain" control after everything settles down, we would like 10% of any profit made out of Daytan over the next 10 years. This doesn't seem unreasonable, does it?

Haha, do not worry, this will be a stroll. They have caused their own discontent by attacking existing cultural institutions, we will have no end to the people willing to be in the new government. ICOPMR will only receive good press for this endeavor, fighting extremism and restoring "democratic" government and culture. As a fellow member of ICOPMR and also, therefore a probable member of the Council for Mutual Economic Advancement, we thank Jimzraway and her contributions. We offer an additional 20 billion dollars to be invested in whatever industry she needs it in. We also will provide Jimzraway with a 15% share in most major businesses in Daytan.

With that letter, Karuchean forces began to move, deploying in the designated LZs just inside Daytan. 250,000 10 air divisions and 5 armoured divisions were deployed initially with a further 250,000 to follow. They began their march on the capital of Daytan. The first air run began to take place, they dropped propaganda flyers, some reading "For Islam and Socialism, Rise against the Daytan Atheists!" some reading "Karuchea is here to save Daytan cultural values" various other slogans were dropped. The second air run, consisting of 2 bomber divisions and 3 support began tactically striking the Daytan capital.

Ion Milencu the Great Comrade Leader organized a mass rally in Terevesti on Provoçe Square.

Like every Rally held in Bulgislavia thousands were transported from the country side in cattle trucks and housed in Barracks where they were brought out the next day for the Rally

Provoçe Square was filled with 84,000 people. They held up portraits of Ion Milencu and Irena Milencu, Slogans and Banner for support of the party. The Bulgislavian Leadership were on the Balcony of the Hall of the Party looking down on the square.

There were 3 portraits hanging above the balcony for the Occasion.

One was a Portrait of the Late leader Provoçe, the Present leader Milencu and the other portrait was of Farrokh Nugat

The front row of people standing on the square were clapping in Unison and chanting support for the Daytanistan cultural revolution and its leadership while also chanting pro Ion and Irena chants

Ion walked up to the microphones and began talking

raising a number of points

#1 Firstly praising the Daytan Leadership
#2 How every nation has the right to pursue its own path to reach the end goal of a perfect communist society free from any outside interference and intervention
#3 condeming and imperialistic actions of the Karuchean leadership
#4 ending the speech that Bulgislavia has a lot to learn from the Daytan leadership and we should follow in thier example

At the end of the speech the crowd bellow went back to clapping in unison, chanting and holding up the portraits

Ion and Irena left the Balcony and went back into the Hall of the Party.

Party officials helped the crowd disperse orderly and the rally was ended.

To Daytan Leadership
From Bulgislavian Leadership

When this ordeal with Karuchea is over we would like to host some Daytan leadership in a state visit to Terevesti or a visit to Daytanistan by the Bulgislavian leadership. We are only a small country of 5.4 Million people so we cant assist much militarily but we will voice our support for your party.

Along with the letter was a video tape which recorded the entire Rally

The rally would also be shown on the restricted 2 hours of Bulgislavian TV so all Bulgislavian citizen knew the line the Workers Party was taking in this issue and the line the Bulgislavian people would accept and support

1500 Hours, Reinkov Square, Rynibar Colony

The unusually hot and humid weather along with the forced parade dress only served to further agitate the already weary Volzgradien troops. In traditional VCA style, all regiments called for the massive rally had arrived right on time. Now, 15,000 men from 5 different regiments stood facing the massive "Peoples Fortress" (Command building of the Volzgradien Colonial Army force stationed on Rynibar). After almost 30 minutes of waiting in the oppressive sun, even the 5 regimental commanders were beginning to feel agitated. Finally, almost miraculously, Governor General Boris Stukovic appeared on the raised podium at the front of the massive and elegant building. Like always, he attended the rally dressed in full parade gear. All of his almost 50 medals and decorations glinted in the afternoon sun as he began his speech.

"Comrades of the brave Volzgradien Colonial Army. We are about to embark upon a great crusade of liberation! All 15,000 of you, including myself, will go to the far off land of Daytanistan and show its people the true meaning and joys of Socialism. This is not a war for land, glory, or resources; this is a liberation drive to keep both the flames of Revolution and Tradition burning in the hearts of all Daytan people. We will bring peace were there is none, we will bring hope to the hopeless, food to the hungry; we will be both guardians and liberators of the people.

We will not be alone in this endeavor. Comrades from both the nations of Karuchea and Jimzraway will aid us in this noble quest. United, we will bring Socialism to the world and beyond!"

The 15,000 troops present all yelled in unison the ever present motto Long live the Volzgradien Union! Wasting no time, the VCA force boarded the transport ships and began to sail off toward the far away lands of Daytanistan. Followed by several gunboats, the force was both a symbol of liberty and force.

As the leader of the United Communist Party toured ridings to support her candidates in the by-election, hoping to overtake the Conservatives as the third-largest party, events in red-flag-toting inevitably encroached into the press pack's questions.

"Ms. Cressey, what is your reaction to the increasing tensions over the Daytan situation?"

Inwardly, Anne Marsha Cressey sighed. But an answer had to be given; as stupid as she felt the association between her party and the kind of socialism being bandied about was.

Pausing to compose her answer, she said, "I think it's very clear that the United Communist Party rejects these backward, repressive and outdated parodies of socialism. We are not on anyone's side in this conflict."

Launching into expository mode, she added, "The UCP is about socialism of the 21st century. We have no time for dogmatic Stalinists and those so obsessed with socialist literature that they ignore the true call of socialism to liberate the working people, they only turn into the evils they claim to fight against."

"Marx was not calling for religion to be exterminated. He saw it as a symptom of the sickness of capitalism, where people grasp for meaningless superstitions because their lives are so full of exploitation and suffering. It is when you lift the working people up and out of that exploitation and suffering that religion will naturally wither away..."

Sensing the journalists were losing interest, she quickly wrapped up, "...so don't associate the UCP with these archaic dinosaurs."

Thank you very much. That's why I didn't post it in II.

I am going to rain on the parades of the random invaders by asking them to sort out a few facts before they attempt to numberwank Comrade Nugat out of office.

http://www.alternatenationstates.net/images/daytanistanmap.png

Daytanistan is a Central Asian nation which is completely landlocked. It is bordered by Chivikistan in the east and Assurayah in the west and who knows which other countries north and south. Presumably my region mates although to my knowledge they don't RP here.

In order to pull off any actual invasion of even a hundredth the size of the forces being bandied about, you need supply chains. The logistics of invading Daytanistan are not inconsiderable. You would need bases in adjacent countries. You would need permission to cross the airspace of independent nations or the ability to ignore their sovereignty. Nobody has established any of those.

And while it isn't impossible to build such bases and arrange such a logistical nightmare, it takes time. Certainly a lot more time than a couple of days, to say nothing of the amount of time it takes to mobilise hundreds of thousands of troops in the first place.

If anybody intends to invade Daytanistan, they will have to resolve these issues so that their planes don't drop out of the sky for lack of fuel and their troops die in the desert for lack of food, water, medical supplies and bullets.

Finally, I have gone to the trouble of creating a wiki and I would appreciate it if you could look it up so that you can get the details right about the country you are trying to invade: http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/daytanistan.html

Notably, the name of the country is Daytanistan, not Daytan. The nationality is Daytan. Example usage in a sentence "Daytans come from Daytanistan".

OOC: It is obviously Karuchea's intentions to set-up a puppet-government to carry out Socialism in Daytan. I wish for the creation of a character to be the puppet-head of this puppet-government and party.

As you have no contact with anybody in Daytanistan, this will only be done if it comes to it. Nobody in Daytanistan with a ounce of political ambition or instinct for self-preservation would put their hand up as an opposition leader while the current regime is in place. Almost nobody in Daytanistan can remember a time before the Communists were in power. Anything vaguely resembling a source of possible opposition to the Nugat dynasty has been ruthless hunted down and destroyed decades ago. There is no pre-existing organisation which is capable of taking the initiative to declare itself a separate party and government. If your troops ever get to Daytanistan and establish control over a large enough area, then the invading forces would have to create such a puppet government from scratch.

Revolution House (the Saffron Palace), Yerbel
Official Headquarters of the Central Administrative Committee of the Daytan Communist Workers Party
Revolution House, formerly the Saffron Palace, was built by Abdoola Faad Sha in the mid-19th Century, and today still had very much the same air as it had when it was a royal palace, at least in its west wing. Revolution House was the headquarters of the Central Administrative Committee of the Daytan Communist Workers Party, and as such, housed the offices of the party officials who helped the General Secretary maintain control over the organs of government at every level throughout Daytanistan. These offices were located in the east wing of the palace - the same cheap mass produced desks and chairs which could be found in the rest of the country now filled palatial rooms stripped bare of their grandeur by two successive revolutions. Although the exterior of the palace was as grand and palatial as ever, built in a Western neoclassical style, the interior of its east wing only left the faintest impression of its former splendour. The west wing, however, was another story.

The west wing of the Saffron Palace (for this wing was deserving of the name palace), was the home of the General Secretary of the Central Administrative Committee, Farrokh Nugat, the grandson of the leader of the Straw Hat Revolution. Just as the Shahs who had once occupied the building had done, the General Secretaries of the Central Administrative Committee had passed their office (and with it, all the power the shahs had ever had and maybe more) down from father to son. The west wing was decorated in a fashion in every way befitting a modern hereditary monarch. It was filled with a combination of royal artwork preserved from the wrath of iconoclastic fanatics during the time of the Islamic Republic of Daytanistan and more modern works purchased from collections all around the world by the occupants of the west wing over the years. Unlike the east wing of the very same building, the west wing's walls and ceilings had been restored to their previous glory, its halls and salons once again looking worthy of the home of the Shah.

As he strode down the hallway flanked by generals and politicians, Farrokh Nugat, the General Secretary of the Central Administrative Committee of the Daytan Communist Workers Party, glanced at the portrait of himself which hung in the palace's main hall on the second of its four levels. It hung next to his father, Mamood Nugat, and his father, Khemal Nugat, and before him, the last Shah, Mamood Ali Sha. The line of portraits stretched all the way back to Amad Ali Sha. The only rulers of a united Daytanistan omitted from the portrait gallery were the sheikhs who ruled the Islamic Republic - and they had never had portraits commissioned of themselves to hang.

"...allegedly numbering in the hundreds of thousands, although our own intelligence cannot verify the size of individual formations." reported General Khemal Ali. "There is absolutely no evidence, however, that a logistics chain capable of supporting forces anywhere near that size is being organised."

"And we have received support from our comrades in Chivikistan. Comrade Tao Sh-Xong is, as you know, Comrade General Secretary, a great admirer of you, your father, and your grandfather." reported Amad Noosh, the Supreme People's Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and half a dozen other seemingly unrelated portfolios. "He holds true to the perfect ideology of our great Party. He is so convinced, I believe, of the inevitability of his ultimate success in Chivikistan that he would not hesitate to commit the armies under his command to the defence of our mutual interests here in Daytanistan."

"Comrade Tao is a great friend to the Daytan Motherland." nodded Nugat. "You will write back to him expressing gratitude and admiration."

"Of course, Comrade General Secretary." Noosh smiled.

"If an invasion actually gets under weigh, we will be glad for the support." Ali said. "I am convinced that the scale of a ground invasion necessary to overrun Daytanistan is beyond the capability of the counter-revolutionaries. They lack the familiarity with the Daytan terrain, with the methods of fighting which are most effective here, and of course, their supply chain will be longer than any since Alexander the Great's. Plus, our soldiers will be defending their Motherland against foreign invaders. Of course, if we are forced to give any ground in such a struggle, we will destroy all infrastructure on our retreat. Eventually the foreigner will be unable to advance any further, every step will be an agony, and he will be bleeding all the way."

"But?" Nugat asked impatiently as the group rounded a corner and headed down a grand staircase.

"Comrade General Secretary, I fear the enemy's air superiority." Ali concluded. "Assuming he can find bases from which to launch, the enemy will command very significant air assets."

"We have extensive surface-to-air missile batteries for the national defence!" Nugat insisted. "I have received report after report which assures me that Daytan airspace is impregnable!"

"Comrade General Secretary, with respect..." Ali began, taking a diplomatic tone. He glanced at the others, unsure how to explain it. "...it's just that in Daytanistan, under your glorious stewardship... you only have to say that a thing must be done, and it will be done. If you desire that a man be executed, say, you have the Council issue the legal warrants, and that man will be executed. In fact, practically, he is dead as soon as you desire him to be executed, Comrade General Secretary... To all effect, the man is as good as dead, legally dead..."

"Does this have a point, Comrade General?" asked Nugat, impatiently.

"Yes, Comrade General Secretary..." Ali continued, nodding. "You see... when you ordered that the number of SAM batteries in Parshea province be tripled, Comrade General Secretary... practically, for all intents and purposes, in all reports, and to all but one respect, the batteries were tripled..."

"But one respect?" Nugat asked.

"Well, Comrade General Secretary, it has come to my attention, in reviewing the national defence posture, Comrade General Secretary, as you instructed, Comrade General Secretary..." Ali stammered. "That not all reports of battery completion and successful test firings reflected... as it were, Comrade General Secretary... an actual... well... completed... successfully tested... SAM battery..."

"What?" Nugat asked.

"It appears, Comrade General Secretary, that so eager to obey you orders were some of the officers... Comrade General Secretary... that their reports of their having successfully followed your orders... may have been somewhat exaggerated." Ali completed, gritting his teeth in preparation for the outburst he feared would inevitably follow.

"WHAT?" Nugat screamed. "These men! These officers, any who filed a false report about our SAM battery readiness, are to be arrested at once! Do you hear me, Comrade General??? At once!!! Any man who has reported that his battery is functioning when it is not is to be executed immediately as a counter-revolutionary traitor and enemy of the state! How many batteries do we have in Parshea Province?"

"Nearly twice as many as last year, Comrade General Secretary..." Ali began.

"I ordered them tripled!" Nugat fumed. "Comrade General, I want names! All of you, general staff... the Daytan People's Army must be ready for the enemy! I want a complete audit! Any man who has overstated our readiness, or through whose incompetence has retarded our readiness, must be removed from his position and charged at once!"

"Yes, Comrade General Secretary!" shouted the general staff in unison.

"Liars! Traitors!" Nugat fumed as he stormed down the stairs.

Daytanistan is a Central Asian nation which is completely landlocked. It is bordered by Chivikistan in the east and Assurayah in the west and who knows which other countries north and south.

OOC: Yes. Assurayah is a widesprawling nation to the west of Daytanistan and it is full of Assurs. It also has a coast. But the Assurs will not allow some foreigners to invade Daytanistan. Actually, they will pewpew any invasion force that tries to cross into Daytanistan.

Comrade Commissioner,

It is with great worry that the High Secretariat of the Republic of Assurayah has met the news of the threats against our Daytan neighbours. The workers of Daytanistan may rest assured of the continued solidarity of the Assur workers in the face of any reactionary foreign aggression against the free and progressive Democratic Republic of Daytanistan.

OOC: Just to clarify, my troops are peacekeepers. They'll make sure that no fighting breaks out between religious extremists and the Daytan Peoples Army. We wish to simply stabilize your country.

Soufrika is the one who has introduced this idea that there are armed religious extremists in Daytanistan.

Let me state it clearly:

There are no armed religious extremists in Daytanistan.

There are no militant religious groups in Daytanistan.

There is no organised opposition group in Daytanistan.

Only in the government's propaganda do the ordinary Daytan citizens who happen to be Muslims/whatever else constitute religious extremists, and even in the government's propaganda, they are not armed.

I just can't help but feel that many of the people who have posted in this thread haven't read it if these are the things they are taking away from it.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF DAYTANISTAN

To: Naum Asho, Secretary of Defence and Foreign Affairs
From: Amad Noosh, Supreme People's Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Literature, and Sports

Comrade Secretary,

As always, the Republic of Assurayah enjoys the friendship of the workers and peasants of Daytanistan, and the Supreme Daytan People's Council. I am pleased to extend the thanks of the Supreme Daytan People's Council to the High Secretariat. The peoples of Central Asia can defeat all foreign threats through their solidarity!

The Supreme Daytan People's Council has instructed the Daytan People's Army to liaise with your department in regards to the details of regional defence arrangements. In order to assist with similar arrangements now and in the future, the Supreme Daytan People's Council wishes to propose that a Regional Defence Committee be established to manage liaisons and joint operations between the armed forces of all Central Asian nations. The initial membership would be representatives from:

The Democratic Republic of Daytanistan
The Republic of Assurayah
The Chivik People's Liberation Forum (the provisional government of the liberated areas of Chivikistan)

Other Central Asian representatives may be admitted to the Regional Defence Committee as needs be. Admittance to the committee will be by consent of all committee members only. The Supreme Daytan People's Council is willing to provide and resource a headquarters for the Regional Defence Committee in the city of Koobal, in the Socialist Province of Kashoun.

I look forward to your reply, and once again, thank you for the ongoing solidarity of the Assur workers and nation!

With socialist greetings,

Amad Noosh
Supreme People's Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Literature, and Sports

Tao Sh-Xong, on behalf of the Chivik People's Liberation Forum and the Chivik People's Liberation Army, has taken the trouble to return to Daytanistan, traveling on foot and by sedan chair across 700km of steppe and mountains to associate the Chivikistani revolution with its like-minded neighbours through the proposed Regional Defence Committee.

Comrade Tao came bearing confirmation of the great victory won by Comrade Hma Uqemot's II Corps Chivik People's Liberation Army against the Sacred Combine's noted General Dzje Aip Qying and his Army of the Delta, in the strategic Central Tszinqi Passes. With these passes in CPLA hands, Tao reports, Outer Tszinqi is essentially impregnable from the government side, and a de facto state of independent Communist administration is secured.

OOC: I realize that Soufrika was just pulling stuff out of his ass, but I was simply saying that IF there are religious extremists then we will respond. OOC: Like heck I was. The only armed extremists are mine—the Islamies Leër van Die Profeet—and they're offering logistical and military aid to their toothless Daytan brothers. Everyone clear on that now?

"As-Salamu Alayka."
"Alaykum As-Salamu." Omar al-Jannahi picked up a crowbar and, with a flourish, opened the first crate.
The Daytan men gasped as they saw the contents: dozens of Type 81-1 assault rifles and RPG-7s. One pointed at the latter and asked, "Are those...thermobaric warheads?"
Al-Jannahi nodded.
"Allah be praised!" giggled the man, homicidal glee evident in his bespectacled brown eyes. "I look forward to using one on a Socialist tank...or better yet, a crowd of infidels!" His companions smirked at the thought.
Al-Jannahi continued, "The rifles all come with drum magazines; you will be able to fire far more rounds."
"Splendid," replied another Daytan. "Now, help us load these, won't you, my friend?"
In eight minutes, the Daytans had loaded all six crates into the modified school bus and drove off into the hills.

De Haven watched the bus depart. "Assegai One to Hiëna, how copy, over?" he spoke into his lip mike.
"Hiëna, Assegai One. We copy, over."
"Sitrep on Karuchean intervention, over?" asked the sergeant.
"We have no contact with Karuchean forces so far, but drones have spotted Volzgradien landing force inbound. Estimate troop strength ten-thousand-plus, over."
SGT de Haven's jaw dropped.
The chopper pilot continued, "VAH-67s are with us to provide support. The terrain is making flying below radar coverage difficult, over." VAH-67 Commandos were Soufrikan copies of the canceled RAH-66 Comanche. If those were being thrown into the mix, they must be in big trouble.
"Have you been detected, over?"
"Unknown, over."
"We have intel on ILDP and will proceed to clearing three klicks south-southwest of our current position. Pick us up there, over."
"Copy. Out."
De Haven waved to the team, and they wearily began the long march to the extraction point. God only knew what could happen on the way.

OOC: I've got a bad feeling about this...

SAM Battery 563
Somewhere in the Socialist Province of Parshea
The ground radar stations only picked up very faint signals when they picked them up at all, as the helicopters hovered just above and just below the lower bound of effective radar coverage. However, in the current climate, even low potential threats were treated as a matter of urgency. There were no authorised civilian flights in the area, and so the Colonel in command of Daytan People's Army SAM Battalion 38-KH authorised the firing of semi-active homing surface-to-air missiles as soon as enough of the ground radar stations had detected the helicopters to determine their position.

Battery 563 fired six missiles at each helicopter. Each of the missiles was equipped with on-board radar and also received directions from ground radar stations. These directions guided them to the general vicinity of the helicopters, at which point the on-board guidance radar became much more useful. As its detection cone extended from the front of the missile, the altitude became a lesser factor. The missiles raced towards their targets, screaming death whistling through the air.

As the NH-1Y called Hiëna cruised over yet another rocky incline, a light on the instruments panel began flashing. At the same time, an alarm screeched into the pilots' ears while their heads-up displays outlined numerous objects in red diamonds. The men counted in a heartbeat: Onetwothreefourfivesixseven...oh my God.
"INCOMING MISSILES!" The pilot yanked on the stick and the co-pilot pressed various buttons to activate countermeasures, but what could chaff and jamming do against six missiles per chopper? Meanwhile, the three VAH-67s were reversing as fast as they could, firing their cannons and air-to-air missiles. Several of the Daytan missiles exploded and a few hit the chaff, but the Soufrikan airmen couldn't get them all. The pilots of one Commando managed to eject before their 'copter was hit; the other helicopters weren't so fortunate. As the men watched the flaming birds plummet to the rocks, one somberly relayed the news: "RECCOM, this is Lion Three. All units are down, repeat, all units down. No other survivors."
Iansisle
29-08-2008, 20:26
Like every other government building in Iansisle, the press office of #3 Jameston Place was awash in the patriotic regalia of the Republic. Gull Flags hung from the ceiling and ten of them flanked the podium, which was adorned with heroic portraits of Citizen-Martyr Bradsworth and President Ranalte. Currently, Director of Foreign Affairs Rinehart was addressing a full session of reporters, both international and domestic. Granted, much of the information that would be made available on the Shield would come through the government-owned and tightly censored Iansislean International Telegraph Corporation, but these displays of the 'freedom of the press' were important to maintain the façade of democracy in the Republic.

"And the government has no comment on the leaked NIO reports of Effitian aerodromes being constructed in Dront?

"I believe I have been quite clear on that point, Jim," said Rinehart. "I am in contact with the Pater's ambassador, who assures me that such rumors are incorrect. Their Senate has agreed to let us conduct investigations across the Demilitarized Zone and, if fortifications in violation of the Jaizar Accords are found, the government will take appropriate actions. In the mean time, however, we have no reason to suspect that those bases exist. We are tracing the 'leak', but currently believe that it did not originate in the Naval Intelligence Office and is most likely a complete fabrication. Yes, Mr Hartman from -- the Star-Tribune, correct?"

"Yes, Director. Sir, I have a question about the 'cultural revolution' in Daytanistan. Does the foreign office have any reason to suspect that it will affect the current crisis in Chivikistan, and what ramifications it have on the stability of the region?"

"Yes, thank you, Mr Hartman. I had wanted to address that issue. While my office does not currently consider the Daytan government's actions a threat -- though I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that Daytanistan is still listed as a 'rogue nation' by the Federation at large, until such a time as they stop selling weapons to the Chivik rebels -- I am moved to condemn those interventionist states who would topple the Daytan government.

"While Daytanistan, in the eyes of the Iansislean Federation, is considered a great danger to the 'open door' policy in Chivikistan, it is the opinion of the President and myself that removing the government would only further destabilize the region, with untold consequences in both treasure and blood around the world. Therefore, I have been authorized by the all the presidents of the united republics of the Iansislean Federation to declare that any military action against the Daytan government will be considered an act of international aggression and, as is typical in such cases, will result in harsh trade sanctions against the aggressor nation and the freezing of their resources in Iansisle.

"We would, however, like to restate the Gull Flag Republic's objections to Daytanistan's continued support of the communist uprising in Chivikistan. We would prefer to see the Daytan government return to the path of responsibility and support the international initiative in restoring peace and order to the Combine. As has been amply proved in the past, however, the use of military force to topple a government does not aid in this process. Are there any other questions?"
