Drum & Bugle Corps World Tour IV Registration

Bluth Corporation
01-08-2008, 17:23
This is the official registration thread for the Alliance of Drum & Bugle Corps Associates World Tour IV. Registration will close midnight (US CDT) August 15, 2008.

If you wish to register, please read the Tour Rules (http://wikistates.outwardhosting.com/wiki/AIDBCA_World_Tour_Tour_Rules) and Performance Rules (http://wikistates.outwardhosting.com/wiki/AIDBCA_World_Tour_Performance_Rules) (most of these rules are just for IC show and don't have any actual effect, although you can use the performance rules if you want to RP a penalty for your corps and we DO enforce the rule about your lowest-placing corps from the previous tour may not participate) and then post the following information below for each corps you are entering:

Corps name
Title and brief description of your corps' program
Your corps' home city
Ranking of the five general judging captions (Auxiliary, Battery Percussion, Bugles, Marching & Maneuvering, and Sideline Percussion) in order from your corps's strongest to weakest caption

Remember, you may submit up to three corps to the tour.

You will also need to post a list of twice as many stadiums as corps you are entering (so if you're entering three corps, you'll need to post six stadiums). Of these, at least one for each entered corps must be designated as that corps' particular home show, and must be located in or relatively near to that corps's home city.

Not all of the stadiums you enter will necessarily be used (although the home show ones will), but we need to have the pool to choose from.

Competitions will begin August 15 and will run for three nights; after that, there will be three nights for Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals to determine the final champion; the precise format will depend upon how many entries we have.

The scoring will be done with a PHP/mySQL setup I've written and refined over the past few tours. No one's complained about the results it's produced so far, although if you have any suggestions over the course of this tour please bring them up and I'll consider implementing them for the next tour.

As before, corps will initially be seeded based on their placing in the last World Tour (based on the corps' individual placement, independent of where other corps from that country ended up); corps that did not participate in the last World Tour will be seeded last, in random order. This will be used solely for determination of initial scores.

Although there is no guarantee that the highest-seeded corps will have the highest initial score and so forth for the rest, the algorithm I use to generate initial scores biases the random numbers in that direction. And of course, after the first contest the seedings don't affect the scores at all.

If you really want to I can explain the workings of it in-depth.

As always, you can RP your corps' performance for a bonus.

As many of you know, I am in real life an instructor for a high school marching band program. Our second band camp begins this Sunday, so I will be gone from Sunday afternoon until next Saturday afternoon (August 9). If you register in that time span, I will update the registration list with your entries as soon as I return. Additionally, if someone could perform an occasional bump every couple of days or so on this thread, I'd greatly appreciate it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll be more than happy to answer, and if you ask while I'm gone I'm sure the participants in previous tours can help you out as well.

Although it's not strictly in-character to use real-world music for our drum & bugle corps shows, we typically do it anyway just to make it easier to visualize the programs.

Last time we had ten corps from four nations participating; let's see if we can't build on that this time. Tell your friends!

OoC: I KNOW. WHAT THE FRACK HAPPENED. PHANTOM, WHAT?!?

There I was, sitting in my Police Car in this little alleyway near a four-lane highway. I was on my department notebook as I was "filling reports" and watched the scores announced, I hit my dashboard in anger/frustration/surprise, activating my siren scaring two cars and the nearby homes at the time of night.

It was hilarious. I'm still angry. The alumni are/will be PISSED.

WHAT?!?
