AIDBCA World Tour III SCORES/RP/SCHEDULE

The schedule for World Tour III has been posted at http://wikistates.outwardhosting.com/wiki/AIDBCA_World_Tour_III_Schedule

The main article for the Tour, which includes the current medal count as well as links to the schedule and recaps page, is at http://wikistates.outwardhosting.com/wiki/AIDBCA_World_Tour_III

I never got stadium entries from Alliance Star, so I went ahead and substituted a couple of my unused stadiums in...Alliance Star, if you want to go ahead and give me a stadium list (I need two), I'll go ahead and replace them--even if the show's already taken place!

In the future to avoid this, I think I'm just going to have entrants post their stadium entries with their corps entries. Unless we have fewer than ten entrants, the number of stadiums needed will never be more than twice the number of entered corps, so I'll just have everyone give twice as many stadiums as they have entries; if we have fewer than ten entries I'll just go ahead and add some of my own to fill in the remainder.

First scores will be posted later tonight.

Showdown in Khlysty as the home corps took victory by a tenth of a point-a far cry from the Lipscomb Bowl, where the Brigadiers began their title defense by finishing more than two points ahead of the Fadron Gang while the Gridlockers shuffled to a fourth-place finish.

Back to Khlysty, then. The Shadow Runners ultimately finished second, led as usual by the expressive bugle section, apparently playing a drum corps standard. We wouldn't know. Drum and bugle corps have failed to make inroads in Zwangzug since the last contest-or have they? Quiet Canbix finds itself among the circuit's elite, and Tarang County has overenthusiastically mustered up the energy to send a corps. The lack of marching ability could be a problem, though.

At any rate, Haydensky have seemingly abandoned their attempts to cater to the masses-note their home show in the suburb of Elapinta, where they actually are located, rather than the vastly larger city of Arlington-and tackled their metrically demanding pieces skillfully. They took the majority of caption awards handed out at The Stadium. And still came in third. Hmm.

The Gridlockers take their first medal of tour III on home turf, sideline percussion leading them to victory. "The auxiliary percussion was really in high gear," notes a glockenspiel player. "Lots of cool solo sounds, they were quite impressive."

No home-field advantage down in Bassabook though, as Taeshan's corps dominated. "I was hoping we'd get to see Hallowed Ground," an older fan commented afterward, "but the Legion was impressive, and I suppose the others too."

The defending champion Brigadiers suffered from a second straight night of declining scores. "Our show's getting better and better at every rehearsal, it really is," remarked ageout mellophone player and corps horn sergeant Jared Hardiman, "but it doesn't matter because every time we go out it's like we pull a Tom Brady or something. Our run-through today before we left for the stadium would have broken 70 easily...I don't know what's wrong with us!" Corps director Darrin Lasley was less despondent: "We've got a young group here, and no amount of rehearsal can prepare you for performing in a huge stadium in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans. You've just got to get used to it, and no doubt we will. The win the first two nights out was a big confidence booster; and the fact that our scores have dropped two shows in a row but we've still medaled at all of them says volumes. We'll be fine, and we'll be right back where we belong before it's all over."

Legion of the Red Shield, meanwhile, has been established itself as not only the dominant Bluth Corporation corps this year, but the dominant corps period. A first-place finished coupled with a third-place finish from the Brigadiers put them at the top of the medal count three shows in.

World Tour newcomer Hallowed Ground, meanwhile, saw their score drop, resulting in a disappointing fifth-place finish after shocking everyone by capturing the silver medal at their previous show. Like the Brigadiers, however, Hallowed Ground is also a young corps, and stands to benefit just from the experience.

The Brigadiers ended their slide, boosting their score by over two points last night at Melrosepark Stadium. That wasn't enough to keep them out of fourth place, though; the finish dropped them to fourth in the medal count. Still, the corps was generally pleased. "We've turned the corner," remarked one cymbal player, "and now we can work back to where we belong."

Hallowed Ground finished fifth at Isheam Stadium; though Bluth Corporation's newcomer is currently ranked seventh in the medal count, their scores have been largely consistent with those of Bluth Corporation powerhouse Brigadiers', but have suffered in the medal count due to facing stronger competition.

Legion of the Red Shield, meanwhile, improved its score by a full point from the last show. Their second-place finish to Taeshan's Fadron Gang, along with a first-place finish by Hockey Playin' Nuts at the other show, puts them currently in a tie for first place in the medal count.

Varied results all around as the Gridlockers continue to make a name for themselves. With a couple of silver and bronze medals, they've outperformed the more veteran Shadow Runners, with just a single bronze medal to their name, and former champions Haydensky, albeit by a single medal point.

Perhaps heartening is the Taeshan corps' success: they've combined crowd-pleasing tunes with critical acclaim. "The Nuts were awesome," comments a fan at Lioglade.

The Shadow Runners are just the one point off the playoffs, of course, and there's room for plenty to change. Tied with them at the bottom are the Alliance Star's sole representative. Perhaps as the summer rolls into autumn, there will be more corps to see and hear from around the world. Until then, the beat clicks on.

(OOC: Probably the last you'll hear from me this tournament, but thanks as always for hosting.)

Local Drum and Bugle Corps, stumbles and falls on the International stage
Monday July 21 1:47 PM ET

PORTHOS (AP)- It was indeed a odd year for the Alliance Star Confederation. The first of their Drum Corps to compete in an international stage, showed the nation's relation to the rest of the world as a follower and not of that of a qualifying Corps. The Director of the Corps, Stephen Alia, commented, "We're nailing our sets and surprisingly taking caption scores for our sideline percussion, but we're just not making par with other competing Corps in the terms of musicality, and overall performance," as the Corps as only medaled, once.

The Director has taken great strides in order to attempt to compensate for the lack of musicality on the field as the ever present overbearing of the High Brass against the Contras causing timing issues that the battery had no chance to counter.

In their recent show, it was better than it had been, the Corps finished in last place, though taking home captions in Marching and Maneuvering and their Frontline Percussion. During the show, in the movement known as "American Elegy" Sabers could just not be caught all night as the Color Guard simply died on the field. A Snare also broke a stick in mid-performance, and again the High Brass and the Contras just could not stay together leaving the Drum Major out to dry. Blue Wave's rival Corps, who opted out to play in their domestic circuit, the Silver Knights Director, Thomas Ivey, commented that, "They can march. Maybe, they should just play a CD or let their Frontline Percussion play, and get rid of the color guard, and they'd have a chance."

Last year, Blue Wave finished second to their rival, the 6-time champion, and record holder of such, the Silver Knights, in their domestic circuit, and with the choice of the Silver Knights to try the domestic tour once more, the Blue Wave jumped at the opportunity to compete internationally. Blue Wave normally preformed much more adequately than their current state, yet just couldn’t manage to grasp their own show.

Blue Wave's Tour Ends, in last place
Saturday September 26 8:28 AM GMT

PORTHOS (AP)- After only gaining two points during their entire tour, there is no hope in sight for the Drum and Bugle Corps whom is on the historical tour. With only two points, and tied in dead last of the Corps rankings, the Drum and Bugle Corps known as Blue Wave is preparing for its final show.

"We are sorry to embarrass our nation. We went out, being bigger than we thought, and our egos defeated us in the end," Lead Mellophone player Zach Thomas stated, when interviewed after their performance. "We just can't seem to come together." Blue Wave, a two-time domestic circuit champion in the Alliance Star Confederation, has never scored so low in their entire history, until this year.

"We're making history," states director Stephen Alia, "too bad it's nothing that we want to remember." The Corps are now rumored to withdraw from this circuit, after this performance, and to be replaced by current domestic titleholder the Silver Knights. The circuit is however considering sponsoring both in the return circuit, when the new season starts. This also notes that the Alliance Star Confederation would indeed be joining the AIDBCA as a full member, pending acceptance of the AIDBCA of their request to join.

Simply to say, for their first year, the Blue Wave have indeed made fools of themselves on the international circuit, and that title will be with them for years to come.
