Zongguo can only participate if the tourney starts after Thursday, July 24. I'm going on vacation, and so won't have consistent internet access. If this isn't possible, then I'll regretfully have to withdraw.

That's eight. I think it's easiest to close the signups here and start a tournament with two groups of four, top two to the semi-finals.

Going to keep signups open for four more...

a 12-team tournament would be two groups of six, playing each other once.Top four to the quarter-finals, which are seeded by group placement (so a group winner and a fourth-placed team will meet each other, etc).

We are hearing rumours of a possible Lacrosse team being formed.
Lacrosse has never been played before in Land de Wood (which is not surprising as the nation is still very young) however, a chance to sign on the world stage is on offer for anyone who is even half-decent at the game.

Land de Wood would welcome any help others are able to provide at this new sport which as previously mentioned not be known to us before, sure we've heard the odd rumour of it from far away lands.

I'm sure our prime minister Andrew Wood would be delighted to speak to anyone who is able to help us with this interesting sport.

With prime minister Andrew Wood away on important national business [at the Oxen Cup] we are delighted to interview James Mord, our sports minister.

Kerry: Good evening minister, we hear that we are to play at the world Lacrosse tournament soon.
James: Thank you Kerry, Yes we are all very excited about the opportunity to take part in this sport.
Kerry: So do you know how to play Lacrosse?
James: Well no, not me personally but then I'm not going to be in the team or managing it, so there's no worries there.
Kerry: Yes, but have you actually found someone who knows how to play the game to manage the team?
James: Well as I'm sure you realise, at this early stage, I would not want to put up too many barriers to jobs. I'm sure you realise that we as a nation can not start discriminating against people.
Kerry: But isn't it important for the manager to know how to play the game?
James: Well of course I would agree it would be helpful, you know, most of these sports are all the same really, and I'm sure that it would be fairly easy to pick up?
Kerry: Ah ok, well yes I guess, but what about some players?
James: Well again it is early days, we are still at the beginning of a long process, you know Rome wasn't built in a day.
Kerry: But do we actually have anyone who knows how to play the game?
James: Well I'm sure someone in our fine nation knows how to play the game, it is surely only a few days before we find that someone, or indeed that someone puts themselves forward.
Kerry: So you can guarantee to the nation and indeed to the organisers that a team will be found who knows how to play the game.
James: Well of course I couldn't possibly give any such guarantee but I am of course confident, in fact make that highly confident of getting a team together.
Kerry: Yes but minister, will they actually know how to play the game?
James: Well I'm sure they'll work it out one way or another.
Kerry: Have you thought about getting a foreign coach in?
James: Well now hold on a moment, we can't just give jobs away to foreigners before we are sure there is not someone already willing to do the job.
Kerry: But doesn't that someone have to know how to play the game?
James: Well as I've said before that would be helpful but we can't start discriminating against people just because they don't know stuff.
Kerry: Hmm ok, well what if say a foreign manager was to offer to come and help us on a volunteer basis.
James: Well of course now if they were to come as a volunteer who would we be to refuse them, I mean that might offend their home nation and affect our trade agreements. But of course we would be more than willing to accept any help that should be offered.
Kerry: Thank you minister you have as always been most informative.
James: Always happy to help.

So there you have it folks, our sports minister is highly confident of getting a team together in time for the Lacrosse world championships. Whether that team knows how to play the game or not, doesn't seem to important to him.

Zongguo is pleased to announce that it will officially be sending a national side to represent the Holy Empire, as mentioned before as long as the competition begins no earlier than July 24 (real time).

As the Holy Empire has no professional league, or even scholastic teams, its national side will be made up of military personnel familiar with the sport.

We have ten, which is a manageable number for two groups of five - winners to semi-finals, second and third meet in an elimination round.

I will close signups on Tuesday at 2200 UTC (2300 BST, 1800 Eastern, 1500 Pacific) or when there are twelve teams. If there are eleven at that point, I shall either create a puppet nation to fill the gap, or just have uneven groups.

We're done!

Draw takes place on the 24th at 2000 UTC (2100 BST, 1600 Eastern), with scorination every day from the 25th at that time.

Two groups of five, winners to semi-final, second and third play off in the 'repechage round'. The tournament will be finished on the 31st.

IF you wish - it is an if - you may provide a style modifier for your team, any value between -1.5 and +1.5. This denotes the number of additional goals that both you and your opponent will score - it has no effect whatsoever on the probability of winning. Defensive teams should go for minus numbers.

Kura-Pelland will use a -0.1093 style modifier.

Oh we have nine. Darn! Knew I'd mess up somewhere.

But I'm sure I can snaffle a random tenth from #nssport...
