Redfield was an average student and an exceptional fieldball player, becomeing captain of his high-school team. He was raised in a quasi-religious hosehold: Eugæus Redfield was a Unitarian who attended services on occasion, and his mother was a passive Coscivian Theist. His interest in Christianity was sparked when his friend Malavé Scúmetari, after causing an accidental pregnancy, married another friend of Redfield's in Holnisar's Catholic church, St. Anselm's, to which Redfield was invited. He began attending masses, and was baptised some time after. He attended Valway Provincial Seminary, and was ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Valëka.
However, after Eugæus Redfield died in a workplace accident, Evenur was called upon to support his mother and sister. He joined the Imperial Military and was trained in Corlem Province. His first combat assignment was securing the Kontar'i Protectorate in Nova from foreign agression, and then putting down a rebellion in the Javaeda Colony. He was discharged honourably into the reserve forces after his enlistment, but volunteered to fight again in Tatarystan and the New True Cross.
