BoF29: THE PHOENIX CUP - BID THREAD

Background & History

Krytenia, let's face it, have hosted practically every football tournament in the NSverse. All except one, that is. And with the nation itself emerging from the flames of tyranny, what better place to receive a fiery baptism?

That is the thought behind this bid, a phoenix rising from the flame, and a flame to test the new teams. A chance for debutantes to gain a foothold in the international world, make new friends, and play some football. And who knows, maybe we'll see the next Sarzonia or Newmanistan.

Format

In setting up, each stadium to be used will be named and described with its capacity, home team(s) and history, along with any notable events that have taken place there. Krytenian referees will be put forward for each match, each with their own take on how football is to be played within the available rules. All possible help and advice will be available to each competitor via Telegram or other standard method of communication. All participants will receive Telegrams informing them of the Baptism of Fire, directing them to appropriate locations and making advice readily available.

In the first round, the teams will be split into one, two or four groups of equal size, depending on number of entrants, and drawn at random. Four, eight, or sixteen teams will advance to the knockout phase (again depending on numbers).

For the second round, the advancing teams will go forward into seeded pairings based on group placings. Knock-out matches will proceed as normal, with two periods of 15 minutes for Extra Time and, if no winner has emerged at the end, a penalty shoot-out. All the teams who have progressed to the second round will play until each has a final finishing position, giving a Final as well as Third-, Fifth- and possibly Seventh-Place Play-offs.

The DBC Scorinator, as used in BoF27, will be used again here.

Bonuses

The KFA will award bonuses based on the following criteria:

Entertainment, Realism, Creativity, Humour, Individuality, Variation, Story-lines, Rivalries, Inter-team participation and Use of available information.

In addition, there will be Double-Bonus Matchdays, in which a team's participation will count double for that Matchday, a scheme used in BoF27.

Conclusion

With the Krytenian bid for the BoF, we feel that the future of the tournament, and the "Class of 42", will be in safe and reliable hands.

A few questions of importance to numerous readers:

What is the policy of the host concerning CtE nations?
Do the hosts have contingency plans for inevitable quirks (such as countries randomly deciding that they don't belong in the BoF half-way through the tournament, etc.) that may or may not occur during the tournament?
What is the one thing that should be improved in the BoF tournament in general for future reference?
What is the host/s official policy of puppets of existing countries?
What specifically makes this bid stronger than the other bids?

What is the policy of the host concerning CtE nations?
CtE nations will be removed from the competition immediately (I will make a note pre-tournament how long since logins, and check back as required), and their records will be expunged. I would also lobby the WCC to not include them on the KPB rankings, allowing them a second chance at competing should they ever be resurrected.

If a "Sel Appa" occurs, the above plan will still be used.

Oddness will be taken on a case by case basis. Voluntary withdrawals will incur 3-0 walkovers in remaining games - this includes any knockouts.
What is the one thing that should be improved in the BoF tournament in general for future reference?
The return of a semi-permanent co-host and new-blood co-host arrangement of previous cups, to help counter the dearth of World Cup bids at present.

What is the host/s official policy of puppets of existing countries?
Puppets will be permitted. Krytenia will enter a puppet; said puppet's matches will be scorinated by Starblaydia (TBC) should the bid be successful.

What specifically makes this bid stronger than the other bids?
Look at the signature on the bottom. That's the level of hosting experience available. Look at the scorinator being used, then look at the Di Bradini Cup. BoFXXIX in Krytenia will be the greatest little tournament in history*.

*Not a guarantee.

That is true.
