Qazoxian Sports Festival

Qazox
01-07-2008, 04:50
The Qazoxian National Association of Fringe Sports or QNAFS is pleased that funding for the First Qazox Sports Festival has been approved and is also pleased to open up limited sign-ups for the events.

All of these sports are played in Qazox, but usually at either a intramural level in college or rec-club level post-college. The total number of foreign players/teams are limited to 14 in each event, while a maximum of 4 teams/players from Qazox will be allowed in each event. Qazox will send a mininum of 2 teams to the festival.

The Qazoxian Sports Festival will feature the following sports:

Volleyball (men's indoor)
Volleyball (men's beach)
Volleyball (women's indoor)
Volleyball (women's beach)
Water Polo (men's)
Golf (men's)
Golf (women's)
Field hockey (women's)

The team Maximum limits are as follows:
Volleyball (indoor)- team of 6 players and 2 subs.
Volleyball (Beach)- team of 2 players.
Water Polo- team of 7 players and 3 subs.
Field hockey- team of 11 players and 5 subs.
Golf- 2 players (1 male, 1 female)

All events will be round-robin, except for golf. If the maximum number of teams (16) is reached, there will be 2 groups of 8, with the best records in each group facing off for the championship.

The golf events will consist of 3 types of matches:

The first will be a 3-round single player stroke-play event in which the lowest total score, with a 3-hole playoff in case of a tie for first after 54 holes, wins.

The second will be a team event, 3-round best ball stroke play, with the lowest total score, with a 3-hole playoff in case of a tie for first after 54 holes, wins.

The third event will be team match-play, a single-elimination tourney.

The Volleyball (indoor) will be best 2 of 3 sets, playing to 25 with the must-win-by-2 rule in effect (ie: if you lead 25-24, you must get 26 to win); with the 3rd set playing to 15.

The Volleyball (beach) will be best 2-of-3 sets, playing to 21 with the must-win-by-2 rule in effect.

Both Water Polo and Field Hockey will have draws, if overtime does not determine a winner. Each of these events will have the golden goal in effect (ie: first one to score in OT wins).

A complete list of venues will be provided before the competition starts.

Just because I personally love volleyball, we will sending an entry in:
Women's Indoor Volleyball & Women's Beach Volleyball.

Other then that with the CoH and eventual World Bowl & Oxen Cup on the horizon, I can't get too involved in this time wise.

Nah, I think I'm going to try to avoid pre-World Bowl 2 burnout. But the thought of women's volleyball interests me in the pants/mid-pant region. :p

04-07-2008, 01:09
The West Zirconian Women's Open Golf Championship is currently taking place at Stanton Vale, with the men's Open being held at Royal Markham soon afterwards. The winners of these two competitions shall constitute West Zirconia's golf team.

Although this will be West Zirconia's only entry, we hope that other sports will be developed enough to send West Zirconian teams to future sporting festivals.

This paper was surprised to learn that on MD2 of the Volleyball (women's indoor) Land de Wood (team 5) will play both team 4 (Taeshan) and team 1 (Qazox A). We appreicate that organising the fixtures is never an easy task however, could we suggest that team 2(Green wombat) should be playing team1 (Qazox A) on that day.

Why go to the Qazox Sports Festival?

For one, it gives the newly created GOC (Green wombat Olympic Council) a chance to see how a multi-national, mulit-event competition is contested before the real Olympic games start in 6 months.

So why not send the teams competing at this festival to the Olympics?

One word: MONEY. The GOC only has enough money to send the track and field, Diving and swimming teams to SLANI, but the QSF only costs the price of a bus ticket to the events. And, in the events to be competed at the QSF, Green wombat has little to no international experience, while the teams going to the Olympics have competed in international events before.

So this is a trial run not just for this upcoming Olympiad, but for future ones as well.
West Zirconia
10-07-2008, 18:34
The Women's Open at Stanton Vale was pretty much sown up, barring last-round disaster, by the third round, the leader Laura Scott eventually winning with an overall thirteen under par, eight shots ahead of joint second-placed Ruth Chappell and Helena Markowska.

It was a much closer affair at Royal Markham, where the Men's Open was only settled on the last hole. Paul Humphreys and Andy Thomas were tied on eight under par going into the 18th. Two excellent shots from both players saw Humphreys on the green, and Thomas just outside. Humphreys holed in two putts, leaving Thomas with a difficult, though not impossible task. What neither player - nor, indeed, the Markham crowd - was expecting was for Thomas' chip not only to reach the hole, but to fall down it, giving Thomas victory by just one shot.

Therefore the West Zirconian golf team will consist of Andy Thomas (+1) and Laura Scott (-1).

OOC:I'm confused, which number is my team?

For Women's beach Volleyball you are #3 in Pool A; for Women's Water Polo, you are #4 in Pool B, hope that helps. (Usually the order the teams are listed respond to the numbers, ie: 1st team listed is #1, 2nd team is #2, etc.)

Our modifier for everything is to be a nice and neutral zero.

We would like to remind everyone that the people chosen to represent Secristan in these events, are not necessarily the best players or athletes in that respective sport. Instead, with the exception of women’s beach volleyball, they are those who bid the highest to earn the spot. That said they are not bums off the street either, and in order for their bids to be valid, they had to be between 18 and 38 and have at least one year of professional experience in the sport in which they bid for. For women’s beach volleyball, the two ladies were chosen from a list of 50 possibilities from the nation’s leading adult entertainment website.

THE ROCKET REPORT

K-Mac Wants to Make Her Own Name

Qazox- It’s not always easy to be a younger sibling of someone who has reached an enormous level of fame. Her big brother, Jeremy, is one of the Empire’s best ever world football players, who has won a Di Bradini Cup and a Baptism of Fire Trophy in his young career. His Putnam Lake Eagles still have not won a NPL championship, but they are getting closer, finishing 2nd last year. She lives in a mansion, purchased for her by her brother. But still, 20-year old Katie McAllister would like to have her own successes. Like her brother, Katie has been blessed with an outstanding physical appearance with great height which has landed her some modeling deals. But Katie is an athlete too, she played a little football herself, but there was one sport she was always better at. Volleyball. But not in a gym, on a beach.

Katie began playing beach volleyball professionally when she turned 19 years old, and was paired with an equally young Britney Phillips. Phillips, too, is a recognizable last name in Newmanistan, as the nation’s most successful regional stock car driver of all time is a Phillips. But Britney is of no relation to Erica Phillips in the stock car. She is her own person, wanting to get her own fame. Being paired with Katie McAllister certainly made people think that this was a sibling dream team. Katie and Britney, being attractive women playing beach volleyball, have appeared in several commercials with seem to want to sell their bodies more then their actual product. That’s all fine, and they do enjoy the limelight that their appearance brings, but they want more. Especially Katie. Burning deep inside her is the passion of an athlete, not just the little sister of a bigger name, and just someone who is pleasant on the eyes to look at. Jenn Murphy, herself a great female athlete sat down with Katie, after her and Phillips teamed up to defeat Green wombat’s ladies by the score of 21-18, 21-15.

JM: I’m here in Qazox with Katie McAllister, half of Newmanistan’s beach volleyball team. Congratulations on the win today.

KM: Thanks, Jenn.

JM: So, here you are in Qazox, how does it feel to have the chance to represent your country personally after watching your brother do it?

KM: It’s an honor, I am really proud to represent Newmanistan.

JM: Beach volleyball isn’t a sport that is regarded as highly as football, or many other sports, but you have to work at your trade just as hard as anyone else, don’t you?

KM: Well, you have to work hard. It’s like any other sport where you have to train and practice, keep in great shape, and then know the tendencies of your opponents in order to have success. I’m not going to compare it to football, but you have to be good to compete at this level.

JM: Women’s beach volleyball players normally become more well known for their appearance then for their talent. Do you ever wish that could be different?

KM: Sometimes, but the fact is, if we’re not attractive and if we’re not wearing skimpy bikinis, no one probably really cares.

JM: You’re in Qazox representing your country, and you still can’t escape your brother, who’s also here for the Oxen Cup. Figures, right?

KM: Yeah, but it’s good too for our family, they can watch both of us.

JM: Who gets priority?

KM: Well, Jeremy, obviously (laughs). But not all of our games are on the same day, so they can catch some of my games too. Jeremy will try to make one of my matches, but I don’t really expect him too.

JM: Will you make one of his games?

KM: I don’t think so. If I can, I will, but I need to be here. And I want to just enjoy this moment for myself too, ya know. On my free time to see Qazox, because football players play in other countries all the time, beach volleyball players, not as much so. I’ve been to a lot of Jeremy’s games. He does have my full support, and I have his.

JM: When did you start playing with Britney Phillips?

KM: At a charity event in Putnam Lake for breast cancer awareness. We won the competition pretty easily, and after it we both thought we were a good match together, and played alongside each other in other tournaments, and we knew that we were a natural pair.

JM: So, can you win this competition?

KM: I don’t see why not. I don’t think any of us are really that familiar with anyone in this competition, so it’s just going to come down to who wants it more. I know Britney and I want it pretty badly.

JM: Well Katie, thank you for your time, and good luck in Qazox!

KM: Thank you very much Jenn!

While our football team may have got thrashed by the Oxen Cup reigning champions we are pleased to report our field hockey team faired a lot better.
Paired in their first game with fellow debutants ameriganastan, an exciting game was promised.
Our ladies got of to a fantastic start with Natalia Green racing down the ring and playing the ball into Cherry Putter who knocked it into the net. 1-0 up and only 5 minutes gone things are looking good.
However, our ladies got complacent and within 10 minutes Ameriganastan had equalised and another 5 minutes and they were leading 2-1. 20 minutes gone and losing 2-1, Emily Jones tried to calm her team down.
Natalia Green found herself in space and made good progress down the wing, she knocked it into the centre, and there was Pauline Chicken to knock it into the back of the net and level the scores. 2-2, 25 minutes gone.
With renewed confidence, our ladies, took the game to their opponents with in 10 minutes, Pauline Chicken had knocked in another 2 goals, thanks to good work from Emma Light and Emily Sack, 4-2 as the players went in for half time. Things were looking good for our ladies.
The second half started even better with Alice Jackson knocking in after just 2 minutes, 5-2.
After 10 minutes of the 2nd half, Danielle Conway who had been brought on for 3 goal star Pauline Chicken, was set up by Natalia Green to make it 6-2.
Were our ladies heading for double figures?
Alas it was not to be Ameriganastan had reorgansied themselves and put up a more solid performance for the next 25 minutes, knocking in another consolation goal themselves, as the game ended 6-3.

All in all, a great performance from our ladies, ok they may have taken their foot of the gas in the 2nd half, but I think they can be allowed that when winning 6-2.

So on to our next game, with high hopes of victory.

The first day of the Qazoxian Sports Festival came and went and Green wombat did rather decently winning 4 of 6 team events and in golf, Tod Katsbulas struggled to a 5-over 76. Katsbulas double-bogeyed 16 and 17, dropping him from 2nd place to 9th. On the women's side, Jesusita Wernicki is tied for 5th at 1-under 71, after an hole-in-one on the 18th hole, so far the only ace on the women's side.

The big news was the men's volleyball teams as they won both their indoor and the beach events over Taeshan and Lovisa respectively. The women's teams didn't fare as well, losing to Lovisa indoors and Newmnaistan on the beach.

In water polo, Chauncey Martyr scored 5 golas, leading the Wombats over the University of Fromburg 11-7. In field hockey, the Lady Wombats defeated the University of Qazox-Las Vitas 7-3, as Tonia Turrigiano and Sherlene Uson each scored twice and had 2 assitsts.

Day two of the Qazoxian Sports Festival has finished and Green wombat is in contention in all events still.

Opening up the day was a loss to Prux in Men's indoor Volleyball in straight sets, though the first was tied 23-all, before Prux put it away. On the women's side, a long 2nd set vs. the University of Fromburg finally ended when Lecia Dwane spiked home a winner, giving the team a 29-28 lead, then an ace by Laine Stimpert won the match. On the sand, Tanner Westermeier and Chauncey Klaers edged Taeshan's pair in both games 21-19. For the women, Jestine Incorvaia and Gia McGready won the first set vs, Cafundeu 21-15 and lead 19-17 in the second, before falling three sets to the pre-festival favorites.

In water polo, the men edged out Lovisa 8-7, to remain perfect, while the ladies of field hockey were out classed by Land de Wood 9-6.

On the links, Tod Katsbulas is now 10 shots off the pace with just one round left, while Jesusita Wernicki is 7 shots back, in 7th. So lokks like no individual golf medal for us.

Our field hockey team goes from strength to strength

Well what can I say, never mind the fact our football team got their first point in international football, today's news is all about the ladies.
Our field hockey team have won their second game in a row!

Up against the Green Wombats who beat University of Qazox-Las Vitas in their first game, our ladies showed some real class, knocking in no less than 9 goals to the Wombats 6.
Man of the match was undoubtedly Pauline Chicken, fresh from her 3 goals int the first game, she knocked in 4 more in this game. Natalia Green was again outstanding down the wing setting up 4 goals and even getting one herself. Alice Jackson also managed to knock in 2 goals and there was 1 each for Emma Light and Emily Sack. Meanwhile at the back things weren't so good. Theresa Green had a mare of a game making several mistakes to let the wombats in and was in the end replaced by Caroline Wilson, who we are hearing will take her place in the next group game.

Meanwhile our volleyball team were equally impressive. Beaten Taeshan in straight sets 25-21, 25-22. Hannah Post looked particularly useful

No doubt our prime minister Andrew Wood will be proud to know that while his footballers have only managed a loss and a draw, our ladies are shining high with 3 victories between the 2 teams.

A VIEW ABOUT 2 DAYS OF COMPETITION

After two days of competition, the Cafundelense teams involved in the Sports Festival in Qazox had good and bad results. Let's see and talk more about them:

First of all, the volleyball. Surely the sport that the supporters most want Cafundéu to win, and the one in which the country has most chances, being probably one of the favourites. So far, the results weren't exactly what the supporters expected, and some losses left the Cafundelenses thinking if the chosen teams were the right ones.

In indoor volleyball, the male team started with a win, but a loss in the second game against one of the Qazox teams worried the supporters. The female played only once, with a win. In beach volleyball, the male double is having a good campaign, with two wins, while the girls are already facing problems.

Now, to water polo. Not a sport famous in Cafundéu, so the team doesn't have much responsibility. Until now, a win and a loss.

Field hockey, in terms of popularity, is in the middle of volleyball and water polo (although much closer to water polo than to volleyball, which is a huge sport in the country). Until now, a good performance, with a win and a draw.

In golf, both of our players are in the middle of the tables, and will have to work harder in order to fight for the first position. Both Sabrina and Victor are placed fifth.

MIRED IN MEDIOCRITY

Off the heels of a successful International Basketball Championship that saw our nation reach ultimate glory, the Secristan Department of Sports decided to profit off of the Qazox Sports Festival too by having athletes bid to represent our country so they could compete in those sports. Television ratings have not been as high as they were hoping with only women’s beach volleyball getting a rating that would make the SDOS consider putting the games on pay-per-view. So now, they remain on free TV. Advertisers initially lined up to compete for segments, giving the contests about 35 minutes per hour that are in commercial time instead of actually in the event. This number is a bit of a disappointment though, as the SDOS was hoping they could grow that to about 45 minutes per hour that were commercials during the festival telecast.

For those actually caring about the performance of the athletes, and not just the earning potential, through two matchdays, it seems as though just about every team from Secristan has begun 1-1. The only teams not 1-1 are our men’s water polo and men’s beach volleyball team’s which are 0-2, and obviously spending too much time flaunting their wealth around the streets of Qazox instead of putting in the practice time needed to succeed. But that is perfectly acceptable. In golf, though, Secristan’s Jason Masterson sits on top of the leaderboard with a 2-under par 140 after the first two rounds. On the women’s green, Tessa Scordino is within striking range, just two strokes off the lead.

(Prior to the match- Newmanistan’s beach volleyball team- Brittany Phillips and Katie McAllister)

Brittany: Hey look, your brother’s here.

Katie: Where?

Brittany: That’s him over there (points), where all those people are trying to get autographs, I think there’s a lot of them here actually.

Katie: Figures, doesn’t it?

Brittany: What does?

Katie: At my game, more people want an autograph from Jeremy then from me. And from the rest of the team. One day, beach volleyball will be as big as football.

Brittany: Well, Katie, I don’t really think that will happen.

Katie: I know, but a girl can dream, can’t she?

(Referee whistles for match to begin. They complete the first set, losing 21-18)

Katie: That just sucked.

Brittany: Falling behind 8-0 didn’t help, I think you were too busy seeing when the line of people getting autographs from your brother would stop.

Katie: It’s just getting worse. No one’s even paying any attention to us. The Qazox fans are rooting for the Qazox people, and the Newmanistan fans are trying to get autographs from our football team that are in the stands. The neutral fans, have probably heard that our football team is here and are trying to get autographs too.

Brittany: Maybe we should do something to get their attention. Hold on.

(Brittany races up the stands to where the line of people are and appears to flash the Newmanistanian people. However, if you weren’t in the immediate vicinity, you wouldn’t have seen anything).

Referee: Let’s go. Now.

(Second set begins and ends)

Katie: I can’t believe you did that.

Brittany: Yeah well it worked, you hear everyone chanting our names during that set?

Katie: Yeah, it was pretty cool.

Brittany: Let’s never forget, that’s why we’re here. Not because we like volleyball. But because we’re hot.

Katie: Yeah I know, we did great in that set too. Now let’s finish them off!

(Sadly, they lose the third set, and fall to 1-1 in the group).

Fizzle Out?

-An Associated Press article

Aimee Derhaus and Kimberly Vervunhoc started out turning some heads. And not just because of their bikini-clad physiques at the Qazoxian Sports Festival after their first day win against Taeshan. However, since then the pair have dropped two of their games and are heading into a must-win situation. However, Aimee was optimistic saying "We'll return to form. Me and Kimmy haven't been playing our best, but we'll come back strong. I'm sure of it!" And Kimberly just echoed her partners statement.

Well, they certainly have our best wishes, but our confidence will have to be earned back.

Well our field hockey stars game up against the host nation's 2nd side today. And what a match it was. End to end, first half ended 2-2 with star Pauline Chicken getting a goal and Natalia Green who set her up also grabbed a goal herself. Second half started bright with an early goal by Alice Jackson putting us 3-2 up in 5 minutes. Our opponents were quick to respond with 2 goals in 5 minutes making it 3-4 after 10 minutes. Was this to be our team's first defeat? As the game neared the end, Emily Sack went on a solo run and made it 4-4 with a wonderful goal. Well our first points dropped but against the hosts we can't complain too much and we still look like qualifying.

Meanwhile our indoor volleyball stars enjoyed another day off.

Day three of the Qazoxian Sports Festival has finished and Green wombat has performed rather well.

In golf, not on of our better sports, Tod Katsbulas shot an even par 71 to finish at +8 for the tourney in 8th place, when kenavt's golfer triple bogied 17 to fall to 10 over. Jesusita Wernicki finsihed in a 3-way tie for 4th, when she lipped out a birdie putt on the 18th hole, which would have tied her with Secristan's Tessa Scordino for bronze. Wernicki had the best round of the day a 4-under par 68.

In volleyball, the men's indoor team is in 1st after the first half of the double round-robin defeating University of Fromburg (25-20, 25-22). The beach team lost for the first time, also against University of Fromburg (24-22, 21-15). On the women's side, the women's indoor team had a day off, while Tree Hugging Lesbians pushed the beach to to the brink of elimination (21-16, 21-17).

In water polo, Prux won in OT 7-6, despite 4 goals from Ddonn Luxon. But the team is still in first place. On the field hockey side, a 7-6 win over ameriganastan in OT keeps the team in 2nd place, trailing only Land de Wood.

Tommorrow is an off day for most of the competition, excepting Men's beach volleyball and women's indoor volleyball.

Day three has come and gone, and Qazox has a Medal! UQLV's David Schultz finished tied for 2nd in the individual men's golf event with Cafundeu's Victor Mattos Guerra. Secristan's Jason Masterson won, when Schultz missed a 14-ft par putt on his final hole, which would have sent it to a playoff for the gold medal.

Tommorrow is the light event day of the Festival, with only 2 competitons active.

JASON A TRUE “MASTER”

Jason Masterson won a gold medal on the links by firing a three under par 210, to win the competition in a romp, by a total of three strokes over a second place tie. Sadly, the Qazox press tried to lessen his accomplishment by claiming that their golfer, David Schultz, finished just a stroke behind. Furthermore, they claimed that Masterson won because their guy missed a 14-foot putt on the final hole that would have forced a playoff for the gold medal. Really, now? Well we understand that the whole world is not as brilliant us as when it comes to mathematics, but according to our calculations, Masterson’s 210 and Schultz’s 213 was a difference of three strokes. Why, oh why, must media outlets try to play with the facts just to make a story more exciting and increase hype value, we never know. Surely, we never do that in Secristan. By virtue of his gold medal, Masterson will receive 33% of his bid that he made to represent the country as our golfer. Jason has also signed a deal with a maker of golf clubs, that will certainly allow him to see a return on his investment. Masterson was happy with his medal, but was disappointed when he learned of the Lake Porter Free Press’ attempt to lessen his victory, “Well all I know is I won the gold medal very comfortably. It sucks that they have to say that though.” Exactly, Jason, exactly. We feel your pain. Tessa Scordino won a bronze, however by missing a 13-foot putt on the final hole, she lost her shot at forcing a playoff for the gold medal. Hey, if they can make up facts, we can too. But in order to be truthful, Tessa actually lost out on gold by three strokes. In our country, losing by three strokes doesn’t mean you almost forced a playoff missing a putt on the final hole. (OOC: Qazox, since you are little unfamiliar with us, note that our nation, and our press as a superiority complex over most other nations, so please take it in this context. Personally I know it was an honest mistake.)

In the other sports, most Secristan teams are still mired in mediocrity, however our men’s volleyball made those Qazox people pay for cheating Masterson of the true nature of his romp on the links, by beating them in three sets indoors and in two sets on the beach. The men’s indoor volleyball team carried that over with another victory over a bunch of green wombats. However, the women’s volleyball team had a disgraceful loss to Newmanistan.

Secristan is on top of the medal board. And the competition is now over. We win. Let’s go home. Alright, I suppose we’ll stay and finish it out. Secristan citizens who have made the trip are rumored to be planning a protest this morning outside the Lake Porter Free Press’ headquarters demanding a correction of the true Masterson margin of victory, as well as a formal apology to Masterson himself and to Secristan for their blatant attempt at shorting him, by saying he won because of another's missed putt.

ANOTHER 2 DAYS, ANOTHER REVIEW OF THEM

Two more days have passed in Qazox, and the Sports Festival continues. Cafundéu's populations had mixed reactions to the results of the first two days, which included some unwanted results in volleyball, but some nice surprises too. The two next days had much less action, but much more happiness for the Cafundelenses.

This happiness has a reason that is easy to explain: the Cafundelenses didn't lose a single game in these 2 days! Nothing that would surprise the volleyball fans, of course, which now say that the team has returned to play with full strength, but something that excites the water polo and field hockey fans, who are now more confident.

First, let's talk about the volleyball, our most popular sport after football and its young brother futsal. Our teams shone. The volleyball teams won all their games in these two days, showing their strength to everyone in Qazox and to their opponents. The standings still aren't exactly what the supporters are hoping for, in the truth. In the men volleyball, the team is in third! But in the beach, a perfect first place, showing the ability of our players. The women are playing well too, with a first place in the indoor volleyball and a second in the beach, due to a loss in the beginning of the competition.

In water polo, Cafundéu sits on the first place in the standings, something completely unexpected. Maybe we underestimated this team, which was ever the best university team of the country, but never seemed strong enough to compete in international competitions. Their performance in this Sports Festival proves otherwise.

In field hockey, Cafundéu holds the first place too. In this competition, the surprise isn't so big, as the ones that are really following the field hockey team say that this team has the capacity to compete for titles. So, for them, the girls are only showing what they can do, and should stay in the top for more time.

In golf, our player Victor Mattos Guerra got the second place in the competition, and won a silver medal. He commemorated drinking in a bar, and had to sleep there to avoid driving drunk.

While our field hockey team enjoyed a well deserved day off, our volley ball team were able to take centre stage.
Having won their first match our volley ball stars were ready for their game against Lovisa who likewise won their first game.
Our ladies performed well in the first set winning 25-23, depsite being 15-10 down at one point a brave fight back won them the set.
In the 2nd set we started strongly going 12-5 up at one point, but Lovisa fought back and won 25-22.
So two close sets there, won one each and so it was down to the final set.
Our ladies put in a good effort going 5-2 up at one point but then found themselves 10-5 down as Lovisa scored 8 without reply. Lovisa ended up winning it convincing 15-7 as our ladies' stamina gave way.
So 1 win and 1 lose, not a complete disaster and still plenty to play for.

The slowest day of the Festival was yesterday as only two competitions had matches. And seemingly, the Wombat teams decided to take the day off too, losing both matches. On the beach, the men lost to Secristan (25-23, 17-21, 21-19), while inside, the women lost to Taeshan (25-19, 19-25, 19-17).

But today is Day 5, and all the events are back in full swing, including our least favorite, Golf. Now in a team format, great, twice the amount of bad shots. In the other events, excepting Men's and Women's beach and Women's indoor volleyball, rematches of our first games are the order of the day. The only teams that can clinch a semifinal berth are the Water Polo and Field Hockey teams. Might be an interesting day to travel next door to Qazox, huh?

He was 1 shot back through 17, and we misprinted it as thru 18 holes, there by seemingly making Jason Masterson's 3-shot victory closer than it really was. We apologize for the error.

As for the 4th day, the highlight was the only scheduled match involving Qazox was between the two Qazox Universities in Men's beach Volleyball. UF defeated UQLV 21-15, 21-19, dropping UQLV to 0-4, while UF improves to 3-1. Every other team had the day off.

Well with our footballers crashing out in the first round of the Oxen Cup, it was left to our ladies to show the way in the international sports capital of the world that is currently Qazox.
Our indoor volleyball team now faced what some thought before the tournament started would be their toughest task, a game against the hosts A team. However, Qazox A have lost their two previous matches so could they finally gain a victory against our new comers?
Things start badly for our ladies as they go down 10-5, whilst they managed to bring it back at one point to 15-15 they still ended up losing the first set 25-21.
So needing to win the second set our ladies stride into a 10-3 lead, but then Qazox bring it back to 17-17 and it is looking like going to the wire. Then it reached 22-22, our ladies took a two point lead making it 24-22, Qazox brought it back to 24-23 and needed to win the next point to stay in the match, but they lost the point and our ladies made it 1 set each winning 25-23.
So now onto the decider and what a set this turned out to be, Qazox A went 6-3 up, then our ladies went 10-8 up, then it reached 13-13. Our ladies made it 14-13 but then Qazox A won the next point making it 14-14. The rules clearly stated that a 2 point lead is needed to win the game, so despite Qazox A winning the next point and reaching 15, play would continue until one side had a 2 point lead. Our ladies then won the next two points making it 16-15, but then Qazox A made it 16. Our ladies then took control winning the next 2 points and winning a very close set and indeed game, 18-16
So with 3 games gone our ladies are sitll well within a shout of qualifying just 1 set of 2nd place.

So great excitment in the volleyball, but what about the hockey where our ladies had won 2 and drawn 1.
Well they faced Ameriganastan who had yet to win a game.
Our ladies came out and were 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes. but then Ameriganastan found their way past in the 13th minute making it 2-1.
Our ladies seemed to struggle for the rest of the half and went in only 2-1 up. However, their coach obviously had words at half time, as they scored 4 without reply in the next 15 minutes to go 6-1 up. Ameriganastan shut up shop for the next 20 minutes and even managed a consolation goal, as the game ended 6-2. Pauline Chicken managed to get 2 goals, as did Alison Jackson and while Emily Sack and Emma Light managed 1 each.
So with 4 games gone, our ladies are looking very good for qualifying.

Day five's events have been completed and Green Wombat has been eliminated...in Women's beach volleyball. Even a win over Prux (17-21, 21-15, 26-24) couldn't keep the team alive in the standings. On the men's side of the beach, a win over Prux (24-22, 21-17), keeps thier hopes alive for the semifinals.

Indoors, a tough (25-23, 18-25, 15-13) loss to Taeshan, leaves the men's team in a 4-way tie for first, with 2 games to go. On the women's side, they had the day off.

In the pool, a 7-4 win over the University of Fromburg, pushes the team almost into the semifinals with a 3-1-0 record. In field hockey, the women are also almost in following a 7-6 win over the University of Qazox-Las Vitas.

The team bestball event in golf started and Tod Katsbulas and Jesusita Wernicki shot a 2-under 69, and are tied for 2nd just behind the Secristan duo.

Well it was time for the final group stage match for our brave volleyballists. A win here against Green Wombats would not only give our team a place in the next round but possibly even win the group. But Green Wombats weren't going to roll over and die, despite the fact they couldn't qualify, due to having already lost to Lovisa, the only other team that could finish 2nd and level on wins with them.
Our brave ladies put up a good fight in the first set, going 10-5 up at one point but lost it convincingly 25-20 after the wombats had brought it level at 14 all.
The second set Green Wombats went all out to win going 10-3 up then 15-5 up and though our ladies fought bravely it ended 25-21 to the Wombats.
After the mathematicians put their heads together they worked that while Lovisa lost to Qazox A which meant Lovisa had only 2 wins as did the Wombats and our ladies, Lovisa qualified having gained those 2 wins against their two rivals for 2nd spot. Then as Green Wombats had beaten our ladies they were given 3rd place. Which meant despite having winning 2 games, our ladies finished in 4th in their group.

So how would our field hockey team fair? They also faced the Green Wombats, and knew that a win would put them through a game early.
Yet again our ladies came out storming into a 3-0 win as Pauline Chicken got 2 and Emily Sack got 1, in just 15 minutes. The wombats then found their form and brought things level at 3-3 by half time. So all square at the break and everything to play for. Our ladies came out storming and with goals from Pauline Chicken, Emily Sack, Emma Light and Alison Jackson [2], were 8-3 up within 20 minutes. The next 15 minutes our ladies were obviously tired and even let the Wombats in for a consolation goal. Final score 8-4, and our ladies are through a game early. This should mean that some of the tired players get a breather before the semi-finals.

ANOTHER 2 DAYS, ANOTHER REVIEW OF THEM

Cafundéu's teams, in more two days of competition, showed their quality in Qazox, and continued their great campaign. Our country's strength in volleyball is unquestionable, and our teams are dominating the competitions, with the only exception of the male indoor team, which lost a second game in the competition and is not in the first place in the group. In other competitions, Cafundéu alternates good and bad results, but more good than bad. Now the decisive games are coming, and our players will need the maximum concentration and motivation to win.

Talking about volleyball, the performance of our teams in these last two games has been excellent. With the exception of one loss suffered by the male indoor team (our biggest deception), the other volleyball teams won all their games in the last 2 days. But the men's indoor team at least is qualified for the semifinals, which shows them an opportunity to react. The female indoor team had a perfect campaign, and can keep this form in the semifinals. In the beach, the male team won the first six games, and only has a last one to win to get the first place. The girls are in good situation too, already qualified for the semis.

In water polo, Cafundéu had problems to keep the impressive form that surprised many citizens of the country. A loss and a draw sent the team to the third position in the group, but there is still time for the team to react and get into the semifinals. But, if this doesn't happen, the team should be praised, as water polo isn't a strong sport in the country.

Field hockey brings more happiness to the Cafundelenses. The girls from the team continue defeating opponents with their fast game strategy, and continue in the first place of the group, already qualified for the semifinals. This team was praised even before the competition, with well-trained players that seemed promising, and now it is clear that they are more than promises.

In golf, the team competition has started, and Cafundéu is working hard to battle for the top positions. The third place (tied with Prux) shows that our players are more than capable of it.

A Mixed bag to day as Green wombat has clinched 2 semifinal berths, and eliminated in almost every other event, except Field hockey.

In volleyball, The men's teams split their matchups. Indoors, a win over Purx almost clinched a semifinal berth, while the man allowed UQLV to get their first win, but they still qualified forthe semifinals. The women's teams teams swept their matches. But indoor team's loss to Lovisa kept them from the Semifinals, while the beach team was eliminated already.

In water polo, a 9-5 win over Lovisa clinched a semifinal berth, but the opponent is TBD. On the field, the women's loss to Land de Wood, kept them from advancing, but a win tommorrow will see them through.

In golf, Jesusita Wernicki sunk a 34-ft birdie putt on 17 and a 17-ft par putt on 18 to keep the team at 2-under, now tied with Secristan for the lead.

Land de Wood sports ladies section

So it was into our final group game for our field hockey team. Up to this time unbeaten and having already qualified it was time to let some of the reserves take the place of superstars such as Pauline Chicken who has been knocking in goals like they are going out of fashion. Qazox B weren't about to roll over and die especially as a win for them and Green Wombat losing would see them through to the next round.
It was another strong performance from our strikers, taking us 5-2 up by half time, but Qazox B came out fighting the second half to take a 8-7 lead before a last minute equalizer scored by Pauline Chicken who was brought on to try and preserve the 100% record. Into overtime and Qazox B took a lead within a few minutes and won the game 9-8
So despite our first defeat we are through to the next round but now face the host's A team. This is not going to be an easy game, but with our stars recalled to the first team, we are expecting a better defensive performance and at least as good attacking performance.

As our ladies prepare for the semi final match-up against Qazox A in the field hockey tournament. We bring you a report on the players performance.

Lucy Jones GK
The regular first choice goalie who was rested for the final game has performed well in goal, letting in just 19 in 5 games, the best record of any goalkeeper in the group stages.

Carol Heart GK
2nd choice goalkeeper, only appearance was in the final game and struggled against Qazox B letting in 9 goals.

Theresa Green DF
Had a nightmare in the first game and was replaced by Caroline Wilson. Performed better in the last game but still looked out of her depth.

Caroline Wilson DF
Came on in the first game and has gone from strength to strength

Susie Larne DF
A rock at the back, teams have struggled to get past her, was rested for the last game.

Rebekah Polka DF (1goal)
Reliable as ever at the back.

Natalia Green MD (2goals)
While she only managed a couple of goals, she must have got at least 10 assists she worked tirelessly down the wing, was rested for the final game.

Emma Lake MD
While not so good going forward, was reliable as ever defensively.

Emily Sack MD (6 goals)
Made some good breaks from midfield to grab her 6 goals. Was rested from the final game.

Emma Light MD (1 goal)
Not as prolific as Emily Sack or as dangerous as Natalia Green but still got her fair share of assists.

Margaret Henry MD
Only appeared in the final game and failed to impress.

Christina Daniels MD (1 goal)
Glimpses of brilliance when brought on, but probably failed to impress enough in the final game to warrant a place in the starting line up

Pauline Chicken AT (14 goals)
Sensational upfront striking home about a third of the goals for the team, was meant to be rested in the final game but when called upon almost rescued the game.

Alice Jackson AT (6goals)
While not as sensational upfront as Pauline Chicken still got her fair share of goals.

Cherry Putter AT (3 goals)
Not as dangerous as the other two and may yet be replaced by Danielle Conway who did well in the final game.

Danielle Conway AT (3 goals)
Certainly looking more dangerous than Cherry Putter, and could yet make the semi final line up.

Emily Jones (Manager)
Has managed the team well in their first international game and will announce her team tomorrow for their semi final matchup.

Great day Six for the Wombats.

First off, our first medal, as the team of Tod Katsbulas and Jesusita Wernicki shot a 69 in the third round to send the event into a gold-medal playoff. Both Secristan and out team parred the first 3 holes, sending it to a 4th sudden-death playoff hole. On that hole, the Par-4, 401 yd 18th, Tod Katsbulas absolutely nailed a 315-yd tee shot setting Jesusita up for an easy 2nd shot, which she spun to within 6 feet of the hole. Tod calmly came up, and right after Secristan missed a 36-ft birdie putt, sank the ball and Green Wombat won Gold in Golf!

In other events, the men's indoor team won it's group defeating UF, and now they will face Cafundeu in the semis. On the beach, the men knocked off the previously unbeaten Cafundeu side in 3 sets, with the final set lasting for 62 points, ending 32-30 in favor of the Wombats.

The women's volleyball teams came back home after dissapointing finishes.

In water polo, It will be an all-Q-Continuum semifinals as the men beat Prux to clinch the POOL and will face Taeshan in the semis. On the turf, a 10-7 win over winless ameriganastan sent the ladies into the semifinals, where they'll play the University of Fromburg.

So to recap, Green wombat got a GOLD and has a chance for at least 4 more.

SECRISTAN STILL ATOP MEDAL BOARD; WORLD DOMINATION NEAR

As we check back on this Sports Festival taking place in Qazox, we are pleased to report that an apology was issued to Jason Masterson by the Lake Porter Free Press, although the reasoning for their error makes you wonder just how much you can trust what they actually say. They seemingly forgot about the 18th hole. This is golf, right? Most nations play their golf with 18 holes that I know of. Anyway, it’s done with and we won’t need to rely much on their newspaper for information much longer. Masterson grudgingly accepted the apology, “It’s a little weird. It’s a newspaper, covering sports, and you would think their paper would realize that there are 18 holes in golf. I’m glad that I did not lose out on any endorsement deals over this, or else I would have had to sue.” Good thing is right, because Masterson is no stranger to filing lawsuits. Three years ago, despite himself being a multi-millionaire, he sued the parents of a seven year old boy that accidentally hit a baseball through his window, not just for the cost of replacing the window, but for 100,000 R in emotional distress, and in addition when the child turns 18, he is to make monthly payments of 2,000 R for three years. His lawsuit was successful, in case you are curious. Nobody plays baseball near his house anymore.

Let’s get on with it though, a lot has gone on in the nation that whose name would get you a lot of points in scrabble. And without needing a triple word score. Eight days are complete, and guess who is still on top of the medal board. That would be us. So what that there are still a lot of events left, how about we just declare ourselves winners, and go home? Surely, the Lake Porter Free Press might forget about a few matchdays the way they forget about an 18th hole. Anyway, Secristan has had some good and some not so good results to speak of. On the beach, our men finished 5-2, and finished second overall in the standings. They will meet Qazox A. Not B, A. They should have called them Qazox Q and Qazox Z. The women will be playing for the bronze against that damn Qazox letter A again. The Qazox B is in the gold medal game against our monopolist friends from the basketball tournament. Qazox will go down to the rich! Both their A and their B, and they’ll like it! Apparently, we are only good at playing volleyball on the beach because our indoor volleyball teams stunk and are on their way home. Not a bad thing. Indoor volleyball doesn’t get anywhere near the endorsement opportunities that beach volleyball gets. The water polo team all drowned. We think anyway. 0-5-1? Should we even let them back home? Golf is going good, we picked up a silver against the green wombats and are now in the semifinal against West Zirconia. We find the name of this nation interesting. What is it west of? There are no known nations of Zirconia. Nor is there an East, South, or North Zirconia. On that premise, we will beat them in the semifinal and meet either Taeshan or that damn Qazox version A again.

DECISIVE MOMENTS ARE APPROACHING

After eight days of competition, the Sports Festival is finally in its decisive moments. The group stages have already ended, and now the games are directly related to the search for the gold medal. And the fact that Cafundéu is still disputing the gold medal in all competition without counting water polo and golf shows the strength of our country in sports in general, especially in volleyball. Our volleyball teams have been excellent in their games, which was expected. Probably it's Cafundéu the country that gives the most importance to volleyball among the participating ones, and this reflects on the quality of the teams. Field hockey also is giving some good results for the country, which even surprises some people.

Now it's time for Cafundéu to shine in the knockout games and bring medals to the country. The women started with the right feet winning in both indoor volleyball and beach volleyball. Both teams are already in the final, and had guaranteed at least the silver medal, after defeating, respectively, Lovisa and Secristan. The male team still have to win their semifinal games. In a curious fact, both the indoor and beach teams will face the same opponent: Green wombat. One thing must be said: although beach volleyball is a well-followed sport, it's the indoor version of the sport that is more practised and respected in the country. But the supporters are expecting good results in both version of the sport and... why not 4 gold medals?

In water polo and golf, as it was said before, the team has no more chances of winning medals. So, besides volleyball, only the girls of the field hockey team are still being followed by the supporters, who are hoping to see them finishing the competition in a good position and, of course, with a medal. Something possible, as there are only 4 countries left.

(wrong country - this is a Cafundéu RP, sorry)

Not much going on for the Wombats today, other than a loss to Taeshan in 20 holes in the Matchday golf event. The team of Tod Katsbulas and Jesusita Wernicki rallied twice from 2-down to send it into extra holes, but Taeshan's team sank 45-ft putt on the 2nd extra hole to advance to the semifinals.

Tommorrow, the wombats are in the semifinals of men's indoor and beach volleyball, water polo and field hockey.

Land de Wood's field hockey stars faced their biggest game to date, when they took on the hosts Qazox A in the semi-final of the Qazoxian Sports Festival

Qazox A stormed into an early 3-0 lead in just 15 minutes catching Land de Wood on the hop. But then Land de Wood came into live with some lovely play down the left and Pauline Chicken as deadly as ever, half time score 5-4, thanks to Pauline Chicken's hat-trick and 2 from Alison Jackson.
Qazox A's manager obviously had words at half time as things were level at 5-5 within a few minutes of the restart.
But then Natalia Green took the game by the scruff of the net setting up Alison Jackson and Danielle Conway for a goal a piece.
Final score 7-5 and Land de Wood are through to the final!

Prime Minister Andrew Wood has annouced has declared a special holiday so that all can watch the game.

Land de Wood Sports ladies section

Well our ladies are now making their final preparations for their match against Green Wombats.
Back on matchday 2, they won 9-6 against the Green wombats, while on matchday 6 they won 8-4. So our ladies will be fairly confident that they can win again.
To the Green Wombats credit, these were the only two matches they have lost all tournament and they beat Pool A winners, Cafundeu 6-5 in their semi final.

We have a brief interview with manager Emily Jones:
Kirsty: Good evening Emily, and well done you must be thrilled to be in the final
Emily: Good evening and thank you. It is indeed a thrilling prospect but the best is yet to come.
Kirsty: So you are confident that your team can bring home the gold.
Emily: Indeed, we've beaten the Green Wombats twice already and I'm sure that we can win again.
Kirsty: Is their a danger of being over confident going into this game.
Emily: Possibly, but I think the defeat on match day 7 to Qazox B, followed by the first 15 minutes against Qazox A reminded us that we are still human, but I was delighted by the determination my girls showed in the rest of that game.
Kirsty: Indeed, 3-0 down against the hosts it would have been easy to think it was all over, but they certainly showed their never day attitude. How do you feel about Andrew Wood declaring a day's holiday?
Emily: I'm delighted to have his support behind us, and I am confident we can repay that support and bring home the gold.
Kirsty: Will you be taking the same squad to the Olympiad? And do you think you can bring home the gold there as well.
Emily: More or less, but lets not jump ahead of ourselves now, we do still have a job to do tomorrow and we'll worry about the Olympiad after that.
Kirsty: Thank you Emily and good luck.
Emily: Thank you

There you have it a confident Emily Jones as she goes to prepare her team for their final matchup against Green Wombats.

Today was not a great day, but tommorrow there is still hope as the Wombats are assured of at least 3 medals tommorrow, with chances for maybe 1 more.

The bad news first, Cafundeu got revenge for their only loss of the festival, so far, with a 21-18, 21-18 win in Men's Beach volleyball.

The good news, In Water Polo and Field hockey, the teams won and advanced to the Gold Medal matches in each, as did the men's indoor volleyball team.

So it all comes down to tommorrow, and Green wombat is looking for 3 golds at least.

VOLLEYBALL DOMINANCE GUARANTEES FIRST PLACE TO CAFUNDÉU

And it happened. What all the supporters were expecting to happen. Cafundéu simply dominated the volleyball competition, with the exception of the poor male indoor team, which players will face complaints when returning to Cafundéu with just bronze medals in their chest. But that's only a bad note among a happy day. In the other volleyball competitions, Cafundéu showed the strength of its volleyball players and won the first place, in all of them. First, the beach volleyball teams defeated their opponents to get the gold medals. The men beat Secristan, while the women beat one of the Qazoxian teams.

But the team that is truly the best of the entire tournament is the female indoor volleyball team of Cafundéu. The girls, extremely motivated and playing a sport that they enjoy playing, won all of their games, including an easy final against Newmanistan. Surely this girls are ones to look in the future and, after they finish her courses, they can become professionals.

In field hockey, our team was unable to win the bronze medal, but the party was guaranteed. Cafundéu finishes in first place, with six medals, more than anyone else, and three golds, more than anyone else.

Land de Wood Ladies bring home the Field Hockey Gold

There was dancing in the streets of Land de Wood as the Ladies Field Hockey team brought home the first international sporting medal Land de Wood have won, and what's more it was a shiny gold one at that! Technically they brought home 17, one for each member of the squad and one for the manager.

How did they achieve this amazing feet?
By taking an early 3-0 lead against Green Wombats as Alice Jackson and Pauline Chicken (2) scored in just 15 minutes, by half time Green Wombats had brought it back to 3-2.
But some inspiration words from Emily Jones saw the team come out like the clappers as Alice Jackson and Cherry Potter both grabbed a goal a piece, it's 5-2 after 10 minutes and Green Wombats looked dead and buried. But then a sterling fightback with 3 goals in 12 minutes, and it's level at 5-5 with 11 minutes left on the clock.
Then with a minute to spare, Natalia Green took the ball down the wing, weaving in and out of the defense before knocking the ball into the back of the net for a superb solo goal and the gold medal!
Green wombats 5 v 6 Land de Wood

Andrew Wood is said to be delighted by the victory and has promoted Emily Jones, the field hockey manager to overall Olympic team manager which means in addition to managing the field hockey team she'll get to oversee the other teams.

The final day saw Green wombat in 3 Gold medal matches and a bronze medal match and the teams came away with 3 medals, 1 gold and 2 silver.

The first match of the day saw Green wombat take home its 2nd gold medal of the festival, beating the University of Qazox-Las Vegas in a 3-set marathon (29-27, 29-31, 24-22) in men's indoor volleyball.

The 2nd match started just at the beginning of the 3rd set of the men's indoor evetn, and saw the Wombats taking on the other Qazox university, the University of Fromburg on the beach. But a tough 3-set loss (16-21, 21-18, 21-19), saw the wombats fail in get a medal.

Halfway across Qazox, in Pika City, the water polo team fell behind to Prux 5-1 and couldn't recover, losing 10-8, but earning a silver medal.

The final event of the Festival saw Land de Wood jump out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Wombats kept chipping away, but the early lead held as the team picked up the 2nd silver of the day and the 4th overall medal, losing 6-5.

Overall in the 10 events, Green wombat had 4 medals, and had a chance for a 5th. One can hope this bodes well for the upcoming Olympiad.

The festival is over, and in 10 events, Qazox earned 9 of a possible 20 medals. Not great, but not bad. But the bad news is none of those medals were gold. 3 silvers and 6 bronzes is impressive, but to host an event and not win and gold medals is very dishearting, as the Olympics are just a few short months away. But failure or success here does not translate into failure or success in Commerce Heights.

TEAM MEDALISTS:

University of Fromburg: (overall record in Team sports: 16-17-1)
Golf: Team BestBall- Bronze, tied with Cafundeu
Beach Volleyball: Women's- Bronze
Beach Volleyball: Men's- Bronze
