Yafalonia and Bazor 2
25-06-2008, 16:02
The Baptism of FAIL! [I bet that lost us a couple of votes.]

So, anyway, Yafalonia and Bazor 2 are going to have another go at hosting a major tournament (maybe we'll FAIL, maybe we're FAIL!) [I bet that lost us another couple of votes.] and this time it will be Baptism of Fire 29 (a.k.a. Baptism of FAIL! 1 or Baptism of Fire 11011. Or even the One-dimensional baptism of fire! [No.] Alright.)

OOC Bid Information

Scorination/Structural Details:

Scorinator: NSFS 2.0.7
Group Format: Dependant on number of participants, looking for 16,20,24,25 4 groups for 16/24, 5 groups for 20/25 - top 3 teams progress, round robin for last place for 4th placed teams.
Style mods: None
RP bonus: Linear Rank as provided by existing spreadsheet.

Bid Experience:

Bazalonia is a very experienced host - he hosted the critically-acclaimed World Cup 35 (with The Lowland Clans), Cup of Harmony 24 and Cup of Harmony 29, as well as hosting this very tournament four times (the Baptism of Fire for World Cups 29, 31, 33, and 38), and well as AOCAF 15 (the fifteenth version of his regional tournament).

Yafor 2 is, comparatively, not very experienced at all. His only experience actually hosting another event was the extraordinarily successful [Get me out of here before I start laughing.] Futsal Championship 2. However, he has used NSFS in the past to scorinate his domestic league, as well as criticized the efforts of others hosts without actually shouldering their burden.

Of course, the tournament will be hosted by Yafalonia and Bazor 2, but this is the OOC section.

IC Bid Information

STADIA/Stadiums
[Intellectually pretentious, less snobbish, respectively.]

Yafalonian Stadia/Stadiums

Big Stadium - It's big and it's ugly, located in quite the idyllic setting of the Yafalonian Capital city Ferrywind Landing Big Stadium is the 2nd largest Stadium in the entirity of Yafalonia and Bazor 2

Medium Stadium - A medium-sized stadium, there is nothing really remarkable about it, but it does reside in a fairly major city. That city is Old Blue Breeze

Small Stadium - A very small stadium, but still not the smallest in the nation, it has a quite cozy atmosphere getting tickets for this stadium is quite hard, They are usually sold out. In fact, it would be rare for the stadium not to be. It is located in Runeshine.

Random Stadium - Made out of Architectural Clay, this s.tadium is surprisingly sound - however it is the subject of constant renovation and re-design. It has been known to have been re-designed and renovated during a game. You have to keep your wits about you in this place. It is located in Wilddon.

Miso Kite National Stadium - Miso Kite is just so awesome we named this cool stadium after him, Even at Miso's young age he's just so awesome that we had no option but to name a stadium after him. This stadium is just as cool and awesome as he is. It's in Hollybottom.

Forgotten Stadium - We are fairly sure we have one somewhere... We think it's in Lanmouth, but it could also be in Pottersburgh or Iceborough. It's available to play games on.... If you can find it. It is a rather forgettable stadium.

And Stadia/Stadiums

Lost Stadium - I tell you, it was there yesterday! It was in Ossicclaw and then suddenly there's a new Waldo's there instead. I don't know perhaps I'm lost and it's where it's always been or it's been moved to somewhere else in this city... I don't know.

Unknown Stadium - I don't know where it is! Do we even have it? It could be in Sid-on-sea

Bazorite Stadia/Stadiums

Even Bigger Stadium - Yes, this stadium is bigger than Big Stadium, however only by one seat. It is also, however, just that bit uglier than Big Stadium, as well. It it also located in the Bazorite capital Camp Firedown.

Smallest Stadium - The smallest stadium known to man, it has only room for one man and his dog, Then there's the changing rooms and the pitch itself. Getting the ticket for this place is impossibly hard - it's usually given away as a radio prize, as that's the only fair way to do it. Oh and if you are wondering what else takes up the rest of the room around the pitch, it is the car park. Located in Gantrickvale.

Unnamed Stadium - A stadium constructed from donations by a single anonymous doner. It even has a plaque to say that it was, however it seemed there was a bit of a mix up as apparently the donor specified it was to be a Yafalonian Stadium, FAIL though he said "not" Yafalonian and so it ended up in Bazor 2 instead. Located in Icetol.

Jode Heal Memorial Stadium - In memoriam of the tragic death of Jode Heal in a one in a googleplex chance happening, the Jode Heal Memorial Stadium was built after the old Stadium exploded. "But I'm not dead yet" says someone who looks like Jode, talk likes Jode and smells like Jode. Who was apparently not hit by a peice of rubble 3.2 kilometers away inside a building where Jode's desk was as he was sitting down playing Space Invaders at work. Located in Hali River Valley.

Rome National Stadium - All Roads lead to Rome National Stadium, one way or another in the city of Monk's Bybottom. There is even an overpass that goes right over the top of the stadium.

Ice-Stadium - Not made out of ice, nor has any real connection to ice at all. Apart from being in the hottest part of the country which Frequently in summer get up to 45C. Located in Tallenborough, though no one really knows for sure if the "Ice-Stadium" has any real affect on temperatures in the area.

A few questions to answer before a final decision is made:

What is the host/s official policy on CtE?
Will the hosts confound their participating teams by posting as two country owners of one country?
Do the hosts have contingency plans for inevitable quirks (such as countries randomly deciding that they don't belong in the BoF half-way through the tournament, etc.) that may or may not occur during the tournament?
What is the one thing that should be improved in the BoF tournament in general for future reference?
What is the host/s official policy of puppets of existing countries?
What specifically makes this bid stronger than the other bids?

This is Yafor 2 responding to your questions, btw. I've discussed the answers with Bazalonia, though.

What is the host/s official policy on CtE?

In the event of a ceased-to-exist, if the CtE is in the group stage, we will wait until the group stage is complete, and then, in the unlikely event that the CtE'd country advances, we will not allow that to happen. Basically, if they finish first in their group, the second place team will advance in the first-place position and the third-place team in the second-place position. There will be no 80-point penalty, but the nation will not be allowed to advance. During the knockouts, CtE'd nations will forfeit their matches. We plan to check for CtE's after the group stage and then later on - kind of like drug testing. ;)

Will the hosts confound their participating teams by posting as two country owners of one country?

Well, we'll have to wait and see, won't we? :p

Do the hosts have contingency plans for inevitable quirks (such as countries randomly deciding that they don't belong in the BoF half-way through the tournament, etc.) that may or may not occur during the tournament?

Naturally, these will be dealt with on a case-to-case basis - given that we are both veterans who have good knowledge of NSWC precedent, we'll look very heavily for past precedent. Given that we are both active in the WC community and in the channel #nssport, we will also look to the experience of others. In the example listed, such a nation will be treated like a CtE'd nation (and, thus, you can refer to question number one).

What is the one thing that should be improved in the BoF tournament in general for future reference?

We feel that, while the BoF is a good venue for newer nations to practice RP'ing sports, there are few examples of good and bad RP and examples of interesting RP. We look to provide those, as we both have been RP'ing in the NSWC community for a long time, and thus have a good idea of what newer nations could benefit from.

What is the host/s official policy of puppets of existing countries?

Puppets are always nice. Of course, new RP'ers are preferred, but there's nothing wrong with puppets.

What specifically makes this bid stronger than the other bids?

We believe that this bid has the right mix of experience and energy. Bazalonia has hosted many events in the past, while Yafor 2 is less experienced, but no less interested. Both of us have dedication to the NSWC community and a real interest in making this work - as a learning process for newer nations, as well as a fun experience for all. Unlike many of the other bids, we have a good mix of a very experienced host (Bazalonia) and a first-timer (Yafor 2), who have both been around for long enough to have good ideas to display to the NSWC community, as well as use smart ones from the past.
