World Cup 42 Introduction:

For more information on the World Cup, its History, how it works, who runs it, and the competitions related to it, check out the World Cup Wiki Site (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/world_cup.html).

The NSWC is a tournament for any NS nation who signs up. This World Cup is about to start its 42nd competition, and your nation can take part! Every team is given a rank based on their performances in previous Cups, and the starting rank is roughly 200 (the current "best team in the world" is Valanora, with a rank of 1) See: KPB Rankings (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/kpb_ranking_system.html)

Scores are generated using either a Java program or through various or MS Excel sheet 'scorinators' which use random numbers, weighted by ranking and RP bonus to produce the scores.

It is encouraged for Nations to RP - roleplay - their matches, team rosters, players and such. Good RPs will help raise your chance of winning (especially in the Baptism of Fire). Please note: A lot of RPs does not guarantee goals or wins, but your chances are improved of this happening. i.e. Two debutant, non-ranked, nations play each other. One has RP'd a few times, the other has not. The nation who has participated should have the better probability of victory, but still has a chance of a Win, Loss or Draw.

RPs can be Team Roster announcements, fan comments, press conferences, media stories, anything about the game, as long as you've kept to the score as posted or TGd to you by the host/scorer.

For any other questions you may have, please see the World Cup FAQs article on NSwiki. (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/world_cup_faqs.html) - Courtesy of Starblaydia

The longest-running sports competition in NationStates reaches its forty-second tournament: the Football (Soccer) World Cup. Please do specify if you have not participated before.

If your nation is new to the World Cup, or if you have no KPB points, you may be able to take part in the preliminary Baptism of Fire Cup (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/baptism_of_fire.html) competition.
If this is your first Cup, please indicate whether you wish to be registered for the Baptism of Fire or not.

Puppets have to post with their nation and identify their master. One Puppet per Master nation, and you may only enter a puppet once you have already competed in a World Cup

And there will not be any Robotic waterfowl, although the sentient cheese has applied to return, but we think they haven't aged too well, so who knows who Prux will have represent them, if you have any ideas, please let us know!

Land de Wood
23-06-2008, 19:37
Land de Wood news, sports section 23/06/08

The recently formed football association of Land de Wood hereby apply for entry to the Baptism of Fire.

Land de Wood was recently formed by Andrew Wood's company Wood Limited who set up the entire nation on the previously uninhabited nation, utilisiling not only their work force but also their work force's families and indeed extended families.

The Football Association have drawn players from the company's existing 5 aside league and are currently running trials.

While no one expects the Land de Wood to do that well as they start their international football journey and their players adjust from 5 aside football to 11 aside, one never knows.
Yafalonia and Bazor 2

Zongguo
10-07-2008, 21:06
Tenatively, the Holy Empire of Zongguo would like to sign up for both the Baptisim of Fire and the WC.

However, I'm going on vacation for a week and a half beginning next Tuesday, so I'd like to know when each respective competition is scheduled to begin. If they're going to be going on while I'm with limited/no access to a computer, I don't want to sign up this time. After all, I'd like the opportunity to RP.

If active RPing isn't possible this time, then I'll join in next time.

So, when's this all get started, approximately?

Not that it seems anyone's peeked at this thread recently, but Zongguo is withdrawing from both BoF and WC for this time around. I've heard BoF will possibly start later this week, while I'm away from consistant internet access. See you next time, everyone!

Liventia
15-07-2008, 13:54
As of that last post, we're up to 70 signups by my count.

Make this 71.

Liventia, formerly Liverpool England, will tentatively return to the international fold — and there's no guarantee we're here to stay. For OOC purposes, Liventia is to be treated as a puppet of Ad’ihan.

Liventia will also tentatively apply to the BoF, having never been in a BoF before (Liverpool England pre-dates the BoF and the KPB ranking system, having first participated in WC6).

A final decision on whether or not Liventia will indeed participate will come soon, depending on my RL workload and having to balance that with my other non-sporting RPs as well as RPs for Ad’ihan.

31-07-2008, 22:57
We have currently 81 countries signed-up for the World Cup, which would mean that we need just one more to reach the initial desired number of teams.

But, we have two nations that can cease before the beginning of the qualifiers, which are:

Vonks - 17 days away
Sineki - 23 days away
Montgisard
01-08-2008, 03:02
The Dominion of Montgisard is pleased to debut its first competitive football team, the Montgisard Crusaders, at World Cup 42.
East Ying
03-08-2008, 00:18
I would like to signup East Ying, i have no idea what the signup format is, im new to the worldcup, but have a good National Side due to competitions in my current and past regions.
Roddyville
03-08-2008, 05:37
I would be very interested in taking part in the World Cup. For starters, I would love to take part in the Baptism of Fire competition, but that seems to be closed.

This is my first World Cup, so I have no points/ranking.

I hope to get in. Also, when will the competition take place?
The Macabees
03-08-2008, 17:40
The Macabees would like to sign up.
Cafundeu
09-08-2008, 00:22
The qualifiers stage of the World Cup will have 80 teams, so the first 82 nations (as Cafundéu and Septentrionia are already in the World Cup as hosts) that signed up are guaranteed in the competition. The others will have to wait for ceasings or if a team gives up to enter (this means a waiting list).

That said, Roddyville and The Macabees are in the waiting list (East Ying is already in as Sineki has ceased).

Any countries that sign-up from now must be aware that it is highly unlikely that they'll get a place for WC42's qualifiers.
Cafundeu
16-08-2008, 14:22
Sign-ups closed.

Vonks has ceased, so Roddyville takes its place. And, although there are some countries that seem to be going to cease (biggest examples are Tomarian, Nuevos Aires, Lindiginis Insania, New Zomboria and Kansiov [btw, Kansiov is 23 days without logging, and Nuevos Aires 22]), they won't cease in time for The Macabees to enter in the qualifiers.
Milchama
16-08-2008, 21:30
Caf- If they're going to cease so soon then just wait a few more days.

Mac is certainly more likely to RP then they are, and I don't think anybody is really going to go nuts over an extra few days of waiting.
Taeshan
16-08-2008, 21:36
or you could just make it 82 teams in qualifying. With 9 groups of 8 and one of 10. Or two of nine. Having a preliminary day. You would just need another team.
Cafundeu
16-08-2008, 21:51
It's better for the groups to have the same number of teams.

Yes, we can wait. When it's time for the group draw, we'll warn you.
Daehanjeiguk
16-08-2008, 22:14
if you're willing to go to extremes, you could unilaterally expunge one of the two CtE candidates.

17-08-2008, 00:12
HOSTS ANNOUNCEMENT:

We are announcing that An Blascaod Mór will be replaced by The Macabees. That decision was taken as we could not wait anymore (there has been enough waiting so far) to begin this and that An Blascaod Mór, a puppet of Sorthern Northland, was the last puppet to sign-up. However, should a nation CTE between today and the beginning of the cup, that CTEd nation will be replaced by An Blascaod Mór
West Zirconia
17-08-2008, 00:13
Sign-ups closed.

Hmmm...we played three of them in our glorious BoF campaign. No wonder they were so easy to beat. [slinks away disappointed]

here you go. How about 12 groups of 7 with the hosts. first team makes it to cup. 18 spots to go. 2nd place teams also make. then the 3rd place teams have playoffs and the final 6 plus the hosts get in.

Let the hosts make their own mind up about the structure. You can decide the structure when you host.

I need the attention of everyone to a thing:

Sel Appa's and Legalese's sign-ups weren't put in the first page of the WC42 sign-ups thread and, as I was keep tracking of the sign-ups by it, I didn't count them in the number of sign-ups.

But now I've noticed my mistake, and will correct this.

Both Sel Appa and Legalese will be included in the WC, and An Blascaod Mor will return too. Cokenia's late sign-up will be accepted, and we'll have 86 countries signed-up.

This means that we'll have 12 groups of 7 in this WC, which draw will be tomorrow as planned. Top 2 are automatically qualified, 3rd placed ones to play a playoff.

Pre-qualifying friendlies will be scorinated on Tuesday, and MD1 of the qualifiers on Wednesday.

Sorry for making this mistake, I hope you understand the reasons.

And, in this thread, I must say that sign-ups now are really closed. There are no more places in the WC42's qualifiers.
