Drum & Bugle Corps World Tour II Registration

Bluth Corporation
01-06-2008, 05:40
This is the registration thread for the Alliance of International Drum & Bugle Corps Associates World Tour II.

If you wish to participate, please read the Performance Rules (http://wikistates.outwardhosting.com/wiki/AIDBCA_World_Tour_Performance_Rules) and Tour Rules (http://wikistates.outwardhosting.com/wiki/AIDBCA_World_Tour_Tour_Rules), then post in this thread with the following information, for each corps you submit:

Corps name
Corps home city
Show title and description
Rank the five general captions (Auxiliary, Battery Percussion, Bugles, Marching & Maneuvering, Sideline Percussion) in order from strongest to weakest.

Registration will close midnight June 8, 2008. At that point, I will ask you to provide venues for contest sites for the tour, as outlined in the Tour Rules.

Remember: you can submit up to three corps.

Competitions will begin on June 15, and run every night for ten nights. Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals will run the next three nights after that, with the exact format to be determined at the close of registration, based on the level of participation.

Scorination will be done with a relatively jury-rigged system of Gnumeric spreadsheets, PHP scripts, and mySQL databases I have set up. The scores should be more realistic than in World Tour I, but the general principles will apply: scores will tend to increase over time (as they do in the real world), but with the occasional slippage--whether in a caption score or an overall score--to represent the fact that corps do indeed have off nights.

You can, as always, RP your corps' performances for a bonus based on the quality of your roleplay.

Although it's not really IC to use real-world music and artists, we go ahead and do so anyway just to make it easier to visualize the program.

If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Zwangzug: Live Wires was your lowest-placing corps, so it's not permitted to return until at least the next tour. Wild Foxen is, although you can enter an alternate corps in its place if you wish (or only enter two corps period).

Ah, my bad, I'd mentally transposed them. I'll edit my post more fully later: for now, Wild Foxen are in with the show formerly assigned to Sunset Storm (and corps 3 is pending).

Corps Name: Kings of the New South
Home city: Vulcan
Show title: "Back to the Beginning"
Show description: Pre-Diaspora hip-hop, and metal music with a heavy influence on big-band, drum-line, and latin influenced songs and beats. The band will not religiously follow the source material, but will vary it to give it a more modern sound, and to keep from being monotonous. The Drums run this band with an iron fist, and it shows in the team's performances. The Drum Major might be one of the most talented man in the country, as he not only has to organize a band, but also do lyrics for some of the songs.

Songs (not inclusive, but a a good example of the songs played):
Entry Song: Celtic Frost - Oriental Masquerade (no, we don't know why they picked it either.)
Trick Daddy - Shut Up
Yung Wun - Tear It Up
Nas - Black Republicans
Young Zee - That's My Nigga Fo Real
E-40 - Do Ya Head Like This
Closer: Sepultura - Refuse, Resist (Drum Line Only)

Sideline Percussion

Arroza: Just FYI, when I was in drum & bugle corps, anyone who called us a "band" got his ass beat. Big time. :D

Anyway, corps registration is now closed.

Since we have 11 corps, in order to meet the requirement of "Everyone does 10 shows/no more than 8 corps at a show", we will need a total of 20 show sites. 11 of those will be corps home shows. Countries will be assigned show sites roughly based on the number of corps they have entered.

Please post the stadiums you will be providing (the number you must provide is below). Remember, for the "Home shows" the stadium must be in or relatively near to the home city of the corps it is for.

Bluth Corporation - 6 total (3 home shows)
Zwangzug - 6 total (3 home shows)
Taeshan - 6 total (3 home shows)
Skibereen - 1 total (1 home show)
Arroza - 1 total (1 home show)

You must have your stadium list posted by midnight US CDT (GMT -5) June 15 or your corps will be removed from competition. That said, if your post is after that time but it's made before the first time I sign on after I wake up on the 15th, I'll let it slide.

From Monday-Friday updates to this list may be slow; I am a high school marching band instructor, and our one of our band camps is this upcoming week. I'll be bringing a laptop with me since I have various band-related work I need to do on it (drill, music, handouts), and if I get a chance I'll sign in and update this list, but no guarantees. I will be back the afternoon of Saturday the 14th, though, so I'll be here to update the list before the end of stadium registration, if nothing else.

OOC: Interesting. I always considered groups like the FAMU or Southern's band to be quite happy to be called a band, and not a corps, as that name has a militatistic tinge to it. I'm equate our entry as equivalent to a great black college band, but more polished and stripped doen to remove instruments that aren't legal.

Yes, college and high school marching bands can be called "bands" just fine, because that's what they are: marching bands.

Drum & bugle corps are drum & bugle corps, and marching bands are marching bands :D They're separate activities with separate histories, and only recently have they begun to overlap at all (some, including myself, would say too much overlap already).
