International Basketball Tournament (Interest/Signup)

Seeing how there are tournaments going on for Baseball, Football, American Football, Hockey, and even Russian Roulette...has anyone pondered doing a basketball tournament? Anyone interested in participating in one (if there is one?) Just wondering as it's Arroza's second sport...just behind American Football, and above Soccer and Racing.

The Kingdom of Dancougar announces the International Basketball Tournament. There is a scorinator, there are venues, all that's left are to get some teams!

So how is it scored?

I've written a basic simulator which generates possessions and uses data from the 2007/08 NBA season to determine what happens. It's a glorified random number generator that awards points.

Style mods?

No. Not on my watch. Role play it!

RP bonus?

Of course! RPs are scored anything between 0 and 3 points per game day, with high marks getting earned for high quality posts. Use the teams around you, see if you can find a good reason for why you scored 70 points one night and 90 the other, just have fun with it. RP bonus is cumulative - day N's is worth 1/2, day N-1 is worth 1/4, day N-2 is worth 1/8, and so on. And it raises your team's shooting accuracy by up to 10%.

What's the format?

Depends on the number of teams. The standard mini-league followed by knockouts seems to be the way to go, although series will be best of N for some odd N. Regardless of how it goes, I'll hopefully be having RP cutoff and scorination sometime around midnight, eastern USA time.

Sounds lame. I bet the games are lopsided and you fail.

Then don't play ^_^ Signups end on Saturday, June 7.

This certainly sounds fun-but what about how many games we'd play in the mini-league though?

You'll play against everyone in your group at least twice, with the number/sizes of groups to be determined. Knockout rounds will be best of N, for an as-yet undetermined N.

Time for a friendly bumpitty-bump...

The current plan for a seven team tournament would be a single group round-robin for twelve games, and then either two teams in a best-of-five for the title or the top four playing best-of-threes. I'm leaning towards the latter.

This will change if we get more participants. Deadline remains Saturday night.

(Come on now, Jolt, I made a post, now put me on the first page! Apologies, but the previous bump failed, and for some reason the thread thought it still hadn't been posted in since like Sunday. We now return you to your regularly scheduled board.)
Kose and The Turkomans
03-06-2008, 21:18
It wouldn't be a contest without Turks so we're in.
Frontenax
04-06-2008, 04:36
Frontenax will sign-up.

And then there were nine! An even number would be totally awesome, but isn't necessary if we can avoid a prime number of teams ^_^

i move to have sign ups close at twelve, and start a waiting list after that and if there are that many a adding of the top amount of even number from the waiting list into the cup at a certain time.Or if its like an easily divided odd # such as 15.

By the way, as a good basketball tourney name... I propose two candidates:

Cup of Points
or CoP.

Basketball Global Tourney
or BGT

OK-maybe I'm a little hyper right now.

Slightly, but hyper is better than dead.

How about keeping it simple - The International Basketball Championships.

Although for a nickname..."The Big Shot"?
