The forceful Pope of the Roman Catholic Church of New Dornalia, Pope Patrick I, stood in front of the monitor in his office, his trademark Irish brogue and bold mannerisms evident as he made a pitch with Father Joseph Locallo, head of the Society of Jesus—a.k.a the Jesuits—in the room to none other than Carla Baileygates herself. All other options had been exhausted, and after several angry phone calls and no reply by mail, a direct appeal seemed in order to the Pontiff. Then again, this was a Pontiff used to mobilizing his “battalions” and getting things done, and he wasn’t going to let a little thing like secular bureaucracy stop him.

“So let me get this straight. Because you had a vision, you want to send missionaries to…the Galactic Empire.”

Carla Baileygates looked at the Pope like he had proposed a law to legalize slavery. She then continued with, “You do know we are at a state of war with them, yes? I mean, I like God and Jesus as much as the next person, but….”

The Pope stood up and firmly replied, “I know, Comrade Commissar. Which is why I’ve done my research and spoken with Father Locallo. What I propose will be done within the bounds of law. We won’t be givin’ them aid and comfort. We will merely send people to try and spread the word of God to them. We won’t provide food. We won’t sell any technology. We won’t be makin’ any Tokyo Rose-type radio broadcasts either, and I’ll excommunicate any man that does and make sure he doesn’t come back! In fact, I'd be tempted to leave such a man in your tender hands.”

He then motioned for Locallo to speak; Locallo replied, “We in the Society of Jesus intend to spread the word of God into their lands, as the Pope has indicated. In our opinion, the Galactic Empire proper is a fertile mission are-”

“Well, the Galactic Empire, no offense, is quite different than the Fijians and the Vikings. They’re much more aggressive, and they’ve got Sith,” Baileygates retorted. “Not to mention, they’re generally xenophobic. Call to the faith or not, you’re gonna have a helluva time persuading them of the validity of a foreign faith.”

Locallo then replied, frowning, “Then we will displace the Sith. We in the Society will do as we have always done. Use logic, knowledge and mental discipline and faith to win the day, along with said Vision.”

Baileygates then tapped her chin and thought. To persuade her, Patrick decided to play to Baileygates’s known—or what he perceived to be known—goals, “Look, Comrade Commissar. We also have the precedent of history to draw upon. Christianization, dare I say it, has proved to be a powerful force to motivate locals to become pacifistic. The Vikings, for example, or the Fijians, as you mentioned. These were peoples considered warlike and xenophobic. But they were given the Word and they become the most peacable of men.”

Baileygates retorted, “There are the Crusades to think about, no offense. Who’s to say the Christianized Empire won’t suddenly turn its Imperial Star Destroyers on its foes once more in the name of the One True God and His Son? Give them Christianity, and you may give them a new reason to fight the Coredians.”

Patrick then retorted, speaking with conviction: “Then we tell them what God told me. That He doesn’t want them to fight the Coredians. That he wants them to use their command of the Force for creative, not destructive purposes. That in His Kingdom, all men and women can live as brothers and sisters, as long as they work to ensure that occurs without harm or injury to their fellow man.”

Locallo then noted, “Besides, you do know His Holiness have some sensitivity to the Force, yes? He would not speak unless he knew what was up.”

Commissar Baileygates then said, skeptically, “Hmm….well, I assume His Holiness won’t go himself. Who will come in his place?”

“Someone properly motivated,” Pope Patrick said. “Someone properly motivated.”

“What His Holiness means is that one of the men from the Mulcahy Mission will be sent to the Empire with an assistant. No Force users will be sent, besides we have found a good pair.

And, to counteract any attempts on their lives and to dominate them….we found a null to accompany the man.” Locallo noted.

And it was thus that one Father Esteban Romero (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Senor_Nb3/tn2_antonio_banderas_4.jpg), formerly of Bogota, Colombia, ventured into a rather unholy land dressed in the simple vestments of a Jesuit order member. He would arrive at a GE border station carrying one Spartan attaché case with a copy of the Catholic Bible, a crucifix, vial of holy water, and other such papers as he needed. He had pince-nez spectacles, and a simple, plain look about him, along with a fedora. His assistant, one Brother Etienne Dalladier (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Senor_Nb3/500px-Cloud_Strife_art.jpg) of Montreal, Canada, was also dressed similarly, though he was more wiry, and had sandy blonde hair. Any Force users, Light, Dark, Up, Down, Red, White, whatever, at the border station would find themselves looking at a rather….blank individual when they looked at Etienne. As if he didn’t register. Not to mention they would think he was kinda girly.
