WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC SEVEN sign-ups.
While the World Cup waits to find out whom will be hosting its' tourney, the WBC begins to prepare for the 7th Classic.
Qazox finally broke on through and got its first title, and looks to become the 3rd team to repeat as champions. But will they? or will Milchama regain its title or will Az-cz take home its 4th? Or can ESF or taeshan finally break through and win their first title? Or will someone else emerge from the pack and claim the title? Only one way to find out...and that's to sign up.

Confirming that despite Ad’ihan winning the World Cup hosting bid, Liventia will proceed with its WBC7 hosting bid after analyses of the other hosting choices.
The bid will use the same scorinator as in WBC6 (an upgraded version of Az-cz's WBC2 scorinator), toned down slightly to avoid the large blowouts we had last time.
With twenty teams, four groups of five will be used (single round robin). The top two teams proceed to the quarter-finals, which will be a best-of-three series. The semi-finals will be a best-of-five and the final a best-of-seven series.
Timing of scorination for WBC7 will be based around the timing of scorination for WC41.
RP-wise, for the first time in Liventia in international play, the DH rule will not be used in games not involving Liventia — but will remain in use for Liventia's group. Should Liventia progress to the playoffs, the DH rule will only be in use for matches in which Liventia is designated the home team.

Is the WBC scorinator somewhere where I could download it, or an explanation of how it works somewhere? I'm curious more then anything else.
Liventia, I want to vote for you, but I don't really like the DH being only used in one group, and then only being used in games where you are the home team. I'd like to see consistency. Either we have it, or we don't.
Miroxia, I wouldn't have publicly said you don't know what is meant by a bid. ;)

DH rules not be used. Instead, the pitchers will replace them.
I do not know much on the scorinator, so I would like to know where I could read on that, so I can be a good host.
There will be four groups of five, and they will each play two games in their group. The teams in the group will be placed based on their ranking from former World Baseball Classics, and if the amount of times they have entered the competition. This way the groups will be evened. However, if a majority of the people wish to have random draws, their wish will be made.
The top two of the four groups will advance to the knockout stage. They will then play the Stage 2 Knockout. The winners of this will then be advanced to the quarter finals, the winners of this stage will go on to the semi finals, and then to the finals. Each of the games in the knockout stage will be best-out-of-three.
Timing of scorination may vary, because I live in +4 GMT, unlike most people here.

I got the WBC2 scorinator from Az during WBC2 itself when he asked me to scorinate a few of his games. I've modified it since then but I can forward you the WBC2 scorinator. I'm sure other WBCs have used different ones, there isn't a fixed one. In short, the WBC6 (and prospective WBC7) scorinator is an Excel spreadsheet, with inputs for rank based on points (RP bonus included in rank) and other factors [in comparison, the WBC2 scorinator used sequential ranks, iirc].
As for the DH — I'm not a fan of pitchers batting (then again, my team is in the American League, so no surprise there). But it appears, from both last time out and from previous WBCs, that pitchers batting would be welcome by most. I'll open it to input from others and make a final decision on the DH based on comments received.
I think I get it now ;)
Okay, all I need is a scorination program. If anyone can tell me where to get one, that'd be great.
There will be 5 groups of 4. Each team will play each team twice, so six game series. The top 2 of each will move on to the next round. The two top teams overall will play each other and the winner shall go on to the finals. The other 8 teams will be put in a bracket and fill face other teams on rank: 1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 5, 3 vs. 7, 6 vs. 8. The winners will go on to the next round. 1/4 vs. 3/7, and 6/8 vs. 2/5. The winners of those will go onto the semi-finals. Then they will face the winner of the top 2 teams. The finals will be a best of 5 series, the rest best of 1.
There will be a DH rule.
I puit forth a new idea home games for everyone. Group rounds should be a home away thing instead of the always playing in set host country. Since im not exactly going to host a WBC unless with partners (remember the option i brought up in the WCDT, about "hosting" it)well anyway this would help teams fans get to the games and make it more "fair"

I'm trying to compile the ranks for the upcoming tournament: to do so, I will need the ranks from WBC6. The numbers below were obtained by treating all phases equally: a win was a win, whether in the Cup, Plate, Bowl, or whatever.
Is everyone okay with using these for WBC6? Have any better ideas? I'll use a weighted average of 4, 5, and 6 for the overall rankings.

Stadium Info, type of scorinator (ie How you will produce the results), a Probable Schedule, things like that.
Green wombat
29-05-2008, 04:24
Green wombat will be using the same scorinator Qazox has used successfully in the past (WBC's 1,4 and 5, which is known for its close games and extra inning ones).
Depending on the final number of signups, groups will be as even as possible.
ie:
20 teams: 4 groups of 5.
21 teams: 3 groups of 7.
22 teams: 2 groups of 5, 2 groups of 6
24 teams: 4 groups of 6
25 teams 5 groups of 5.
etc...
No matter the group situation, the top two teams will advance to the next round. Depending on the number of groups their either will be a secondary group stage, then the semifinals or playoffs. For the playoffs, they will be best 2 of 3 with the semifinals and finals being best 3 of 5 games.
Scorination will be every day starting on June 6th or 7th.
Stadium info will be provided upon winning of the host bid.

Miroxia, this makes no sense: The other 8 teams will be put in a bracket and fill face other teams on rank: 1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 5, 3 vs. 7, 6 vs. 8. The winners will go on to the next round. 1/4 vs. 3/7, and 6/8 vs. 2/5.
Why should the top seed have to play the 4 seed, and the 6 and 8 seeds play each other?
As for the DH, I don't really care if we have it or not. I just think it needs to be something done across the board one way or the other, not just in select groups.
I know its not my place and there are 19 others but.... could we start this on the 12th and not the 7th or the 8th?

Nothing against Liventia, but B2B hostings make me nervous. (i know that Qazox hosted #'s 4 and 5, but didn't he take one of them over for the original host?)
The reason why if any may ask is that the host maybe tempted to influence the results based on complaints from the last tourney, not that Liventia probably would do such a thing, but there is always that chance.
And the other 2 bids are barely bids at all.
Do you guys use real ball-players? Because I could host this here puppy in Baseball Mogul 2009. Fire it up, create the teams, leagues, allocate the players, and sim it.

In order to your questions:
1- NO, you create your own roster to RP with.
2- NO using Baseball Mogul 2009, video games or the like, (as i was chastised for even considering it after the 1st one). We use a scorinator (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/scorinate.html) (see link) to create the scores. Granted it maybe more work, but it does ensure a fairer result and we can add RP bonuses (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/rp_bonus.html) into it better than the other possiblities.

I'm going to put up the RP/scores, etc thread in a bit, but I'm first checking for CTE's. IF there are any, then they'll be cut. IF there aren't any, then I'll TG some past participants to see if they'll be the 24th team.
The signups will stay open until there is a 24th team or until the host declares it closed. (hint..hint..hint.. if anyone wants to throw in a puppet, do so...)

The 24th sign up will come. We don't need to rush into it with 23 just for the sake of starting it.
24 is much greater and much preferred then 23.

True, but the longer we wait, the more it will clash with the WORLD CUP, which it is going to anyway, but the sooner we start, perhaps the greater chance of not being overwhelmed (read: ignored) by the WC itself.
