The Oriental Football Cup
La Copa Oriéntale de Fútbol

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t156/daehanjeiguk/DYCGGP-5.png

The Imperial Football Association of Daehanjeiguk (the Great Han Empire) wishes to invite those countries that adhere to the following requirements in a new football tournament in the Empire proper. The purpose of this tournament is to bring together the history and heritage of worldwide ethnic Han peoples, to include the commonly called peoples of "Korea", "China", and the "Philippines". For this reason, the Imperial Football Association feels it is most appropriate for the home Empire to host this tournament to bring back the descendants of those many progenitors of the ethnic Han abroad. By hosting this tournament, we wish to test the bonds of familial strength and learn of the fate of our brothers and sisters abroad, and to forge a new friendship with those countries that host these populations. It is with great pleasure that the IFA announces the Fifth Oriental Football Cup.

---=+++=---=+++=xxx=+++=---=++++---
Countries wishing to participate in the Tournament must satisfy the following requirements:

The country must be recognized by the Imperial Ministry of Foreign Affairs; OR
The country must have a sizable population of ethnic Han (Korean/Mandarin/Cantonese/Chinese/Filipino), whose heritage has in some part contributed to the country's modern establishment; OR
The country must have a significant population of ethnicities considered to possess a heritage closely tied to ethnic Han heritage (Japanese/Vietnamese/Thai/Malay/Mongolian), whose heritage has in some part contributed to the country's modern establishment; OR
The country must have declared its official languages to be the same as those of the Empire (Korean/Chinese); OR
The country must have been at one time a protectorate or tributary state of the Empire in its history.

Those countries wishing to participate must supply proof of the requirements established.

Thanks to Ariddia for NSWikifying this Cup before I could (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/Oriental_Football_Cup.html).

- The OFC is not affiliated with the World Cup and is not sponsored by the WCC (that is, whatever happens in the OFC stays in the OFC).
- RP is the only determinant that helps you win (i.e. no ranks, whatsoever!); but it is not guarantee that you will win every match.

Past Champions:
1 - Ariddian Arctic Islands (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=536058)

Matches will be held in Emperor Gojong Football Stadium in Hangyeong, with neighboring stadiums also open to the competition if the volume proves too much for one stadium to handle. The minimum number of teams required to play is set at 4, although no maximum has been established yet.

Panarii To Step Up?
Pretender to the throne to go to the next level?

Lex Panarii has taken command of a few different Starblaydi sides of late, giving one the impression that the Starblaydi Football Association are grooming him for the top job of managing the full Starblaydia national football team. He's had the Under-21s, he's had the 4th Oriental Football Cup side, he's even taken the AOCAF 'B' team to the Third Place position in the premier regional football tournament in the world and now, with Starblaydia's fairly woeful performance in their own home tournament, looks increasingly likely to replace Betanii Marrones at some point in the near future.

"I'm not going to knock Betanii for what she's achieved over the last ten years," Panarii said, "and I defy anyone who would argue otherwise. From 106th to 25th in two tournaments is a fantastic achievement in anyone's books, and when you throw in a Baptism of Fire Final and a World Cup Quarter-Final, the case against her collapses completely."

He's made no bones about his ambition to manage the national team, having started during the hiatus as a part-time coach of the Jhanna Praetoran University side while teaching as a History Professor. Somehow he managed to fit professional football playing into his schedule too, and progressed from the Iskara Daii side all the way to thirty-three caps for the national side, culminating in captaining them throughout the 39th World Cup's Qualifiers under Marrones' coaching. He invented Starblaydia's pre-match war dance, the Raiigar, after much historical research and, unsurprisingly, is regarded as one of the great thinkers of Starblaydi football. His nickname of 'Professor' is justly deserved.

The Professor, of course, has also recorded a record-equalling victory in this very tournament, when Starblaydia defeated Gweridijongya by eight goals to nil, which was surprisingly their only victory of OFC4. Three score draws and a loss was their remaining record, finishing with a plus-seven goal difference that was unable to see them progress from the Group Stage, finishing fourth out of five.

Panarii has much hope for his players, putting faith in the starting eleven from the previous tournament, showing that though there is a lot of quality in the Han-raised players, there isn't a lot of depth. Perhaps this sort of event, as well as the rumoured takeovers of any and all of a dozen different NFL sides by Starblaydi owners, can help to galvanise that 5% of the population who have their ancestry in places like Daehanjeiguk. Panarii is expected to announce his team over the next 24 hours, and it will surely be similar, if not exactly the same, as the previous side he played in this tournament.

The question remains, of course, what will happen if he manages to win it? Starblaydia's first international trophy for thirty years - the Indigenous World Cup was the last, won when Lex was a 17 year old football-loving History student - would surely act as the herald for his ascension to the national football team's pinnacle of management. Quite where this leaves Marrones, however, no-one is sure.

Team to be led
Thats right we've got a team and while we may only be a tribe the KTTFF have entered us in a competition for orientals. The team is to be led by the ever glorious Khan his first public apearence since securing automomy for our people. while we only have 400 people of eligible status to play out of a population of 1000 this is the biggest thing to happen for us, ever. The Khan will select only the most powerful and brave warriors and remember make the Horde proud. This is a chance for our players to play for KTT our brothers in arms, why, I hear you ask would we still be eligible for their team? because we are not registered for the world cup, nor are we totaly independent it is through the grace of our protectors in Kose who we will thank, or blame for our one chance.

Starblaydia's 2nd Han Roster
Hans and Sweet & Sour lovers

Five years on, Lex Panarii has had the good fortune to be able to select precisely the same starting eleven as last time out. This team includes the last hurrah for thirty-four year old Lii Chong-sun, the first of the real Han generations. Lii has thirty-nine caps to his name but only seven goals, and he has made his final international target double-figures by the end of the tournament. Some task that will be, however, with some of the best players from around the World playing, including past World Championship-Winning nations.

Jae Chang-hwa, the perennial glamour girl of the Starblaydi side, returns to captain the squad, while watch out for the emerging midfield talents of Kuu, Myung-Bo and Ajun. The true footballing star of this team, however, is Batou Nakamura, who has thirty-one caps and six goals to his name already at the tender age of twenty-four. His performances will surely light up the Starblaydi midfield, and his link-ups with Kuu, Lubii and Tze-Shu could make the difference between a Starblaydi side just here for the noodles and a Starblaydi side who will challenge for the title.

Sufficed to say, sign-ups are now closed, and since only 5 teams are coming out, here's your lovely schedule of the week!

The Han will not be competing for the trophy this season (*surprise surprise*)! Instead, we will have a simple double header round robin tournament, with the champion going on to play a ceremonial final match against the Han team in the to-be-newly-constructed Cha Beomgeun Memorial Football Stadium. All of this in preparation for the BoF to be held eventually.

Since it's a simple round robin format (and I've already done a random draw), here's your schedule:

Taeshan TAE
Starblaydia STR
Sokojito and Sokojiwa SKS
Karayid KTT

MD1 (Monday 12 May 2008)
TAE --- SKS
STR --- KTT

MD2 (Tuesday 13 May 2008)
KTT --- TAE
SKS--- STR

MD3 (Wednesday 14 May 2008)
TAE --- STR
KTT --- SKS

MD4 (Friday 16 May 2008)
SKS --- TAE
KTT--- STR

MD5 (Saturday 17 May 2008)
TAE --- KTT
STR --- SKS

MD6 (Sunday 18 May 2008)
STR --- TAE
SKS --- KTT

FINAL MATCH
HAN --- ???*

??? is champion regardless of the final match result.

If we come to a tiebreaker, we will employ the following rules of preference:

1 - Points (duh... we wouldn't have a tiebreaker if this weren't true)
2 - Wins (gotta win 'em first)
3 - GD (good offense and good defense)
4 - GF (better offense)
5 - H2H (did you beat each other up?)
6 - Grand Battle Royale, gongfu style (if the numbers can't separate you, we'll have your captains sign a death waiver and a death match will be assigned - needless to say, the winning captain gets to pick which team is the champion)

That said, let the RPs roll!

Next Game
Our glorious tribe will be facing a regional neighbor who have recently caused a stir in the politics at home as even the sultans vast armies have begun to fear the might of Starblaydia.

But in terms of football, yes thats right the sport where eleven men chase a round ball round a green park. Well they are obviously more experienced but one place where we should almost certainly have an advantage, strength years in the vast steppe is not a kind life and we have become powerful through it.

This team also use women in their teams A disgrace for women to be representing their nations at something other than home keeping even the dirtiest of society know not to show their women in public, I mean look what the Turks did to our mothers and their mothers. Every generation the Turks have attempted to weaken our blood lines though them and all women have done that was good was provide us with heirs.

Now that our disgust has been shown we should expect a highly aggressive team to be fielded.

OOC: on the women part I do not mean to cause offense it's just keeping to the levels of advancement of the tribe.

Match 1 - MBC Perspectives and Prospectives

Well, it's time to admit it. We won't win our own cup again for the fifth Season standing. But at least it won't be because our team sucks; instead, it's because we're not "allowed" to win it. There are a number of reasons, according to the IFA. Not enough people signed to make it a real contest. An odd number joined. The Imperial Team doesn't need that much practice. We've got to take care of the BoF! Oh my gosh, that's all that's on people's minds - the %$#^ing BoF. What the %$#^ is a BoF anyway?

Well, we'll leave that for another time. Because instead of the brilliant Han leading the charge, we've got defending champions Sokojito and Sokojiwa facing against Taeshan. We're glad to see that most of the contestants are familiar with the Han Empire (and likewise in return). The sole exception being of course the Karayids, sponsored by the Kose and the Turkmans FA. Apparently, they're pretenders to the Weon Dynasty (pretenders as in "challenging the claim of authority made by" the Weon (Yuan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuan_Dynasty)) Dynasty). They'll be an interesting side. We've received notifications from all of the teams coming here except from Sokojito and Sokojiwa - doubtless, they'll be arriving late again...

So away from perspective to prospective. Taeshan (TAE) and Sokojito and Sokojiwa (SKS): SKS will take this win - how so? Well, if they send a team that is. Otherwise, TAE will have an empty goal to face, and we all know what happens when you stick 11 players in front of an empty goal... they all shoot and miss, except for maybe one or two, and they inadvertently shoot in the other direction. It always happens, so you really just don't know who might win it anyway. And the second match being Starblaydia (STR) and Karayid (KTT): We really don't know. STR will be aching for a first win in the tournament, since they're aiming to make up for an average finish last time around. Meanwhile KTT will look to improve on their performance with this pretender squad. Maybe we could get some of our Monggols (double "g" is intentional, because in Korean, it's "Mong-gol") to face against them and see who these pretenders are. In any case, we can see a narrow victory for the side that has the better feet (and having only seen Starblaydian feet, we can't judge for the Karayids). Well - we're going to go on a limb here:

TAE 1-3 SKS
STR 2-2 KTT

Take it or leave it; just be sure to clean up the place after you're done with it.

Girls On Top
Jae, Lubii, Fenny, Karinha planning end to misogyny

It was World Cup 25, some forty years after Starblaydia began competing internationally, that the first female broke into Starblaydia's - up until then - male-only side. Her name was Cherry Garcia, and she was one of the finest right-wingers Starblaydia have ever produced. Seventy-six times, she played, scoring sixteen goals on the World Stage. She's in the World Cup Hall of Fame and listed as the number one inspiration for a large percentage of the female footballers in the world today. Cherry was part of the side that lifted the World Cup itself during that tournament, part of an astonishingly-talented midfield that included the legendary Menecrates and Surachai Buathiang. She also won two tournaments in the world's premier regional footballing competition, the Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football. By herself, she has done more for football than the entire nation of Karayid chauvinists.

And she was only the first.

Jade Matranga, Dasha Tolacheva, Paola Mendez, Tabitha Di Bradini, Jacqueline Maitland, Betanii Marrone and Apollina Iakovakis, those simply the more-famous ones: an entire team of Starblaydi women could be fielded from across the years that could beat this Karayid side with one hand tied behind their collective backs. Starblaydia's women - and men too- will be fighting to prove they're right. Not just to win a match, or a tournament, but to prove that gender equality is the right way to play. And if, as is rumoured, the Karayid side will be particularly tough on the female players - starting Captain Jae Chang-hwa and top-scorer by-a-mile Lubii especially - then that's precisely whu Lex Panarii will have Vega Matranga and Wen Tze-Shu in the side. Jack Stafador and the two tough Dwarves will also be able to take to the field as a roving reserve of crunching tacklers.

One thing is for sure, for every challenge the Karayid will make, there will be one from a Starblaydi to swiftly follow in righteous retribution. Quite whether they can match Starblaydia's skill, however, has yet to be proven.

What is proven in this tournament, however, is the prowess of Sokojito and Sokojiwa, the current defending champions of the Oriental Football Cup. Optimistic Starblaydi pundits point to a tussle between the two sides for the championship, with Taeshan and Karayid trying to avoid the wooden spoon. Starblaydia versus Daehanjeiguk in the exhibition match at the end of the tournament? Don't bet against it.

In a surprising win over professionals Starblaydia, our part timer team with only two professionals went on the offensive early with Ganbataar's 12th minute goal sealing the deal after the shameful women of Starblaydia failed, as the Khan said they would perhaps they will resign themselves to keeping their families house rather then competing against us men of superior strength and honor. Now we look to defeat a nation calling itself Taeshan and they will be honorable in their eventual defeat.

Right now, they're the only winning team, as Sokojito and Sokojiwa battled Taeshan to a 2-2 draw. At least everyone is sending players to play this year.

Lex Panarii will be under pressure at home to make some needed changes ahead of their contest against Sokojito and Sokojiwa. The "girl's squad" - so called because of the large number of females on the first team - made a diligent show of play while falling out to the early strike by the Pretender (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretender) Monggols. The Karayids showed no mercy pounding onto the box in the 12th minute, while failing to make any more serious attempts on the Starblaydian goal box; they'll look to continue their impressive show against Taeshan. Sokojito and Sokojiwa will also look to make a positive start after an uneventful draw against Taeshan. The defending champions will look to make good on their claim to the OFC Dragon this season. Taeshan, on the other hand, will look to make their mark against the Karayid team, showing some finesse in their match against Sokojito and Sokojiwa. They'll need all of the finesse again to beat out the Pretenders.

ooc: I'm not poking fun at anyone, nor should anyone perceive it as poking fun. I'm very pleased that - though small in number - there is significant activity by the participating members in the tournament.

Starblaydia rebound to defeat Champs SKS

After Matchday One, Starblaydi fans, players and even the staff and manager were unsure as to what was the more concerning outcome of their match against Karayid: The One or the Nil.

Conceding a goal to a previously totally unknown team who have some relation to Baptism of Fire Runners-Up Kose and The Turkomans is nothing to be too worried about, as anyone can score a goal, it just takes a second and a piece of luck. The piece of luck in question was the referee deciding that a knee-high tackle by Tugsbayar on Starblaydi Captain Jae Chang-hwa was acceptable, shortly before deciding that a reciprocal tackle on Tugsbayar by Vega Matranga wasn't. A free-kick duly followed to the men in black and gold and, as Chang-hwa lay injured on the ground, the penalty area was flooded with Karayid players, of which Ganbataar rose highest to bundle the ball in with his head. Starblaydia were certainly not happy about it, but, as they say, that's life.

It proved to be Karayid's only real assault on the Starblaydi goal, though more than a few assaults on the players were still forthcoming. Starblaydia testde Gantumur's goalkeeping time and again, though no there was no breakthrough for the rest of the match, leaving Starblaydia scoreless. Daymon Callind went close at the end, with the substitute powering a header at Gantumur in stoppage time that the Karayid professional (one of only two in the squad) clawed away onto the post and out to safety. Lubii and Chong-sun both had good opportunities to score, but were denied by goalie, defenders and poor finishing.

How could Starblaydia, a team with many World Cup veterans in the side, bounce back from such a poor result against a hitherto unknown side? The answer was simple: just try again. Starblaydia faced the defending champions of this tournament in their second match, yet another team with intentions only to attack. Starblaydia, however, don't seem to be bothered whether they are seen as a super-offensive or super-defensive side, playing a 3-5-2 that can only be described as 'balanced', with three players back, three in the midfield and three up front, with Nakamura given license to play pretty much wherever he likes at any given time. Though he seemed to go missing amidst the Karayid physical onslaught, the game against Sokojito and Sokojiwa was much more to his liking, with their 3-4-3 formation providing him with a little extra room out wide which he, Kuu and Il-Ajun used to much profit.

It was a Nakamura cross from not-quite the corner flag out wide on the right that gave Starblaydia their first goal, a counter-attack that started with Tze-shu's excellent tackling in the midfield. That young man is certainly developing into an excellent holding midfielder, and is certainly on-course to pick a starting #4 spot in a future World Cup - if not '41 then perhaps '42. Nakamura raced away down the flanks with Çwe Hyo-ha in hot pursuit, and when some thought he had over-hit a ball to go out for a goal kick, Nakamura produced an extra burst of speed to catch the ball before it went out. His cross was pin-point and, after he'd picked himself up from crashing into the advertising boards, was there to celebrate a headed goal from Lubii, who had nipped into the box ahead of Gwaŋ Hyo-gyo and neatly directed the header across the face of goal and into the back of the net at the tightest of angles. Things got a little bit better for Starblaydia when Lii Chong-sun, Lubii's strike partner, drilled a low shot into the bottom left hand corner past the despairing dive of Çu Gwaŋ-yūŋ, having been set up by Chen Myung-Bo.

Two goals down, Sokojito and Sokojiwa tried to drag themselves back into the game. ʼWaŋ Hwaŋ-an and Gi Sa-na both went close as SKS gradually came into the game more, inching Starblaydia back into their own half of the pitch as the first period came to a close. It was No Būm-mo who made the breakthrough, however, latching on to an ʼIm Sa-mi through-ball to fire into the top corner. Starblaydia were wobbling, but the half-time whistle came just in time for them, with Lex Panarii having time to re-organise and adjust his game-plan to take account of the SKS resurgence. Starblaydia came out of the blocks at speed in the second half, forcing Çu Gwaŋ-yūŋ into a succession of saves. The decisive goal came with around twenty minutes to go, coming from Jaime Kuu. The youngster - who has asked to keep his club shirt number of #5 he wears for Raynor City - is obviously learning his trade from some of the best in the world in Elves Security Forces and after being played down the line by Arkady Kaneda, he produced a neat one-two with Namakura and broke into the box with pace and power. He could have looked for the pass to Lubii or substitute Di Bradini, but instead smashed the ball him with a flourish. It seemed to be the goal that killed off any further real SKS challenges for a goal, and propelled Starblaydia to second in the table behind the 100% Karayid side. After the Taeshan match, the cycle begins again, and Starblaydia will be doing their best to come out on top after each and every remaining Matchday.

4-0
A dominating performance over a distinctly lackluster Taeshan who are thew second team to have fallen to our inexperienced and by far inferior team but we are looking in good shape at the top of the table. As the Il-Khan said the people of Taeshan would fall, but the teams shaman has said that Dagva's injuries are now beyond even his intervention and has been sent to a hospital. The Scorers:

As the Il-Khan leads us on the road of victory we prepare to face our first adversaries on a high after Ganbataar headed in another goal against another nation who have fallen up against our power. Now we face our Kit makers Starblaydia.

Title Destiny Out Of Our Hands
Starblaydia three points behind Karayid

Starblaydia became the first team in four matches to stop the Karayid Horse Archer side from winning, but in a scintillating three-all draw, it means that Starblaydia must win their last two matches and hope that the Mongols lose to either of the two remaining teams they play.

No-one has been able to stop the Karayid offense from firing, probably because they're big and strong and we've never seen them before. Starblaydi and, to a certain extent, CapitaliZt players will have been seen many-a-time on international and domestic football round-ups, giving any opposition manager with a VCR or DVDR the ability to study and research the playing time. This bunch of amateurs, however, are fresh to the international scene, and appear to be mixing it up with thud and blunder against the professionals.

Starblaydia kept themselves in the driving seat after a storming three-nil win over Taeshan, with two goals coming from Lubii and a third from Nakamura. The match against the Karayid, however, proved much more exciting to the neutral as goals came from all over the pitch, notably from young defensive midfielder Wen Tze-Shu, Captain Jae Chang-hwa and veteran striker Lii Chong-sun. Goals came in return, however, from Tugsbayar and a brace from Ganbataar. The fate of the 5th Oriental Football Cup is now firmly in the hands of the Karayid, and a win and a draw will be enough to give them the title and send them into the exhibition match against Daehanjeiguk themselves. Starblaydia will be trying their best to keep pace, looking for six points from the next two games. With results like that, and a little hope, anything is possible, perhaps even a first international trophy for Starblaydi in thirty years.

We have the power
While we could have sealed the deal last night we felt that we should keep the thrill of the chase, well Starblaydia did but we still very much have the initiative in the race to win but with a team on our tale we might just have more fun. Our team of amateurs have made quite a rampage here and we shall look to come one step closer to the title.

Who will win the Tournament?

Well, it's a nail-biting question (and I've already bitten off my nails), but we're still waiting for the final results. Unfortunately, it's been one disappointing tour for Sokojito and Sokojiwa, who now have no hope to win the tournament. The Karayid Monggols seem to be in great shape, set to win the Cup with just a draw. Starblaydia remain the only real threat, and must win against Taeshan in order to have any hope to win the Cup at all. A simple win and a loss by the Karayids to Sokojito and Sokojiwa will be enough to secure the win; but with the current form of all the teams involved, it might be a more difficult reality than it would seem. For the victor, the Dragon Cup awaits them, and a chance to face the Han team at the end (ceremonial of course... not that the DBC U-21 team is going to be any more fantastic than the National Team...).

Commemorative Final Match

HAN 4-1 KTT

Well, if it counted, we would have won our own cup! But gratz to the Karayid Monggols for winning the OFC5! We strongly suggest that the Karayids be admitted to the World Cup Qualifying squad, since it seems that these players have what it takes to win a chance.
