I'd be interested in doing this. I used to commish a baseball league here years ago and haven't RPed sports much since. That being said, how do you guys run this? Write-ups after? What data goes into the "scorinator" or is it 100% random? If I get in on this, I'd post a formal bid to host it as well.

Septentrionia, anything on your host bid?
Right now we got 18 teams, which is more than enough for me, if i was the host (anything over 16 is great), and I hoping for 20 before i decide to try to call for a host vote.

Quazox, do you have any sort of dates for this to get going?
I'm not trying to rush you, just trying to work out what my priorities for team bio's are.

I'm hoping to get this started around May 1st or so, just about the time the World Cup is nearing an end.

I'm calling off the Host bids. Hosts will have 48 hours to post the following:
What type of scorinator they are using.
How the groups will be (depending on # of signups)
and Going off the May 1st date for sign-ups closed a schedule of when the event will be scorinated.
Qazox' Host Bid
Scorinator: The same scorinator Kelssek has used the for the last 2 World Cups of Hockey.
Groups: All groups single round-robin format. If 18 teams, 3 groups of 6, top 2 in group plus 2 best 3rd place teamsadvance to Quarters. If 20 teams, 4 groups of 5, top 2 in each advance to quarters. Ties to be broken by the following: H2H record, Goal Differential, Goals Scored, Goals scored in regulation. Each match will be 3 periods with single OT. no shoot outs. Playoffs are as follows: Quarterfinals and Semifinals: Best 2 of 3, Finals best 3 of 5, 3rd place match: single game.
Tenative Schedule:
May 3rd-7th or 8th; First Round Games.
May 10th-12th: Quarterfinals
May 13th-15th: Semifinals
May 16th-20th: Finals
May 18th: 3rd place game

Septentrionian hosting bid:
[logo to come later, too tired to make one]
Scorinator: same as the original WCoH's
Groups: I'd like an even amount of groups if possible, so if there are 20 teams, 4 groups of 5 in a double round robin. No OT. Amount of points awarded: 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie/draw, 0 for a loss. Tie breaking: Wins, Goals for, Goals differential
Playoffs: Top three from each group advance to the playoffs. Here's the format that would be used:
First round:
First-placed teams are getting a bye straight to the quarter-finals. Second and third-placed teams will be placed in two separate pots and matchups will be done that way. Single-match elimination, OT then shootouts
Quarterfinals:
Another draw will be held to determine who plays who. Winners from the first round in a pot and first-placed teams in another. The draw will determine who plays each other for the remaining of the playoffs. Single-match elimination, OT then shootouts
Semifinals:
Same as quarterfinals, except that the teams are already seeded
Final and 3rd place playoffs:
Same as semifinals, except that the winner of the final gets the World Cup of Hockey and the 3rd place playoff winner is... well, 3rd
Other important things:
No schedule yet, but expect this to start as soon as we have 20 countries entering, with games being simmed every day. There will be a one day break between the first half and the second half of the group stage (note that friendlies can be staged), another two days break between the group stage and the playoffs, one of these days will be used to draw the matchups. Once again, friendlies will be possible during these break days. As well, a RP bonus will be used to incite people to actually role-play. The bonus will be applied on whether there's an RP or no and its quality. Finally, rankings used will be done following the same formula I used in the first three WCoHs (I'll unveil them when I've done them)
EDIT: The scorinator used is the one used by me in WCoH2, not in 1 ;)
We'll try for our first attempt.

As a first time participant I didn't know I *had* a vote until now.
In my opinion, the Qazox proposal is far superior with best of 3 and best of 5 series at the end, and a lack of shootouts. I hate the shootout.
So, Qazox gets my vote.

Septentrionia for hosting.
My vote's for Septentrionia, although I'm not sure why both host bids are so against shoot-outs.
Too be honest, I'm against Shoot-outs (traditionalist) while Sept is For shoot-outs.
The host vote so far is:
Septentrionia- 5
Qazox- 1
I concede the hosting to Septentrionia. But I will try to host WCoH VII!!!!
Sorry Franco-Vanier, unless Septentrionia lets you in.
OOC: With this post, I have moved into the TOP 500 all time on Jolt for posts. Only 97,026 more post until I am #1! (also I'm #3 all time for Q's)

Thanks, but I have already conceded to Septentrionia.
So any time you want to start, is fine by me.

Sept: What are the rules as far as RPing goes? Does the winner write it? First come, first serve? What are you looking for?
Septentrionia
02-05-2008, 03:15
In Sports RPing, rules are first come first serve. You might have noticed that some people have RP permissions posted. You may RP according to these when posted. When not posted, you may assume the other nation agrees to whatever or ask him about anything that might "hurt" his chances to win (injure a player, sending him off because of a game misconduct, etc). Your best bet would be to look at this read-only wiki article: http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/sports_roleplaying.html

Sounds good to me. When do you think this will be getting underway? And are you going to post the scores in the thread? I really don't check my telegrams often.

It's all in the RP thread, but Saturday is the start and yes scores are posted in the RP thread.

It's a very minor detail type thing with no bearing on how things will play out, but....
According to the stadiums, two groups are playing on "national league" ice surface, and two more are on an international league surface. This would never be permitted in the real world, and all groups should be playing on the same size rink.
Being it is an international competition, that is the configuration that should be used.
Septentrionia
05-05-2008, 06:18
The ice format is simply for RP purposes. I've actually never heard of such a rule, and I'm an avid ice hockey fan, seeing as I'm living in Canada. But now that the cup has begun, it's too late to change I guess. But considering teams are playing on the same kind of ice for the 8 group stage games, I guess it won't be different so much RP-wise
BTW if any of the teams that are losing feel bad, read this Box Score between the Armenian and Mexican National Hockey Teams from 2005..

NOW THAT IS AN ASS-WHUPPING.
Kinda puts it into perspective, somewhat, right?

Just wondering, how are hockey rankings (the numbers beside the nations at the beginning of the tournament) created and/or determined?
