The Formula One sign up thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=13609120#post13609120)

As the title suggests, I'm interested in bringing (back) a Formula 1 season to NationStates.

At the moment I'm not guaranteeing anything will happen, I'm trying to get the race scoring sorted out before I get anywhere near a sign up thread. That being said, I'd like to know if there's interest in the community for this.

No specifics just yet, and no commitment, but do you fancy it?

Interested: 13

I would be very interested in this, both submitting a team and hosting an event.

...hosting an event.

If this goes ahead I'm definitely going to want to use tracks in participating nations. I'm not sure how much of a hosting role it'll be though, I think I'll score the races (to avoid sending the spreadsheets everywhere and explaining them all). I reckon it could get a good atmosphere going if the participants are in charge of hosting in terms of RP.

We'll see.

I'm pleased to see some interest early on, I hope it keeps up.

Portsmouthshire would be interested.

Is that a puppet? I don't mind having puppets in the actual competition, but there's no need signing the interest thread twice :)

[OOC]
No, Southamptonshire and Portsmouthshire are not run by the same person.

Yeah that is what I figured you would control the scoring and what not, but nations could host races, giving details on the track where it is layout etc. Hey if we get enough people we may even be able to bid to host tracks as I presume you will only want limited number of tracks. I too hope that the interest keeps up.

Thanks for the interest guys, I think it's safe to say that if this keeps up we'll definitely get this going.

Blouman Empire: Yeah, if there are too many people wanting to host tracks we'll have to come up with a hosting solution. I'd say for the first season I'm looking at about 10, maybe 15 at the top end, races.
If it's a success, it'll be back shortly after though, so don't worry about a short(ish) season.

OOC Portsmouthshire would never be a puppet of Southamptonshire. We are seperate entities. :D

Well, if you really want it, if I'm right, I got a scorinator from the previous NSF1 season. But the only thing is, that I don't quite understand all it's functions, so you can't really ask me for help in this. :p

Anywyas, expect me coming in with my Monteluci SFS F1 team, and one or two tracks that I have worked out. Quite long tracks, that is, but it should work.

I have the same spreadsheet, courtesy of LiverpoolEngland. I'm making amendments (making it easier to use really) for the first Championship, and I'm working with someone else to try and develop a whole new scorinator for Championship 2 and on.

Considering the interest (over 10 participants) I'm going to go ahead with this. Expect to see a sign up thread in the next 24 hours guys, I'll link it here obviously.

So, we need to enter points for aerodynamics, cornering and reliability again? and this will all be conform F1 2008 rules?

Yes on the Aero, Cornering and Reliability point. About the rules, I guess so. I don't see how that factors into the scorinating, but we can assume those rules apply.

Well, the rules thing is just for technical reference. That means that I need to have a 2.4l V8 and not a 3l V10. And some other things. Just to make my deisgn complete. Not that it counts in terms of points anyways..

Yeah, in that case we'll be following F1 2008 rules.

I think I've pretty much got the scorinator fixed up, though I do curse "xLOOKUP" tables with every bone in my body.

We'll be back. And as usual will be more than happy to provide two races to the season, as we've done for the past few seasons (as the GP of The Heartland and the GP of Liverpool England).

On the rules bit:
The spreadsheet isn't capable to handle three separate qualifying sessions. It does use the traditional qualifying format of 12 laps, fastest counts.

Also, the past few seasons have seen points given out more liberally, rather than according to F1's standard 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.

And if you're indeed making a new scorinator, please make it with someone who understands motorsport, and not someone with no knowledge other than the only driver from his country in F1 is Mark Webber.
