Ofedestan National Football League

Today the government of Ofedestan decided that, due to popular demand and a fragile economy, an Ofedestan National Football league would be started. Teams from all over Ofedestan will play each other in a round robin competition. The aim of the competition is to find a World Cup squad for WC 41(Here in ofedestan we like to start preparing early). The teams will soon be announced in each region that wishes to participate.

Naming Competition Winner Announced
Firstly, we'd like to thank all of the people who submitted a team name for the our representative at WC41. We have had a very hard time selecting the winnner. However, someone has to, so our vote has fallen on a couple of people's suggestion of the

Jets

But one person (you should know who you are) took it even further. This person came up with a name for a newsletter about the team, progress at the WC, and pre-match preparations. So here it is, the first ever edition of...

Heavy rain delays first ONFL match

The first match of the ONFL has regrettably been delayed by heavy rain. It has been raining all night, and is still going. The pitch was judged to be far too wet, and since the players would be relatively new to each other and the pitches (and even the ONFL) it was decided to postpone the matches until tomorrow. The weather forecast is set to improve this afternoon for a fine day tomorrow, for the first ever ONFL match. Some stadiums are expected to be full to capacity. This seems to be just what the Ofedestani economy needs to bring back some cash into the national coffers.

Strips being decided upon
Another important aspect of preparations for the WC41 is figuring out the national team's strip colours, and who will supply them. There has been some debate as to the colours and arrangement of strips. But it seems that a settlement has been reached as to who will supply them. After having a look at different companies' offers, it was decided that ediraf seemed to be the most trusted brand, used by Starblaydia, the host of the last WC. Once the colours have been decided upon, an order will be placed for the strips.

Matchday One Results

The first day of match play in the ONFL has finished. We will have an overview of each match.

HARRIS PARK, DEFALIA:

Dervishes 3 vs Nuggets 0

(HT 1-0)

Both sides had about equal-strength attackers, but Defalia's Cortez triplets held off almost all the Northwestern attacks, and the rest were scooped up by the goalie. NW's defenders weren't that good, so let in one goal at 24, another at 54, and committed an own goal at 86, after Feren booted the ball at a NW defender, bouncing it off him into the goal. It is not known whether this was deliberate.

End Result:
Dervishes 3 (Dinde (24) , Johnson (54) , Wilpert (86)(OG from Feren)) Nuggets 0.

TITANIUM CITY STADIUM, TIP:
Titans 4 vs Sharks 3

(HT 2-1)

It was a goal-fest here in Titanium City, with both sides scoring high. Tip had great attackers, especially in the center, but their wing defenders were appalling, a fact that Stradia managed to exploit, especially in the 2nd half.

End Result:
Titans 4 (Young (7, 68), Hind(42, 58)) Sharks 3 (Davis (44), Hildred(64, 72))

(more tomorrow)

CHURCHILL STADIUM, SOUTHWEST:

Harpoons 3 vs Sentinels 1

(HT 3-0)

The team from Harbour proved that state size is no barrier to football performance, with a decisive 3-1 win over the Sentinels. Their extremely talented team managed to rack up three straight goals, all in the first half, but the Sentinels managed to score a consolation and hold off the Harpoons for the rest of the match.

End Result:
Harpoons 3 (Gifuno(9), D.Heatley(23), Denido(41)) Sentinels 1(Jamison(59))

STRADIA SUPER STADIUM:

Superheroes 1 vs Champions 1(1-1)
An extremely exciting match between two talented teams was played here at the newly refurbished Stradia Super Stadium. It was hard to distinguish a clear winner, hence the score. The ball went between defenders mostly, and only a few goal attempts were made. But these did lead to 1 goal apiece from well-practised strikers.

End Result:
Superheroes 1(Aguantos(48)) Champions 1(Kelleher(36))

ANDROID ARENA, UNGBA:

Androids 3 vs Sapphires 2 (1-2)
The Sapphires' attackers would have scored many goals here, if they didn't have to cut back to 2, for 2 goals. Their defence was so bad a whopping 38 attempts were made at the South Central goal. Even two goalies cant stop all of those(and they kept banging in to each other) so managed to let in 3.

End Result:
Androids 3(Watson (35, 49), Crawford(67)) Sapphires 2(Boyle(27), Marscapone(41))

CLARK PARK, EASTERN:

Energy 4 vs Conquistadors 2 ( 2-1)
The Energy had a good win at home today, confidently beating the Conquistadors in an impressive all-round display from both teams, but Eastern just had that edge that brought them the win. A lucky striker managed a hat-trick.

End Result:
Energy 4 (Gibbs(18), Yuen(36, 64,78)) Conquistadors 2 (Harrison(37), Taylor(84))

Matchday 2 Results
WILSON MEMORIAL STADIUM, HARBOUR:

Harpoons 1 vs Superheroes 2 (1-1)

The first half was Stradia-dominated with the Superheroes scoring an early goal, and driving in to Harbour's half. An exciting fluke goal just before half time equalised the score. The Superheroes clinched the win in the 2nd half after dominating again.

End Result:
Harpoons 1(P.Heatley(43)) Superheroes 2(Tosh(7), Aguantos(83))

HIGGS PARK, CENTRAL:

Conquistadors 0 vs Dervishes 2 (0-0)

Those Cortez's once again proved themselves unbeatable in a 2-0 away win for the Dervishes. No goals in the first half with both defenders proving rock solid, before the 2nd half opened the scoring for the Dervishes.

End Result:
Conquistadors 0 vs Dervishes 2(Oldfield(67), Dinde(75))

CHURCHILL STADIUM, SOUTHWEST:

Sentinels 1 vs Titans 4 (2-0)

The Titans' great attackers were doing well in Churchill today, managing to rack up 4 goals against the Sentinels, who once again scored a consolation at the end of a Tip-dominated match.

End Result:
Sentinels 1(Miller(77)) Titans 4 (Hind(18, 37), Young(24), Sempra(29))

Sharks 2-1 Sapphires (1-0)

The Sapphires' 2 goalies who like bumping in to each other ave oce again let in goals, though not as many due to them learning, and a not quite as good team. But their two good attackers did manage to rack up one goal against the Sharks, towards the end of the match.

End Result:
Sharks 2(Hildred(32), Davis(61)) Sapphires 1 (Marscapone(86))

HIGGS PARK, CENTRAL(Match 2):

Champions 5-1 Nuggets

A great win for the Champions at home today. They seemed to be one of the best teams, while the Nuggets were keyed to be close to last place in the ONFL. This was echoed in this match, which was going Central's way, including a hat trick for Kelleher, up until the consolation scored in injury time.

End Result:

Huge Donation to Energy
An anonymous millionare has recently gifted thousands of dollars to the ONFL team the Energy. It has often been debated whether anonymous donations to soccer teams should be allowed in the country, but for now, it is still legal. As for what the Energy are going to spend it on, they have told us that they wish to perhaps buy a player from another team or country. They are currently in talks with various other countries, including New Cimeran.

Break Day Team Review
Break day means a chance to review the teams' current preformance in the ONFL.

We have the:

Dervishes, top of the table, are dominated by it's 3 great Cortez brothers, who have been the main reason for its 2-game clean sheet. Their attackers are not to be discredited either.

Titans, who remain narrowly ahead of the Energy on goals scored, have some of the best attackers in Ofedestan. Their wing defence is applaing, though, and teams have used this to score more goals against them.

Energy, who have just received a large donation from an anonymous millionare, have Yuen, a brilliant striker, who scored a hat-trick in the first match. They will be looking for players from other cuntries, because they have got some money to play with.

Champions, who, along with the Superheroes, seem to be the most talented teams in the league, are ahead of the Superheroes by 3 goals, mainly because their second match was against the rather easy Nuggets.

Superheroes, who are also one of the top picks to win the league, have the great Aguantos, who has scored impressively in both matches. They remain behind the Champions because they had to face the Harpoons in their second match.

Harpoons, who are trying to prove that just because they are small doesn't mean that their foot ballers are bad. They did well in the first match, confidently beating the Sentinels 3-1. Their 2nd match as against the even better Superheroes, which puts them back a while.

Sharks, who are not as good as their fellow statesmen the Superheroes, but are good at exploiting the opponent's weaknesses, especially in the 2nd half, after having a chance to get used to them. They did this especially well in the 1st math against the Titans.

Androids from Ungba have done OK in the league so far, especially in the 1st match, where a whopping 38 attempts were made on the South Central goal. Their best striker is Watson, who has scored 3 goals so far.

Sapphires, whose 2 goalies have caused controversy nationwide, have great strikers, but only 2 of them, which was due to having to cut back to increase the defence, which is appalling. They are the best team out of those who haven't won yet.

Conquistadors, who are usually overshadowed by their great-doing statesmen the Champions. They did not too badly in the first match, but in the second they faced the Dervishes' rock-solid defence.

Sentinels, who are only the Nuggets away from bottom of the table, seem to be good at scoring consolations at the end of the match. This has brought them the two goals they do have. They might be faring better if they faced an easier team.

Nuggets, bottom of the table, have an extremely poor goal difference, and facing them is almost always good news for their opposition, because it means a chance to cheaply improve their goal difference. Their only goal came from Hobson.

Energy Choose Marsier
The Eastern Energy have made a decision as to which player they will buy with the thousand dollar donation. Their decision fell on to New Cimeran's goalie, Erland Marsier. Their current goalie, Johnathon Flint, will be subbed. You may remember New Cimeran from WC40. Erland has since been on a training course to improve his skills, which included being shot at for 3 hours straight (with balls, not bullets), which means he has improved immensely since the World Cup effort. This new signing will surely boost the Energy ahead of their match against the Titans.

National Team Selection Cut Short
The selection period for the national team has just been decreased due to time constraints. The selectors will visit Matchday 3, and also watch some teams practicing. the ONFL will also be put on hold during the World Cup.

Conquistadors 2-5 Champions

Titans 1-2 Energy

These two teams were always evenly matched, and we always knew that the result of this match would be close. But the addition of a new star goalie to the Eastern side tipped the scales sufficiently in their favour to pull off a win. The Titans were the only scorers in the first half, but the energy exploited their poor defence extremely well in the second half to score two goals.

The Dervishes have held on to their clean sheet record today with a tight 1-0 win over the Harbour Harpoons. No prizes for guessing who made that happen, yes, its those Cortez's again.
