Illegal Vessel Revealed, Insurgency Next?

In a shocking statement to the public, Director of Public Relations Eric Esthar (http://209.85.48.8/237/117/upload/p701764.jpg) acknowledged to the media today that the Imperial fleet encountered a rouge starship (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12397707&postcount=26) of tremendous power within Orion Sector borders. Details of this encounter are sparse, but it is known that neither side engaged in direct hostilities, and that the ship, with advanced cloaking capabilities, is still at large. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12399260&postcount=28) Esthar assured the shocked public that every effort would be made to track down the vessel, however many members of the media seemed far more frightened than convinced.

To further complicate things, the vessel is reported to be manned by Lord Lusec Apakoh (http://209.85.48.8/237/117/upload/p696082.png), a decorated captain of the Orion Civil War ten years prior, and current governor of the Imperial planet Aeisis (http://www.nationstates.net/aeisis). Lord Apakoh’s actions highlight an odd contradiction in Imperial law, which both gives nobles the right to a personal fleet and army, while at the same time outlawing all non-Imperial armed vessels for personal use.

Reportedly, Lord Apakoh was ordered to hand over the vessel to Imperial authorities, but refused, leading to the inconclusive encounter last week. What this means for the Empire is unclear, but the act of defiance has left many scared for their own safety throughout Orion. Rumors of Lord Apakoh’s ship, including weapons and its actual size, have placed the vessel at impossibly large proportions and capability.

These rumors seem to be substantiated by the fact that the two largest Imperial fleets, the 1st and the 4th, together failed to engage before Lord Apakoh’s ship reportedly recloaked and vanished from sensors. Orion waits on the edge of its seat for further information.

Kairos Inc. Unveils New “Fenrir” Military Armor

Mega-Corporation Kairos Inc. today unveiled their new production line for the proposed update to the Imperial Military Battle Armor design. The armor is highly lightweight and has performed exemplary in tests, giving even elite solders the strength and flexibility required. Fenrir armor is a tight-fitting body glove on the inside, specifically built to stop projectile ammunition and disperse energy-based weaponry. On the outside, reinforced Oranium is placed in key areas, protecting the soldier from the other physical threats of the battlefield.

The name as well holds significant importance, for in classical times Fenrir the wolf swallowed Odin whole. This comes off as a rather blunt metaphor for Kairos Inc.’s intentions. Bivens Inc. just celebrated their centennial last year of supplying the Imperial military with battle armor, named ODIN armor.

ODIN Armor Mark III, which the Imperial Military is currently outfitted in when in high-threat environments, has been in commission for the last 15 years. It had a stellar track record up until the midpoint of the Orion Civil war, when both sides, outfitted in the same armor, began to find flaws and weaknesses in the design. Another criticism was its bulk, which cut down on troop allowance in dropships and infantry vehicles.

Bivens Inc.’s upcoming proposal, predicted to be named the ODIN Mark IV, is suspected to win the contract in the next month or so due in no small part to it being the Emperor’s personal company. However, the fact that a competing corporation spent the time and money developing and submitting a counter-proposal could mean changes for the Imperial Military.

“Competition is what the Empire needs,” Roman Kairos, President and CEO of Kairos Inc. (http://209.85.48.8/237/117/upload/p699152.png) told the media today. “A monopoly of military goods only hurts our troops. Competition lowers prices and forces corporations to raise quality. Fenrir Battle Armor sets the standard for versatility, flexibility, and protection across Orion.”

[OOC: Ok everyone this is going to be a thread I use to report the happenings within my nation so that if someone needs to know what is going on for an RP, they don't have to dredge through miles of character RP. Now, that doesn't mean that this threat itself can't turn into a RP as well, with reactions to news stories and the like, but please keep it IC people. If you do need for some reason to post an OOC comment, please denote it as such. Otherwise it will be posted in moderation for deletion. Anyhow, just think of this as The New York Times or The Wall Street Journal for the Orion Star Empire. If it happens, the OBC will let you know about it. Thanks :) ]

Imperial Envoy Visits Clairmont, Plans for Future Unknown

April 11

An Imperial Envoy, including High General Jack Valkare, Director of Public Relations Eric Esthar, and even Emperor David Bivens visited the Freehold of Clairmont (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=553594) today along with the Sprawling Dominion of Tappee. The triumvirate of nations forged the conference in a joint effort to reestablish relations that have significantly deteriorated in the last decade.

Both Tappee and Clairmont were strong military allies for the current regime during their coup which started the Orion Civil War. Tappee and Clairmont, the only two nations who, in the 2000-year history of the Empire, have ever had active military vessels within the Orion Sector, withdrew their fleets following the war. However, due to the demands of rebuilding and a policy of strict isolationism, official relations fell apart soon after victory.

Only a sole monument exists commemorating either nation, and the average Imperial citizen knows little of the massive effect Tappee and Clairmont had on the war. Without their support and assistance to the “Resistance,” the outcome of the Orion Civil War most likely would have been far different. However, upon landing on Clairmontian soil, new Director of Public Relations Eric Esthar was quick to address this issue ( http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13600486&postcount=10).

“Today, I am here to tell you that your valiant efforts in securing our homeland more than a decade ago will not be forgotten! Today, I am here to promise that you will not go unrewarded!” the Director proclaimed in a rousing speech. “Today, let us fight for whatever your cause may be.”

It is yet to be seen what comes of this meeting of former allies, but if the whole of the meeting shares Esthar’s exuberance, it is likely that a treaty of sorts will be struck before our leaders return. The two questions that remain, of course, is what kind of agreement, as well as if Emperor Bivens is supporting such a pact. The Emperor is known for his isolationist policies, and Imperial sources are quick to point out that this rekindling of relations between former allies had nothing to do with the still unresolved threat of Lord Lusec Apakoh’s rogue actions and terrifying ship.

Orion Fenrirs Ready to Swallow International Competition
http://209.85.48.8/237/117/upload/p701789.jpg

For the first time ever, the Orion Star Empire has agreed to participate in an international hockey league, known world wide as the World Cup of Hockey (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=555713). In this, the 6th installment of competition, the Empire has sent their national team, newly coined the Fenrirs, to Septentrionia to begin competition.

The Fenrir logo is a wolf with a ring in its mouth, giving the national animal of the Empire a fierce appearance that will hopefully reflect on its players. The colors of the national team are the colors of the Empire as well, black and silver being the primary colors, with blood red piping on the sleeves and seems.

Long-time coach and hockey advocate Jack Kiril was recently named coach of the international squad, free to add and remove players from his team at will. He quickly signed veteran and all-time scorer Alexei Zeitzev to the squad, immediately naming him captain. The assistants are phenom right wing Adrian Winters and lighting fast defender James Julian. Other notables include veteran Chris Mitchell, bruiser Cole Bistok, and rookie goalie Arkady Nikitin.

The Imperial team, at first glance ripe with depth, is highly talented but also highly inexperienced in international play. In their favor, the Fenrirs are grouped along side fellow newcomers Kolanderaz, Gwaine, and Kenavt. Hockey is neither the first nor second most popular sport of the Empire, and it is yet to be seen how Orion will fare in international play. A baseball powerhouse, the Empire has set the bar high for its hockey club. The results have yet to be seen.
