As the time of year when the contest will go on draws closer, it is now time for these countries to select what song they will be entering into the contest. "Well, we have had an interesting show. Don't you think so, Eddie?"

"Indeed, John, this seems to be the best WorldVision National Final we have had in Future-World!"

"Ehm, this is the first we ever had"

"I know, therefore also the best he he"

"He he he" John Dole really hated Eddie McAllens sense of humor, but as usual he didn't pretend it bothered him.

"So, should we go through the finalist while the voting is on?"

"Sure John, let's see... Finalist number one, Stars on fire with Emma Golding"

"Ugh, I really didn't like that one. It didn't seem to have any meaning"

"Nor any guitar solos"

"You're right there, Eddie"

"Finalist number two, Johnny our hero by Velvet Zink"

"Oh no, we can't let it go to WorldVision, it is sixteen minutes long!"

"You are right there, but perhaps we could blackmail the audience by threatening to play it again if they don't vote for it"

"Eddie! That would be evil, pure evil"

"Indeed, finalist number three, Freedom of Speech by Flaming Howl"

"By these three, definitely the best. However, it might boil the blood of religious people out in the world"

"Bah, who cares about them"

"Mhm... At least this one has guitar solos"

"Yeah, heavy ones as well. Finalist number four, My carpet tried to eat me by Joni Loki"

"Baby song"

"A darn funny baby song!"

"Whatever, go on will you"

"And last, but not least, finalist number five, End of the World by Capital Coin"

"The heaviest song of them, I would give my vote for them"

"Yeah, but they are perhaps a bit depressing"

"Big deal, if you look out the world, it seems a great majority of the world population is sad, so they would probably vote for it"

"Really? There are more sad people then happy?"

"Well... I think so"

"How odd..."

"Eh... everyone isn't available to retire at 12"

"They aren't?"

"No, it seems most people actually work to survive"

"Why?"

"Don't do this to me, Eddie"

"Fine, I'll check it up on the internet when I come home"

"Do that. Now, is the results fromthe voting ready?"

"In a moment. Look, the cultural minister has come up to the stage to present the winner"

"Great, let's listen"

Stay tuned...

"Sir Sir" exclaimed the liver-less servant of the Gut from Gidgegannup. The Gut himself had been hiding in his dark airport hotel room drinking to his sorrows (well that was his excuse anyway).

"What is it?"

"Just in Sir, but you've been accepted as a late entrant to the WorldVision contest! someone must be pulling some strings somewhere"

"What?"

Continue...

Up on the great stage of Futuria City Arena, the place where the whole event took place, came Cultural Minister Reeta Smith.

"Hello Future-World!" she said, her voice was heard over the entire thanks to nearly-invisible little microphone hid in her long hair.
"I'm sure you all are anxiously waiting for the results, and I can tell you, you're wait is over now!"

The entire crowd cheered at the words, in the way only crowds that are filled up with cheeriness after a whole night of warm-up cheering

"Your votes are counted, and the result are as follow:"
Behind here a large scoreboard turned up on the computer screen that covered the wall.

"On fifth place... Emma Golding with Stars on Fire"

The crowd cheered and waved their Official FuturiaVision I Finals Holo-flag currently showing the picture of Emma Golding.

"Emma Golding ey, she didn't deserve more" John Dole commented.

"For once, I have to agree" Eddie answered.

Reeta continued.
"On fourth place... Capital Coin with End of the World"

The cheering crowd clicked teh buttons changing their holo-flags to show the Capital Coin pictures

"What!?" John shouted. "Fourth place? THis is an outrage!"

"I told you they where to depressing"

"That really helps. But be quiet now, she's going to tell us the number three"

"And on third place, Joni Loki with My Carpet Tried to Eat Me"

"Puh, there goes a monkey of my back. If he had won, we would become a bigger joke then the Mallatar donkey"

"I don't know John, I actually liked him"

"The donkey?"

"No, Loki"

"Yeah, I know you had the mind of a four-year old"

"And on the first place..." Reeta said mysteriously.

"Oh no, think of it is Velvet Zink!" John said worried.

"A sixteen minute song, the Khenians would kill us!"

"On the first place we have..." Reeta said again "Flaming Howl with Freedom of Speech!"

The cheer of the crowd could probably be heard in every corner of Future-World.

"Flaming Howl eh... Did you like them?"

"Indeed John, Freedom of Speech is a great way of expresing the Futurian Liberty"

"I didn't even know you knew such words"

"Very funny John, but be quiet, their up on stage to perform again!"

Finalist:
Freedom of Speech, by Flaming Howl.

(OOC: thanks, so I'll participate)

There was a huge excitement towards the contest that would decide the group and song that would go to Khenas to participate in the world finals of the WorldVision. The contest was divided in three days, each of them with the participation of different groups with different music styles. After that, the decision was divided in three parts:

1- an internet poll. The winner of this stage wins 2 points / 2nd wins 1 point.

2- famous musicians that weren't participating voted in the second part. The winner wins 2 points too / 2nd wins 1 point.

3- music experts voted. In this part, the winner wins 3 points / 2nd wins 2 points.

The announcement happened in the Opala Hall Theater, the second biggest of the city of Lasft. The famous producer William Coutinho started to release the results:

"The Singing Bazalope seems so... idiotic..."

"We've got much better songs, out there, I mean look at the South Side, North Side song. That was great..."

"Why don't we go find a song like that and just submit that instead?"

"Why do we even join these rhings things, it's not like we ever do well."

"What?! Don't you remember "Just another stupid love song" we won it with that."

"Well do you remember the singing Granny debacle?"

"So, I thought it was fun... If anyone thought it was a serious song then they need a sense of humour implant stat."

"Alright..." See you then...

... A number of Weeks Later ...

Congratulations, On the Sorth Side by Annie Boddielz, you have been nominated to appear for Bazalonia in the 5th World Vision tournament.

The third edition of Scotchpine qualifications for the Worldvision contest was the most intense yet.

Thousand of acts started on the road to the final.

At least sixteen of them were hospitalized with anxiety attacks along the way.

But three have made it here - to the final showdown.

The three finalists:

Jack Deichmeister - This piano-playing soulster is only 22 years old, but is already being touted by the media as "Scotchpinestan's next great bedroom voice". He has made it here with his steamy hit "Time For Love".

Quench - This unique act is made up of ten artists, all of whom sing, beatbox, and play the kazoo. Their antics with the kazoos - of all shapes, sizes, and colors - have helped them stand out in this competition, but judges have openly wondered whether their song "Natural High" can compete lyrically at the international level.

Ugueth Samuelsson - This reggae artist has recorded independently for over 20 years, but he has never had much mainstream success until now. The song that broke him through is called "Funk Freak".

One more performance. One more round of viewer voting. And then there will be only one.

((Results soon))
Quinntan
09-03-2008, 14:53
Quinntan's WorldVision national finals had attracted a wide range of enteries, from rapping rabbis to twenty minute long guitar solos. And, for some odd reason, a military marching band. Now that all of the thirty-seven performances were finished, it was time for the judges to decide which group would make the trip to Khenas.

"You know, I really liked those rabbis, especially the way they used that pig."

"No Mary, that's already been done."

"By who?"

"The Simpsons. I preferred the military marching band, though the finale was a bit over the top."

"They called in an airstrike."

"Yeah, a bit over the top!"

"Oh, I dunno... What if we combine the two together?"

"I dunno and I don't really care, do whatever you want."

(OOC: Please keep in mind when reading, Yokarians are a bit xenophobic)

Menodux Arena
Tsireji, Yokaria

The arena was massive, and full of people, Maria had not expected the popularity of something like this. A Yokarian would go out into world among the Barbarians, a thought until very recently unhead of. She said her brother, sitting next to her:

"You know i've never been here before." still in awe of the sheer size of the place

"I only come when Beressa's in town, but it is a sight to see."

The final performances of the six contestants would performed live right before the announcement of who would represent the nation at the WorldVision Contest

Maria thought most of them were good, a couple were just abysmal

"I still can't believe they let a puppet be considered to do this." she said jokingly

"Honestly, if Beressa doesn't win I hope that Bungie does." replied her brother

The crowd was getting anxious and soon the lights dimmed down, the holovid behind the stage went to blank and a became a multicolored fountain of light. The cameras floated down towards the stage and centered on a figure now walking to center stage.

"Good evening, fans, ladies, and gentlemen. Now we've arrived at the moment you've all been waiting for."

The Contestants were nearby awaiting anxiously

The android looked around at crown and then began the list

In sixth place with a total of 12 million votes: The Unsung!

In fifth place with a total of 26 million votes: Guinea Fouls!

Coming in fourth with a total of 43 million votes: Revan Cache!

In third we have the King's Men with a total of 64 million votes

Maria could see from where se was sitting that Beressa was looking up at where she and her brother were sitting

In a close second...we have an unusual character...with a total of 101 million votes...Bungie the Budgerigar

The crowd went ecstatic

Confetti fell on top of Beressa multicolored laser lights were all over

The Winner, with a grand total of 104,234,625 votes: Beressa Narbonese Colcassia !

"The whole of Yokaria is now asking the same question, what song will you be singing?"

A smiling Beressa took the nanophone

LATE NIGHT WORLDVISION INFO SPOT

COUNTRY #21

Motley Assorted Kingdom of Sesquipedalianist

http://www.nationstates.net/images/flags/uploads/sesquipedalianist.jpg

Contestant:
Gut from Gidgegannup

Selection:
Only person to nominate.

Country Background
Sesquipedalianist is a relatively small nation and very new nation in terms of things as well. Not much is known in the outside world of this nation because of its remoteness and the indifference of its population. They do know that it is situated somewhere though that Somewhere has now been identified as Indifference. where on a map that is we don’t know and we can’t be bothered trying to find out. From the few experiences of meeting Sesquipedalianistians it is known that they are very fond of the drink so much so that they are nearly always (to proven if they are in fact drunk in their sleep) drunk. They have high liver immunity because of this and also the few crates of beer that have been exported from the country have been at a unparalled level. They are merry to all they see and happy to share a yarn though can be at time quite temperamental or moody.

Gut from Gidgegannup

From the few facts he’s been able to tell (which is a fair bit especially if you’re down in the bar and he happens to be on his 18th whisky) we’ve been able to piece together a bit of his history. Always a vocal one from early age he got his name for developing a larger beer belly than normal and at an earlier age than normal. He spent most of hist time in a pub and there he would stay from opening till close drinking away and also singing as loudly as he could. Eventually being unable to move well something had to be done. Eventually he was shunned from all the pubs and only one person stood by him, Liverless. Feeling despair he heard on the twine of the WorldVision contest and sought it out thinking of gaining himself popularity amongst the people of the Kingdom. He then rather stupidly (because he managed to grab a few bottles and was under the influence) decided to travel first class…postal. After he had been shunned by the pubs he had lost a lot of weight and was now able to fit inside one of the larger boxes. However, fate turned to worse because he had not accommodated for the dreadful postal system out of the country and he arrived at the host nation the day the competition closed rather than two weeks beforehand as planned.

The Contest

Arriving late he only managed registration because of a computer glitch and some higher power. However not complaining he is busy training - lubricating his throat (aka drinking). His overall chances in the competition is woeful to say the least because he has one of those voices that is flat, brazen and loud; quintessentially pub like. He is however bound to pick up a few points being a crowd favourite with his jolly persona and infamous drinking habits. He will be singing one of his own songs, I've Got 10,000 Pints in my Pajamas.

Overall Prediction: 12th

Great. It's that time of year again. We're going to have to pick an entry for WorldVision again.

Okay, yeah, shouldn't you be going through all the songs that were sent in.

Oh, nothing's been sent in this time. We don't want to send crap in again, we don't want to get such a low place again. We want to do well, maybe even win.

And how do you propose to that?

We write our own song this time. And get some-one to perform it.

Like who.

We don't know yet. It's not important yet. Hell, we won't even need to finish writing the song until we're up on stage in Khenas City in a few months.

Alright, then it's settled. This year's entry will be Wijaska Island Entry, by WTV Music. Now what exactly is this song going to be?

Oh here we go again. Two female-sung ballads, two near-misses. What's the response? A comedy rapper gets in.

A proper comedy rapper, with a song based on a mysteriously popular faux-chav RL pop poppet but with a heavy rock chorus thrown in. Oh, and it's a bash at the refereeing scandals in Kura-Pelland's top football league, the Corganen Championship.

"Ah but this pub karaoke is different. See here the rules state you have to write your own song."

"Oh well that's good I suppose."

"Yeah and the beer here is crap. This lot performing at the moment seem alright though. What do you say we sign this lot up and then go grab a drink somewhere better?"

"Gordon Breek, though? "Down in Smoke?""

"Totally! He's awesome?"

"The multiple choice answers correspond to notes on the scale."

"All four of them, yeah."

"Actually, only every other question is ABCD. The others are EFGH."

"In fifth place, "Freshie Part II", by Leetmotif."

"And their only album, yeah. And in first place, unsurprisingly, is Negative Zero. With one of their innumerable hit tunes, Scene of the Pain! We'll see you in Khenas City!"

"Are we going to Khenas City? Or are we just going to sit behind a desk and talk at people?"

"Shut up, you're ruining the moment."

The Scotchpine results were delayed, and the suspense ratcheted up, due to an improbable tie in the televoting. After a thorough consultation of the rulebooks, officials decided that the only fair thing to do would be to hold another televote between the top two vote-getters.

After the results from the second vote came in, Ugueth Samuelsson was declared the winner.

as the music fades out Joana Taylor the country's favorite singer steps up to the mic and starts to speak.

" thank you everyone for coming! before we pack up and leave i would like to say that i hope you will come and show your support at the WorldVision contest. BECAUSE WE ARE GOING TO KHENAS!"

after what felt 5 hours of listening to Joana's songs the WMD* found only one song that didn't have swearing in every other line: I Don't Know, so thats our song.

ic: "Augh!!!!! We forgot to enter!!!!"

"We've got time!!! About four minutes...we can fax it."

"Who do we enter then?"

"No time, shall we just put something in as a placeholder?"

"Well, we'll get the committee on it."

"That'll do!!!"

piosenkadlaSwilasji 5
So, yes welcome to another edition of Piosenka dla Swilasji, where you select the Swilatian song for WorldVision 5. So, a bit of new features here. this time the songs were sent in by an online form. We got over 500 entries sent in, but as in the last editions of this contest, there's only 15 songs in the actual contest. I really have no idea how they select those 15 songs every time, but closest I've come is that it is a process involving tea-leaf reading, an old scrabble board, and a dead cat named mittens. But anyway, here are this year's songs:

Entry number 1:
Unreality, by Syilaenias
So, we start of with a baisically run of the mill NF song. There's not really anything to say about it. Hell, i'm not even sure how you're supposed to say the band name.

Entry number 2:
Day After Day, by Vilvek
And another song from Vilvek. They always send good songs, yet they never make it to the contest. Maybe they should stop, they're prolly never going to get there, and besides, would a band like them would really want to be caught dead in something like WorldVision? They should just look at some other countries' entries. Or some NF songs.

Entry number 3:
Piosenka o..., by Marija Sasnaje
And now a song in Polish. We have less and less of these every year. Wait, no, last year we didn't have any, they were all in English.

Entry number 4:
1 Point, by Hamburger
Now we have a song about how terrible we used to do in the contest, always coming in the bottom half, however it's quite silly to see this right after we win the contest, first place, gold award, all that stuff. Maybe next year, if this year we go back to our terrible record.

Entry number 5:
Is the sky really blue?, by Sajasanta Niwalase
Another stupid love song with a weird, unrelated title. We get one of those every year. Next.

Entry number 6:
my_world_vision_entry.mp3, by undefined
What's this doing here? Oh, yeah, this is because of the whole internet submission form thing. Since the internet worked so well for the voting, it has to work for submissions, right? At least maybe bands like Niezykłe and Duel of the Fates won't be able to figure this out, thus keeping their nonsense out of our national final.

Oh, wait, this sounds suspiciously like a Niezwykłe song

Entry number 7:
JoaNa TaYLeR ViDeo!!1, by xxanna326xxyz
An if you needed another reason why internet submission forms are a bad idea, here it is. And how does one perform something like this

Entry number 8:
Anarchy for Sale, by Bandyty Swilajskie
And now, we have the same band that represented us in the first contest, it seems they were able to properly fill the application out. As for the song, it's certainly better then that "the world sucks" nonsense they sent to contest one, but the song still sucks.

Entry number 9:
WorldVision Zero, by Diamond Clubs
Ugh. This one is just terrible. It's like every bad thing about WorldVision songs, rolled into one 5 minutes of... pure... garbage. Wait, that's not good enough. I have seriously never seen such scum and villany outside of a warcrimes court. Unless this a parody of the contest, but even then, hearing this still makes my ears bleed.

Entry number 10:
Waiting 4 U remix, by +,real
Didn't we have this one in our National Finals before? WorldVision songs are supposed to be original. Besides, how are you supposed to make a remix of something that already sounds like a remix?

Entry number 11:
You are the music in me, by Niezwykłe
And now we have another Niezwykłe song, this time it's properly entered. With the song title and everything. Now I'm just confused.

Entry number 12:
Kill me, by Blankspace
I really have no idea what to say about this song. Sounds a lot like last year's entry from Popay though.

Entry number 13:
Once upon a time, by Sayala
And since we always have more than one stupid love song, here's the other one. At least we're near the end, so we might not have to see a third one.

Entry number 14:
Dlaczego Walcz?, by GetRichQuick
Okay, so we have another song in Polish, maybe next year there might be chance of sending one. But this song shouldn't go to the contest, it sounds too much like our first entry, or at least part of it. At least this does not claim there are going to be end of the world soon or something weird like that.

Entry number 15:
Revolutions, by Biało Niebieskie
And finally, here's the band that gave us that song with the imaginary lyrics, and this time, they give us a song with... no lyrics at all. I don't even think that's allowed in the contest. But whatever. At least this time that Khenian band isn't in our National Final. Maybe they are going to be an interval act or something like that.

3... 2... 1...
STOP VOTING!!!

Fourth Place: Waiting 4 U remix, by +,real
Third Place: Day After Day, by Vilvek
Second Place: Revolutions, by Biało Niebieskie
(dramatic pause)
And our represntative in WorldVision 5 will be: WorldVision Zero, by Diamond Clubs

Well, the thread has been running for long enough, we have 20 countries, the most we've ever had in the contest, and the 2 countries who have not yet chosen their songs have not been active for several days. So now, i've decided to stop the national finals here. The contest thread will be opened up shortly.
