The Confederacy of Anglo-Peruvian States: Open for Business

Anglo-Peruvian States

Greetings, nations of the world. I am writing as President and Ambassador of the newly formed Confederacy of Anglo-Peruvian States to announce our presence and to open up the doors of diplomacy and trade. Below is a copy of a post that tells a little more about us as well as what values we espouse as a people. (This can be found in the posting area for the West Pacific.)

"(T)he Confederacy of Anglo-Peruvian States (is) a league of sovereign South American states that formerly were located in the northern tier of the Republic of Peru.

These states, peopled predominately by a cross mixture of American Southerners and "Copperheads," Mestizos and Incas, declared their independence in 2008 and established the new capital in Trujillo. Since our founding, several interior southern Amazon states have petitioned to join our Confederacy.

Because of the large numbers of Anglos, English and Spanish are both widely spoken, although Spanish is the official language.

Our constitution is patterned after the Constitution of the Confederate States of America (minus the slavery of course, in fact, the VP is a black man as is the mayor of Trujillo). Although the official report says that our income tax is 21%, this is incorrect. We have no income tax! Our revenues are raised largely through consumption taxes and user fees, and each state, in keeping with the sovereign tradition of the former CSA, has primal jurisdiction over its respective territory. Our Confederate government consists of a Senate (2 from each state) and a Congress (proportionately represented). The President is elected for 6 years and is limited to two terms in office. The majority party is the Partido Conservador Confederado, a right-leaning libertarian party that is socially conservative, with the Left being represented by APRA-CAPS (Apristas Confederadas).

Although the majority of those in the CAPS are Roman Catholic, evangelical Protestants have a strong presence, with Baptists comprising the largest block (the President is a Baptist, and no, he's not Mike Huckabee). :-)

One more issue: our flag. The flag consists of a hybrid between the Third National Flag of the Confederate States of America (ca. 1865)and the Coat of Arms of Peru. The merger of these two emblems represent, not only our ideals of liberty, justice and states' rights, but also the marriage of our respective cultures and traditions into one."

There are a couple of more things that I would like to share with you regarding our nation. Although we value free trade, commerce and friendship with all nations, we do not seek to belong to any organization that would compromise our sovereignty and independence. This is why we have thus far not petitioned to join the UN (although we will happily interact with UN member nations). Also, while we seek to influence the world through the avenues of cultural exchange and commerce, our official approach to foreign policy is, for the most part, non-interventionist (if Ron Paul were a Confederate Peruvian, we would probably elect him President). :-)

We will be updating our profile periodically. In the mean time, please do remember that much of the criteria that the UN uses to category us is based on the assumption that big government is good and conservative libertarianism is bad, so please feel free to write us directly if you have any questions or concerns about some of our "official" UN-inspired statistics. Have a great day, God bless you, and God bless the Confederacy of Anglo-Peruvian States!
