What are some dating/courting customs, norms, traditions, etc. in your nation?


In Kurona Dating is usually free of parental rule. Anyone may date whether the parents like it or not (Though most observe ground rules based on religion, family rules etc) some may be arranged but this is a pretty rare occurrence along with arranged marriage. Usually on most dates, the girls and boys will dress up in their best, (even if it's not a formal date) Many girls will work to buy a new dress to impress the boy they like. Boys will either wear: A white shirt, slacks (w/or w/o Suspenders) or a suite. (a tux is usually on a very formal occasion) while girls will wear a long dress, but some wear the nicest Kimono they have. (some even go Victorian style). If it's raining, the boy is usually pressed to hold the umbrella for the lady, or give her a coat. (though many girls will assert themselves) if it's stormy they will likely stay in one or the other's home. A steady dating couple even best friends can sleep together and not have such a taboo put on it, unless it was a sexual act. It's custom for the boy to bring the girl some sort of gift (flowers, candy etc) though Going Dutch has become a recent trend.

Some common habits seen in the dating place have cropped up in recent years:

A boy may comfort a girl who is frightened (especially if it's stormy)
a dating couple may go out to sea together.
Star Gazing is a great activity.
4/10 High School couples neighbors etc. end up married
Taking your date to a church service regardless of denomination has also become something of a trend
Camping: this is particularly where the taboo free pre-marriage sleeping comes in.

Just a tidbit of Kurona's dating. These are more commonly found among teenagers and young adults more so than older adults. Older Adults are more likely to do a very simple and very casual date. Some times just "hanging out" is the simple form of dating.

The Protectorate of 0110110101110101100010 does not know the meeting of this "date". The closest thing to that is the Mate Lottery, where individuals are mated based on their genotype and whether their genotype is optional.

In traditional families, arranged marriages are still the main thing with the parents determining who their children will marry. Religiously orientated families force arranged marriages on their kids. Women and girls don't have much a say in these families. In morally conversative areas, parents always have the final say.

However, society is becoming more liberal with women breaking out of the mould and choosing their own partners. Dating is popular with the liberal crowd and these people tend to be far more sexually promicious. Protestant dating are meek affairs while Jewish dating is more like an interrogation. Catholics are worst behaved on dates where there's not much taboos.

Dating in Kahanistan can be fairly simple, or it can be the biggest nightmare of one's life, depending on whom one is dating.

Generally in the secular, urban areas, both sexes are fairly liberal about sexuality. It's often a matter of simply striking up a conversation, finding if the person is single, doesn't have any homophobic tendencies if that's your thing, and exchanging contact information.

In rural or inner-city religious areas, arranged marriages, while never common, still take place occasionally despite laws regulating them; for example, when one reaches the age of 17, the minimum age of marriage, one can bow out of a marriage contract arranged by their parents, and children cannot be forced into a marriage, though most people in arranged marriage accept their partners. Secular authorities take allegations of coercion very seriously, and parents face long prison terms for forcing children into marriages they don't want.

Dating and any love-based relationships are strictly banned in Imperium Scientium under the Logical Emotions Act.

In Darknovae most people are quite liberal about their sexuality, so it isn't hard for anyone to get a date, unless there are certain circumstances (such as, not being interested, or whatever). Females tend to be more open than males about asking for dates. Normally on dates both partners pay for food, entertainment, etc. There are really no "roles" for either gender. Dates tend to be fairly casual.

Popular places for dates are cafes, cinemas, school (for teenagers), clubs (for adults), sports matches.

In Darknovae the legal marriage age is 17, 16 with parental consent, though most marry between the ages of 18 and 24. Arranged marriages are banned in Darknovae except in the city of Indeusitie, which is entirely religious.

In Resijo dating is a simple and straight forward matter. You ask them out provided they are not a lower rank than you and if they agree you may then proceed to the field exercise of your choice. If they disagree you can request a appeal by trial of arms with the potential date having the choice of weapon and the option of a proxy. Parental consent has no place in dating since it is illegal to date until after your sixth month of basic training is completed and your commander does not deem your loss of service time critical. Co-Ed companies are encouraged and all service members made surgically sterile except in the breeding battalions. For every issue there is an answer, some answers just hurt a little more.

Dating in Callisdrun begins in earnest at about age 14. Note that in Callisdrun, accepting a date invitation by someone does not instantly make both the inviter and invited a couple, as this usually takes place only after a few dates. Either the female or the male (in heterosexual situations) can invite the other on a date, though traditionally it is the female who asks the male (Callisdrun's society was somewhat matriarchal for much of its history). The general rule is that whoever did the inviting is the one who pays for any expenses incurred in the date, such as dinner or tickets to an event.

Attire can be casual (T-shirt and jeans/other sort of non-dressy pants), for sports events, movies, lunch, etc., or formal (dress, how revealing depending on the season, for women, high quality pants, longsleeve shirt and hauberk for men), such as a symphony, opera, ball, etc.

Most Callisdrunian couples, even in their teens, are sexually active. Some Callisdrunians choose to engage in more casual sexual relationships than the long-term, committed type, but this generally is more common in people of university age and slightly older. It is rare to find a Callisdrunian older than 18 who has not had some sort of sexual relationship.

Marriage in some ways, works much like dating. Either the female or male can propose, though traditionally it is the female who has done so. Arranged marriages are almost unheard of. Though parents are often looked to for advice and for their blessing, parental consent is not necessary for marriage except in the case of minors, which is extremely rare, as most Callisdrunians don't get married until they are 24 or older.

The moroii are a somewhat special case in terms of dating and marriage. Anyone who chooses to engage in a sexual relationship with a vampire must also be their donor. Because the moroii are more traditional, with vampires it is always the female who asks the male on a date, whether both of those involved are moroii, or as is more often the case, not. Similarly, it is always the female who proposes marriage. In a moroii marriage, the male in the relationship goes to join the female's family. Female vampires generally move back into their clan's ancestral home (usually a castle housing many members of the clan) to have children.

Homosexual relationships and dating are much the same as heterosexual situations, except that since the participants are of the same sex, traditional roles of male and female don't really enter into it.

In Klausien, some women live in boxes with holes. They must put their primary sexual organ against that to get impregnated from paying men from all around the world(i, the state, of course am getting these payments). They get food for roughly 1 year and 1 month for every born baby.
