Kirav

Since I'm about to have territory in the Antarctic claims thread, which I intend to change titles numerous times, I've decided to put up a thread here with a short definition and description on each type of province/colony, to avoid confusion, and educate y'all a bit about my country.
Colonies- Kiravian colonies are "settler colonies" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Settler_colonialism), where a significatn portion of the population(most often the majority), is made up of Kiravian, Kirverdan, or other Imperial colonists. Colonial societies are usually based on that of Kirav. Colonies are, socio-economically and geographically speaking, their own countries, but retain a political and social link to Kirav.
Colonies may be governed in a variety of ways. Self-Governing colonies form their own government, but must report to the Imperial Senate. Departmental Colonies are governed as a branch of the Imperial Government. National Colonies have a hybrid system between the two. Various other forms of government exist as well.
--More to come on Colonies--
Colonies are the most common type of province in the Empire, and some have distinctive aspects that deviate them from other colonia.
Soveriegn Colonies are, in effect, independent countries formed by Kiravian colonization that have semi-autonomy in foriegn affairs, and complete autonomy in domestic affairs. They are subject to Imperial rulings, but are exempt from many Acts of the Senate.
Trade Colonies(also called Trade Territories) are colonies formed for the purpose of trade within them. Companies have a high degree of influence in Trade Colonies
Self-Governing Colonies Have a great deal of domestic autonomy, and can form their own governments. However, Imperial control is maintained in the form of a locally elected Governor selected from a group of candidates by the Emperor. Or, in some cases, an Imperial presence in the legislature instead.
Autonomous Colonies are domestically independent, but have the Empire manage their foriegn affairs, and are directly subject to Imperial rulings. As a rule, they are not permitted to maintain a Colonial Military, other than a Coast Guard.
Governates- Governates are Imperial provinces that are governed on a lower levell than Colonies. Kiravian setlers are typically present, but may or may not make up a plurality of the population.
Administrates- Administrates are Imperial provinces that are governed on a lower levell than a Governate. Kiravian settlers are almost always present, but the generally low population of Administrates (100,000- 900,000) does not merit the privileges of a higher form of government. [Note: Some colonies have smaller populations than Administrates]
Territories- Territories are a very low form of provincial government. They are small, sparsely populated, and typically insular countries. They are governed by a local department of the Kiravian Empire. Citizens of the Territories have a very minimal political role.
Dependancies- Dependencies are very small colonies, often only a small economic outpost or airstrip, or, at largest, a collection of towns that is too small to have much self-government. Small, local affairs are handled by a Governor in the province. Foriegn, Intra-Imperial, and other affairs are handled by the Dependencies Office. They are allowed a Provincial Military of 1/12th the total population.
Trust Territories- Trust Territories are areas under Imperial control, but by treaty, are to be returned to sovereignty at a certain point. In some cases, the Empire has chosen to disregard this and keep the country anyway. Few Kiravian settlers are present, and the province is governed differently, depending on the treaty. Trust Territories do not have a seat in the Imperial Senate.
Protectorates- Protectorates are small or minor polities that the Empire finds honourable and are in need of defence. The Empire is responsible for defence and foriegn representation, and takes a superior role in government, although, for the most part, the Protectorate handles most of its own internal affairs. Note that Protectoares are not sovereign states.
Mandates- Mandates are states annexed by the Empire for the purpose of stabilizing a region. The government consists of a Mandatory Administrator, who oversees military units in the province, and a Prime Minister, who handles interior concerns. The citizens have no official political power, and the government is mostly concerned with keeping the province under control.
Homelands- Homelands are the two founding states of the Empire (Kirav and Kirverda). They are granted a wide range of freedoms in their political system, and their inhabitants are all 1st-level Imperial citizens. Currently, only the United Kingdoms of Kirav and the Union of Kirverda bear the title of Homeland, but induction of a large, major, and socially seperate nation may be cause for this to change. Homelands are permitted to have dependant prvoinces under their direct administration.
Military Territories/Colonies- Military Territories and Military Colonies are areas of territory that are maintained purely for military use. They do not include bases that are part of another province or missile test areas.
Military colonies are usually a base or group of bases, and are administered by the military's Territorial & Base Affairs Office. A particular base is chosen as the capital.
Insular Areas- Insular Areas are island areas without a permanent population, managed by the Insular Areas Office of the Interior Secriat. This excludes nature reserve areas and militarily-adminstered missile test sites. Note that not all uninhabited islands be;png to this province type.
Subordinataria- Subordinataria are small states, usually minor nations or pre-national polities, that are under Imperial control, and are granted services and protection by the Empire. They retain their own system of government, but must take orders from Kartika officials. Like a Chinese tributary state, subordinataria represent the Empire's foriegn affairs in their local area.
