Mystic Origins (Organizational, OOC)

Snefaldia

I'm looking to set up a historical RP to help flesh out some of my nation's history. Snefaldia has a very diverse and multifaceted history, with many of the regions progressing for hundreds, if not thousands, of years before coming into contact with other peoples.

The focus for me right now is the region of Neer Dal. I started writing up a detailed history on NSwiki, adjusting my original idea for the region from a qusi-Hindi people to something closer resembling an Elven society. They use an adapted elven script (Sarati, for those familiar), and their language bears superficial similarities to Elven. They're human, though, but I left it intentionally fuzzy to allow for the possibility of mythic influence.

For a history of Neer Dal, look at my NSwiki page here (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Neer_Dal). It's a work in progress, so please ignore any inconsistencies or mispellings. Also keep in mind that it might be edited heavily; that's just there for background.

Summarized timeline:

*Early History
*Minayá Period (5-135)
*Princely States (Nērilisán 123-742 and Dàl Ceítín 153-742)
*Nēr Dàl Period (742-1078)
*Têisnáya (1078-1398)
*Àtaléin (~1398-1530)
*Túr èn Él (1530-1700)
*Segován (1700-1835)
*Republic (1895-1964)
*Modern (1964-present)

I'd like to see something set in the Early History period, but if anyone reads through the history I have now and sees something that gets their fancy, like the conflict between Cüdrohásái and Nál Dá Têisnáyán, then I might be open to doing something in that time period.

My main reason for wanting something in the ancient times is the ease with which we'll be able to develop characters. I'm wary of RPing my history with foreign characters, there are only a few cases in which it would work. My vision is something like a band of foreign peoples traversing the mountains and coming down into the lush jungles of Neer Dal. Sort of like the Elves giving civilization to men, but that doesn't have to be the case.

So, I'll open this organizational thread to anyone who's interested. I retain the right to ask you to take part or not, so keep that in mind, but I'm definitely open to most anything.

Is there anything other than stone age or prehistoric you can do in this time period? Were you thinking of a Babylonian level society perhaps?

Well, the concept I had in my mind was one of an undeveloped society, one with defined tribal patterns and a symbiotic relationship with the environment- "Stone Age" or "Prehistoric" is terribly cliche, and since the Taaru culture in Allasha flourished from 3000bce to 500bce (505 years before the establishment of Minayá) we aren't talking proto-hominids here. More like traditional kinship-based peoples that were foragers or horticulturalists.

But what I saw happening was the arrival of an alien group that brought new culture and genetic stock, which spurred development. There's a point in Aerionian Prince Wasterin's visit to Snefaldia where he mentions Elves in Aerion; the possibility of Elves in Snefaldia appealled to me very much, and I mulled over the idea of having an ancient Elven state that collapsed for some reason, leaving behind only traces of their languages and genetic stock.

I alluded on a wiki page that there is a theory of a proto-Snefaldian race that controlled the entire land. There haven't been any archaeological finds to confirm this, but in my choosing of alphabets and nomenclature I tried to leave the possibility wide open. The problem is that I've dated the Taaru Culture to roughly 3000bce, meaning any pan-Snefaldian state would have to be that far back in history. I'm much happier restricting the initial parameters to Neer Dal and about 3000kya, anything after that can come in RP.

Well, Holy Faith Killester has been aroud for thousands of years but it is only in the last 50 years that it has become more of an international socialising Nation. It has always been a very private Nation with little interference from other Nations and has deep pride in its traditions hence we still have clothing laws stating that traditional clothing is to be worn at all times.

I would be very interested in sharing historical information with fellow Nations.

Are there any nations which are largely composed of mythical races, like elves and such? I'm really modelling Neer Dal on a sort of Tolkienesque group of people with naming conventions and cultural trappings, but I would definitely like to tie it into a larger NS group of elves or some such thing. Any thoughts?

Are you kidding? These forums are so full of elves even Taraskovya has 'em -.- Not to mention that the Tarathians (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Taraskath) who aren't without an "elvish-drowesque" touch.

The most "Tolkienist" elvish nation around is Menelmacar, with its Noldor.
Aelosia, with its Sindar, follows suit, albeit from what I could gather it also had some warhammer influences.
Just two examples. *shrugs*

:P I never spent much time in NS or II before I started Snefaldia, but I can say that there weren't many elf-based nations frequenting the UN forums when I was using Allech-Atreus. My ignorance is being washed away, it seems.
