Questions concerning earths and beyond

Good morning everybody,

First of all, I hope that this is the right forum for these questions. Though I've been playing NS for about 9 months now, I haven't really come aroung to RPing yet, though I really want to.
But before starting, I would like to know some basic things (before you tell me: I have red most of the newbie-threads, but still...):

1. Concerning the various earths:
Am I bound to the existing earths, or can I create my own world if I find a couple of people to play with? Since I have already created my nation, i.e. territory, army, and so on, I would like not to have to go too far away from what I've created (my nation consists of France, the BeNeLux-countries and Sardinia, areas which are very popular and already covered on the existing earths).

2. Concerning RPing in general:
As far as I know, I don't have to stick to my NS-stats at all, do I? Since 1,8 billion people on this little soil would be... Right?

3. Not a real question:
I am interested in war-RPs which appreciate a little weapon-nerding ;), i.e. more or less correct contemporary technology. It would be great if there was some technical accuracy as well (but more like Tom Clancy than like field manuals if you get my meaning ;) ).
So if there are RPsout there which would welcome a new player, OR nations which would like to start such an RP, tell me :).

Thanks in advance and

Regards,

Cassanos

All you need to do is introduce yourself on any RP thread that says [Open] or something like that on it. Then, say something like,

Foreign Minister Bob

Blah blah blah blah

Regards,
Whoever

Then, others will most definitely notice you and start rping with you. Concerning Earth forums, you are not bound to any of them unless you wish to join it. Technically, you are bound to your region map. (Unless your region has no map, like mine.) Creating a factbook for your information, like I did, is usually a good place to store RP info. Usually, players tend to stick to their actual statistics and GDP and whatever, but you can diverge however much you want. That's the glory of RP. Happy rping.

The whole "Earths" thing is largely an II convention; it originally arose because Tom, Dick, and Harry all claimed land on "Earth". Tom and Dick got into an argument over whose Evil Sith Fascist Empire ruled North America, and then Harry had the bright idea of making a thread for people to claim land on Earth, so that in the future people wouldn't claim North America when someone already had it. So Tom got his hands on North America ... and Dick was having none of it. Fine! he said. If you're going to be like that, I'll make my own Earth! Earth ... um ... B! And he did. And this went on from Aaron to Zacharias until there were umpteen billion Earths. And most of them died off, because this sort of clique-ism reduces roleplay possibilities.

So you don't have to exist on an Earth (although some people won't recognise you if you're not on the same Earth as them), and for that matter you don't have to use Earthly geography. But you can if you want to.

Likewise you don't have to stick to your NS stats (although some roleplaying cliques enforce it). Some people use calculators to work out their economy and military and such, and others throw everything to the winds. Regarding population specifically, capping your population at a more reasonable level is mostly viewed as acceptable; inflating your population (particularly to say "I have three trillion people in this galaxy") is mostly viewed as unacceptable.

As for wars, you could have a look at AMW - they sound something like what you're interested in. Otherwise, most war RPs are in the II forum, and happen frequently enough that I'm sure you'll find something of interest there.

Thank you for your answers, I think I understand some things better by now. But - where can I find maps of the different earths, and where do I make my claim?

Oh, and another thing: What does AMW stand for? The term is too short for searching in the forum.

A Modern World (http://www.nationstates.net/-1/page=display_region/region=a_modern_world); they sounded vaguely like what you were looking for. Go forth, and judge for yourself with this handy link!

If you're someone who would like to roleplay on an Earth that is as close to RL but royally different from what is really going on IRL, then you can roleplay with me and the few who roleplay with nations that are made up of former RL nations, and the like.

Like Tsaraine said, most people created umpteen billion Earth's and somewhere along the line in some cases some overlapped and eventually merged into one, or simply faded into ignorance. That said, I have been trying to get a group of like-minded people together who do use RL-World Maps, and 'former' nations, etc... to put together a unique roleplay. Since I have no idea what Earth California started in, I named the one for this particular continuity 'Earth Prime'.
