I've had this idea for a while, but have no real idea on how to do it, so i'm opening the floor (so to speak) for ideas on how to do this.

Basically, i'd like to open a NS Stock Exchange and have countries put up one or two companies for stock.

The idea is that you can RP your company/ies and that will based on random #'s either increase or decrease the value of the stock.

My main problems are:

1- How many companies would I need at mininum to get it going?

2- What price the stock's intial value should be?

3- If there is enough interest to even bother doing it?

4- I know NOTHING about how to create a WebSite that would be used for the daily updates.

and 5- How the heck do they(real stock exchanges) determine how a stock did (ie: why it when down or up in price)?

So if any persons can help anwser these problems, THANKS!

1- More is better, to be sure.

2- The stock's initial price is set by the company which is offering the stock for sale, usually with the assistance of some kind of underwriting firm, and can be sold in a variety of ways. Then if people buy up the shares that were issued, the price goes up with demand. If not, the price goes down.

3/4- Aye, that's the hard part, as a surprising amount of stuff goes into how stock markets worse. That and I'm not sure how you'd RP it.

5- People who want the stock give a price they're willing to pay for it. People who have the stock give a price they're willing to sell at. And the price which the deals get done at is the price of the stock, which goes up or down over time.

I always found the commodity markets more interesting myself, though. :p

There are several ways to accomplish this, the question being who would develop and maintain it? I've tackled similarly sized projects before with mild successes, but maintenance was always an issue. Then there's the problem of finding someone willing to do it for free...

While I don't know about 1. , 2. & 5 for 3. you could do a poll to see if other nations are interested i.e would you be interested in a international stock market?

Generalites have been having fun at stocks here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=541056). Perhaps asking Fris could help. We can actually use this site for RPing stocks, but then, it's not exclusive at all to NSers.

The non-exclusivity thing might be an issue with that, but that might just be me and being overwhelmingly anal about the realism of such things.

Plus, there's all sorts of things like earnings statements and stuff like that. It'd be hard to have stock-market-in-a-vacuum.
