World Ultimate Championship
This is for Ultimate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_%28sport%29) (Frisbee), a sport utilizing a frisbee and based on American football and rugby, but greatly simplified.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/22/UltiClubNationals05Layout.jpg/300px-UltiClubNationals05Layout.jpg
You have a field 65m by 40m, with endzones 20m deep. The rules are quite simple: a team of seven players tries to score points by passing to a teammate in the endzone. There are two 20-minute halves, with a 10-minute break in between. One team starts with the frisbee and throws it as far downfield as possible. The opposing team may either catch the frisbee or let it fall. They then begin passing the frisbee to each other down the field, trying to score a point. When a point is scored, the scoring team starts with the frisbee on that side. The frisbee may be intercepted or blocked (causing it to fall), both of which result in the passing team to lose possession. If the frisbee goes out of bounds, the other team gains possession and must throw it in from the boundary line.
There is a referee to keep order and fair play. He is authorized to eject players from the game or give them penalty timeouts of 1-5 minutes. Total penalty time of more than 10 minutes will result in automatic ejection. He may stop and resume play when necessary (fouls, injuries, out-of-bounds, scores, etc.). Teams may be mixed gender. In the case of a draw, 5 minute overtimes are added until the draw is broken.
I will be scorinating (simulating scores) by using a spreadsheet that takes a random number from 0 to 1 and multiplies it by 10. This gives a range of scores from 0 to 10. You then RP based on the scores. Any interest? Please sign up here and once we get a good number of nations, I'll start it. The tournament will be randomly drawn teams playing in a knockout tournament in a sort of Swiss-style to ensure a full set of rankings. Sel Appa will be hosting it.

You're using a referee? For Ultimate? Sacrilege! That just proves how fraught NS is ;)
Kura-Pelland sign up. Incidentally 'regular' Ultimate uses a first-to-17-or-100-minutes system that's mildly confusing, I may try and create a scorinator to fit it for WUC2...

I know it's usually self-regulated, but it's easier to have a referee who can make decisions. If you can figure out a way once we actually have rankings=good. This is based more on how we play in gym, which is unregulated... My team lost once 6-4, even though 4 of those 6 were illegal.
With Kura-Pelland, we reach our first cutoff. The next team signups are waitlisted until we reach the next acceptable number: 16.
The Ariddian Isles have no professional players, but will send a joint team of amateurs from the F.A.I. (Federation of the Ariddia Isles) and sovereign West Ariddia.

Yafor 2, read the signature.
OOC: BUMP. And with signups due to close very soon...
IC:
The Ariddian Amateurs' Ultimate Association (AAUA, known to fans as "Aa-aah-oooooo-ah!"), in view of the potential lack of signups to bring the number of participants to the requisite sixteen, wishes to announce the following:
Should Lovisa, Ariddia, Yafor 2 and St Samuel be prevented from participating -for entirely understandable reasons, which we do not blame Sel Appa for in the slightest- Ariddia will invite teams from Lovisa, Yafor 2 and St Samuel to participate in a "parallel" championship hosted in Ariddia.
This is not to demean or question the legitimacy of the Sel Appan event in any way, but on the contrary to ensure that al nations wishing to participate in an Ultimate championship have the opportunity to do so.
OOC: If scorination is as simple as you say, I should be able to handle it. ;) Of course, this BUMP is primarily to try and make sure we do reach 16 signups here. If you fall one short, I'll supply a puppet.

Well if you can figure out a way to get 12 in a swiss-style, just tell me what to do. I already have the scorinator, but I may defer Sel Appa's matches to you (since you offered).
OOC: My suggestion was to split it if it can't be done. If you only want to take eight, I'll host the remaining four (myself included). Two seperate championships (awkward as that may be).
On the other hand, if you could post exactly what your system is, maybe we could brainstorm a solution to fit in 12.

I'm planning on doing a sort of swiss-style so everyone is ranked. Next cup, we'll probably have groups. Although if we end up stuck with 12, I may do groups.
OOC: Well, let me know what you decide to do in the end. ;)

It's possible to run an "imperfect" Swiss tournament with any number of competitors. If that's not a power of two, however, some teams will have to play teams with a slightly different record. For example, say the letter earlier in the alphabet wins each matchup:
Round 1:
AvB
CvD
EvF
GvH
IvJ
KvL
(A, C, E, G, I, K are 1-0. B, D, F, H, J, L are 0-1.)
Round 2:
AvC
EvG
IvK
BvD
FvH
JvL
(A, E, I are 2-0. B, C, F, G, J, K are 1-1. D, H, L are 0-2.)
Round 3:
AvE
IvC
BvF
GvJ
DvK
HvL
(A, I are 3-0. B, E, G are 2-1. C, D, F, H, J, K are 1-2. L is 0-3.)
Round 4:
AvI
BvE
CvG
DvJ
FvL
HvK
(A is 4-0. B, I are 3-1. C, D, E, F, G, H are 2-2. J, K are 1-3. L is 0-4.)
In this case, some teams had to play teams with one more or fewer win, but it wasn't necessary. Another wrinkle is the possibility of ties: I don't know enough about Ultimate to tell you how to incorporate this into the system. A familiar system for me is treating each win as the accumulation of one point for a team, and a draw as a half point (losses being zero). So a team that won one game, lost two, and drew one would have 1.5 points. Generally, when determining schedule for Swiss tournaments it's a good idea to rank the teams in order of points and match up opponents with as similar totals as possible. There are extra caveats, if for example you don't want teams to play each other twice, but you can sort that out yourself. ;)
I realize that's probably horribly confusing; let me know if I can help any more.

I'm having overtimes which will just use a modification on the formula. That idea looks like it might work. Or I may end up using points. Still have time to decide. :)
This looks interesting and I'd sign up, as roster creation is a cinch for me; except it looks like I'd be an odd 13th team out. So I'll call this a pending request to sign up.
(hmm... maybe I'll post, and 3 others will come out of the woodwork - and boom! 16 teams!)
If no-one else shows up, and you need an even 14, I'll send a puppet. Maybe ESAT (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/ESAT). I'm sure even they can come up with a frisbee team...

I think we might have to allow a dummy nation in that isn't RPed.
What happens when the dummy nation starts winning matches? ;)
Besides, it's more fun to have an RPing opponent with a roster and information about the nation.
It's annoying to have reached 15 and be one short, though. :p
