Come to the Associated Cantons! (Please bring babies.)

Associated Cantons

The following are excerpts from a series of pamphlets distributed, dear reader, potentially in YOUR nation. The population of the Associated Cantons was "greying." There were more elderly than young people, which presents a variety of problems. The government was fighting a demographic crash tooth and nail.

"The Associated Cantons has a... certain reputation with it's immediate neighbours.

Sexual liberation took root durably here in the sixties. The Gallic culture, a relaxed clergy, and (some say) these damn mountain winters had left fertile ground.

The result: violent crime tends to be low, and spirits tend to be high. Lifestyle choices of all kinds are respected by society at large.

The average Cantonais has a little spring in his step, the average Cantonaise heads to her job most mornings with a smile on her face. And it's not just because of the lovely scenery and enjoyable winter sports, dear reader..."

The trouble was that most of the folks enjoying the aforesaid lovin' were educated, intelligent, and career-focused. Birth control was easily available with few of the hangups found in more conservative countries. So virtually none of the populations endless trysts had resulted in children.

"The Associated Cantons are an excellent place to raise a family. Our education system is reliably rated as one of the best in the world! Our publicly-funded schools pay a premium to recruit the best teachers from across the globe.

University tuitions are kept low by our government, and scholarships exist for first-generation immigrants! See the back pages for more information on several of our top schools..."

The usual hyperbole of advertising was based more or less on fact, in this case. Education was for the most part excellent, and reasonably enough priced.

Other ads extolled the virtues of low housing prices (caused by a shrinking population) and the high wages being paid by increasingly desperate employers. The common message: Come to the Associated Cantons! And, if you have any, please bring babies.
