The Commonwealth of Newmarduk is attempting to revitalize it's national economy. First of all, both it's government and it's private Woodchips Exports company to attempting to locate foreign markets for wooden products (toys and furniture, mainly) made from the native mahogany andquengo trees native to Newmarduk. The Newmarduk government is also in negotiations with the United States of America-based McDonalds and Coca Cola corporations to provide foreign investments within Newmarduk borders; namely fast-food restaurants, soda machines, distribution of soft drinks, and maybe even soda-bottling plants and manufacturing plants for french fries and hamburgers.
Meanwhile, Newmarduk's ruling National Social Democratic Patriotic and Labor Party Alliance (NSDPLPA) is facing a strong challenge by a coalition of opposition parties grouped under the banner of the United Citizens Front of Newmarduk (UCFN). The election is for the nation's Assembly of Electors, which in turn selects the country's ruling Executive and Legislative Councils and it's Supreme Court. The ordinary voters of Newmarduk (who are required to vote) do not directly vote for the Executive and Legislative Councils or the Supreme Court, but rather popularly elect the electors who elect the main bodies of government. Public opinion polls show that the long-ruling NSDPLPA is trailing 10 to 20 percentage points behind the five-party coalition of the UCFN, with the UCFN-affiliated political parties predicted to win 230 to 265 out of 400 seats in the Assembly of Electors. The NSDPLPA is predicted to win 90 to 120 Assembly seats, with the remainder going to minor parties and independents.
