World Cup 38 Introduction:

For more information on the World Cup, its History, how it works, who runs it, and the competitions related to it, check out the World Cup Wiki Site (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/World_Cup).

The NSWC is a tournament for any NS nation who signs up. This World Cup is about to start its 38th competition, and your nation can take part! Every team is given a rank based on their performances in previous Cups, and the starting rank is roughly 200 (the Current 'best team in the world' is Ariddia, with a rank of 1) See: KPB Rankings (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/KPB_ranking_system)

Scores are generated using either a Java program or through various or MS Excel sheet 'scorinators' which use random numbers, weighted by ranking and RP bonus to produce the scores.

It is encouraged for Nations to RP - roleplay - their matches, team rosters, players and such. Good RPs will help raise your chance of winning (especially in the Baptism of Fire). Please note: A lot of RPs does not guarantee goals or wins, but your chances are improved of this happening. i.e. Two debutant, non-ranked, nations play each other. One has RP'd a few times, the other has not. The nation who has participated should have the better probability of victory, but still has a chance of a Win, Loss or Draw.

RPs can be Team Roster announcements, fan comments, press conferences, media stories, anything about the game, as long as you've kept to the score as posted or TGd to you by the host/scorer.

For any other questions you may have, please see the World Cup FAQs article on NSwiki. (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/World_Cup_FAQs) - Courtesy of Starblaydia

The longest-running sports-competition in NationStates reaches it's Thirty-eighth tournament: the Football (Soccer) World Cup. Please do specify if you have not participated before.

If your nation is new to the World Cup, or if you have no KPB points, you may be able to take part in the preliminary Baptism of Fire Cup (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Baptism_of_Fire) competition.
If this is your first Cup or if you have no KPB points, please indicate whether you wish to be registered for the Baptism of Fire or not.

Puppets have to post with their nation and identify their master. One Puppet per Master nation, and you may only enter a puppet once you have already competed in a World Cup'

The Sovereign Village of San Adriano announces its intention of participating in the football World Cup.

Although the village currently has no national team, we believe we can put one together in time for the competition.

However, due to the minuscule size of our country, we are uncertain as yet whether we will be able to meet the costs of sending our team abroad for the numerous away matches that await us during the qualifying stages. We would be grateful if an arrangement could be made possible enabling San Adriano to play all its matches in the the Sanadrianese National Stadium, which is located outside San Adriano in Nieuw Duijnen, Uhuh-Topia.

Should this not be possible, we would be highly grateful for any financial assistance enabling our team to travel abroad.

Another possibility put forward by our government and the Sanadrianese Olympic Committee would be the creation of a multi-national team which would include players from several microstates and/or countries too poor to be able to meet the financial requirements of World Cup participation on their own.

Re: Sanadrianese Arrangements

To mark Starblaydia's return to international football, ediraf has relaunched its leading sportswear range for the thirty-eighth World Cup. In keeping with its founding principle of bring sport to all, ediraf would like to make its facilities available for the fledgling Sanadrianese football team, providing transport for up to all four-hundred and thirty-nine residents of San Adriano, including their national team, to each and every match they play in their World Cup 38 campaign. Futhermore, ediraf offer their kit services to the Sanadrianese football team, as even the smallest of nations should have the opportunity of wearing world-class sportswear.

Out of interest, why is every World Cup described as a "milestone" in the intro thingy...?

Because when I first wrote that, there was actually a milestone, as it was the 25th or 30th (can't remember now though), now all that gets updated is the number.

As a minor point, surely on this it should be 'thirty-eighth', rather than 'thirty-eight'

In the name of all Sanadrianese, I would like to express our heart-felt gratitude for this extremely generous offer, which of course we are happy to accept.

Should ediraf wish to produce our kits, may we request the following colours?

home: top: right half red, left half green; sleeves, socks and shoes dark brown. shorts: right half green, left half red.

away: top: pale yellow, shorts: red, sleeves, socks and shoes: green

goalkeeper: completely in white

As a small token of gratitude, we offer to host a friendly between our two countries, at the Sanadrianese National Stadium. Her Royal Highness Princess Serena will be in attendance, and would look forward to inviting the entire Starblaydian team and staff for dinner at the Royal Palace in San Adriano. Naturally, this offer is also extended to as many representatives of ediraf as ediraf wishes to send.

The Empire of Onimar for the first time in its history signs up for the 38 world cup and the Baptism of Fire.

The Minister of Sports Hakan Uranji commented officially confirmed the sign up on National Television a few days ago.
“People of our Beloved Empire, I am here to confirm the rumors that our national team will be taking part in the World Cup this year. It was a long road and our players have worked hard, I wish them all luck and may the Emperors blessings be upon them during this great soccer session.”

The Emperor was asked to comment a few hours later and only had this to say.
“I’ve watched Soccer and the World Cup for as long as I can remember. So I wish our team the greatest luck and even if we don’t win, I know we will give the other nations a match to talk about.”

The Empire has been celebrating for weeks since these announcements and have been preparing for a great year.

25-09-2007, 14:22
Depends on the nation that your playing in whether your allowed to bring in weapons or what happens to them. Th

In the group stage you either be playing in your or your opponents facilities, ad in the finals if you get there will be at one of the hosts. Generally the host of the match has the final say on things like that.

I'd have to say due to current precident that you can but always expect some sort of reaction, could be a good RP oppurtunity but I'd say be careful cause you'll never know what might happen.

So can I sign you up, and are you interested in the Baptism of Fire?

Vice President William White ran into his bosses office. “Mr. President! Did you see this announcement that landed on my desk?”

President Anthony Johnson sighed. “Bill, how many times do I have to tell you that you can call me Tony in private? Now what announcement has your blood pressure through the roof.?”

“Sorry Tony. Just getting used to having to call you by your formal name for when we’re in public. This one about the 38th edition of the World Cup!”

“Despite the fact that we’ve just formed, you’re suggesting we put together a group of our young men and enter a team?”

“Of course! After all, we are a nation of soccer crazed people.”

President Johnson stroked his chin. “You have a point there, Bill. Very well.” He looked around, then called out, “Julia! Come here please!”

A well-figured woman entered the office. Julia Stevens was the President’s personal secretary. “You called, Mr. President?”

“Yes, Julia. I want you to write down my first official decree now that we’ve finished organizing the nation.”

Julia pulled out a notepad and pen. “Go ahead, sir.”

President Johnson smiled at Vice President White. “As my first official act as the President of the Community of Hopeless Soccer Club, I announce the formation of a national soccer academy to train the best of our young men to participate on the national soccer team.”

“You know, Tony,” Vice President White interrupted. “There’s also a thing called the Baptism of Fire tournament for teams that are new to the World Cup like ours that we can play in before the World Cup starts to give us some experience against other nations before we get slaughtered by the best teams in the world.”

President Johnson half-glared at Vice President White. “Bill, Julia being in the room for the time being puts us in a formal setting.”

Vice President White smiled apologetically before President Johnson continued the decree. “Furthermore, those players selected for the national team will participate in a Baptism of Fire tournament for new nations to the World Cup, like our own, before the next edition of the World Cup commences.”

Julia finished writing down the decree. “That all, Mr. President?”

President Johnson smiled at her. “Yes, Julia. Just make sure you show it to me before you release it to the media so there’s no confusion.”

“Very well,” she said before walking out of the office.

Both men were entranced by the sway of Julia’s hips as she left. Then, President Johnson turned to his right-hand man. “So Bill, who are we going to get to run the soccer academy?”

After thinking for a minute, Vice President White responded, “well Tony, talk to your friends and find out who’d be best qualified to run it.”

“Good idea,” President Johnson said before digging out his address book and starting to flip through it.

Well, I'm going to skip all that, and get down to it... 95X announces our intent to participate in NationStates World Cup 38! This is obviously our first NSWC, so yes, we'd like to sign up for the Baptism of Fire as well.

Dear Sir/Madam,

As the minister for society I feel that our nation could do well to enter a major sporting event so our players and sportmen can partake in activities on the world stage. Could you tell me how this can be done and how to apply plus any relevant contacts I would neeed to make. What exactly is the organisation called and who manages it.

Yours Faithfully,

That makes it, by my count, 86 signups.

Host auto-qualification makes that 84 for the qualifying rounds. That divides very neatly into 12 groups of 7; this is not an official signup closure, but marks an unofficial notification point. Teams signing up now are not guaranteed to be involved, although we still have to check for ceased nations.

In protest of the disregard of Baptism of Fire rules through the admission of Starblaydia into the tournament, the Allied Empire of Jey has withdrawn from World Cup 38. We sincerely hope we are considered for entrance into Baptism of Fire 26, during which we expect that no rules are bent to allow previous World Cup champions to enter into a beginner's tournament.

Respectfully,

The rules allow for Starblaydia to enter and with what Jey proposes, they would also be violating the rules that Jey claims Starblaydia is violating.

I could not agree more. Look, unless I'm mistaken, the point of the Baptism of Fire is not to have a gated environment for less experienced nations to close themselves off from the better teams, but to build up this KpB ranking before qualifiers for the World Cup. And frankly, Jey, if I lose the BoF final, you're going to have a higher KpB than either me or Starblaydia, so I don't know what you're complaining about. I really hope you don't stand behind your decision to drop out.

But anyway, sorry, this isn't a discussion thread, we should probs move it to the discussion one, eh?

OOC: The idea behind the IC dropout is that Starblaydia hopped around the usual rules through technicalities and minor legalities--that there's no real point for such an experienced team to sweep through the BoF. In the IC TSS Team, this won't be tolerated, and justice should be served for the rule violation. The entire team is about to be expelled (yes, I know that Universitus is pretty crazy, but what ya gonna do?) so I'm not sure who would play in the real WC in their place.

The rules allow for Starblaydia to enter and with what Jey proposes, they would also be violating the rules that Jey claims Starblaydia is violating.

Also OOC: Well that's sorta the point--if Starblaydia is allowed preferential treatment, everyone should get a chance to slip by the rules.

Returning to the point of this thread....

OOC: I'm not sure if you know where the World Cup Discussion Thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=536285) is, so I'll just place this here (and cross-post it in the DT, if you wish to reply)

Anyways,

Allow me to enlighten you on the rules regarding who is eligible for the Baptism of Fire: officially, the host of the competition (Miceland in this case, who happens to be a puppet of WCC President Bazalonia) has discretion, though with the understanding that only teams with a KPB of 0 (meaning that they have not competed in a World Cup-related competition in the last three cup cycles), as well as having never previously competed in a BoF, can enter.

Under these rules, Starblaydia, who has been absent from the NS footballing community for multiple cycles (and never took part in the BoF back when they first entered the World Cup ), was perfectly acceptable as a competitor in the BoF (as was, I must add, Spaam, under the same rules). No technicalities, no mumbo jumbo, and, I must add, little to no objections when both initially inquired as to their eligibility before the tournament. They have just as much of a right to play in the BoF as you did.

Furthermore, to see you wait until the tournament is nearly completed, and after you lost to Starblaydia calls the true reason of your griping into question. Frankly, whether you meant this ICly or OOCly, you've come off as whiny and immature, both items we would not expect from someone with considerable experience in other NS play.

When LE is telling you to man up, you have a problem.
