Time to bumpify this.
I also might be willing to host it, if I can find enough time in the next week or two to build a decent scorinator.

If you need any extra teams, I'm sure we can scrounge up some rugby players for a team. :p

I suppose I can compete as well. Actually RP? ...maybe.

Okay, so that brings us to 19 teams. I have two possible formats in mind, one accommodating 20 teams and another that works for 24.
With 20 teams
4 groups of 5, each team plays each other team once (4 games per team)
Top 2 in each group advance to quarterfinals, then single-elimination
With 24 teams
8 groups of 3, each team plays each other team twice (4 games per team)
Top 2 in each group advance to round of 16, then single-elimination
The 20-team format includes 8 total matchdays (including one bye needed in the group stage). The 24-team format includes 10 total matchdays (including two byes needed in the group stage).
I have also successfully completed a scorinator for the event. It's actually more like a full-blown simulator, generating each play during the game, but if I posted the full results of that, well, your RP flexibility would go down the tubes. So instead I'll give you guys two options regarding how you want the scores to be posted:
(a) Broken down by quarter, like so:
1 2 3 4 T
Oliverry 0 10 12 14 36
Vephrall 24 7 7 7 45
(b) Just the final score:
Oliverry 36, Vephrall 45
The Orion Islands
04-10-2007, 18:20
sign The Orion Islands Werewolves up for this event.
I could go with the quarter by quarter format.

As I said in IRC, final score would be better. If you want to kill creativity, then go by quarters
New Manhattan

Van Prooijen University of New Manhattan, sixty-time national collegiate gridiron champions, will enter its “national” team in the tournament. As gridiron isn’t very popular in the Unified Capitalizt States, neither Capitalizt SLANI nor 자스연 (Jasīʼyūn) has interest in assembling a national team (and such a team would consist almost entirely of VPU’s players anyway). VPU will compete under the name Unified Capitalizt States.
I don’t particularly care either way, but I’d prefer only having the final score, rather than the box score.
(a) Broken down by quarter, like so:
1 2 3 4 T
Oliverry 0 10 12 14 36
Vephrall 24 7 7 7 45
vs
(b) Just the final score:
Oliverry 36, Vephrall 45
By Quarters.
just posting the Final Score will lead to too many RP's like this:
Team X 34- Team Y 30
Team X scores 4 TD's in the final 4 minutes to stun Team Y who had lead 30-6 before QB Joe Blow led a furious comeback by....

Qazox: If it does not happen in the World Cup, why would it happen here? And anyway, a time out could be able to shake the players well enough to to score 4 touchdowns in 10 minutes :p

Just bumping this up so people get signed up. If we get more than 24 entrants, those who signed up after 24, what should we do with them?
Vephrall
21-10-2007, 04:47
Anyone after 24 will be placed on the waiting list - if any of the signed-up nations should cease to exist before the start of the tournament, the waiting list nations would replace them.

Bump
I got an idea how about 2 groups of eleven teams with everybody playing everyone else. Then the top 8 teams from each group are ranked 1-16 and they playoff like this 1-16 2-15 and then there like brackets in ncaa. Or all the teams are ranked 1-22 after the first round then 11-22 have play offs.

Just as long as it starts sometime before the end of the year...

How about that since matarsland signed up why dont we do this 4 groups with six teams and since i dont see a 24 sign up we could just make an international squad with 2 ( or more) Members of competing nations

Signup deadline is now officially set for Sunday at 5pm Eastern (2100 UTC). If we don't have a 24th team by then, the tournament will proceed with three groups of six and one group of five.
