The 1st officer seemed rather nervous however he had to ask anyway " Soooooo captain; are you sure this is a good idea? I mean we've never really been outside out own territory. " Captain Richard didn't seem to concerned with what his 1st officer had to think at this moment. " You know, this is the 1st time we've ever been outside our meager 20 lightyears of territory. I really feel its time if we find out whats really out there, we know other races exist, however its been nearly 100 years since we have had the ability to travel faster than life. We've spent tons of resources building a navy, but for what? To sit by Cranberry and run drills? " The captain decided it was time to give the bridge crew a little pep talk. He walked out onto the bridge " You see Jenkins, this ship! This great ship built just to explore, of course the fact its a battleship could be taken the wrong way, however its the fastest and toughest ship we have, helm increase speed to warp 8. "
The NNS Ricochet was indeed a impressive peirce of machinery, purpose built to be able to handle most enemy warships, it was also purpose built to be able to travel in speeds excess of warp 9, while most ships from the Cranberry Federation have trouble breaking warp 5. Its mission was clear, to make 1st contact with another intelligent species. However, the crew, being very xenophobic none of the crew thought it would be a good idea, this could prove to be very interesting.
The ship cruised along several thousand times the speed of light, waiting for someone to make to say something, anything.
OOC: Yeah you might be thinking another Star Trek Tech nation, but I don't like focusing on tech to start with, this is open. Think of the ship as the NX-01 From Enterprise, being a trek fan I just cant help myself. I do like a good plot and story tho, thats why I try to keep intros general.
There was beep on the sensor that caught the young ensigns’ attention. Truth be told he was surprised to see anything out this far, but it was the first bit of excitement that he had seen in some time.
He took a moment to run the incoming ship sensor through his data base, it didn’t take long to discover that it was on unknown origins.
“Hey Cap, I have a UFO in bound, on an approach vector.” Shout the ensign quickly.
For a moment the Captain stopped to think, making first contact was always a bit tricky. “Alright move us to orange status, try and open a signal to UFO.” Answered the Captain after a moment

The oops officer shouted out somewhat loudly " Captain, we are being hailed by an unknown vessel, configuration is...interesting, they're on a course to intercept us, very close sir. " The captain seemed very excited to find a new race this fast, however he knew that this could go very wrong very fast.
" Yellow alert, shields up. And open a channel, I want to know who these people are " The captain gesuted to the comm officer " Undefined Vessel, this is the Battlecrusier Ricochet, can you please indentify yourself, we do not mean harm "
The ship was still traveling very quickly, but at the last possible second the captain gave the order to drop to impulse speed. And the Ricochet dropped out of warp in a huge flash next to the unknown vessel.

Tension built on the bridge as the unknown ship came up along side them, lasting that anyone wanted to was to do something that might push them into a conflict situation, but they did not want to be caught unprepared.
"This is Captian Miles Thradon of the TLD Bradshaw, please set your business in this Sector"
He had already dispatched their position back to command and a small task force was being sent to within earshot should trouble arise, but they would remaining out sight as not provoke their 'new found' aquitence.

Three months. That's how long they'd been drifting since the attack. Blown off course, no contact with the rest of the Empire, subspace travel failed. Captain Ziguener was beginning to worry.
"Supplies are running low and it's been weeks since we last passed a habitable planet." his XO had said. "What are we going to do whe we run out of food?"
The Artembares, a mid-grade cruiser of the Imperial Fleet, had been attacked by rogues while they were answering a distress call from a colony under attack. Proceeding from Vardacia, they were outnumbered and overwhelmed. It was only the powerful shielding units that had saved them from complete destruction, although Ziguener was beginning to think death would have been preferable to what lay ahead.
The men were getting restless. The civil unrest (http://z11.invisionfree.com/Antarctic_Oasis/index.php?showtopic=567) the Empire was facing was already working on their nerves when they answered the colony's call, and the months of aimless drifting hadn't helped things. What made matters worse was that the ship's astropath, the psionic link to subspace and then to home, had stopped communicating with anyone- he just sat there, in his cradle, staring into nothing.
"Captain..." The navigation officer.
"What?"
"I'm picking something up."
Ziguener sighed. Another desolate moon or comet, probably.
"Ships, sir! Two! My god, ships!"
The bridge erupted in a buzz, and Ziguener shouted to keep it down.
"Classifications... unknown. They aren't Imperial, sir, but it looks like they have the same atmosphere and biologicals as we do... by the Emperor, contact!"
Ziguener rubbed his temples. "Hailing channels. Broadcast ID and distress message. Continue until they respond."
This is the cruiser Artembares, part of the Fleet of the Great Star Empire of Allech-Atreus. We are off-course and in desperate need of assistance...

Captain Thradon allowed himself a brief sigh as the signal from the new inbound ship came in. "What is this? did we stumble upon the universal meeting place" he said to no one other then himself. Thingg were quickly becoming more and more complicated, the amount of paper work invovled with enormous, and now they had a distress call.
However, in the end it was a distress call, and regulation stated that any disstress call go not go unanswered, so he had no choice to respond.
He gave a breif nod to his comm officer who promtly open a channel. Captain Thadon spoke clearly so not to be missunderstood by anyone "Attention cruiser Artembares, what is your current situation, and what type of assistance to you requirer?"
