International Bird Identification Society

Pinguinum
08-09-2007, 23:56
I propose to found a new society for the involvment of nations interested in protecting, conserving and investigating the nature of birds across the globe.
You must register here first by stating your wish to join.
Go to IBIS here! (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/International_Bird_Identification_Society)

Signed,
Rt. Hon. Clive Dive MPP
Minister of Society

PS. Important note
I wish to state that the 3rd word in the title, which cannot be changed (by me) is intended to be identification. This was simply a typographical error on my part.
Please take this into account.

Of course birds should be indented. Pinguinum is such a thoughtful country.

Thank you. I must do this as a nation based on the penguin - a truly remarkable bird. All birds deserve a chance.

Indentification is all very well in theory, but in practice? Can you imagine the world's paragraphs heaving with indents every time they mention birds? Or the (supposedly) fairer sex?

The entire proposition needs to be much more standardised. Perhaps we can reduce the problem with indentation by forcing people to insert a line break every time they talk about the feathered beasts?
Pinguinum

Just a note. I will need at least 18 votes for yes.

3 of these will make up the committee. With more members, it will be neccessary to have more committee members.

President
Treaurer

PLEASE VOTE "YES" FOR THE BIRDS!

What would be the society's position on bird ownership? Certainly clipping bird's wings would be, like, heresy or something, right? What about cages that are too small for flight? And falconry/hawking for recreation?

I enjoy watching birds (not that I know the names of 2/3 of them; I'm not lame/cool enough to be uber-intense about it) and my country may be willing to join the society.

Possibly tomorrow (Monday). HM King Dwight would love a face-to-face meeting to seal the alliance. The Royal jet should arrive in the morning.

At present, my views on the society's future policies are as follows (in reflection to your query):

Birds may be tagged for identification purposes - how this is to be done shall be debated.
We will be a society that will monitor the effects of the environment (built and natural) on birds. In some cases, subject to future vote, the scoiety may deem it a sensible apporoach to cage certain species to ensure their survival and may also exclusively permit anyone witha valid license to keep animals. This will include that of pigeon racing, hawking shows etc. This will be discussed further once the society is officially created. It important that this encompasses the whole of the avian class (aves) from Penguins, emus, and ostriches to eagles.
In addition to this, the society may grant a license to farmers who wish to kill chickens or turkeys. This has to be done humanely.

The abbreviation will be IBIS. I have created a logo already but if the society takes off (excuse the pun) I will open up a competition to design one.

PS. I enjoy the variety of birds and the marvel of them but I wouldn't say I knew that much about them.

So you'll know all about looking after them, ensuring they don't die out.
I expect Mr Jones would also know what Diomedea is. There is more to bird identification.
If you read the rest of what I have written before, you will discover it is more than just identifying them.

Greetings!

We have heard about this Society from Mr. Colombano Traziello of the Royal Society of Birdwatchers (Scaglio Rinna d'Avogardettu, SRdAg). Mr. Traziello had informed us that SRdAg had already joined this umbrella group, and he is encouraging the Nord-Brutlandese government to officially join also. However, we would like to ask a few questions:

Would the organization be composed of governments, or entities separate from the government?
What would be the Society's mission and function?
What concrete steps would be done in order to achieve these goals?
What would be the privileges and responsibilities a member would have?

Thank you and we hope for a reply soon.

I, Keith Webfoot, although employed by the government am not an MPP. I am a civil servant (address below).
I will be the first president. It will therefore be a separate entitiy supported by His Majesty who is not controlled by the government. It was his idea. He has appointed me as the representative.
The mission apart from obviously providing international services in dentifying birds aims to support the habitats and further protect any species of bird that IBIS deems endangered. We will also discuss any future roles once the societ is fully established.
It may be neccarsary for IBIS members at least to set up breeding programmes, provide education and possible research stations.
Apart from being part of a distinct group, IBIS offers members the chance to take leading roles as part of the committee. Each decison will be subject to vote.
The responsbilities will come with the votes to which you must choose.
Committee members will be granted 1 veto per each term they are voted.

Hope this answered all your questions. Please feel free to write to me at the following address:

Good day!

If Environment Minister Dr. l'Englàntino had not informed you, the United Kigndom of Brutland and Norden designates the Stiutte Rinna d'Avogardettu (SRdAg; Royal Society of Birdwatchers) as the representative of the country.

SRdAg is registered as a 6(f) organization, meaning it is royally and privately funded, thus the government does not support it financially and politically and it can lobby the government. I presume SRdAg president Mr. Colombano Traziello will contact you soon for their votes after they had held their monthly meeting.

Thank you very much!
