Welcome to the Hatchling Cup!
Hosted by Sel Appa, with support from the Archregimancy.

The Hatchling Cup, also known as the 24th Baptism of Fire for the 37th NationStates World Cup, will be a simple standard tournament structure with 4 groups of five teams. There will be a one-leg round-robin bale (group) stage. The top two nations according to points earned(3 for a win, 1 for a draw) will advance to a Knockout Round. There will be a third-place match between semifinal losers. There will be a bye day for each team on different matchdays to ensure an equal number of matches are played

The Football Federation of Sel Appa welcomes all nations who have entered the Hatchling Cup to Sel Appa. We hope you enjoy your stay. All teams will be based in the Grand Nemnenait Hotel (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12926078&postcount=393), unless another hotel is needed closer to a stadium. Travel will be provided free of charge once in Sel Appa. All teams will travel by plane or train to each stadium. Three meals a day will be provided in various restaurants, sampling different components of Sel Appan cuisine, as well as foreign cuisines. Accommodations will be gladly provided for non-human players. Please refer to the Travel in Sel Appa (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Travel_in_Sel_Appa) NSWiki article to learn about visiting Sel Appa.

OOC:
Naming:
I gave this all a turtle spin (Sel Appa's team is called the Turtles, after the national animal). You may use either Hatchling Cup or Baptism of Fire 24, or some variation thereof. Also, groups are called bales (a group of turtles), but you can still say group if you want.

Scorination:
Each matchday, matches are scorinated (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Scorinate) using a program (NS Footy Sim 1.2.4 in this case) or a spreadsheet that utilizes random numbers, RP Bonuses, and ranks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/KPB_ranking_system) to create scores. You then RP the match using the score given.

Scorinations will usually be posted around:
2000 EDT (New York)
0000 UTC (Zulu Time)
0100 BST/WEST (London)
1700 PDT (California)
1000 AEST (Sydney)

RPing:
In order for this tournament to be fun and interactive, all nations are encouraged to RP based on the scores presented each day. To help encourage RPing, an RP bonus (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/RP-bonus) is given to all RPs. The higher the quality of the RPing, the more of a bonus you will get. A higher RP bonus increases your chances of winning. The bonus will remain cumulative throughout the tournament. You should also post a roster, such as Sel Appa's (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12862940), that includes player and team information. Most importantly, you should note what your opponent may do if they RP the match before you.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers Y/N
Godmod Scoring Events Y/N
RP injuries to my players Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players Y/N
Hand out Yellow cards to my players Y/N
Hand out Red cards to my players Y/N
Godmod Other Events Y/N

Style Modifier:
A style modifier is how defensive or offensive your team is. It can range from -5 (defensive) to 5 (offensive), and can be decimals.

RP Ideas:
Commentary
Diary of a Player
Match Report
News Article
Random (but somewhat relevant, like poetry)

For your convenience, the following NSWiki pages are available to help in your RPs. They include stadiums that will be used. Some articles may not yet be completed, but those that are complete will be marked at the bottom as such. New information may be added during the tournament. (ooc: In Prux.. Football is very commonly confused with Foosball..)

PRUXTON PRESS

As one of the newest nations in the world, Prux has decided to enter the strange world of Foosball. While traditionally played on a 2'x4' table in Prux, evidently there is a life size version as well. It is unknown whether or not the players themselves will have to play with life-size metal poles through their bodies, and if so, two questions need answering? Firstly, who shall be the person to control the poles? Secondly, is there a way to make the poles non-life threatening? Appearently, the host nation, Sel Appa, probably has figured out a way to not have people die due to the large poles, and Prux will ask for the relevant technology.

Recluse Island

Recluse Island Announce Squad For Hatchling Cup and World Cup 37

Information on the island:
-Recluse Island first became inhabited when a large passenger ship (ferrying both lawyers and accountants to an auditing seminar) became shipwrecked on the west side of the island. These new inhabitants quickly set up complex laws and accounting standards, as well as establishing the basic necessities (such as food, housing, education and healthcare).
-The large population of Recluse Island (over 100 million) has caused the islanders to artificially expand the size of the island.
-Shipwrecks are a common occurrence on Recluse Island, due to the ever expanding land mass of the island causing havoc with the accuracy of maps.
-The national animal is a medium-sized reptile with a small fin on its back and a nasty disposition (known as the ‘loan shark’).
-Law and accounting are compulsory in schools.
-The currency is the almighty dollar

Players to watch:
Jose Pedro dos Santos Neto- Fantastic technical ability, Jose Pedro dos Santos Neto is the R-Leagues top goal scorer. R-League commentators would prefer him to take a nickname though..
Jose Sierra- Brilliant playmaker, but is becoming slow in his hold age. Still has amazing ability as long as he doesn’t have to run.
Niclas Kjaer- Speedy and highly talented winger, if anyone in the Recluse Island team can break down opposition defences using blistering speed, it’s him.
Al & Phil Newland- These two identical twins can play in either fullback role and frequently swap positions to confuse the opposition.

I'm not really sure what other people do for jerseys, but what I did was copy a sample jersey from Wikipedia and just modify it in Paint. If you tell me the colors you want, I can make one for you: Home and Away. Or you can ask in the World Cup Discussion Thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=536285).

PRUXTON PRESS

This intrepid reporter has found out some good news, some bad news, and the gnus that have been plaguing Pruxton over the last month. In order:

The good news: there is no metal poles involved at all with World Cup level Foosball. Yes, you read that correctly, NO METAL POLES! Appearently, all 11 players on the field can run around independently without any person(s) controlling their movements, which will possibly increase the chances of scoring a goal. One of the players, 3.1415 had this to say about there being no metal poles involved:
3.1415: 3.14159 26535 89793 23846 26433 83279 50288 41971 69399 37510.
We aren't quite sure exactly what he said, but the closest translation is: "Thank God, those damn poles hurt like a sumabitch."

The bad news: As hard as I looked, I could not find any information about the countries in our Bale (group for you non-Testudinephiliacs..[Turtle Lovers for those of you who haven't graduated 7th grade]). This makes it difficult to find out any potential strengths or weaknesses the Prawns could expolit.

And finally the Gnus: Appearently, a Mr. Ryan Ccrest has a farm of Gnus just outside of Pruxton. Last month someone drove over his Gnu enclosure and that is how his 20 Gnus left his farm. We are pleased to report that all 20 Gnus have been re-captured, and Mr. Ccrest has promised to not use duct-tape as an animal encloseure in the future. He has decided to use masking tape.

The Coshairs Expect
In a press conference this morning the Head Coach of the national team Luke Tarr commented after examining the bale had this to say about the teams chances in the next match.
" While we have very little information on the other teams I feel that we might have a chance against every team in our bale which of course is not certain, but as is always said about football anything can happen."
He was then asked who the defence would have to look out for " Well from the little we know I have found out from watching videos of their league games I think that Bloodaxe is a deadly finisher we will need Ellesy (Mike Ellen) to be at his best as he always will try to do for me." he ended the press conference on a upbeat note " We will meet our expectations of a respectable victory in this match I can promise you that."

The ancient longhouse was filled with the smell of woodsmoke and roast meat, the young ones of the village had assembled near the fire for the telling of tales by the village skald (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skald).

"Gather round children and I shall tell you the Fotballsaga. The story was passed down to me by my father, who learned it from his father. It is the tale of Egill Skallagrímsson, the Fotballer-Skald who told it to my ancestors when he returned from the Verden Koppen."

The children leaned forward, their eyes shining in the dancing firelight and he began his tale.

Long ago, in the age of steel and longships, Odin, the Everwise, the Allfather, Spearshaker, God of Ravens, King of the Aesir, Lord of the Golden Hall of Valhalla, heard of a new game. He had just led his warriors in conquest over the Jotnar, the evil giants who oppose the Gods of Asgard, and needed a worthy task for his warriors. Judging rightly that mere mortals could not stand against the almighty Aesir, he sent the mightiest of his mortal warriors to do battle for glory on the Fotball pitch.

Ivar the Boneless, though weak of leg, was keen of mind, and was appointed their cheif. The Bersërkir departed upon an enchanted longship, built by Odin's own craftsmen, and set sail for the far off southern land of Sel Äppä. Sel Äppä is a land of hot, bright sunlight, forests, sand and turtles. Sel Äppä is also a land of many laws, and their port guards insisted that the Bersërkir surrender their weapons, mead and bearskin clothing. They of course, refused, and after much arguing, they were allowed to pass into the realm. Sel Äppä is also a land of many words.

The Bersërkir were to battle four other groups of Fotball warriors. Savage master chefs from Barbeques, the Land of Fire and Charcoal, another long winded group from The Coshairs, mysterious shadow warriors from Oickoidia and strangest of all, an army of geese from the land of Uiri. Vikingholm was set to battle The Coshairs first, Ivar the Boneless had his men up early, preparing their gear and sharpening weapons for the battlefield.

Tribe Ties, Cat Stuck In Tree
In an anticlimactic introduction to the international stage, the Chieftains tied The Crescent Republic 1 to 1. In an interesting poll, 90% of Tremarendakians decided that a tabby cat named Fluffy getting stuck in a tree was of more national importance than this tie. Either way, the story must be told.

The match began poorly for the Tribe. Several minutes in, key forward Mish Mash left the game in a fit of rage, red carded for a wild tackle from behind. Down a man and demoralized, the Tribe allowed a quick goal by a Crescent Republic midfielder. Down 1 - 0 at half, nearly half the Tremarendakian supporters left early, fearing heavy traffic were they to leave later.

The Tribe was not out yet, however. Early into the second half, the single-named striker Duro drove past several defenders after a wonderful pass from midfielder Livulo. Duro failed to score on the drive, but was fouled just outside the box, and a beautifully placed direct free kick buy Duro flew past the keeper for the score.

Asked to comment, the Tremarendakian manager said only:

Chieftains in Tremarendakia tolerate only victory. Match day two will not be another tie.

PRUXTON PRESS

A win, a loss, and a draw dominate the headlines today.

First things first, The win. the Prawns in their first ever match came away with a 4-1 win over Vanek Drury Brieres. Lead by two goals from The Sphinx
who riddled the VDB keep with shot after shot, and a pair of goals from 007, who showed that one goal is not enough. The lone VDB gaol came in the 89th minute when Red Herring was distracted by a friend he saw in the stands, one Deus X. Machina. After the match, Harring claimed he was distracted when his freind stood up and waved at him. The Sphinx scored in the 11th and 17th minutes, while 007's goals came 7 minutes apart in the 63rd and 70th minutes.

The loss: A display was stolen during the match from Prux's only museum, the Museum of Shiny Things. Among the items stolen ware: A gum-wrapper, a balled-up piece of aluminum foil, a new penny and the Prux Diamond. Authorities are looking for a man, who may or may not be naked, but armed with a gun.

The Draw: Two of Prux's best artists had a Draw-off today. Mr. Michaelangelo Scribble and Mr. Leonardo Doodle each had 30 seconds to draw the best picture they could. Mr. Doodle draw a stick-figure dog barking at the moon, while Mr. Scribble drew a stick-figure woman with large breasts. Needless to say, Mr. Scribble won the competition.

Victorious start for Recluse Island

Recluse Island began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over New Brittonia in somewhat controversial fashion through veteran Jose Sierra.

A New Brittonia defender sent a back-pass to his own goalkeeper, who proceeded to pick the ball up. The Recluse Island manager (who is also the team’s barrister) quoted two clauses within Law 12 of the Laws of the Game to the match official. These clauses prohibit the goalkeeper from intentionally handling the ball when a team-mate uses his feet to intentionally pass them the ball. An indirect free kick was awarded to Recluse Island from the point on the forward edge of the goal area closest to where the offence occurred.

36-year old Jose Sierra proceeded to hit a stunning free-kick to put the Islanders ahead in the 42nd minute of the match. New Brittonia were unable to find the equaliser in a rather even second half, and the game remained 1-0.

Rumours that the Recluse Island coaching staff has spent most of their budget on lawyers to find such clauses are completely unfounded.

The Miceland where squeaking amung themselves, anyone around would hear it in the language that they think in but as only those that where around where mice everyone around heard it as squeaks. Though as we're observing them we can understand what they say.

"Pity the team didn't go to the Baptism of Fire, We got tickets organised accomodation and even got the necessary magical items we need to be bigulated."

"You were still going to get bigulated? That's quite old, I would have just gone our normal mousey size. Those human devices are so easy to manipulate with magic"

"Well, I wanted to experience it like the humans do... I would like to have gone with my family. We could have had some fun...

"What, all 25 of you biguilated?"

"Well, no only 5 of us wanted to go."

"Oh, well, why don't you still go. You spent all that money, why not?"

"Yeah, alright, I think we'll go..."

3 hours later, the 5 mice got on their flight and started on their way to Sel Appa, not to watch the Miceland National team but just to soak up the atmosphere.

Barbeques set for date with destiny

Well folks, the Barbeques Grills are about to face their first test ever today, and my we expect it to be a whallop of a game! What can we expect from these savages of the steakhouse? These hot dogs of wieners? These crappy cliches that I'm quickly running out of? The games that the Barbeques Grills will be forced to play don't promise to be easy, but perhaps a menu of what will soon be cooked up is in order. Being placed in Bale C might be a bit coincidental for Barbeques. C.. Charcoal? Cook? Crispy? These might be hints from a greater power that Barbeques are willing to exploit.

The Coshairs had a pretty decent start against Uiri yesterday but they were up against an opposition that offered worse defence at something like, say, the Alamo. Don't get us wrong, The Coshairs look like a strong, strapping bunch of gentleman but when you're frying at 350 degrees celsius you can't do much to stop another team like us from scoring. We predict at least 1 point from The Coshairs, maybe even 3 if cheeky.

Oickoidia dropped their opening game to Vikingholm but that doesn't mean they're out of the tournement just yet. Just a 1 goal loss does leave you out 3 points but it isn't a romp that can leave a team shattered for the rest of the round robin. These shadow warriors have been silent, like shadows, in hopes of geting the jump on their opposition. The flame of a grill sees all however, lighting fear into Oickoidian hearts when we do battle on the pitch. Oickoidia? Our predictions say we can possibly steal 3 points from these crafty bastards.

Uiri are f**king geese. We cook geese. No questions asked. How to you be expect to be taken seriously when you're a goose? Barbeques possess a relentless attack and excellent goalkeeping that should easily cook this cooke so well done it'll be nothing but a blacked stub of an animal. 3 points and a hearty dinner afterwards.

Vikingholm made short work of the pre-cooked geese and the Vikings may prove to be the Grill's toughest challenge of the round robin. The can sharpen their cooking utensils, get out the skins and pelts, but we have the power to cook their asses back to Valhalla. But since they made quick work disposing of the geese for us, we hold them in a certain higher regard for at least preparing a meal for us to fry up on the barby. 1 point is expected, possibly 3 if we're on fire.

So a minimum of 8 point is expected, possibility of a perfect 12 to open the Baptism of Fire, or to cook to the hatchlings. Eggs are best done on the grill if not runny! Good luck grills, now time for the national team's song!

"Beware! Beware! The Grills have come.
A victory we will earn.
Beware! Beware! We're number one.
The opposition we will burn.

So **** the warning label
And give the grill a light!
No doubt that we'll be able,
to burn em' in a fight!

Beware! Beware! The Grills have come.
A victory we will earn.
Beware! Beware! We're number one.
The opposition we will burn."

OOC: I put the song up because i'm not sure if I put that in my roster it would go under as part of a roleplay. I only want to count this song once as a roleplay, and that is on matchday 3.)

Bale analysis

Vikingholm - Well they won their first match 1-0 however any team can do that if our strikers especially the Sk are at their best we could be in for a good match. Position prediction 3rd, Match prediction 3-1.

Barbeques - A very strong team that can cause problems we hope that our defenders are at their best for a grilling but on the break we might score so this will be the game of the Bale. Position prediction 2nd/1st, match prediction 2-2 or 2-1.

Oickoidia - the dark horses we must on guard against relaxing we must also field a strong midfield as this game will be won or lost in midfield. Position prediction 5th/4th, Match prediction 3-0 or 3-2.

Uiri - we beat this team but they could also be a dark horse we beat them on great finishing but they could come out on top against most team. Position prediction 5th/4th/3rd, Match result 3-0.

And so we will expect 11 or 12 points and our top goal scorer is predicted to be the one and only Sk we will wait and see.

OOC: like I said before, Orange is Uir.

Uir Geese loos first match!

3rd of September, 203rd year after the 1UR

There was a shocking turn of events yesterday when the Uir Geese didn't score a single goal against the Corshairs. Their offense couldn't get it by the goalie despite all the efforts of Okudil, Aserdum, Seropit, Wesav and Ederat. Even when the subs, Yonim, Galorinos, Vinopetin and Smit tried they couldn't get a goal past niether Ellen or Osman the goalies of the team.

Durab got a near goal, Ederat too. Aserdum had a near assist to Serapit but it was unfairly called an offside. Of course, none of Uiri's players argued.

The Corsairs got three goals however. The first two were in the first half. Less than a minute in Kose scored. Kose scores again, 11 minutes later. Kilod is subbed for Hulo in the second half. Copra scores on Hulo, what a shame.

Bale B Analysis And Predictions

Bale B in the Hatchling Cup is host to only two nations who appear to care about the outcome of the Cup so far, those being Prux and Tremarendakia. On match day 1, Prux emerged victorious with a 4 - 1 win over VDB, as Tremarendakia tied 1 - 1 with The Crescent Republic. Following these matches, The Tribal Times has been able to better size up Bale B, and is now content to analyze the group.

Analysis

The Crescent Republic: An unknown nation on the world football stage, no national pride has yet been shown in TCR, and their first day tie with the Tribe went uncovered by TCR press. History has shown, teams with little backing at home tend to do little in competition.

Integrite: Another as yet silent nation, no rosters have even been officially filed by this team. Sitting on a bye on match day 1, Integrite will soon have to put up large numbers to attract attention from the Tribe.

Prux: Seen as Tremarendakia's biggest challenge in the group stage, Prux is backed by a strong news coverage at home. Crushing VDB 4 - 1 on match day 1 was easy though, how will their easily distracted keeper fare against a true challenge from the Tribe?

Tremarendakia: The only truly worthy nation in Bale B. An unacceptable tie on match day 1 has been promised to never happen again by the Tribe's manager, and we can expect to see some great football on match day 2.

Vanek Drury Brieres: Just one more unknown nation with no following. The only difference between them and The Crescent Republic? These guys lost. Bad.

Predictions

1st Place: Tremarendakia
Runner Up: Prux
Group Goal Leader: The Sphinx (Prux), 10 goals

Vikingholm
03-09-2007, 23:28
Vikingholm's warriors were greatly confused when they emerged onto the appointed field of battle. Instead of Coshairs, whatever those may be, they were to face the savage warriors of Ockoidia. There were also four Sel Äppän warriors present with a ball, but unarmed and without armor. This, evidently was the reknowned fotball that had been spoken of by Odin. Even more surprising than the appearance of the shadow warriors, the four Sel Äppäns called themselves by many titles, meaning they were the lords of this battlefield, and declared the rules of this challenge to our brave Bersërkir.

Our warriors were made to set their weapons aside and move the ball about the field with their feet. The hands were forbidden to use except for Sigurd, who was permitted so long as he remained within a square marked with dyes upon the grass. The Bersërkir were to move the ball to one end of the field where a frame of beams, strung with fishnets was placed. Another frame was placed next to Sigurd's square, for the Bersërkir to defend. It was a very strange challenge, but the Bersërkir, who know no fear, accepted.

This new sport proved very difficult to master, and was made more difficult when the Battle Lords would name new rules betimes. It was not permitted to strike the foe with hands or feet, or to run outside of the largest of the dyed squares with the ball. This Fotball was a sport of excessive rules.

The Oickoidians seemed well prepared for this sport, and were well able to keep the ball from our Bersërkir. Ivar was so enraged by this that he smote upon the sheild he rested upon with his sword and called out, "Why run ye away from such worthless creatures, stout men that ye are, when, as seems to me likely, ye might slaughter them like so many cattle? These skrælingar are scarce worthy opponents for such warriors as ye! Turn and destroy them!"

The Chief of the Battle Lords blew mightily upon his magic whistle, a treasure surely bestowed upon him by the Gods of Fotball, whence came his power over the battle, and it was stopped. He pulled from his pocket, a small square of yellow painted metal, marvelously light, and showed it to Ivar. As Ivar reached out to take the gift, the Lord replaced it in his pocket and wrote his name upon a small piece of parchment. In the many words of that land, he told Ivar that, should he shout thusly again, the Lord would produce a different metal, painted red, and Ivar would be banished henceforth from the battlefield.

Shamed by Ivar's call and by the insult to their chieftan, the Bersërkir fought as hard as they could, and managed to once put the ball into the fishnet of the shadow warriors, before the Kampenlord blew again upon his whistle of power and proclaimed the battle to be finished and the Bersërkir the victors.

Exclusive Interview with Geese Coach

H: Hello, and welcome to today's SportSpecial. I am in Sel Appa, with the coach of the Uir Geese. Tell me, what do you think of the team you're up against?

C: Thank you, Hak. Well, even though it's probably pretty late right now in Uiri, the game is starting as we speak. We had a shameful start against the Corshairs but I'm sure this game will have a better result and prove that we can compete at the international level.

H: Good. Any reason that the players didn't notice the offside?

C: Good question. Well, if you're down 2-0 in a game and it's the second half, any football player can be distracted. Especially if you deek out one player too many.

H: Ah. I see. Why did both goalies let in atleast one goal?

C: Well, the first goal was very, very unexpected. The second one was a decent effort on the Corshairs and the last one was purely because the sub was tired. He may be a good goalie but he tires too easily to be our main goalie.

H: OK. Do you think the Geese may still scrape up a second place finish?

C: I think we can get a first place finish. Of course, no one will believe me with our current track record. Don't worry Uiri, we will pull out a win!

H: Thank you. That's all the time we have for now. Good bye and good night!

The Tribal Times

Tribe Victorious!

In an excellent display of skill, the Chieftains overcame their match day 1 disappointment and won an easy 2 - 1 victory over Vanek Drury Brieres. The win puts Tremarendakia atop the Bale B standings with 4 points, tied with The Crescent Republic but winning on goal differential. The Tribe's two goals formed a sandwich with VDB meat, with one goal before half (Mik, 27th minute), a VDB goal quickly after the beginning of the second half, and another Chieftain's goal to finish out the game. (Duro, 67th minute) Asked to comment, the Tribal coach put his team's goals into perspective:

Now all we need to do is hold on.

The Tribe now gears up to face Prux, who are coming off a bye week.

Recluse Island Win Again

Recluse Island remains in first place in Bale A of the Hatchling Cup in a 6 goal thriller against Wehrmacher. Recluse Island are now 3 points ahead after two games.

The scoring began at the 10 minute mark when defender Aaron Carle headed home a cross from Niclas Kjaer after a one of Kjaer’s trademark runs down the left flank. Kjaer continued his dominance down the left flank when, on the 31st minute, Pavel Nykl got on the end of another cross to make it 2-0.

After the break Wehrmacher began to get more of the ball and on the 52nd minute exposed a slow Recluse Island defence on the counter attack, snatching a goal to make it 2-1. It was then that substitute midfielder Jorge Morales made his presence known, finishing off a through ball by defender Nick Vujacic, extending the Islander’s lead to 3-1 on the 64th minute.

Things began to look as though Wehrmacher could be back in the game, when a mix-up between goalkeeper Steven Tilovski and midfielder Francis Diarra resulted in an own goal after a dodgy backpass from Diarra, making the score 3-2 in the 77th minute.

Recluse Island finally put the game beyond doubt in the 85th minute, when a Wehrmacher defender was deemed to have handled the ball in the penalty area (after much complaining to the referee from the Recluse Island bench). Jose Pedro dos Santos Neto slotted home the penalty to give Recluse Island the 4-2 win.

Replays show no conclusive evidence to the suggestion that the hand was in fact that of Recluse Island substitute Gerard Wright.

In other good news for Recluse Island, New Brittonia defeated Ambrose-Douglas 2-0, meaning that the Recluse Island team has already defeated the team in second place in Bale A.

This means while your opponents are busy running around like...people runnign around, your team gets to sit back, relax, have a few adult beverages, and a few willing adults of the opposite sex. This concept of a "Bye Date" intrigued the Pruxian president so much, that he was caught having a "Bye Date" with someone, who isn't his wife.

The Bye-Bye: As mentioned above, President Glenn Quagmire was caught havinga "Bye Date" with his secretary, a Miss Demeanor. His wife, Mrs. Quagmire promptly filed for divorce. When asked about the affair, President Quagmire was quoted as saying:

Georg Nbent in "The fresh prince of the bales"

Well this is the story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down, and I'd like to take a minute just sit right there, I'll tell you how I become the prince of a Cup in Sel Appia. In west Vuam and Isma born and raised, on the pitch is wher I spent most of my days. Shoutin' out, tacklin' shootin', all cool and all playin' some football outside of training, when a couple of teams that were up to no good started making trouble in my BoF. I got in one little game and my mmom got scared and said, "You're goin' with that Ewin and Robett to Sel Appia". I entered the pitch, and when I was there the opponent were Rastafariburg and they had dreads in their hair. If anything, I could say this side was rare, but I thought "Na, forget it. Yo win us this bale!" They started slow, but the ref was on their side, half an hour played and we were down to ten, by half-time we were only 9. I tried as hard as I could, but they were too rough, and my shots were wasted on their posts. Then they got lucky, and the ref gave them a penalty that was quite imaginary, at 1-0 up we went down to 8, and they got a second goal just before time. I came to the hotel about 7 or 8, and I yelled to the cabby "Yo Holmes, smell ya later!" I looked at my kingdom, I was finally there to sit on my couch as the prince of the Bales.

The VDB has lost again for a second time, this time to Tremarendakia. This little known team stunned the Vanek'ian All-Star keeper Mora Woods in the 27th and 67th minutes, as Thomas Vanek scored off a penalty kick after a vicious tackle by the Tribe's keeper. The Vanek'ians will have to win the next two games if they want to advance. And hope.

The Tribal Times

Tribe 2-1-0, Atop Bale B!

The Chieftains could hardly be better set going into their bye day tomorrow, as they now sit a with a comfortable 3 point advantage over the next team in their group.

A 2 - 1 win over Prux pushed the Tribe ahead of the group, when Livulo (54th minute) and Mera (68th minute) sealed the win for the Chieftains following an early goal (13th minute) by Prux's 007.

Now that several matches have been played, some more detailed numbers have been produced. Tremarendakia has a guaranteed spot in the next round if it can win it's final match, a draw would guarantee the next round unless Prux wins both it's next matches, and a loss would allow Prux one draw of space, with goal differential figuring the tie breaker there.

In any of these cases, this cup is looking to be a good one for Tribe fans.

Jose Pedro dos Santos Neto is Recluse Island’s hat trick hero

Jose Pedro dos Santos Neto scored a hat trick to give Recluse Island a brilliant 5-0 win over Minilla Island and qualification from Bale A of the Hatchling Cup.

Jose Pedro dos Santos Neto opened the scoring in the 7th minute after a header from a Jose Sierra corner. The 19 year old striker added another just 4 minutes later, darting through the middle of the Minilla Island defence, and simply tapping the ball past the Minilla Island goalkeeper and captain Greg Sinise.

Minilla Island began to attempt a comeback and almost scored through striker Dave Lewis, but his shot was magnificently saved by young Recluse Island goalkeeper Giovanni Prospiri. The rest of the first half was fairly even, and saw no more goals.

The second half saw Recluse Island attack straight from the whistle, with Jose Sierra scoring in the 46th minute from a fantastic lob from the half-way line catching Greg Sinise off his line. Substitute left fullback Vince Vura made it 4-0 in the 61st minute, getting on the end of a Jose Sierra free kick and putting the ball past the Minilla Island goalkeeper.

Winger Niclas Kjaer made his presence known darting down the left repeatedly until eventually fouled by Minilla Island defender Lance Brady, with referee Martin Martinez signalling for a penalty as soon as he saw Recluse Island’s lawyers stand up. Jose Pedro dos Santos Neto converted the penalty to get his hat trick and make the score a resounding 5-0.

After the match, the announcer for Island TV’s coverage of the match came down with a sore throat after having to yell JOSE PEDRO DOS SANTOS NETO! so many times during the match.
Vikingholm
05-09-2007, 03:03
OOC:
A note about Vikingholmar namings. Titles such as 'the Red' 'the Great' or 'the Dane' are not last names. The proper way to refer to individuals with these sort of titles is by their first or full names only.

Thus, Guthrum the Dane could be referred to as Guthrum, or Guthrum the Dane, not Dane, or the Dane, as multiple individuals may use the same title.

For example: Erik the Red and Þorstein the Red both have the same title. Simply refferring to one or the other as Red or the Red is not specific and is confusing.
Vikingholm
05-09-2007, 03:41
Fotball proved to be a worthy challenge for the finest warriors of Vikingholm. The sport was challenging, and so filled with rules that a man could scarce touch his enemy then the Whistle of Power should sound and he be shown the gulmetallisk, that yellow card of warning, and the dreaded rødmetallisk. The Goose Army of Uiri proved to be fearsome warriors, with skills beyond those of our Bersërkir. The Vikingholmar fought valiantly, but were worsted. The Geese made four fiskegarnballar and the Bersërkir made but three.

The next battle saw the Bersërkir facing the savage grillmeisters of Barbeques. Each side in the fight was able to make one fiskegarnball. Erik Bloodaxe had become the strongest of our warriors, himself making three fiskegarnballar in the three battles. The Bersërkir were honored among the greatest of the armies in the third group of the Angripe Avskjedige, the Challenge of Fire. There remained only to play the Coshairs, the powerful warriors, the best of the group. But surely the Bersërkir, appointed to their task by Odin himself, can overcome Skrælingar such as these.

Warriors get hammered 5-0

Sell Appa - Gaffer Ray Palen sits dejected after watching Recluse Island completely decimate a completely dysfunctional Warrior side 5-0. The midfield could do nothing about RI's defense. And, The Warrior defense was completely clueless in stopping striker Santos Neto as he embarrassed the backline repeatedly.

The die was cast when Santos Neto jumped over the top of Gary Afflitto off a corner in the 7th minute. Santos Neto would cause more grief as he drilled a shot past Sinise in th 11th minute. Dave Lewis, who was the hero in the 3-3 draw with Wehrmacher with his two goals, launced a blast outside the box that was slapped away.

The 46th minute will be one that will live in infamy. Jose Sierra took the ball just by the midfield, and launcehd a what-the-hell shot that caught the Captain well off his line and into the net. "No matter what I do in my career," Says the 27-year old Godzilla keeper, "I may never live that goal down." The Captain would give up a goal off a free kick as Vura caught the defense asleep for the 4-0 lead. A late Santos Negro Penalty added the final humiliation.

"We disgraced ourselves, and we disgraced our country." gaffer Palen says. "We knew Recluse was a solid side, but there was no excuse for this.", "We need to get ours heads back oniline for our next match." said Lewis. "This becomes a must win for us."

The lineups and strats remain the same.

A Loss, A Cross, and a Boss.

Firstly, the Loss. Prux lost it first ever match in competition to Tremarendakia 1-2 last night. Despite getting a goal from 007, the man with the golden leg, goals from the Tribe's Livulo (54th minute) and Mera (68th minute) went past Red Herring, who was distracted by a MacGuffin. For those of you who may not know what a macGuffin looks like, It's about the size of a breadbox, black or white and has either 3 wings or 5 legs, depending on wether or not it's a northern MacGuffin or a southern one. Due to Red herring's inablity to saty focued, Head Coach Head Coach (Ooc: yes that is his name) has stated that Meatball will start in net in the next game against Integrite.

The Cross: Apperently in the town of Hamburger Hill, there was a investigation to a man cruxified on a cross on a local hilltop named Golgotha. Upon further investigation, it turned out that the man was only a local prankster, named Jesus Christ. Among Christ's other reported pranks in the past few years, was turning water into wine, feeding 5000 people with only a few fish and a couple loaves of bread, and going 40 days without food and water in the desert. Christ was not available for comment, as he is spending the next three days locked in a tomb.

The Boss: Bruce Springstein is coming to Pruxton on November 31st for a concert, Tickets will go on sale at the Pruxton Civic Center tommorrow at 10 am. Floor seats are 40g (ooc: g=Guineas the currency in Prux), balcony seats are 25g and Box seats will be 15g.

---Shows footage of Barbeques goal against Vikingholm---

"Now, the Barbeques have only scored one goal, but expect around three tomorrow. The day after expect none because they are facing the Geese. On to Oickodia's goals...what? What do you mean there are no oal clips? What do you mean Oickodia is the worst team in the tournament with Integrite and Vuam and Isma? Surely they have atleast one goal? Nope, ok. Well, then that says it all. Six goals against and none for, Uiri already beat this team five-nil. Just a re-cap:

The Corshairs - 2-0-0, 4-0, expected to be first
Uiri - 2-0-1, 9-6, expected to be second
Vikingholm - 1-1-1, 5-5, expected to be dead middle, er..third
Barbeques - 0-1-1, 1-2, expected to be fourth

The culture turned off the TV in the middle of the host's sentence, "As you can see, the team is doing very well. In the World Cup we'll be able to best the Corshairs should we come face to face with them. For this tournament it's too late. The players already know the kind of result they'll end up with, a loss. The World Cup will give new hopes and hopefully allow the Players to make the top...32 I do believe. That is very impressive for a first Cup and the whole world will be watching our team after that."

"Good, very good. Once we have this we'll finally be recognized at the world level." the minister said with pleasure, "You may leave now, I wish to contemplate this information...No, leave the record here, I wish to review it."

With that, the Culture Minister left.

OOC: It's not a big deal, I just wanted to make a note for future reference. Come the world cup proper, I'll probably put that along with my roster. In old Norse culture, surnames were usually just a note of who the person was descended from. For example, Leif Eriksson and Freydis Eriksdottir were children of Erik the Red.

Anyway, don't worry too much about it.

A Draw, a Tie and a Sister-Kisser

Firstly, the Draw. Prux drew even with Integrite 1-1, after referee Kru Pix awarded a penalty kick to Integrite when Meatball supposedly handled the ball out side of the penalty area. Integrite's striker promptly squeezed the kick right over Meatball's whole-wheat roll and the tied the match in the 88th minute. Prux did score first in the 30th minute when Pies R. Round used its outer crust to knock home a corner kick from Under Where. This sets up a winner advances match with The Crescent Republic, as both teams are tied with 4 points. A draw would do neither side any good, as Vanek Drury Brieres with 6 pts would advance. Head Coach Head Coach will put Red Herring back in net for this most important game, and will put Pastrami in as an extra attacker and sit Pi, whose been rounded off to 3.

The Tie: Prux is now home to the World's Largest Bow-tie. Why any one would spend 4 days creating a 40 foot-long, 12 foot tall, 700 Lbs bow-tie is beyond anyone's guess, but at least we're in the record books.

The Sister-Kisser: In the city of ESPN, in southern Prux, someone has, over the course of the last week, been breaking into the Nunnery and appearently kissing a different Nun each night. Sister Charles Xavier of the Worchestershire Nunnery had this to say about the Sister-Kisser:

While we are the brides of Christ, not the practical joker one, we've taken a vow of chasitity, and this person is forcing us to break our vow. Granted this person is a great kisser, it troubles the Church,as it may cause unwanted feelings of lust within the sisterhood.

Police have obtained this picture from a security camera, and ask the publc's help in bringing this person to justice:

H: After an un-expected turn of events resulting in a draw between Vikingholm and the Coshairs. After these turn of events it has become apparent that Uiri must win or draw against Barbeques (In Uiri it is pronounced Bar-beks, even though it's obviously BBQs). This is not a worry for us more so than for Barbeques who will need a win inorder to qualify due to poor past performance. This means that the Geese will have to be extra careful against the Barbeques, matching goal for goal. Another thing to keep in mind is that Barbeques has a record worse than Uiri if only by a small margin, a 1-1 compared to a 4-3 against Vikingholm. Today, they beat Oickodia 5-0 just like the Geese. I also believe they didn't have as abd a loss as the Geese against Coshairs. What does this all mean? Expect Uiri to qualify. Thank you and good night.

Bale B Final Analysis and Predictions

With only one match day remaining before 12 teams are eliminated from their first international tournament, only 4 teams are absolutely secure in their passage to the next round, and 6 teams team are absolutely eliminated. This setup guarantees an exciting match day 5, and teams are setting their sights on the next round. Group B in particular has some interesting battles to look forward to. Tremarendakia sits atop the group, the only team guaranteed a spot in the next round. Vanek Drury Brieres sits in second but needs a tie between Prux and The Crescent Republic in order to advance. Prux and the Crescent Republic in turn can only advance if they alone win their match, and Integrite is an irrelevant bystander at this point, already eliminated except in truth.

1st: Tremarendakia - 7 points | 2 wins - 1 tie - 0 losses
Match Day 5 - Integrite (Prediction: 3 - 1 Tremarendakia)
Secure

In their first international competition ever, the Tribe has proved their collective mettle. Still undefeated going into match day 5 of the Hatchling Cup, the team stands as the only secure advancement into the next round. Already through, the match against Integrite tonight is of little consequence. In the next round, the Tribe will most likely play New Brittonia, who are only a win or draw away from securing second place in Bale A. Nevertheless, Wehrmacher or Minilla Island could emerge from Bale A to face the Tribe.

2nd: Vanek Drury Brieres - 6 Points | 2 wins - 0 ties - 2 losses
Match Day 5 - Bye
Requires TCR-Prux Tie

VDB is in a tense situation in their first international competition. Sitting (barely) in second place going into their bye week, this team can do nothing but pray for a TCR-Prux tie. Unfortunately for VDB, Prux is doing too well to tie. VDB will most likely be eliminated.

3rd: Prux - 4 points | 1 win - 1 tie - 1 loss
Match Day 5 - The Crescent Republic (Prediction: 4 - 0 Prux)
Need Win

Prux has stood this entire tournament as the Tribe's main competitor. Tough matches and poor breaks have relegated this team to 3rd, but they will emerge victorious and face the tough Recluse Island in the next round.

4th: The Crescent Republic - 4 points | 1 win - 1 tie - 1 loss
Match Day 5 - Prux (Prediction: 0 - 4 Prux)
Need Win

TCR has had a good tournament, but overall a lack of support at home has challenged a young team far too much. They will lose spectacularly to Prux and finish 4th in the group.

5th: Integrite - 1 points | 0 wins - 1 tie - 2 losses
Match Day 5 - Tremarendakia (Prediction: 1 - 3 Tremarendakia)
Eliminated

It's hard for a team who's first goal came just yesterday in their third match to win games. So hard in fact that at this point Integrite is absolutely irrelevant to the future of this group. Look for a big Tremarendakia win as a warmup for the next round.

Final Group Predictions:

1st Tremarendakia 10 points (Quarterfinal Vs. New Brittonia)
2nd Prux 7 points (Quarterfinal Vs. Recluse Island)
3rd Vanek Drury Brieres 6 points
4th The Crescent Republic 4 points
5th Integrite 1 point

An advance, a retreat, and a stalemate.

First the advance, Prux is into the 2nd round of the Hatchling Cup following a 3-1 victory over The Crescent Republic. 007 has a GoldenFoot, so it seems as he had 2 goals, in the 56th and 69th minutes, giving the Prawns a 2-0 lead. But Red Herring, once again distracted this time by a Maltese Falcon, allowed a goal in the 73rd minute to cut the lead to 2-1. But Pastrami managed to get its meaty filling on a header and scored in the 91st minute to finsih off TCR. Through 4 matches the goal totals are:
007: 5
The Sphinx: 2
Pies R. Round: 1
Pastrami: 1

A retreat: The annual Prux boy Scout Jamboree will be held this weekend in Pilsbury. A record gathering of 500 Boy Scouts and 100 Scout Masters is expected. Dough Boy, a Boy Scout from Zenith, will become the 1st Eagle Scout from Prux in a ceremony on Sunday. Dough Boy has been invited to Vice President Hebert's office for a private ceremony on Monday.

A Stalemate: the 1st ever Prux Chess-Championships ended in a draw, in the 1st match between Grandmaster Flash and Grandmaster B. The current standings of the 9 match final is tied at 0.5 pts each, with the first 5 points the winner. The second match will been shown live on Fox1 at 3:00 am.

Recluse Island have beaten Ambrose-Douglas 2-1 to continue their 4-game winning steak.

Recluse Island, resting most of their regular starters, were almost upset by last-placed Ambrose-Douglas, but still managed to put together a good enough performance to win.

With both teams fate in the Hatchling Cup already decided before the match, Ambrose-Douglas took to the attack immediately, and stunned the Islanders with a goal in the 8th minute.

Recluse Island found their footing and equalized in the 24th minute through a vicious left-footed strike from winger Eric Kasselbaum, from just outside the penalty box. The deadlock wasn't broken until the 66th minute, when Gerard Wright headed home from a Cleveland Farthing corner.

Recluse Island now go on to face Bale B runner-up Prux in the semi-final of the Cup.

News Anchor: There has been an incredible turn of events today. Okudil scored at 30:24 just past Sullivan and it looked like it was going to stay that way until Gasol shot and Hulo failed to block it at 88:06. Warriors March to Quarter-Finals

Sel Appa - Miniila Island's National Team rebounded nicely from a 5-0 humiliation from Recluse Island and a lackluster performance against Ambrose-Douglas with a 5-1 rout of New Brittonia to march into the Quarter-Finals of the Hatchling Cup.

Things started off slowly until Calrissian slid for an errant NB pass around central midfield. Calrissian beat NB defender, Colin Healy, to the right side, and slipped a give and go to Warwick, then one timed the pass to a streaking Jackson who slammed the ball into the short side in the 28th minute. Warwick would then be the next creator as he slipped the ball wide to Kurkowski, who looped a shot that NB Keeper, James, misjudged as it sailed into the top corner just before half-time.

The score would remain the same until the hour, when Afflitto, already having a nightmare of a tournament, would head an errant cross from NB's Dobson past the Captain at 61 minutes for an own goal. However, Afflitto would redeem himself in the 73rd minute when he caught Lewis breaking on the left side. Lewis would score on a soft chip over James. The Warriors would gain a free kick after Keegan got booked for a foul on Keltner. And, Warwick would drill a 25-yard missle at 83 minutes. Harris took over for Keltner and immediately made an impact. Keegan jammed himself with an errant boot, and Harris obliged by taking the ball and going one-on-one with James. Harris would fire a low shot that went into the corner in the 85th minute.

"New Brittonia came out early. But, we managed to break down their defense." gaffer Palen says to the press. "we finally allowed speed to be used to our advantage." "We need to continue to play the way we can play," Captain Sinise says, "We need to bring our game to the next level, and we are slowly, but surely, doing that."

The Warriors will play Group 2 winners, Tremarandakia, on Friday in the Quarter-Finals.

Lineup and strats remain the same.

A Blow-out, a Blow-up and a Big Blow.

First the Blow-out, as the Prawns set new teams record for goals and for biggest win with an impressive 6-2 win over previously unbeaten Recluse Island. 007 lead the way with 4 goals as it seems he now has a Licence to score at will. 007 scored a hat-trick in the first half with gaols int he 10th, 18th and 30th minutes, giving Prux a 3-0 lead. Red Herring did decent in net, despite allowing two goals in the 35th and 43rd minutes to Jose Pedro dos Santos Neto. Herring, claims he was distracted by a glowing briefcase, carried by one Vincent Vega, but according to Sel Appa, no such person matchign the description given by Mr. Herring was in attendance. With the score 3-2, 007 scored for the 4th and final time in the match in the 56th minute, pushing the lead to 4-2. The shpinx added a penalty kick goal in the 74th minute to make it 5-2, and Pi R. Squared rounded out the scoring in the 83rd minute. Up next is a match with The Coshairs, which sounds like a barber college, but The Coshairs are a tough defensive team, and have not allowed a goal yet this Cup.

Through 4 matches the goal totals are:
007: 9
The Sphinx: 1
Pies R. Round: 1
Pastrami: 1
Pi R. Squared: 1

The Blow-up: Early this morning, the vast majoirty of Pruxians in Pruxton were woken up to the loud explosive blast of the implosion of the Prux Dam. The Implosion, however was an Explosion, wwhich counted for the loud blast. Appearently, the head of the demolision team, a Joe Swanson, switched the red and blue wires, causing the force of the blast to be focused outward, instead of inward. There are no reported injuries at this time.

A Big Blow: Hurricane Ash is now a catergory 2 storm and still is expected to make landfall in eastern Prux. The National Guard has evacuated 78% of the homes believed to be in the path of the storm. The Pruxian Weather Service expects Ash to make a landfall sometime around 2:00 am tomorrow morning, but expect it to weaken to a Cat 1 storm as the mountainous islands to the east of Prux will weaken it a bit.

Finals Bound!

Celebrations broke out all across Tremarendakia as an 89th minute goal sent the fledgling Tribe to the premier game for incoming nations on the national stage.

In it's semifinal against Uiri, the Tribe proved that they are not going to be defeated easily. Down early 2 - 0, the Tribe didn't score until the 57th minute, but they never looked back.

That first goal came off a beautiful Duro penalty kick, the result of a flagrant tackle by the Uiri middle fullback. In the 68th minute, Duro tallied another from just outside the right corner of the 18, beating the Uiri keeper.

The match was tied for 21 minutes, and the crowd had almost resigned itself to extra time, when Livulo, following a wonderful Duro cross, bicycled a marvelous kick into the top right corner of the goal. The stadium erupted along with the nation, and Livulo was raised above thousands of adoring fans who had traveled so far for this victory.

The Tribe has only 1 game remaining until their travels are justified, as well.

A Final, a Finale and an End.

First the Final, as the Prawns defeated The Coshairs 2-0 earning their way into the Hatchling Cup final against Tremarendakia, the only team to have beaten the Prawns in this tourney. For the first time all tourney, The Coshairs gave up a goal, and for once, 007 was not apart of the scoring for Prux. 007 could not start the match, due to a leg injury, so Steak and Cheese Sub found its way into teh line up. Through 70 minutes, neither side could score, but in the 71st, The Sphinx managed to claw her way through the tough The Coshairs defense and slap a shot with her tail into the net. After spending 15 minutes lloking though the rulebook, the referee, Jeff Thomerson ruled that there is not a rule disallowing a player with a tail from using such appendage to score, so the goal counted and at was 1-0 Prux. But due to the long disscussion, there was 17 minutes of "injury time" and in the 105th minute, Steak and Cheese oozed its way past a tired defense and scored. Steak and Cheese's goal may be a record for the latest regulation goal in international competition, but technically the goal was scored at the 90+ minute. As mentioned before, this sets up a re-match with Tremarendakia, who beat the Prawns 2-1 in both team's second match. Also of note, Red Herring wore a set of horse blinders on his head, and earned his 1st ever shut-out. He will wear them in the next match as well.

Through 6 matches the goal totals are:
007: 9
The Sphinx: 2
Pies R. Round: 1
Pastrami: 1
Pi R. Squared: 1
Steak and Cheese: 1

The Finale: The final episode of Survivor:Prux aired last night and set a record viewing audience with 5.1 million people watching. The final survivor was Ollie Williams, a weatherman from Rhode Island. In the final vote Ollie got 6 of the 9 jury member's votes to beat Paddy Tanninger a Caddy Manager also hails from Rhode Island. Paddy presumably lost the vote due his wanting to fight about it attitude.

The End: Police have found serial Sister-kisser Kebert Xela. A stake-out at Abbey Gail in Utero captured the Prux' Most Wanted person. Police Chief Sitting Bull had this to say about the capture of this dangerous fugtive:

With this man behind bars, the Sisiters of Prux are safe from this sick perverted person. They can go back to molesting choir girls as in the past, without fear of a crazed madman kissing them.

PRAWNS COME THROUGH FIRE AS CHAMPIONS

The 24th edition of the Baptism of Fire is over, and the Prux Prawns have become its most recent champions, avenging an earlier loss to Tremendekia in the Final 2-0. 007, along with Uiri's Okudil were named MVP's of the tourney, as each scored over 10 goals for their teams. 007, who in Prux is jokingly refered to as The Player Who Loved Goals, got the first goal of the final on a penalty kick in the 50th minute of the game when Tremendekia' Lamarinko Ista was given a yellow card for tackling The Shpinx too hard in teh penalty area. The Sphinx had to be taken out of the match and was replaced with Italian w/ Hot Peppers, who was making its debut in the BoF. IwHP figured in the 2nd goal when its' pass to Pies R. Round bounced off the pieplate and into the net in the 83rd minute, basically sewing up the match.

President Glenn Quagmire has ruled that September 12th will be a civic holiday in Prux, with a full parade for the returning BoF Champions.

The Final goal totals are:
007: 10
The Sphinx: 2
Pies R. Round: 2
Pastrami: 1
Pi R. Squared: 1
Steak and Cheese: 1
