25 - Suicide?-Since when is suicide illegal?

The Ctan

1 - What is the legal drinking age? - There isn't one. However, alcoholism is extremely limited by culture and biology, and the locals tend to preffer drinks that are preffered by adults for reason of taste (notice when you get older, things that used to be really unpleasant taste nice? That.)
2 - Driving age? - 11/21/50 - Depending on Species (I figured I'd answer anyway, even though you might be looking for comparatively normal species and nations, rather than my FT-fantasy monstrosity, but I thought it might be fun to answer anyway. Basically, 21 or the equivalent mental age for other species). Provisional is available younger, and below that, there are auto-drive systems that one can use. Needless to say, there's going to be no fines in an actual emergency.
3 - Age of sexual consent? - Same ages as above.
4 - Voting age?- Same ages as above. Subject to modification in extreme cases due to aberrant development.
5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? - Same ages as above. Subject to modification in extreme cases due to aberrant development.
6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal? - Any and all. Some individuals even have implanted drug glands capable of internally generating them. However, this, again, is used in relative moderation, compared to real societies. This is largley because the preffered drugs are neither psychologically (though that's an aspect of mindset more than anything, and it's conceivable it could be otherwise) or physically addictive. Such glands are used as much for painkillers, as for recreation. A largely unknown feature is the ability that comes with this, to secrete drugs in bodily fluids such as saliva needless to say, the mantra here, again, is 'moderation.' This detail is deliberately made obscure to prevent issues in travelling to other countries.
7 - Can people have guns? (if so - who and what kind?) - All gun ownership is legal. (Shout it with me, RESPONSIBILITY!) Culturally, handgun-equivalents and swords are normally the limit of gun ownership, though those in the hunting community tend to preffer more exotic weapons. There is a strong preference, there, for bows. Yes. Big longbows. And spears. Firearms and more sophisticated or dangerous weapons, are however, restricted to citizens, or those foreigners with (elusive) special permission.
8 - What is the name of your country? - "The Eternal Necrontyr Empire of the C'tan." Other forms include "The C'tan" "The Necrontyr Empire" and informally and occasionally (part of) "Greater Menelmacar" due to the extremely close relations enjoyed with that nation.
9 - Do you have the death penalty? - Yes. After a fashion. It is however, never used.
10 - What what is the speed limit? - This question is somewhat irrelevant. There are however, regulations over vehicle use in urban areas. Detailing how they operate would require me to make them up though, and that would be subject to change as my understanding changes.
11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? - No religions are prohibited.
Which of the following are be legal:
12 - Porn? - Legal and popular.
13 - Prostitution? - Legal and unpopular.
14 - Polygamy? - Legal and semi popular, depending on definition.
15 - Homosexuality? - Legal and popular.
16 - Stem cell resurch? - Legal and unpopular, as this field has been long eclipsed. Genetic engineering is legal, subject to legal oversight and regulation.
17 - Human Cloning? - Legal and semi-popular, depending on definition.
18 - Cock Fighting? - I don't suppose there's a law against it, but it's not come up. Certainly doesn't happen.
19 - Slavery? - What you do within the confines of your bedroom is not the business of the government. More specifically, yes, if you happen to consent to being a 'slave' however, co-ercion by force, threat thereof or mind-altering treatments is of course, a severe form of assault subject to stringent penalty, which prevents slavery by default. Furthermore, all persons are subject to legal protection. Anti-slavery policies are enacted by the government in foriegn areas wherever possible.
20 - Hunting? - Legal and popular. However, practices vary, and it is generally frowned on to do so with firearms.
21 - Fishing - Legal...
22 - Eating Meat - Legal and near-universal.
23 - Littering - Legal and unpopular due to cultural stigma.
24 - Unisex Bathrooms - Legal.
25 - Suicide - Legal and unpopular
26 - Gay Marriage - Legal and popular, of course.
27 - Abortion - Legal and unpopular. RESPONSIBILITY ubiqitises, even internalises, birth control. While as a matter of philosophy, abortion is accepted, within certain limits largely defined on brain development of the foetus, it has never been recorded in living memory.
28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal? - Rape. That's about it.
29 - Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory? - Optional. Significant stigma is attached to nudity in general social situations. However, it is tolerated or encouraged in some areas.
30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". - There are no obscentiy laws.
31 - What system do you have for taxes? - An esoteric business tax system graded towards non-essential products. Similar to VAT, but considerably more sophisticated in its deployment.
- Income tax? (how much?) - None.
- Sales tax? (how much?) - See above. Exact numbers vary.
- Import/Export tax? (how much?) - None.
32 - What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen? - A general knowledge of the social and cultural principles of the nation is the only requirement for citizenship. It is however, quite specific in these details.
33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? - Access is available to all, though most reputable channels of access are subject to background check and declaration of peaceable intention.
34 - What type of government are you? - Pantisocracy/Representative Democracy/Cabinet/Popular Autocracy. Various systems operate concurrently, dependant on the speed of resposne required. International affairs are usually handled at Senate level or above, wheras domestic affairs are generally handled by an obscene number of referenda. One curious, possibly unique, feature is the investment of plenipotentiary power in all citizens of voting age, though this is a legacy from pervious times, when travel times were so extended, that it could be necessary for explorers and others to make treaties, and then radio them back to the rest of the culture for ratification. It has not been enacted in living memory.
35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? - This concept has not been introduced. Essentially nil.
36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example - taking shoes off before entering someone's home. Or not eating with the left hand - There are multitudinous social customs, ranging from body language to philosophy, that are considered integral to being part of the nation.

By taxing and regulating, not only is there a huge taxation revenue stream but organised crime is robbed of one of its biggest cash cows and people aren't afraid to go to a hospital if they OD, or to rehab when they want to quit.

7 - Can people have guns? All automatic weapons are banned, and all other guns must be registered and licenced.

8 - What is the name of your country? Kelssek, without any official titles or other embellishments.

9 - Do you have the death penalty? No.

10 - What is the speed limit? Strictly speaking there isn't one since many stretches of rural highway don't have a speed limit, but in these cases police can still ticket you for "dangerous driving". Within an urban area the general rule is 50km/h unless posted.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? No restrictions of any kind, but religion in public is socially taboo. As you can imagine this does create some problems for immigrants from societies and cultures where religious practice is a major part of life but usually it's given a free pass under the banner of "it's a different culture".

Which of the following are be legal:
12 - Porn? Yes. Don't hate, go masturbate.
13 - Prostitution? Yes and regulated.
14 - Polygamy? One spouse is quite enough.
15 - Homosexuality? Go buttsex go!
16 - Stem cell resurch? Stem them cells!
17 - Human Cloning? Yes, unless genetic engineering is involved.
18 - Cock Fighting? Not specifically, but it could run afoul of animal cruelty laws.
19 - Slavery? You can never take our Freeeeeeedom!!!!!
20 - Hunting? Yes, but regulated.
21 - Fishing? Yes, but regulated.
22 - Eating meat? Eat them animals!
23 - Littering? Most cities will fine you for doing it.
24 - Unisex bathrooms? Yes
25 - Suicide? Yes
26 - Gay marriage? Marry them homos!
27 - Abortion? Kill them fetuses!

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal? Nothing is, assuming consenting adults.
29 - Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory? Optional.
30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". Technically they're still on the books but in practice, since the courts have ruled that obscenity is relative to the prevailing moral standards it would be very difficult to prosecute that.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
- Income tax? (how much?) You will drown in income tax here. Most middle-class people will pay about 35% and the highest bracket pays 45%.
- Sales tax? (how much?) There used to be a federal GST, but it was scrapped recently. Provinces impose their own sales tax.
- Import/Export tax? (how much?) Depends on the goods in question. We only trade with IFTA members (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/IFTA).

32 - What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen?
33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?
http://kelssek.tripod.com/cik/index.html will tell you all about our immigration/citizenship policies. But they're generally very lenient. We need immigrants.

34 - What type of government are you? Currently the Green Party is in power. It's generally been social democratic as far as economics go, and even if they wanted to, going authoritarian isn't an option in this country, where people are downright paranoid about governments taking civil rights away. The country itself can be described as quasi-socialist.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? Almost no ability, and the government is specifically banned from interfering with the KBC (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Kelssek_Broadcasting_Corporation). There are hate speech laws which can lead to people being prosecuted and jailed but they have never been applied to the mass media, mainly because the mass media aren't that stupid.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have?

Well, it really depends on perception since what stands out depends on the cultural background of the observer. But in general it's the normal Anglo-European culture, plus it's a very liberal bunch of people with very little respect for religion, embrace multiculturalism and would happily vote socialists into power, blah blah class solidarity and justice and exploitation and proletariat and all that.

The Constitution protects the core policies of the country's "Social Republic", although the Constitution is open to amendment by Parliament and referendum. Kahanistan
26-08-2007, 01:48
1 - What is the legal drinking age? - None.
2 - Driving age? As soon as the feet can reach the pedals. In practice this often means as young as seven.
3 - Age of sexual consent? 13.
4 - Voting age? 15.
5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? 17.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal? All.
- Pot
- Tobacco
- Cocaine
- Alcohol
- LSD
- Caffeine
- Heroin
- Other?

7 - Can people have guns? (if so - who and what kind?) Yes, any citizen or national can own fully automatic assault rifles with no background check. This often means foreign nationals legally obtain guns and are not deterred by background checks.

8 - What is the name of your country? The Free Republic of Havenic Kahanistan

9 - Do you have the death penalty? No, it is forbidden by the constitution.

10 - What what is the speed limit? On highways, 150 km/h (~90 mph)

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? Freedom of religion is absolute.

Which of the following are be legal: All except cock fighting, littering, and slavery. However, meat is very expensive as the industry is severely regulated to prevent abuse.

12 - Porn?
13 - Prostitution?
14 - Polygamy?
15 - Homosexuality?
16 - Stem cell resurch?
17 - Human Cloning?
18 - Cock Fighting?
19 - Slavery?
20 - Hunting?
21 - Fishing?
22 - Eating meat?
23 - Littering?
24 - Unisex bathrooms?
25 - Suicide?
26 - Gay marriage?
27 - Abortion?

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal? Rape, child molestation (under age 13)
29 - Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory? Optional, but almost universal. Nudism is rare.
30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". No.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
- Income tax? (how much?) Higher for the wealthy, none for those who earn below poverty line.
- Sales tax? (how much?) 7% in general, though food and medicine are untaxed. Recreational drugs are taxed at 75%. This is still significantly lower than the black-market markup of drug prices.
- Import/Export tax? (how much?)

32 - What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen? Demonstrate fluency in one of Kahanistan's official languages (Arabic, English, Hebrew, or Latin) and pass a test in one of those languages detailing the operation and ideology of the government.
33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? Almost everyone is allowed into the country, even citizens of hostile nations as many wish to flee their regimes.

34 - What type of government are you? Representative democracy.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? None. There is one government-owned media outlet that gives the government's line on events, but it is forced to conform to reality by the threat of competing outlets contradicting it and harming its credibility.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example - taking shoes off before entering someone's home. Or not eating with the left hand.

Kahanistanian men almost never hold doors open for women, or open car doors for them; they believe that a woman would never do such for a man and that equality is absolute. Approaching men or women sexually is much easier than in most Western countries; one merely goes to anyone not in a burqa or other ultra-conservative religious symbol and asks to "get together." People are always free to say no, and harassing is severely frowned upon.

It is generally considered unacceptable to insult someone's religion or to pressure people to change their behaviour on the threat of "going to hell." However, growing anti-Catholicism in some sectors has weakened this stricture.

Displays of wealth are frowned upon. Wealthy visitors are advised to behave as average tourists or citizens.

Like in Japan, it is common to exchange cards with personal information. The Japanese rules regarding holding these cards do not apply, but following them will only prompt the comment that one must have visited Japan.
Tanara

Tanar completely agrees with Ctan’s mantra of RESPONSIBILY - and please note that every thing is listed as a Privilege, NOT a Right.

1 - What is the legal drinking age? None but can lose the privilege.

2 - Driving age? Depends on mental age - One can test for a license at age 15 ( human/ species equivalent ) but the younger one is the harder the test is, and the more sternly one is graded and the easier it is to lose the privilege Most planets, save out in the true boonies, have AI assisted auto drive systems, that take in vehicle driving out of 'in vehicle' - and while ‘linking in’ to such a system is not mandatory, vehicular interaction ( read wrecks) when the vehicle is under the control of a in vehicle driver are treated very seriously. Also given that in most all cities, Planetary A‘Port stations are found every couple of blocks, most people prefer to A’Port and walk / A’Port and take the ubiquitous slide walks.

3 - Age of sexual consent? None - except in those cases when the mentality is not present to give informed, knowing consent. That is considered the equivalent of rape and is prosecuted accordingly. Unlicensed pregnancy is a whole ‘nother matter, as is sexual transmission of disease.

4 - Voting age? Depends on species, humans 21 but can lose the privilege. There are certain elections & public polls where it is mandatory to vote and not voting ( except under certain exemptions ) will garner criminal charges, that could cost one ones citizenship..

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? - Depends on species, humans generally 17-19 but can go earlier or later and is possible at any age to end up as a Ward of the Crown.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? - Can I please hear repeat of Ctan’s mantra of RESPONSIBILY-

-Pot - legal and popular

- Tobacco - genetically modified, true low tar and nicotine - legal, moderately popular / ungenetically modified, 'wild' legal, relatively unpopular

- Cocaine - legal and virtually unknown, there are other drugs in the Empire that produce better highs without the side effectsl-

-Alcohol - legal, moderately popular

- LSD - legal, but like cocaine, virtually unknown for the same reasons

- Caffeine - legal popular - except for with in the Elvin population where it is a mostly fatal toxin and is illegal to sell to them

- Heroin - legal and virtually unknown, there are other drugs in the Empire that produce better highs without the side effects

- Other? Many ‘drugs’ unknown on Earth- most legal, how popular varies however a few a highly illegal. ( Generally due to method of acquiring/creating said drug.)

7 - Can people have guns? An armed society is a polite society, and thusly “YES!”, save for those whom have lost the privilege, or those who are not mentally competent

8 - What is the name of your country? The Tanaran Empire, The Interstellar Empire of Tanar, Tanar, Tanara ( the last two informally )

9 - Do you have the death penalty? Yes, and executions are carried out in public.

10 - What is the speed limit? ?

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? All are permitted, all are restricted

Which of the following are be legal: ALL Are Legal

12 – Porn

13 - Prostitution Heavily regulated and taxed, popular in some places unpopular in others.

14 – Polygamy Far more common than monogamy- makes up some 78% of all Union Contracts in the Empire

15 – Homosexuality - legislate ones sexual identity? Say what?

16 - Stem cell research -–The Empire is far past this old, proven technology, not used any longer, save for teaching purposes.

17 - Human Cloning - Regulated, over sighted and clones have full legal rights, not often done.

18 - Cock Fighting? There are no laws against it specifically, but Animal Mistreatment laws are Very harsh.

19 - Slavery? Penal Slavery is legal, debit slavery is legal, but they are closely regulated and over watched by the judiciary.

20 - Hunting? Eat & use as completely as possible what one hunts, no waste! Non kill slap hunting is very popular and is considered a rite of passage into adulthood in some portions of the Empire

21 – Fishing - see above

22 - Eating meat? Carnivores R Us, save for those who are Vegan to one degree or another.

23 - Littering? No laws against but is simply not done.

24 - Unisex bathrooms

25 – Suicide - Very Rare

26 - Gay marriage - ? Any one can join into a Union Contract as long as they are mentally competent. And there are as many different forms of Marriage as there are people. Marriage is the private affair of those getting married.

27 – Abortion - Happens Very, Very Rarely, mostly for medical/ therapeutic reasons. But most medical problems can be dealt with by the Empires highly advanced medical technology.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal Again “?blink?” except for Rape which can carry the Death Penalty

29 - Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory? Very much Optional, it is worn for practical purposes and for ornamentation.

30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". - Again “?Blink?”

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
- Income tax? Citizens pay no income tax, residents pay a flat 15%; resident citizens of another nationality pay 20%

- Sales tax? Thank you C’Tan for putting this so well…An esoteric business tax system graded towards non-essential products. Similar to VAT, but considerably more sophisticated in its deployment.

- Import/Export tax? Varies on the product and where it is going to or coming from.

32 - What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? You must perform Federal Service and, if not native born, pass the Citizenship Exam.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? Any but we reserve the tight to either deport with prejudice, or if found guilty of criminal activity that carried the death penalty execution. The Empire does not extradite those who violate death penalty laws back to their nation of residence/ legal citizenship. Visiting the Empire is a privilege, not a right and we retain the right to refuse entry to any that are deemed a 'hazzard' to the Empire on a case by case basis.

34 - What type of government are you? Modified Imperial Monarchy, with a tri-cameral legislature/ judiciary advisory system. The House of Peers is for those who hold titles of Peerage, the Upper and Lower are popularly elected and the Judiciary shakes it’s hoary head at the antics of the other three.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? When it comes to ‘of interest to the Empire’ the Crown retains the right of absolute censorship.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? Considering that the Empire has counted in it’s census such species ( & an even wider parade of cultures within species ) as :Humans, Therianthopes, Elves, Dragons, Xa’Cz’Inni, Bayonne, Grendels, and other races, the cultural rules are as varied as the stars and as hard to get a grip on.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? No restrictions.

Which of the following are be legal:

Immigration is restricted due to lack of space (http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/8046/testsa51yg5.jpg); generally speaking, almost the only way to immigrate is to marry into a Sanadrianese family. Immigration is easier for Uhuh-Topians than for people of other nationalities: Uhuh-Topians may immigrate if they possess useful skills, on the assessment of Parliament and with the consent of the general population.
33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? See above.

Xirnium

1 - What is the legal drinking age?

Such an odd concept. Xirniumite parents will typically introduce their children to the custom of drinking wine with meals from a fairly early age.

2 - Driving age?

Eighteen, for the purposes of driving alone. The whole point of public transport, however, is so that you don’t have to drive at all.

3 - Age of sexual consent? Sixteen.

4 - Voting age?

Eighteen. Voting is compulsory in Xirnium.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? Eighteen.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal?

Opiates, cocaine and marijuana are legal and highly popular recreational drugs. Tobacco, usually in cigarettes or occasionally as snuff, is alarmingly popular. Most drugs are legal though regulated.

7 - Can people have guns?

There is no right to bear arms in Xirnium. Firearm ownership is regulated and one must usually belong to a registered hunting or sporting club in order to obtain a license to own a firearm. The legal sanctions for unauthorised firearm possession can be considerable. Firearm ownership is rare in Xirnium.

8 - What is the name of your country?

Xirnium. One often also hears reference to the Eternal Republic.

9 - Do you have the death penalty? The death penalty has long been abolished by statute.

10 - What is the speed limit? Varies from sixty kilometres an hour in highly built-up areas to one hundred and thirty kilometres an hour on major motorways.

11 - What types of religions are permitted or restricted?

Ostensibly, Xirnium is a secular nation that holds freedom of religion as an inalienable right. Nonetheless, commentators have at times accused the Xirniumite government of waging a war on religion. Some have alleged the existence of systemic government bias against Abrahamic religions and an indulgent tolerance towards European paganism.

Religious symbols such as Christian crosses, Jewish skullcaps and Muslim headscarves are banned in public places including schools and government buildings. Religious institutions may not operate private schools, and homeschooling is illegal. The Xirniumite government has banned various organisations that it claims are dangerous or involved in criminal activity, such as the Church of Scientology and certain radical fundamentalist Protestant groups.

Which of the following are legal:

12 - Pornography? Legal and a major industry.

13 - Prostitution? Legal and government regulated, a major industry.

14 - Polygamy? Not legally recognised.

15 - Homosexuality? Legal and common.

16 - Stem cell research?

Legal and government funded. The manufacture, use, and destruction of embryos and fetuses for research is legal and government funded.

17 - Human Cloning? Legal and government funded.

18 - Cockfighting? Currently illegal under animal cruelty legislation.

19 - Slavery? Major criminal offence.

20 - Hunting? Legal but regulated by licensing, common amongst the upper classes.

21 - Fishing? Legal but uncommon.

22 - Eating meat? Legal and extremely common, although long-established vegetarian movements exist.

23 - Littering? Illegal and subject to fine.

24 - Unisex bathrooms? Legal and not uncommon.

25 - Suicide? Legal, as is medically assisted euthanasia.

26 - Gay marriage? Legally recognised and popular.

27 - Abortion? Legal at any time during pregnancy and upon demand, a commonly performed procedure.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal? Sexual intercourse without a person’s free and voluntary consent is a major criminal offence.

29 - Is your country’s clothing optional or mandatory? The law does not regulate attire in Xirnium. Nudity is expected in certain social situations, unthinkable in others.

30 - Would you have obscenity laws? Obscenity is in the eye of the beholder, the Xirniumite government doesn’t legislate on morality.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?

Xirnium has a progressive income tax system that most would describe as cripplingly high. Company tax is likewise considerable. The Xirniumite government remains committed to international free trade, however.

32 - What are the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen?

The principal grounds for acquiring citizenship are delineated by the doctrine of jus soli and are generally by birth within the Eternal Republic or by naturalisation. Provisions exist to expedite the process of naturalisation where there is descent from a citizen parent or marriage to a citizen. Naturalisation requirements are complex and often difficult to meet.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?

Immigration and travel laws are complex and too difficult to describe here, although demographic trends would tend to indicate that Western Europeans are favoured as new residents, followed by others from nations of the First World. An ability to assimilate Xirnium’s culture is sought after.

34 - What type of government are you?

Parliamentary democracy. Perhaps its most defining feature is its unwritten constitution and its doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?

The government does not generally restrict or censor media. Even the publicly financed broadcasting corporations of Xirnium, theoretically answerable to Parliament, exercise complete independence in the conduct of their activities and routinely criticise the Government.

36 - Aside from laws, what sort of unofficial cultural rules and traditions do you have?

Far too numerous to describe here. That said, Xirnium’s society is liberal, progressive and permissive. It is also elitist, sophisticated and cultured, with an entrenched aristocracy.

34 - What type of government are you?
A strongly centralized Republic with leanings towards presidential dictatorship.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?
The government owns nearly all the sources of information and routinely leans on the small private media to conform to the party line.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example - taking shoes off before entering someone's home. Or not eating with the left hand.
Iansisle is an intensely racist and sexist country, often described as being mired in a late 19th-century world outlook. Contact with progressive nations such as Larkinia and Tanah Burung led to the Gull Flag Revolution, although revolutionary political attitudes have only slightly changed the social outlook in Iansisle. Women are most often considered little more than homemakers, objects of worship, damsels in distress, or items for sexual conquest and nothing more. Other ethnicities are usually considered shiftless, untrustworthy, or responsible for the current economic woes at home.

Imitora
27-08-2007, 03:18
1 - What is the legal drinking age? 17
2 - Driving age? Difficult to answer. Driver's education in Imitora starts at birth, when most children spend time with their father or mother in the garage. However, it officially starts at the age of 14, but most drivers aren't licsensed till 16. Further, drivers are rated based on skill and restricted to certain conditions untill they can pass the full set of tests. However, by the age of 20, most Imitoran can out drive anyone on the planet. If you don't believe it, just come and race us.
3 - Age of sexual consent? Above 14, no greater than two year difference in age. Above 18, no restrictions
4 - Voting age? 18
5 - At what age would someone become an adult? 18

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal?
- Pot
- Tobacco
- Cocaine
- Alcohol

All of the above. If you wanna fuck yourself up, have at it. Just don't mess up anyone else's life in the process.

7 - Can people have guns? Any one over the age of 15, no restrictions based on qualification tests. While open carry is legal, CC is the norm.

8 - What is the name of your country? The High Republic of Imitora

9 - Do you have the death penalty? We have an express lane. You kill someone, we'll kill you right back.

10 - What what is the speed limit? What's a speed limit? Oh, you mean that draconian idea of safety. There is no limit, but a safe and reasonable speed based on driver skill and age is assumed. And if you think your a bad ass, try to out run our highway cops. You wont.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? As long as you don't start kidnapping people or jumping on couches about banging Katie Holmes (altough I would do that too...), nothing.

Before I answer any question, I will state that the Empire has instituted a "maturity" test to determine if people are mentally capable of handling personal responsibility. People who are mentally capable of handling personal responsibility are considered "licensed adults". Anyone can become a licensed adult, but they must have taken the test by the age of 24. Only licensed adults are considered true citizens, although facilities are open to educate unlicensed adults, to advance their maturity. Of course, people can take the test as many times as possible, although they are only required to pass it once. After that, they are licensed adults, and full citizens. At times, when their conduct is unbecoming of a citizen, the license can be suspended and the person subjected to indoctrination sessions.

The criteria for becoming a licensed adult includes the ability to defend oneself, the ability to make wise and informed judgments, the ability to obey rules and respect authority, the ability to reason justly, and the ability to respect one's life, body, and dignity.

1—What is the legal drinking age?
none
2—Driving age?
citizen must possess a license, otherwise none
3—Age of sexual consent?
none
4—Voting age?
citizen must possess a license, otherwise none

5—At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)?
whenever the citizen passes the test and obtains a license

6—What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal?
all are legal

7—Can people have guns? (if so—who and what kind?)
only licensed adults may carry weapons

8—What is the name of your country?
the Great Han Empire (a.k.a. Daehanjeiguk)

9—Do you have the death penalty?
yes

10—What what is the speed limit?
if you're in an accident, you were going too fast

11—What types of religions would are permitted or restricted?
all are permitted

Which of the following are be legal:
12—Porn? yes
13—Prostitution? yes
14—Polygamy? yes
15—Homosexuality? yes
16—Stem cell research? yes
17—Human Cloning? yes
18—Cock Fighting? yes
19—Slavery? yes
20—Hunting? yes
21—Fishing? yes
22—Eating meat? yes
23—Littering? yes
24—Unisex bathrooms? yes
25—Suicide? yes
26—Gay marriage? yes
27—Abortion? yes

28—What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal?
none
29—Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory?
optional
30—Would you have obscenity laws? If so—how would you define "obscene".
none

31—What system do you have for taxes?
none

32—What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen?
the citizen must have passed the licensing test to become a full citizen; otherwise, we will lock them up in institutes to train them to be functioning adults
33—What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?
any and all

34—What type of government are you?
limited parliamentarian imperial monarchy

35—To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?
The Imperial Government is free to censor anything, but decides not to do so; the same policy applies to anything that should be forbidden but isn't.

36—Aside from laws—what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example—taking shoes off before entering someone's home. Or not eating with the left hand

Everything that should be illegal but is not is shunned; people judge themselves first and decide whether someone is right or wrong; the state simply exists to guarantee basic services and rights to the citizenry (and to decide who are and who are not citizens).

Our society is largely matriarchal, despite females not being permitted to vote, though they may hold office. Both belching and flatulency indicate satiety and contentment. Conversations begin with a gift of food from the one wishing to speak. Invitation to one's home includes protection and tending to the invited's needs. The traditions of hospitality are inviolate.
The Archregimancy
27-08-2007, 04:17
1 - What is the legal drinking age?
Only adult males above the age of 16 live in the Archregimancy, so all citizens are in theory permitted to drink, though several constituent monasteries in the Holy Monastic Republic completely ban the consumption of alcohol (others may only ban alcohol during fast periods, and a few never ban the consumption of alcohol, though its availability may be limited).

2 - Driving age?
While in theory there is no driving age for the same reason there is no drinking age, there are no private vehicles in the Archregimancy. Most monks travel on foot, on horseback, or in a donkey-drawn cart. A small number of communal motorised all-terrain tricycles and ornithopters are available for emergency transport.

3 - Age of sexual consent?
All citizens of the Archregimancy are celibate Orthodox Christian monks.

4 - Voting age?
As with drinking and driving, irrelevant - all citizens have full voting rights within their monastery upon taking monastic orders.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)?
All citizens are considered adults.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal?
- Pot -- no
- Tobacco -- yes
- Cocaine -- no
- Alcohol -- yes; tends to be more popular in the Slavonic monasteries, though by no means unknown in the Hellenic and other monasteries.
- LSD -- no
- Caffeine -- yes
- Heroin -- no
- Other? -- none. Drug use is completely unknown outside of tobacco, alcohol and caffeine

7 - Can people have guns? (if so - who and what kind?)
There are no firearms of any type in the Archregimancy.

8 - What is the name of your country?
The Holy Monastic Republic of the Archregimancy.

9 - Do you have the death penalty?
No. The sixth commandment is strictly followed, and the death penalty is considered un-Christian.

10 - What what is the speed limit?
Irrelevant as there are no personal vehicles

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted?
The sole religion of the Archregimancy is Orthodox Christianity. The Holy Synod of the Archregimancy is an autonomous body within the autocephalous Orthodox Church of the Holy Empire.

Which of the following are be legal:
12 - Porn? -- Illegal
13 - Prostitution? -- Illegal
14 - Polygamy? -- Irrelevant
15 - Homosexuality? -- Illegal
16 - Stem cell research? -- Illegal
17 - Human Cloning? -- Illegal
18 - Cock Fighting? -- Illegal
19 - Slavery? Illegal and heretical
20 - Hunting? -- Legal in times of need within certain tightly constrained boundaries
21 - Fishing? -- Legal
22 - Eating meat? -- Legal, except during official Church fasts
23 - Littering? -- Illegal
24 - Unisex bathrooms? -- Irrelevant
25 - Suicide? -- Illegal
26 - Gay marriage? -- Irrelevant
27 - Abortion? -- Irrelevant

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal?
All of them. All citizens are celibate monks; engaging in any sexual activity may result in expulsion from the Archregimancy.

29 - Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory?
Mandatory.

30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene".
Yes. Anything representing any type of sexual act (including mere physical contact between a man and a woman) or the naked or partially-clothed human form is clearly obscene and therefore banned.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
Irrelevant. All property in the Archregimancy is held communally, and each monastery is in theory self-supporting, though assistance is rendered on request to each monastery according to its needs from other monasteries according their ability. The Archregimancy strongly denounces communism, by the way.

32 - What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen?
All citizens must be male Orthodox monks above the age of 16. Anyone entering the country who meets those criteria, or who takes monastic orders while in the Archregimancy, is automatically granted citizenship.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?
Usually, only Orthodox Christian males are allowed into the country. Exceptions have been made for non-Orthodox and - very occasionally - women during international sporting tournaments, though the latter two groups are strictly quarantined and their movements tightly controlled.

34 - What type of government are you?
A highly decentralised monastic theocratic republic.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?
All media are controlled by either the individual monasteries or the central Holy Synod. Since all citizens are Orthodox monks who share the same general worldview, this usually doesn't result in censorship as other nations understand the concept. That said, intense theological disputes often result in one perspective being accorded formal support over another in media reports.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example - taking shoes off before entering someone's home. Or not eating with the left hand.
Everything in the Archregimancy stems from the nation's status as an Orthodox monastic republic. All customs and traditions (including Holy Tradition) are therefore those of the broader Orthodox Church, though these are often followed and implemented far more strictly than in a secular Orthodox state.

33 - What types of people do you not allow into your country? Those that do not coform to the criteria in #32

34 - What type of government are you? A constitutional monarchy

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? Our media is very free. Conservative Brutland has a review board that reviews the media and screens out those that are indecent only. Journalism is very free in the Kingdom.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? Too many to mention.

31 - What system do you have for taxes? Progressive
- Income tax? (how much?) 72%
- Sales tax? (how much?) None
- Import/Export tax? (how much?) None

32 - What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen? There are no official criteria beyond being allowed to enter the country in the first place, but being a member/sympathizer with a communist party/movement certainly helps
33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? Those with criminal records in other countries, provided Staffsilvania recognises the laws of that country. In the event that the laws of another country would be considered counter-revolutionary an individual who has broken such laws is welcomed.

34 - What type of government are you? Father Knows Best State

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? The government does not interfere in such matters, save setting quotas for local content and representation of ethnic minorities. All media is state owned though so it is not so much censorship as broadcasting the parties version of events.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? People frequently address one another as "comrade"
Candelaria And Marquez

1 - What is the legal drinking age? Most public places where alchohol in ingested have an 18+ policy, otherwise there is no official legal age though the provision of any such substance to under-10s is considered child neglect.
2 - Driving age? 16 for school leavers, otherwise 18. But largely academic in either case, C&M is hardly a pro-car nation.
3 - Age of sexual consent? 15 and three quarters, though only a significant age gap between participants or obviously repeated and risky behaviour from either party would result in a formal investigation by Child Services.
4 - Voting age? 18
5 - At what age would someone become an adult 16

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal?

Tobacco, caffein et al are legal if frowned upon. All more serious substances are highly illegal.

7 - Can people have guns? Except in extraordinary cases, no.

8 - What is the name of your country? The Republic of Candelaria And Marquez

9 - Do you have the death penalty? Yes, but can be considered abolished in practice (last execution 1962).

10 - What what is the speed limit? See 2., and varies massively on the motorways.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? Right to religious freedom guarenteed by constitution etcetera and so forth. New Age religions, particularly those of a highly organised nature, are given short shrift by the media and the membership thereof can often be social suicide for public figures.

Which of the following are be legal:
12 - Porn? Slightly grudgingly, but yes.
13 - Prostitution? Not in itself illegal, but curb crawling and similar activities are very much so.
14 - Polygamy? No.
15 - Homosexuality? Yes.
16 - Stem cell resurch? Yes, but state-controlled.
17 - Human Cloning? No.
18 - Cock Fighting? Yes, as are similar activities, though traditional hunting became officially illegal in 1999, and these such activities are likely to go the same way in time.
19 - Slavery? No...
20 - Hunting? See 18.
21 - Fishing? Legal but far from celebrated.
22 - Eating meat? Legal, though increasingly taboo among the affluent middle classes.
23 - Littering? No.
24 - Unisex bathrooms? Yes, but hardly common.
25 - Suicide? Providing assistance is illegal, attemptd suicide is grounds for sectioning.
26 - Gay marriage? Recently legalised.
27 - Abortion? Legal without explicit reason, but with a low weeks threshold.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal? Oh, the usual. I expect Green Island doesn't allow bumming on a Thursday, or something like that.
29 - Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory? Public nudity is illegal, unless it's for art, or summat.
30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". Not as such. The media exercises a degree of self-cencorship on matters of religion and public decency.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
- Income tax? (how much?) Sits at around 70%, but varies massively between governments.
- Sales tax? (how much?) Notional.
- Import/Export tax? (how much?) Depends entirely on the country(s) in question.

32 - What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen? Legally recognised residency for two years, and those born on Candelariasian soil.
33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?
The current government has dropped the emphasis on the highly skilled, instead encouraging manual workers. Asylum seekers and refugees are generally let in willy-nilly - C&M is hardly a major destination for such folk and there are few quibbles over 'swamping'.
34 - What type of government are you? Liberal Parliamentary Democracy.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? See 30. The government itself has no control.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? Candelariasians generally have few obvious hang-ups of this nature. Although foreigners might consider your average Candelariasian to be a bit 'stiff', as a multicultural country of British and Spanish formation, modern C&M have learnt to do without this sort of pointless nicety.

9 - Do you have the death penalty? no

10 - What what is the speed limit? n/a

30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene".
Yes, there are, and they are encoded in what has been deemed a "particularly amusing" piece of legislation written by a junior representative.
31 - What system do you have for taxes?
As there is no private enterprise, taxation doesn't happen in the same way it would in a capitalist nation. The contributions of a worker to society are evaluated by a vast bureaucracy, and they are rewarded proportionally.
32 - What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen? none: in practice, becoming a citizen means being integrated into the "economy"

When you can see over the wheel

Eighteen unrestricted, Fourteen with someone within a year of your age.

4 - Voting age?
It's not like your vote makes a difference, but as soon as you can fill out a registration form legibly, you can vote.

As soon as they can afford to run their own house.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal?

It's properly known as being employed as a "Waste Management and Storage Technician"

10 - What what is the speed limit?
As fast as your car goes

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted?
If you're Doomie Catholic, you pay no tithe, because Doomingsland is fecking sweet. All other religious organizations pay 10% tax of all income, assets, property. We find the Tithe to be ironically profitable.

Which of the following are be legal:
12 - Porn?
13 - Prostitution?
14 - Polygamy?
15 - Homosexuality?
16 - Stem cell resurch?
17 - Human Cloning?

19 - Slavery?
20 - Hunting?
21 - Fishing?
22 - Eating meat?
23 - Littering?
24 - Unisex bathrooms?

26 - Gay marriage?
27 - Abortion?
Is there an all of the above option?

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal?
If the other person doesn't want it, or is underage. Then we castrate the perpetrator, removing their infectious inferiority from the gene pool in our endless march to a perfect Darwinian society.

29 - Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory?
It's a privilege for some of the lower classes to afford such things.

30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene".
Those determined to be inferior humans are considered obscene. Also, Emo people are usually hazed.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
- Income tax? (how much?) Some
- Sales tax? (how much?) None
- Import/Export tax? (how much?) Crippling for imports, tax breaks for exports.

If you're not of inferior breeding, welcome. If you are, you can still get a job as a "Waste Management and Storage Technician."

34 - What type of government are you?
Pseudo-democratic Corporate Oligarchy. Due to the obscenely high level of pollutants in the nation, the dividing line between the upper and lower classes is determined by whether you're full of lead. A whole new spin on the question "Leaded or Unleaded?"

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?
I don't follow. Why would the state restrict it's primary instrument of propaganda?

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example - taking shoes off before entering someone's home. Or not eating with the left hand

1 - What is the legal drinking age? 18.

2 - Driving age? 18, though the immense price of oil and ridiculously large sums sunk into public transport (coupled with various other incentives) ensure that driving is unusual; frowned upon by politicians, though views in the citizenry vary wildly as you'd expect.

3 - Age of sexual consent? 18 years. Seeing a pattern yet?

4 - Voting age? 18

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? 18. The unification of these various things makes one's 18th year a most momentous event (and of course makes all the admin a bit easier to send out).

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal?
- Pot Yes, though the tax rate is rather high owing to governmental suspicion and scientific indecisiveness over its effects.
- Tobacco Yes, and pretty common - around 30-40% of the population can be considered "smokers" depending on your viewpoint.
- Cocaine Yes, refined and heavily taxed.
- Alcohol Yes, cheaply and in abundance.
- LSD Yes, refined and even more heavily taxed.
- Caffeine Yes
- Heroin Yes, although the tax costs tend to ensure that privately-procurable heroin is both rare and astonishingly expensive (and therefore undercut by criminals).
- Other? Well, I can't think of any offhand.

7 - Can people have guns? (if so - who and what kind?) Yes, but the registration process is stringent and the ease with which one can gain each "grade" of firearms ownership certificate decreases sharply as the weapons' deadliness increases. Thus most anyone can lay hands on a twelve-bore, but fewer than 1% of the populace can access the top tier of permitted armaments (cannon of up to 30mm bore).

8 - What is the name of your country? Believe it or not I haven't thought of one. I did have "The Isles of Retribution" on the cards but then everyone'd confuse TIoR and I.

Querinos is a non-drag society, men are expected to be men who like men. Divorces is frownd upon, but accepted. Taking off shoes before entering a home is a sign of resepct. A trio-marriage must be agreed to by all three parties, same with divorce. Going out for coffee if a defacto date with expections of intercourse. Those who choose/ born hetero must leave Querinos by the age of 13. It is everyone's duty to help keep Querinos' natural beauty. One should not gock at a nudest. Erections are a sign of verility and nothing to be ashamed of at any time. Tatoos are considered works of living art, and should be treated as shuch. Mermaids are sacred mothers of Querinos.

Recreational drug users are held responsible for any actions they may commit while under the influence of those drugs (for example, drinking and driving is not strictly illegal, but if one causes an accident or harms someone, they are then liable for more severe penalties for the offense)

7 - Can people have guns? Many Altanari possess some form of firearm, due to the nation's policy of 1 year of compulsory military service at age 17 (or upon receiving citizenship). 11 - What types of religions are permitted or restricted? Altanar guarantees freedom of religion and bans no religion outright. At present, the only banned religious group is an offshoot of the indigenous religion that took part in a rebellion against the government.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal? None, as long as all parties are of the age of consent and are not being forced to perform the activity.

They must demonstrate knowledge of Altanari laws, customs and cultural values through a series of tests. They must also make acceptable progress towards establishing themselves in a job and residence (the government provides assistance with this). At the end of the probationary status, assuming they have met the requirements, they are given the option of accepting Altanari citizenship, dual citizenship, or declining citizenship and returning to their country of origin. It is not required for someone to attain or accept citizenship to remain in the country, though they must reapply yearly for visas if they do not. Non-citizens also cannot vote or receive most forms of national benefits, which is also an incentive to apply for citizenship.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? Traditional Altanari society follows a set of codes known as the Altanari Way, written by Altanar's first King. The codes encourage people to work together, cooperate with each other, contribute to the greater good, be unselfish, and preserve the harmony of the overall society. Those values are still a major part of the cultural "rules" of Altanar, even with the nation's emergence into the modern world and absorbing of other cultures and values.

The Charr
29-08-2007, 18:50
1 - What is the legal drinking age?

There is no age restriction on drinking, it is up to parents.

2 - Driving age?

Fifteen.

3 - Age of sexual consent?

There is no age restriction on sexual consent.

4 - Voting age?

Fifteen - male Charr must complete a coming of age-type ceremony before receiving full rights, however.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)?

Fifteen - male Charr must complete a coming of age-type ceremony before receiving full rights, however.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal?

The Charrian government leaves such decisions to the honour of the individual.

7 - Can people have guns? (if so - who and what kind?)

It is legal to own any kind of weapon with the exception of explosives or nuclear, biological or chemical weapons.

8 - What is the name of your country?

Colloquially it is referred to as Tyria, but this is a misnomer - Tyria is the name of the geographical landmass, not the country. The country is called the United Clans of the Charr, or the UCC for short.

9 - Do you have the death penalty?

The government will not arbitrarily execute any sentient being - all beings capable of honour must be allowed to defend themselves when their lives are at risk, thus killing a defenceless prisoner would be dishonourable. It is permissible for one Charr to kill another Charr over matters of dishonour, however, but it must be in fair combat. Females, humans and cripples are off-limits, however, as they are not considered to be capable of defending themselves from a Charrian warrior.

10 - What what is the speed limit?

There is no national speed limit, however some areas - particularly outside of schools and hospitals, or in narrow hamlets - do have enforceable 'guidelines' (i.e. you can speed, but if you have an accident whilst speeding you can be jailed).

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted?

All Charr must follow Charrian Fire Worship - they do not have to believe, just follow its honour guidelines. Humans are not placed under any restrictions regarding religion, however they are bound to the Sacred Scrolls of Law, which do draw from the beliefs and traditions of the Charrian religion quite heavily.

12 - Porn?

Legal, but non-existent.

13 - Prostitution?

Illegal for Charr only. Charrian females are considered to be defenceless under Charrian law, and as such are protected by males. And because Charrian females cannot own currency, it would make little sense for a male to engage in prostitution (as well as being highly humiliating and dishonourable). Because the Sacred Scrolls of Law do not make any gender distinctions when it comes to dealing with humans, humans are not prohibited from engaging in prostitution.

14 - Polygamy?

Charrian males can have multiple mates, but females cannot. Humans are placed under no restrictions.

15 - Homosexuality?

The Sacred Scrolls of Law make no mention of homosexuality whatsoever - it is a largely alien concept to the Charr. Whether or not the human population of Tyria engages in homosexual behaviour is undocumented, and unimportant.

16 - Stem cell research?

The Sacred Scrolls of Law place no restrictions on this.

17 - Human Cloning?

The Sacred Scrolls of Law place no restrictions on this.

18 - Cock Fighting?

Although there is no mention of this specifically, any non-carnivorous animals are considered 'defenceless' and must be protected by the Charr, and as such it is only permitted to hunt them for food. Although there is no such restriction placed upon carnivorous animals, as animals in general are not capable of accumulating honour according to Charrian beliefs, it would be a somewhat irrelevant gesture so far as they were concerned.

19 - Slavery?

Charrian law deems it illegal to claim ownership over any sentient being capable of experiencing honour - which includes Charr and humans.

20 - Hunting?

Hunting is not only legal, but encouraged and is an integral part of the Charrian way of life, with packs typically reuniting for weekly hunts. However, it is required that one eat whatever one hunts.

21 - Fishing?

As above.

22 - Eating meat?

Only the meat of traditionally herbivorous animals can be consumed.

23 - Littering?

Illegal, with surprisingly severe punishments up to and including variable length jail sentences.

24 - Unisex bathrooms?

While there is no law against such a thing, there is no recorded instance of one existing in Tyria.

25 - Suicide?

Suicide itself is illegal, but assisted suicide is not.

26 - Gay marriage?

As mentioned above, homosexuality is an alien concept to the Charr, and as such there are no laws regarding it.

27 - Abortion?

Highly, highly illegal. Pups below the age of ascension (15) are considered 'defenceless', though in modern times special dispensation from the Society of Flamekeepers may be sought should it be determined that the infant is severely deformed and/or ill. Anybody found to have deliberately killed a pup - before or after birth - without this dispensation is almost guaranteed to receive a life sentence in a particularly inhospitable Charrian prison; and when Charr say 'life sentence' they generally mean for the rest of one's life, without parole. To make matters worse, upon death the prisoner's body will simply be buried - as Charr believe that the body must be burned in order to release the spirit, being buried instead is essentially the afterlife version of being buried alive.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal?

None.

29 - Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory?

Optional. Indeed, it is a popular pastime for Charrian families to strip off and leave behind all artificial objects whilst they vacation in the forests and jungles of Tyria.

30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene".

There are no specific 'obscenity' laws in Tyria, with Charrian law instead focusing more on acts of dishonour as dictated by their spirituality.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
- Income tax? (how much?) - at present, the UCC has a 10% flat rate income tax level, though nomadic packs are typically exempt.
- Sales tax? (how much?) - the UCC only has tax on products which they deem to be harmful to the environment, such as petroleum, non-recyclable plastics, coal, etc. All other domestic products are tax-free in an effort to continue the growth of the economy.
- Import/Export tax? (how much?) - varies depending on what customs agreements, if any, exist between the two countries.

32 - What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen?

Humans must be born in the UCC to qualify for citizenship, and there is no other way for a human to become a UCC citizen. Charr, on the other hand, are granted automatic citizenship regardless of where they are born.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?

See #32.

34 - What type of government are you?

The United Clans of the Charr does not conform to a typical government system, though it could mostly closely be compared to a tight confederation. The national government consists of eight Clan Leaders, who represent the eight major clans of Tyria. Each clan has a great deal of autonomy in local matters, and even controls their own portion of the armed forces. For national issues, however, they act as a single, unified entity.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?

It isn't.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example - taking shoes off before entering someone's home. Or not eating with the left hand

Although to outsiders Charr are appear to be a violent and confrontational species, they actually use violence sparingly and have a complex system of honour and traditions. While fights are common, they are usually friendly in nature and rarely result in injury - it is a test of strength and courage more than anything. Losing a friendly challenge is not dishonourable, and though it is also not dishonourable to refuse to accept such a challenge, it can be a great insult. If one commits a great dishonour against a Charr, one can expect to be challenged to an honour battle - physical combat, which if severe enough can even end in death. Refusing such a challenge is a sign of cowardice, is illegal, and can often leave one dishonoured for life - though, Charr are under no obligation to accept a challenge from a non-Charr. The government actually encourages Charr to issue honour challenges to people who they find committing acts of dishonour, as a form of vigilantism.

Family is also very important to Charr, and multiple generations frequently live together. When moving away from one's pack, it is considered a cultural requirement to return home at least once a week to engage in the weekly ritual hunt.

Charr are extremely protective of nature and feel a need to remain connected to it, to the point where even their major cities have large areas deliberately unpaved, so that Charr can remain 'connected to the earth'. An ideal Charrian vacation is to live outside, without artificial objects of any kind, just to remain a part of the natural world.

For religious reasons, Charr must remain nearby an open flame at all times. Normally in a household simply using flaming torches for illumination is sufficient, but in areas where this is impractical most rely on a small firestone effigy of the gods. Should all of the flames in the vicinity go out, it is considered to be a very bad sign and many particularly religious Charr can become quite agitated until they are re-lit.

There are many guidelines to follow when dealing with a Charr, but nothing concrete. Though Charr often look down on other species (literally and figuratively), especially humans, one can fully redeem oneself in their eyes simply by standing up to them. This does not extend to the point of issuing a challenge, which most non-Charr probably wouldn't survive anyway, but simply remaining confident, asserting one's honour and appealing to their sense of humour, which many Charr have in surprising abundance. By simply standing up to them in this manner, and not allowing oneself to become intimidated by their size and outwardly hostile nature, one demonstrates one's courage and earns their respect. It is customary for Charr to act in a hostile manner on first meeting somebody regardless of their species, as it allows them to gauge their confidence, strength of spirit and sense of honour early on.

When a Charr becomes more jovial, frequently establishing somewhat rough but non-hostile physical contact, it is generally a sign that one has earned their respect.

Charr mostly do not issue friendly physical challenges to other species as they do not believe it would be a fair fight, though if they do it is advised to accept it to avoid causing insult - most Charr will typically 'go easy' on their opponent until they determine their strength and skill, and will not use their claws, spikes or horns in a friendly challenge.

Women should be cautious when dealing with Charr. Charr females are thought of as inferior, and biologically speaking they actually are (Charr females have significantly reduced intelligence and strength, with only a few known exceptions in history). Though Charr recognise that human females do not share this trait, they still have significant difficulty in adjusting to this - women must show themselves to be especially courageous and confident, more so than men, before a Charr can even begin to accept them. However, once earning their respect, one can expect the same treatment as any man - with only a few reservations. It should be noted that a woman challenging a Charr will receive a cold shoulder, as Charr will not fight a female unless their life depended on it.

Lastly, avoid littering in front of a Charr. Given their strong connection to the natural world they have particular disdain for pollution and littering, and can be angered by doing so blatantly in front of them.

Gun owners are input into a national database and each gun or ammunition purchase they make is added into that database. Ammunition is tracked, with each and evey piece of civillian-grade Atrurian ammunition having an individual tracking code, also put into the database, so that in a shooting-related crime, authorities know who the ammunition belongs to within minutes.

The Children of Shalen
29-08-2007, 21:16
1 - What is the legal drinking age?
Don't have one. We haven't yet discovered that alcohol causes liver disease.

2 - Driving age?
Don't have one. As a subterrian species, we don't have much place for vehicles.

3 - Age of sexual consent?
Parental discretion. The average is about fifteen or sixteen, but with approval from both parents, it could be even younger. And if it sounds like I'm talking about marriage. The two are interchangable.

4 - Voting age?
We have outlawed elections (apparently...)

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)?
Marriage or age eighteen. Whichever comes first.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal?
- Pot
- Alcohol
- Caffeine
- Other
Most natural (non-synthesized) substances are frowned on, but tolerated as having come from the ground. Marijuana is used mostly for religious purposes. Caffeine is a fairly common stimulant. Opiates are highly rare, but not unheard of.

It should be noted that the Shalen'Dari are not human, and do not react to all drugs in a human manner. Such as plain tobacco, which is a lethal poison.

7 - Can people have guns? (if so - who and what kind?)
They could if we had guns. Our religon centers around appeasing a Death God, and children are taught creative murder alongside math and spelling. For the most part, weapons consist of knives, bows, swords, and the like. I'm sure guns of all kinds are only a short step away.

8 - What is the name of your country?
Loosely translated: "The Worm Tunnels"

9 - Do you have the death penalty?
Yes, we do. Criminals who's crimes were severe enough to warrant it are sacrificed to the dead god.

10 - What what is the speed limit?
Walking pace.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted?
There's the religon of Donga, of course. Other religons are tolerated in that superior, "Oh, what a cute idea" kind of way as long as you're not Shalen'Dari. If you are and you want to be a different religon, you're perfectly welcome to leave in unofficial disgrace.

Which of the following are be legal:
12 - Porn
Yes
13 - Prostitution
Yes
14 - Polygamy
Yes
15 - Homosexuality
Yes
16 - Stem cell research
Yes (somehow, despite the fact that it shouldn't really exist yet.)
17 - Human Cloning
Yes (I mean, seriously. We're practically iron age. I'm not sure how we have cloning, but apparently, we do.)
18 - Cock Fighting?
No. It's an insult to the Mother Goddess.
19 - Slavery
No. See above.
20 - Hunting
Yes, but only when certain rituals are performed.
21 - Fishing
Yes, see above.
22 - Eating meat
Yes, but only when it can be certain that the rituals were performed.
23 - Littering
No, and it carries a pretty hefty fine.
24 - Unisex bathrooms
Yes.
25 - Suicide
Is considered a perfectly honorable death, especially if you go to the temple and allow yourself to be sacrificed.
26 - Gay marriage
Yes.
27 - Abortion
Yes.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal?
None. What people do in their own homes is their business.

29 - Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory?
Optional. In fact, the Shalen'Dari usually go naked, and clothes are worn only as accessories. They have roughly the same anatomy as a lizard; there's not much to hide.

30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene".
Blasphemy against the gods is covered under the obscenity law. Certain words are also considered obscene, though not the same ones as humans. The part about the words is not widely enforced, however. Even our version of the police force will often turn a deaf ear.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
We mostly operate on trade, though obsidian is considered our national currency. Consequently, the population generally pays taxes in the form of goods, and occasionally services. (According to the bio, our tax rate is 48%.)

32 - What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen?
It is not required that you believe in in our gods (though you may cross paths with Donga, who is a giant earthworm) or subscribe to our religon. However, you must respect our religon, and not assume it's code for legal murder of people who pissed you off. Disrespect will just get you tossed out on your ear. Random murder will land you the death penalty.

Other than that, it's mostly just paperwork. There's a test to ensure that you've studied our county, so you know what you're getting yourself into. You have to have a rudimentary knowledge of the Shalen'Dari language (Nynga). You have to have a means to support yourself; failing that, you have one month to prove that you're willing to be a productive member of society, and one grace month to actually be productive before we kick you out again.

And you have to be about four feet tall. Our tunnels can be a little cramped and uncomfortable if you're much taller than that. But that's more common sense than an actual rule.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?
The nature of our tunnels keeps most people out. But for the most part, we'll let anyone in who meets the above criteria, including criminals to a certain extent. We know we're considered less than savory in most social circles, and so believe in second chances. But if you're just coming here to hide from your own law and have no intention of becoming a polite member of society, we're quick to throw you back out.

34 - What type of government are you?
Liberal, but highly religious.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?
Satire is ostensibly highly valued, even if the official being satired is less than pleased. Blatant disrespect, however, is punishable by a fine. As could be expected, most instances of satire are often considered blatant disrespect, resulting in weeks- or months long debates.

Religious propaganda (other than the state religon) is a fine, then banishment.

Publication of classified materials ranges from a fine to death, depending on the nature of the material and previous offenses.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have?
Most Shalen'Dari pray upon waking and before sleeping (mostly that Donga won't tunnel through their house while they're otherwise occupied).

When entering another's home, it is considered polite to disarm yourself.

When entering the home of the woman you wish to court, it is polite to offer her father your knife and stand still while he holds it to your throat. This is an old tradition based upon the show of trust and good faith. And nerves; any Shalen'Dari who fears death is not considered fit to reproduce, and would be executed on the spot in the old days. (Additionally, though the wording of this tradition stems from an older time, it has been taken up by woman who court men and same-sex couples.)

Goobergunchia
30-08-2007, 02:34
1 - What is the legal drinking age? One must possess a driver's license to purchase, but there are no age restrictions on consumption.
2 - Driving age? 16
3 - Age of sexual consent? 16
4 - Voting age? 16
5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? 16

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are be legal?
- Pot is Legal (Class B)
- Tobacco is Legal, but heavily taxed (Class B)
- Cocaine is Illegal (Class C)
- Alcohol is Legal (Class B)
- LSD is Illegal (Class C)
- Caffeine is Legal (Class A)
- Heroin is Illegal (Class C)

7 - Can people have guns? (if so - who and what kind?)

The recently enacted Firearms Liberalization Act is so difficult to navigate that most Goobergunchian citizens are wondering this same question. Nerf guns and water pistols are fine, but anything that can actually be lethal are under fairly tight restrictions. And ammunition purchases are just unpleasant.

8 - What is the name of your country?

The Liberal Unitary of Goobergunchia.

9 - Do you have the death penalty?

No.

10 - What is the speed limit?

It obviously varies by municipality, but speed guidelines of 40 KPH on local roads, 75 KPH on main roads, and 110 KPH on highways are common. While it is not illegal to go faster than the speed guideline, the penalty for causing an accident when speeding is increased.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted?

The Charter of Rights protects the right to practice any (or no) religion so long as the practices of such a religion do not infringe on the rights of others.

Which of the following are be legal:
12 - Porn? Yes.
13 - Prostitution? Yes, but heavily regulated.
14 - Polygamy? It's not strictly legal, but there are loopholes that could be exploited to permit polygamy. However, it is very frowned upon.
15 - Homosexuality? Yes.
16 - Stem cell research? Actively practiced.
17 - Human Cloning? It's a Class D prohibited activity. In theory, you could get special approval for it, but that's not going to happen.
18 - Cock Fighting? Not under our animal cruelty laws.
19 - Slavery? No, violation of the Charter of Rights.
20 - Hunting? Yes, but incredibly restricted.
21 - Fishing? Yes, but moderately restricted.
22 - Eating meat? Yes.
23 - Littering? Frowned upon, but nobody's going to arrest somebody for littering unless it's really major.
24 - Unisex bathrooms? Yes.
25 - Suicide? Yes.
26 - Gay marriage? Yes.
27 - Abortion? Yes.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal?

Anything non-consensual.

29 - Is your countries clothing optional or mandatory?

There's nothing in the law strictly requiring clothes, but going out naked is not recommended.

30 - Would you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene".

There are local laws against public obscenity (which vary in their scope by the community), but what you do in your own home is your business.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
- Income tax? (how much?) Progressive income tax.
- Sales tax? (how much?) Varies by item. Class B items tend to have unpleasantly high levies on them.
- Import/Export tax? (how much?) It's generally fairly low, but taxes are frequently raised against nations that we don't like.

32 - What is the criteria for someone to pass to become a citizen?

Permanent residence for four years and the passage of a fairly rigorous competence test. There are a few other restrictions that get imposed if you're from countries that we don't get along with very well.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?

General tourism and diplomatic business is permitted, although we stay up-to-date on worldwide security bulletins. Restrictions imposed on specific parts of the world are, of course, extant.

34 - What type of government are you?

We've got a fairly strong central government consisting of an elected legislature (the High Council comes from a national party-list vote, while the Low Council comprises delegates from different regions of Goobergunchia), an elected President (a somewhat limited role, as the First Minister and Cabinet are selected by the High Council, but one with a great deal of power should they wish to use it), and a judiciary selected by the President with the approval of the Gunchenjuris (the High Court). Local governments, however, have been gaining strength in Goobergunchian politics recently.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?

There is some regulation of broadcast content (specifically, a requirement that the public good be served by the allocation of certain wavelengths to private groups), but other than that censorship is not practiced.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have?

I've mentioned a lot above, but a lot of it comes down to the traditional Rule 1 of Goobergunchian society, "Don't be a jackass". There's also a fairly strong anti-military and generally relaxed streak in much of Goobergunchia, although less so in recent years. The exception to this is showers, as it's a very strong custom to take a daily shower.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example - taking shoes off before entering someone's home. Or not eating with the left hand:

Most people still embrace the old ways of living (Sort of like Amish but not) by having lantern and candel light and farming by hand. Few machinery exits though there still is some.

In Kurona Dating is usually free of parental rule. Anyone may date whether the parents like it or not (Though most observe ground rules based on religion, family rules etc) some may be arranged but this is a pretty rare occurrence along with arranged marriage. Usually on most dates, the girls and boys will dress up in their best, (even if it's not a formal date) Many girls will work to buy a new dress to impress the boy they like. Boys will either wear: A white shirt, slacks (w/or w/o Suspenders) or a suite. (a tux is usually on a very formal occasion) while girls will wear a long dress, but some wear the nicest Kimono they have. (some even go Victorian style). If it's raining, the boy is usually pressed to hold the umbrella for the lady, or give her a coat. (though many girls will assert themselves) if it's stormy they will likely stay in one or the other's home. A steady dating couple even best friends can sleep together and not have such a taboo put on it, unless it was a sexual act. It's custom for the boy to bring the girl some sort of gift (flowers, candy etc) though Going Dutch has become a recent trend.

Some common habits seen in the dating place have cropped up in recent years:

A boy may comfort a girl who is frightened (especially if it's stormy)
a dating couple may go out to sea together.
Star Gazing is a great activity.
4/10 High School couples neighbors etc. end up married
Taking your date to a church service regardless of denomination has also become something of a trend
Camping: this is particularly where the taboo free pre-marriage sleeping comes in.

Just a tidbit of Kurona's dating. These are more commonly found among teenagers and young adults more so than older adults. Older Adults are more likely to do a very simple and very casual date. Some times just "hanging out" is the simple form of dating.

You are expected to bow to the princess at all times.

seems like you have one of two things going on in your country.
1) you have lots of angry mobs lynching people left and right
2)you have a secret lynching organization controlled by the government.

Well, it works like this.

The working class, which makes up 90% of my population, are totally politically unaware. They are uneducated etc; the typical oppressed proletarian. The other 10% are the intelligentsia, and then you have the aristocrats. The law is written by aristocrats and backed by the intelligentsia and the workers have no say at all in how the law is written. Though most of them have no clue how the law is written, they tend to disagree with it in most places (given the people who write it are alcoholic libertarian pederasts with palaces and private armies), so they just enforce their own vigilante law; not that anyone in the city violates it anyway because there is a gigantic social collective amongst the workers.

Its more of a "If you do this you'll get lynched" rather than "people do this and get lynched." thing. Basically, the law wouldn't mind if some transgendered prole suddenly walked around naked in the street with a harem of infants, but he would probably be beaten to death and his body chucked in the canal. Suffice to say, while the authorities aren't bothered, the people certainly are, and end up taking the law into their own hands.

Questers has been accused by multiple governments of human rights violations.

Women are expected to be servile to men, to quote a Chinese metaphor "Woman under a mans roof." Women are also expected to dress "properly" and , hypocritically, to be sexually loyal and not promiscous while social and cultural norms do not apply sexual boundaries to men (with the exception of homosexuality which is heavily frowned upon.)
