EDIT SEPTEMBER FIRST: THE DRAW RPED HERE IS CORRECT.
For scheduling purposes, Sativaville will be considered a "first seed".

"Greetings to the world! Live from the Worm Hole in Spenson, I bring you the group draw.

Pieces of paper corresponding to the top six teams participating in this tournament have been placed in this upside-down Mustangs hat: the next six are in the Red-Tails cap, and our twelve debutants are in the rally cap. So let me just get...er...hold on one moment..."

<moments' worth of scuffling around for the Kura-Pelland, Lovisa, Ambrose-Douglas, and Elves Security forces later>

"...now we can get on with the draw. So, from the first pool, in group 1...Qazox! The first hosts.

They'll be followed by....um...what's Milchama doing in the second pool? Hold on...Lovisa!"

<cheers>

"Wait, Lovisa sent a delegation out here? That's impressive...Ah. I think we've identified the source of the cheering: yes, it's fans of other first seeds pleased to have avoided them, for boredom if not quality. Can't say I blame them, but then again, I am bound by objectivity...or try to be.

Next: Quakmybush joins group 1.

And to fill out the group, we'll have three teams drawn randomly from this rally cap...Wait...Oh yeah, the seedings...Can't we just do them by signup time? Oh yeah..."

<long sustained stretch of static, interrupted by "how many teams are in this tournament anyhow!" and suchlike>

"Aha...I think I see our problem. Well, let me just reset the groups and wait for the Qazox commissioner to sort it out...now we need another third seed. And by virtue of being the first new entrant to sign up, Corneliu gets the nod...

Right, from the top. And as we might have to do it again anyway, I don't know why I'm bothering, but it would be too arrogant to assume...Anyhow, the first seed in group 1.1 is...Qazox. Again.

Joined by...Lovisa. Again.

And...Liverpool England!

From the "fourth seed" pot, we get: Linus and Lucy. What kind of a team they'll-oh, that's the name of the country.

Fifth seeds: Sativaville...ai-yai-yai.

And lastly: Integrite. Don't worry folks, we'll do that listing-of-groups-without-my-prattling-accompaniment at the end. On to group 2.

Firstly: the Elves Security Forces.

Secondly: Ambrose-Douglas! Our underdog semifinalists last cup, with the greatest mascot in the game."

<responses from the Qazox and Taeshan delegations>

"The third seed is: Yafor 2.

The fourth: Uiri.

The fifth: Miamora.

And the sixth, Vanek Drury Brieres.

Halfway home, unless we do this again. First seed in group 3: the unquestioned powerhouse, Az-cz.

Who'll be taking on: Kura-Pelland.

And: Quakmybush, there you guys are again.

Trumanistan, The Crescent Republic, and Taeshan round out this one.

Unsurprisingly, Milchama, Cookesland, Corneliu, Jeffersopa, Grotewohl, and Rivenstone will constitute group 4.

And regardless of how we wind up organizing groups, all teams are invited and encouraged to post rosters. You can do so in this thread...whatever that is...by giving a list of your players. You may also post a style modifier between -2 and +2 representing your team's strength and weaknesses: defensive teams score and allow fewer runs, offensive teams score and allow more. +2 is the most extreme offensive-wait, that didn't come out right. You get the point.

Similarly, you can give information about your home stadium: we'd especially like to know whether it's a hitters' park, pitchers' park, or neutral.

Information about a schedule can be available here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12988856&postcount=78). And Az-cz has that 25-team deal we can rip off if it comes to that.

Best of luck to all teams! Even Az-cz, I guess."

Twice beaten finalists look to fail again

Milchama is the unquestioned in international baseball. Unfortunately it looks like this disgrace won't be changed anytime soon. After last cup's miserable failure in the finals Manager Jack Yosefon was replaced by Kelly Hegaboom who will hopefully bring out a more successful team. And with Hegaboom comes a newer, younger and slightly faster team.

Style 0. Pitcher's Park.

Outfielders:
5 Kevin Jollins CF
7 Kory Marritt RF
4 Mylie Jacobs
21 Felix Sorano LF
8 Kelton Holland
9 Mariano Lolton

Infielders:
1 Ryan Thimes 2B
3 Martin Lofo
6 Eric Marfelo SS
10 Daan Holem 1B
14 Garrett Raritt 3B
16 Emily O'Neil DH

Catchers:
17 Maverick Ochoa C
12 Jessie Tool

Pitching

Starters:
27 Ken Helms- Fireballer whose array of 4 different fastballs has made him a legend in New Babylon for leading the Pirates to a league title.
31 Daveed Orwelt- A tricky curveballer who is a controversial choice for second starter because of his streakiness. A recent hotstreak has given people hope but...
18 Boo Terrell- Overall decent pitcher who just gets people out.
20 Gary Holms- Outthinks hitters to beat them despite mediocre to poor stuff. Led Milchama in ERA the last two years.

Relievers:
19 Satchel George- Nasty pitcher. Has just about every pitch under the sun, is also a spot starter.
25 Ole' Gomez- Where he got the nickname nobody knows but he's good.
82 Barry Ovaly- Weird man and pitches that way also.
23 Terry Collins- Two pitch pitcher but really really good with those pitches.
13 Oleg Channuck- Nasty screwball and knuckleball. Weird pitch selection.

Batting order:
1 Ryan Thimes 2B- Short, speedy, good contact hitter.
2 Kevin Jollins CF- Normally a leadoff man but just not as fast as Thimes. Does the same things though.
3 Kory Marritt RF- A 5 tool player who hits towering homers and actually reached his potential.
4 Felix Sorano LF- Another power man with speed. A terrible fielder but 40-40 potential makes up for it.
5 Daan Holem 1B- Pure power hitter with a sweet lefty stroke.
6 Garrett Rarritt 3B- A little power and a little speed. Just a great gloveman.
7 Eric Marfelo SS- Another great glove man with a lack luster stick. Has improved his hitting greatly though.
8 <Insert Pitcher Here>- Hegaboom used this to great effect in the MBL and now brings the pitcher hitting 8th to the international level.
9 Maverick Ochoa C- Actually a pretty good hitting catcher. Gets put back here based on reputation of catchers in Milchama in general.

Notes:
-NO DH in Milchama and with DH O' Neil bats 6th with everybody subsequently moving back one spot in the order.
-Bullpen goes top down with George as the closer.
-As there are only 23 players if you want to make up 2 you can. The 4 man rotation is staying though.
- Milchamian pitchers consider it a disgrace to get taken out before the 8th inning.

Commish Gordon: Tell them it will be available tommorrow. I still got to check out one more player.

Zwangzug's roster for the third edition of this tournament is exactly the same as that for the first two. Hmm...time dilation is a tricky business.

Its style modifier is a -1, and it plays in a neutral park. It will be moved to first seed and lose home field advantage during the qualifiers. Qazox and Zwangzug will stay in the same group, presumably punishing each other equally for their mutual stupidity.

Hegaboom criticized for "terrible" roster

In a wave of criticism unusual in Milchama Kelly Hegaboom has been heavily criticized by fans and commentators after revealing his roster for the third WBC yesterday. Most commentators criticized the lack of power in the line up and surprise exclusion of several important key players in the MBL including Kendry Davenport, Marcos Flinch, and Tomm Egamarano.

The exclusion of Davenport has been most troubling for the Warriors considering his .350 average and 28 homers for second place Chi seemed enough to get him in the squad but an apparently personal falling out with Hegaboom has gotten him off the team. This criticizing of Hegaboom goes beyond the usual little things but people constructing alternate, better lineups and pitching staffs which they believe will do better than the current Milchama set up. There have been calls to fire Hegaboom before he even manages a competitive game but those calls have been rejected saying, "He'll probably mess this up so we'll fire him before next cup."

The pitchers have been another point of contention with fans clamoring for the inclusion of Philip Foster to the squad as well as Chad Fernayo and Scott Mayer.

This whole thing is especially puzzling because they are 2 empty spaces in the squad where one of these players could be used but Hegaboom is sticking to his lineup saying, "We're still better than everybody else anyway." Truer words might not have been spoken in a very long time.

Now to prove it by beating Az-Cz.

Pheonix look to advance to next level

Newly renamed, the Pheonix look to advance in the 3rd World baseball Classic further than they have before. Lead by strong pitching and good defense, the Pheonix are among the favorites, but the big story will be: Can this team hit?

All of the players from the first two WBC's are gone, and in their stead is a strong young pitching staff and fast sure-handed defenders, but without any of the players seemingly a power hitter, will Qazox' new "small-ball" philosophy lead them to a title? Only time and the games themselves will tell.

Here's the new squad of 25 men that are eager to find out:

OOC: I don't know where you get the idea, Qazox, of sticking a first seed into a group that already has another first seed. It's blatantly unfair on the other teams in the group. Even if the majority of them don't RP, I do, and I was actually looking forward to my team doing well this cup until you fucking decided to stick Zwangzug in for Sativaville. I'd much rather a re-draw be done, or I'll have to consider withdrawing - this is not the right way to do it and punishes the group unfairly. So seriously, think about it.

OOC: Schedule here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12988856&postcount=78) minus one day, barring the event of a redraw/scandal/flood of uncontrollable chaos.

I'm really not sure what to do.

"And it's time for the hourly radio identification thingie. The time is now 9:00 AM. We now would return you to your irregularly scheduled baseball coverage were it not for the probability that it's about to become even less regular and the fact that the team doesn't want to be charged with making an effort on top of everything else. Because that only generates all sorts of controversy. So instead we'll have some pundits telling you exactly how the new ban on capitalism is going to send the nation even farther down the drain. Welcome back to the Anti-Government Hour."

Az-cz Roster

After winning two consecutive titles most of the stars from the last two cups weren't interested in a third run, so there is serious turnover from last time. The team is counting on strong pitching as only one of the starting position players from last cup is returning. Although they will give their all in trying to win a third straight cup all the turnover means this will be Az-cz's biggest challenge yet.

Gnomes humbled early, look in trouble for qualification

After winning two consecutive world baseball classics the Gnomes lost almost their entire starting lineup and starting rotation from the last time around. Coupled with the strange decision of the hosts from Zwangzug to deny home games to the top ranked teams and the path to threepeat looked tough for the Gnomes. And Taeshan showed them just how tough it would be.

Last time they won every game they played and this time they lost their opening game to a team with no previous experience 5-0. The pitching was ok, as Li-Van went 6 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs. But the batting was just atrocious. The previous two cups with Ich-Ro and Ray Durham at the top of the order we could expect them to put a lot of pressure on opposing teams, but this time around things went poorly. With Kz-Mts and Lf-Tn at the top of the order the Pink & Green got no hits or walks in 8 at bats from the two. Kz-Mts even hit into an inning ending double play with the bases loaded in the 6th that killed the Gnomes best chance at putting some runs on the board.

Considering that the Gnomes need to finish in the top two of the group they probably have to win all the rest of their games to qualify. Perhaps they could move on with another loss, although that's unlikely. Without any games in front of the home fans, things seem not good for the Gnomes.

With the Gnomes looking to be in trouble the classic looks wide open at this point. Milchama, Qazox, Ambrose Douglas and the hosts Zwangzug all won easily in their opening games. Kura-Pelland and Liverpool England look like threats from the outside as well. Throw in Taeshan and that group ought to provide the eventual champion, unless we get are act in order. My early money rides on Qazox to finally live up to their potential and bring home a baseball championship.

Yaforite Firebugs Roster

Style modifier is a totally Yaforite -2 - if there is such a thing as a karelan baseball team, the Grand Democratic Duchy is that. Good, strong pitching and terrific defense give the Yaforites their victories (if they can get any!), but their lackluster hitting can lose them matches (which is why they tend to try and play small-ball). Upcoming is the twenty-five man roster:

[Yaforites play at home without a DH, in as pitcher's a park as there can be. When there is a DH, Jarifar is inserted into the fourth place in the batting line-up].

[Position] [Name] [Bats/Throws] [Description]

3B - Caris Juir (S/R). Juir is a good defensive player (he gets dirty often and a lot, and has a strong arm). He has the attributes that one looks for in a lead-off hitter; speed, a high on-base percentage, and the drive to, ever day, in and out, give 110%. If he tries to steal too often, it may be because he can get on base so much, and does so, often by bunting.

SS - Arrin Jarridan (S/R). Jarridan is the best player on the Yaforite team. Not only is he a perennial award-winner for his defense (he is quick and has a thunderous arm, especially from the whole), but he is also the best player offensively. From the left side, he is a slap-hitter, sprinting out base hits and taking walks. From the right side, he his for power, accounting for his back-to-back-to-back 50-50 seasons. He has excellent speed, as well.

1B - Tyrius Valderrana (R/R). Valderrana is a rarity - a first baseman with some amount of speed. He can run fairly well, and field his position well, as well. He is in the line-up to provide some fair amount of power. Valderrana is also something of a surprise in the way he bats, since he is almost completely an opposite-field hitter, which can be both a weakness and a strength.

LF - Rabyn Zaranez (L/L). If there is a weak link in terms of fielding, it is Zaranez, who leads the team in errors. He, despite his fourth position on the team, is not a power hitter - instead, he is batting fourth for his ability to hit in the clutch. Zaranez not only has won award after award for his RBI abilities, but Zaranez is also a league leader in Batting Average with Runners in Scoring Position (RISP). Zaranez may not catch every ball, but he makes that up for his ability to drive them in.

C - Daaklen Kirjai (S/R). Kirjai is a very good defensive catcher. His greatest strength, it is said, is his ability to call a good game, which is a prized ability in a catcher. He also is very good at getting down and blocking balls in the dirt, though he can, like anyone, mess up. Kirjai, a switch-hitting batter, also possess a strong arm, having thrown out over nine tenths of opposing hitters in his career.

RF - Nan Judaron (S/R). Judaron is anything but a defensive liability. His massive arm in the right field allows him to reach the catcher or third baseman without even a bounce, placing it perfectly for the play. However, he often hits for extra bases as a hitter, but does not have much power.

CF - Tyrius Carian (S/L). Quick and dangerous, Carian is much more of a defensive player than an offensive one. With Zaranez a bit of a weakness, Carian and his skills make up for the fault, due to his excellent range and diving ability. His arm is not suspect at all, but his hitting is, because, while he hits from both sides of the plate, only his speed is above suspicion.

2B - Haridas Jyolt (S/R) If Carian is a second number-one hitter, than Jyolt is a second number-two hitter. He has the ability to bunt a runner over, to do things with a hit and run, and other such number-two hitter abilities. He also turns two well with Jarridan, and as a result, makes up a very good double-play combination.

P - Whoever.

Bench
SS/2B - Monar Calraahim (R/R).
1B/3B/DH - Garregan Jarifar (S/R).
C - Dagor Nelias (R/R).
C - Caristan Nelias (L/L).
LF/RF - Corvan Ta'an
CF - Melius Vankirior.

Starting Pitchers
RHP - Pedran Alvar. Alvar has an excellent fastball, with tremendous movement on his pitches. His fastball often reaches triple digits. In comparison, his slider looks wicked. When Alvar is on, he is untouchable.
LHP - Johan Rean. A "junkballer", Rean is noteworthy for the fact that he sets up his 87-mph fastball with a 64-mph curve, jamming lefties and righties alike.
RHP - Darius Hadagamerion. His fastball reaches up to 94-95 mph, but his abilities with his four off-speed pitched make up for it. He can defeat a team on his own and can always be counted on to be solid.
RHP - Davrain Karajad. His fastball hovers around 97 mph usually, and, with his quick-moving slider and dangerous curve, can be counted as the most solid starter on a very solid staff.
LHP - Raecher Harill. A left-hander with a big, breaking-curve, Harill may be the most suspect on the staff, but is probably the best number-five starter out there.

Middle Relievers/Long Relievers (come in when behind/tied)
RHP - Josain Villikan. Good long reliever with mid 90s fastball.
RHP - Corvan Macran. Stronger fastball, but weaker against lefties.
LHP - Gregan Xiarin. Good against both lefties and righties.

Set-Up Men (come in when ahead)
LHP - Maxin Cotras. Primarily a lefthanded specialist, can also get out righties.
RHP - John Stanford. Throws around 98 mph, can get out almost anybody.

Closer
RHP - Tyrius Validor. Throws around 104 mph, with three off-speed pitches as well. Has been untouchable in his career.

Qazox got the 3rd World Baseball Classic off to a good start as they beat Linus and Lucy 7-1. Starting pitcher Frank Sanchez went the distance, allowing only 1 run on 5 hits. The lone run for Linus and Lucy came on a wild pitch in the 2nd after a triple to left center by the second baseman.

The Pheonix scored twice in the 1st inning, after leadoff man Jason Cliff slapped a double down the line in left. After two strikeouts, Henry Gibson doubled in Cliff and the next man Kyle Warren singled him home for a 2-0 lead.

After being held in check in the second, Qazox' bats awoke in the bottom of the third when Brian Teague lead off with a single to center. Teague stole second and then was knocked in on Jason Biggsley's single to left. Jason Cliff was walked and then Mark Sorrensen knocked both of them home with a double to left center, making it 5-1. Ryan Hill then slipped a ball just over teh wall in right to finish off the scoring at 7-1.

Well you can guess how I'd feel about a redraw at this point. :headbang::sniper:

But other than that I don't have any big problems with the scores at this point. I agree with LE that he got kind of hosed getting stuck with both you and Qazox. That change happened before any scores were done so the groups should've been redrawn then, but I think it's too late now. Milchama dominate first 2 games

After heavy criticism of Kelly Hegaboom and his inept baseball managership of the national team before the tournament started has turned into praise for his "unique and innovative" roster after the Milchama Warriors dominated their first 2 games winning by a combined score of 14-2. Hegaboom said, "People wouldn't even give me a chance, I know what I am doing I will bring glory to Milchama."

The first game was against Rivenstone and ace Ken Helms delivered big time going 8 and 2/3 innings for a almost complete game shut out, giving up a run with 2 on in the 9th before being taken out. Besides Helms the offense also did well as Kory Marritt went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs and Daan Holem smacked the Milchamians first homer of the tournament for an additional 2 RBIs. The performance was excellent and left some criticism off Hegaboom.

Our next game was against the Barbarians of Grotewohl who didn't understand baseball. And it showed as they gave up 7 runs in the first committing 6 errors along the way, all on dropped fly balls or pop flies that they inexplicably dodged instead of trying to catch. After a meeting to the mound, 2 clubs over the head with a baseball hat and a reunderstanding of tactics the Barbarians were able to settle down and were almost faultless from there. Unfortunately for them so too was Daveed Orwelt who pitched 7 strong innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits. But it wasn't just him it was also the defense as Eric Marfelo, Ryan Thimes, and Kevin Jollins made some spectacular defensive plays to keep the shutout, and later near shutout going. While the game might have been fluky the press has still been declaring that we "would have won anyway" and "we're the best team in the world right now." Which probably is true considering that Az-Cz has lost their first two games. Good for them may they continue on their losing ways.

Come on you Warriors win!

Pheonix squeak by Liverpool England

TEAM 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 + R H E
LE 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 2 0 3 9 0
Qazox 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 1 2 5 10 0

A walk-off Ground-rule double ended a good game between Qazox and Liverpool England last night as the Pheonix win 5-3.

Mark Sorrensen hit the game-winning shot with the bases-loaded and 1 out in the 10th inning. His line drive to left field was going to score the winning run anyway, when it nicked the bullpen mound and bounded into the stands.

Gregory Daniels, started the game and lasted 8 innings, giving up only one run on 5 hits. The lone run he gave up was a triple by Grant Pittman, which scored Jonas Cable from 2nd. But Qazox got the lead back off of LE starter David Kieferfer, whose knuckleball drove the Pheonix' hitters crazy until the 8th. Kyle Warren doubled to left, and scored on David Johannsen's single to left. after a walk to Henry Gibson, Jason Biggsley hit a seething-eye single between the shortstop and 3rd baseman, scoring Johannsen. But Kieferfer managed to escape the inning without any more damage.

Quentin Haddaz came in to close out the game, but propmptly gave up singles to Clay Easter and Todd Allshouse. Haddaz was calmed a bit by Ryan Hill, and struck out the next two batters, but Jonas Cable ripped a double down the right field line scoring Easter and Allshouse, giving LE a 3-2 lead.

The bottom of the ninth saw Terrence Orbell come in to close it out, and like his Qazoxian counterpart, gave up two singles, to Mark Sorrensen and Jason Cliff, struck out the next two batters and gave up a double to Henry Gibson, but Cliff was thrown out at home, ending regulation deadlocked at 3-all. Qazox' Kevin de Jesus got LE to go 1-2-3 int he 10th setting up the thrilling bottom of the 10th.

Jason Biggsley got a single off of Wilford McMichaels, and Pinchhitter Neil Hermanson was hit by a pitch. But a failed bunt attempt by Ryan Hill saw Hermanson out at 2nd. With runners at the corners, McMichaels nibbled the corners a bit too much and walked Brian Teague on 6 pitches, setting up Mark Sorrensen's game winning hit.

COMMISSIONERS OFFICE

Peon: Sir the representative from LE is on the phone again, as is every other person involved with the tourney

Commish Gordon: Dammit! Why'd I take this job.. I've heard all of the complaints everyone has had the last couple fo days.. and after much thought, I have a solution, even though it will piss some teams off i guess.

Peon: I'll get the press corps here as soon as I can to the world.

FROM THE OFFICE OF COMMISSIONER GORDON
COMMISIONER OF THE WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC

Due to legitimate complaints from some members of the WBC, and other reasons, the 3rd WBC is suspended temporarily, to find a solution equitable for all teams involved. The main complaint is the fact that Group A has 2 highly seeded teams, which threw off the competitive balance of the groups. The second is the withdrawal from this edition of the WBC by Vanek Drury Brieres. The withdrawl leaves the WBC with 23 teams, which is a number that will lead to un-even groups and schedules. So until these two issues can be equitably resolved, I have no choice but to suspend the WBC., until they are resolved.

Commissioner Gordon's resolution plans:

PLAN A: Keep everything the way it is now, and award a forfeit 3-0 win to all of Vanek Drury Brieres' opponents, and play out the WBC.

PLAN B: Invite another team to take VDB's place and have them assume VDB's current record, and play out the WBC.

PLAN C: Invite another team to take VDB's place and have them re-play VDB's first two games, and play out the WBC.

PLAN D: Accept VDB's withdrawal, invite another team and re-do the group draw to be more equitable for all involved, and re-start the WBC.

PLAN E: Accept VDB's withdrawal, invite another team and re-do the group draw to be more equitable for all involved, keep the current records for each team and play out the WBC, with the new groups.

PLAN F: If you got something better than thes 5 plans, I'd like to hear it.

The vote for these 5 plans begins now and will end on Saturday at 12:01 am EDT. The WBC will be suspended to then. Please TG (qazox) with your votes...

Dragons Lose To A Non-Show Team?

Despite their oppenets never showing up to play the game, the Dragons have somehow been recorded as having lost the game by the score of four to two in ten innings. The ESC is quite upset about this strange turn of events and has sent in a complaint to the organizers of the tournament offering some explination. Depsite a legit claim to have had a 3-0 forfeit in their favor, the officials of the tournament have been strangely quiet as to why they awarded the result they had. The ESC is considering not sending a side in the next three tournaments if an explination is not given to them in the next week, or the result is overturned and the Marauders are awarded the forfeit they deserve. The ball is now in their court, and the next week should prove interesting and nervewracking for all parties involved.

OCC: I think a 9-0 result is abit of a strech, and 3-0 is more acceptable. I also think since they are withdrawing soo early in the tournament, that their oppisition that they will have faced and have faced been awarded the forfeiture. But then again, it is merely my own opinion.
Liverpool England

OOC: At this point I would only accept a solution where I'm not stuck in a group with two first seeds, or I'll continue my RP boycott of this tournament. Nothing against Zwangzug or Qazox, just very pissed no one used their heads before starting.
Az-cz
29-08-2007, 13:31
Plan F: Keep things the way they are and score VDB's games as if they were still in the tournament. They didn't withdraw out of protest or anything. They just withdrew cause of lack of time. So I honestly think its fine to keep them in and not have them RP. As for LE's complaint, I'm not sure it's that vaild either. Qazox is at best barely a one seed. According to this link here they're tied with Elves Security Forces: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12994431&postcount=80

So it's quite possible that they are a two seed. In summation I don't think either complaint is justified enough to do anything but continue on with the tournament as it originally was. And I say that as someone who has a ton to gain if we started the tournament over.

Plan F: Keep things the way they are and score VDB's games as if they were still in the tournament. That's a superior option than most of those listed above. Situations like VDB's happen often in other tournaments, and it's fine to scorinate matches for teams that aren't actively participating. (Gimme an L! Gimme an O! Gimme a V!)Qazox is at best barely a one seed. According to this link here they're tied with Elves Security Forces: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12994431&postcount=80
So it's quite possible that they are a two seed.ESF is the first seed in group 2, unfortunately. In summation I don't think either complaint is justified enough to do anything but continue on with the tournament as it originally was. And I say that as someone who has a ton to gain if we started the tournament over.Indeed: I appreciate your objectivity as well as everyone's efforts to keep this thing alive.

If the award-VDB's-opponents-forfeits-and-push-forward option is chosen (and I hope it isn't), I would suggest giving 9-0 forfeits but not counting those games when it comes to tiebreakers.

Also, Qazox, I forgot which option I voted for but I think it might have been the wrong one, so I'm telegramming you again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

OOC: You're the host you make the call. As for the seeding look at it like this:

Zwangzug 1st seed in group 1
ESF 1st seed in group 2
Az-cz 1st seed in group 3
Milchama 1st seed in group 4

So in that way Qazox could well be a 2nd seed in the group with Zwangzug. Yes LE did get shafted some, but not as much as he's making it out to be. If we're going to do anything LE's complaint is the stronger one to act upon. And the only way to do that is with a full restart. But allowing forfeits is blatantly unfair. I've lost to a team who hasn't done any RPing. That's not the standard. In my eyes there are only two options that make sense:

1. Don't do anything
2. Restart the whole cup

Anything other than that seems shamtastic.

1. Don't do anything

But finagling about forfeiting is not going to get us anywhere.

Gnomes dig bigger hole

After losing the opener expectations were high as the team travelled to Crescent Republic. Those dreams were crushed on the last pitch of the game as a 3-run 2-out homerun in the bottom of the ninth put across the only runs of the game.

Once again the Gnomes bats were absolutely dead. The team managed to scrape together an abysmal 2 hits and a walk throughout the game, with both hits coming from Mt-Wl. The pitching on the other hand was great until the last inning. Bar-Tuls carried a perfect game through six innings and had a no hitter going right up until the home run. In the ninth he got two outs after giving up a walk to leadoff the inning. He thought he had gotten the team another set of at-bats but an error by No-Gudnik in left allowed both runners to stay safe. Then after getting ahead 1-2 Bar-Tuls was just a bit off on his location and the game was over.

Despite the loss the Gnomes aren't quite out of it yet. 3 consecutive wins, especially with big margins of victory could be enough to get the team through, but things don't look good at this point. The nation of Qazox is attempting to shut down the classic for the time being, which could extend our run a bit longer, but basically if the bats don't come alive in a major way quickly two greats run will end in shame.

It seems like VDB is overreacting to not being able to RP. Which is good long term because he might be a great RPer or at least an active one.

For right now though we should just trudge through with VDB being like most other teams in this tournament, an annoying team that does not RP. Hopefully he gets back and does RP some until then it makes no sense to do anything unless you believe/care about LE's complaints. But I really don't care.

Me, Zwangzug, Mil and Corneliu all seem to have been of the opinion that things should have continued on as is. And I'm the only person to have been really unlucky and the person who will benefit most from a restart. I don't get why we're doing it.

But if that's what everyone really wants, ok. I'll go along with it. But I'm also willing to protest with people who don't wanna go along with it, especially IC.

LE,

Let me state that I don't blame you for being upset. You were slightly hosed with the draw. So I want to be clear that I don't hold any blame against you for being upset. Clearly the best solution would've been to redraw before the tournament started.

That being said once the tournament was started I don't think it was a big enough problem to warrant restarting the cup. Yes there were two #2 seeds in your group but Lovisa was barely a #2 so it wasn't that huge of a drawback. I think you want to save restarting a cup for absolutely mangled situations, which this wasn't. It was just slightly messed up.

As for the VDB thing, that's just stupid. People deciding to stop participating in sporting events happens all the time. If we restarted the world cup every time someone stopped participating in the middle of a cup we'd never finish one. Why Qazox made an issue of it I simply can't understand.

OOC: Exasperated fatalism ahead. Sorry.

Things feel as disorganized after the vote than before. I voted to restart because I felt that it would be the best way to silence complaints (and if the 13/15 statistic is true, I'm guessing I'm not alone). But that's not working.

The VDB situation has been blown out of proportion, with all due respect to Vephrall and/or any other team that would make an effort if playing in place of VDB/Lovisa/insert-non-RPing-n00b here.

I took the mean of the points (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12994431&postcount=80) for the teams in each group, and Group 1 wasn't first. As it's not too hard to guess, Az-cz's group (3) has that happy honor. There are arguably going to be groups of death (or doooom) in any tournament.

The problem as I see it is lack of organization, and by extension consensus. Qazox took over as dictator of the WBC after the person who posted the first signup thread seemed to lose interest. Meaning no personal offense, I feel we need a more structured system.

How would people feel about reverting to the very first draw, before all the substitution began? I would be fine with it, quite honestly. I'd just need to resim two matches for Sativaville. (Edit: which has ceased to exist...:/)

In light of the alternatives, that's looking like a really good plan.

Here I shall try Qazox...

A restart is too controversial an option at this point or any point really.

Continuing on would be against democracy because so many wanted a re-draw so then the only answer will be weird compromise which nobody will like.

A redraw without a restart.

Or alternately I could be autocratic and say suck it up and deal with the fact ya'll don't play baseball well.

Those are the two options discuss and debate.

I was going to say "Sure thing, thanks for asking nicely". Really. I was.

But then, as per our rapidly-deteriorating usual, chaos became realized...

For Group 2 (and group 2 only), I accidentally generated scores for the matchday 1 games on matchday 2. So, I'll get correct scores for the games that should have taken place on matchday 2 for game 2.

And then I'll attempt to get tables.

Here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13004787&postcount=27) are the correct scores...

...and here are the tables. They are certainly unofficial when it comes to head-to-head record; not all teams have played each other. The final tables will be more "objective".

Group 1:

Qazox 3-0
Sativaville 3-0
Liverpool England 1-2
Linus and Lucy 1-2
Integrite 1-2
Lovisa 0-3

(Liverpool England has more runs scored per inning played than the other 1-2 teams, and has played neither. Linus and Lucy beat Integrite head-to-head.)

Group 2:

Ambrose-Douglas 3-0
Yafor 2 2-1
Miamora 2-1
Elves Security Forces 2-1
Vanek Drury Brieres 0-3
Uiri 0-3

(Yafor 2 beat Miamora and Miamora beat Elves Security Forces.)

Group 3:

Trumanistan 2-1
Kura-Pelland 2-1
Taeshan 2-1
Az-cz 1-2
The Crescent Republic 1-2
Quakmybush 1-2

(Trumanistan beat Kura-Pelland: Kura-Pelland scored more runs than Taeshan.)

Group 4:

Milchama 3-0
Corneliu 2-1
Rivenstone 1-2
Grotewohl 1-2
Jeffersopa 1-2
Cookesland 1-2

(Cookesland lost to both Jeffersopa and Grotewohl. Rivenstone beat Grotewohl.)

Qazox comes back again in extra innings to beat a tough Lovisa team 5-4.

Starting pitcher Samuel H. Thomspon was rocked for 4 runs in the 6th inning, after Lovisa strung together 7 striaght singles to open the inning. Thompson managed to get the 8th batter out, but was pulled after reaching 120 pitches for the game. Mike Diaz came in struck out the last 2 batters, ending the threat.

The Pheonix scratched back with runs in the 6th, 7th 8th and 9th to tie it at 4 and won it in the bottom of the 10th on a wild pitch, after Kyle Warren tripled to left center to open up the inning.

Qazox scored in the sixth after Jason Cliff hit a rare homerun to left field. the run in the 7th came after back-to-back doubles by Ryan Hill and Brian Teague. The run in the 8th came off a 2nd homerun by Cliff, this time to right field. In the ninth, a walk by Pinchhitter Nathaniel Deacon, and a double by Ryan Hill.

Qazox is now 3-0, and leads the group, with surprising Sativaville right on thier heels.

"Word. Did you see the way they were celebrating beating Quakmybush? Disgraceful. No need to celebrate at all. Just walk back to the dugout like you've been there before."

"Alas, only Mt-Wl has been there before, and he went the other direction from the team at that point."

"What do you think of the team's chances to survive?"

"Not good. I think we'll beat Kura-Pelland, which will move us even with them on 3-2. The question is who the third 3-2 team will be. If Trumanistan and Quakmybush both win then we'll be through. But I fear Quakmybush will lose. Which means that we absolutely must have Trumanistan beat Taeshan. One can hope, but I wouldn't hold my breath."

"You really think we'll crash out in the first round?"

"Yeah. We don't have enough skill on this squad nor do we have good luck."

"So with us out and Zwangzug not in this cup, who's gonna win? I've got my money on Milchama."

"Nah, they're not gonna get it done. It'll be Qazox. They're the only team other than us who really gives a crap. You saw how passionate their fans are. They just couldn't get past us last time around. But it's their time."

Pheonix clinch spot in Quarterfinals

TEAM 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Integrite 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 5 1
Qazox 0 0 1 0 0 3 0 0 0 4 11 1

Qazox downs a game Integrite 4-2, to go 4-0 in qualifing.

Starting pitcher Samuel L. Thompson held Integrite two runs in the 1st after allowing 3 consecutive singles, and shut them down as he pitched a complete game 5 hitter. Neil Hermanson hit a 3-run homerun in the 6th to give Qazox a lead they would not relinquish.

Thompson was rocked early by the Integrite team, allowing the first three batters to reach on singles. After striking out the 4th batter, a dropped fly ball by David Johannsen allowed 2 runs to come in, putting the Pheonix down 0-2 early.

But as has been the case through-out the qualifing, the Pheonix just nibbled away until the big inning. A lone run came in the 3rd when Thompson singled to left, and was came in on a wild double-play throw from the Integrite shortstop that sailed over the 2nd baseman's head and wound up in the right field corner, placing men at 2nd and 3rd. A sacfly by Brian Teague, who in the 5th would be replaced by Neil Hermanson due to jammed finger, caused by a foul tip, scored the first run for Qazox. Neil Hermanson's homerun to left center scored Ryan Hill and Jason Biggsley, after each of those two runners reached via walk.

The final game is against Sativaville, who needs to win to advance. If Qazox wins, then Liverpool England would be in the best spot to win 2nd place.

I have an idea... only if others approve of it.

Zwangzug "joins" the WBC at the 2nd round stage, and will be placed in group A.

That way, Zwangzug can participate, and it does not affect the preliminary rounds.

IS that acceptable to all?

taeshan wins in ten innings over trumenistan 2-1. A homer in the first inning gave the purple knights the lead in the bottom opf the first. The homer by Zi zo gave the knights the lead then in the 4th a run was scored to tie it up. Forward to the top of the tenth relief pitcher Victor frun on the mound struck out his fifth straight batter. Then in the bottom of the inning socki lewis the hero of the classic for taeshan slammed a walk of solo homer to win the game. It looks like with that win the team will advance to the second round.

We'd like to apologize for perpetuating the misspelled "Miamora".

Group 1

Qazox 5-0
Sativaville 3-2
Liverpool England 3-2
Linus and Lucy 2-3
Integrite 1-4
Lovisa 1-4

Group 2:

Ambrose-Douglas 5-0
Yafor 2 4-1
Miamoria 2-3
Elves Security Forces 2-3
Uiri 2-3
Vanek Drury Brieres 0-5

Group 3:

Kura-Pelland 3-2
Taeshan 3-2
Az-cz 3-2
Quakmybush 2-3
Trumanistan 2-3
The Crescent Republic 2-3

(If my math is correct, Az-cz and Taeshan allowed the same number of runs, but Taeshan played a single inning longer.)

Group 4:

Milchama 4-1
Corneliu 4-1
Cookesland 2-3
Rivenstone 2-3
Jeffersopa 2-3
Grotewohl 1-4

All are encouraged to check the statistics, but as it stands Qazox, Sativaville, Ambrose-Douglas, and Yafor 2 will comprise Group A while Kura-Pelland, Taeshan, Milchama, and Corneliu make up Group B.

As the official statkeeper (at least I can get that right)

From the Host's mouth:
In considering advancement from rounds I and II, the first tiebreaker will be head-to-head record. The second will be runs allowed per inning pitched.

GROUP 3:

Taeshan 1-1 vs. K-P and Az-cz
Az-cz 1-1 vs. Taeshan and K-P
K-P 1-1 vs. Taeshan and Az-cz.

So first tiebreaker is out of the window, correct? (H2H results)
2nd tie-breaker is RA/9I, correct?

So, the way I see it:
Taeshan: 3.00 RA/9I vs. Az-cz/K-P
Az-cz: 3.50 RA/9I vs. K-P/Taeshan
K-P: 4.50 RA/9I vs. Taeshan/Az-cz

So Taeshan wins the group, Az-cz is 2nd, K-P is third.

Or if the 2nd tiebreaker is what i think Zwangzug is using it as:
K-P: 2.60 overall RA/9I
Taeshan: 2.93 overall RA/9I
Az-cz: 3.00 overall RA/9I

In that case then K-P wins the group, Taeshan is 2nd and Az-cz is third.

Either way, Taeshan is in. the only problem is K-P and Az-cz. H2H, Az-cz beat them, but by the 2nd tiebreaker (Zwangzug's interpretation) K-P would get in over Az-cz (2.60 to 3.00).

Or if we went a 3rd way, on (Run differential), then K-P wins the group (+4), Az-cz is 2nd (+2) and Taeshan is 3rd (-2).

So we're at an impasse here i think. Only possibly fair thing to do would be to add 1 team to each of the next groups (5 in each), there by allowing all winning record through to the next round. In group 1 BTW, if H2H weren't a tiebreaker, Liverpool England would win over Sativaville easily in either RA/9I or Run Differential. (1.96 to 2.35 and +5 to -1). I'm also having the same problem w/ 4th through 6th in group 3 and 3rd through 5th in group 4.

Qazox 0 0 2 0 0 0 1 0 0 3 9 0

Qazox downs Sativaville as Frank Sanchez throws a complete game 2 hitter.

Frank Sanchez came within 2 outs of the 3rd no-hitter in WBC history as Qazox defeats Sativaville 3-1 to finsih Pool play unbeaten at 5-0.

After a 2-run double in the 3rd by Jason Cliff, and a solo home-run by Jack Young, starting for a injured Mark Sorrensen, the focus of the day was on Sanchez. As the zeros piled up through 6 innings, he was perfect, but a lead-off walk in the 7th end that dream, but the no-no continued into the 9th. After striking out the lead-off batter, Sanchz fell behind the Pothead SS 3-1, and on the next pitch, a texas-league bloop to center, just over the out-streached arm of Jack young, gave the visitors their first hit. The next batter doubled home the only run Sanchez allowed, who promptly got the last two men on ground balls.

So the Pheonix advance to the 2nd round where they will take on Ambrose-Douglas the other un-beaten at 5-0 and Yafor 2 4-1. Sativaville will advance to the next round as well.

Ties shall be broken in the following order of priority:

* The team that defeated the other tied team head-to-head in a given Round shall be ranked higher in the pool standings for such Round.
* The tied teams shall be ranked in the standings for that Round according to fewest runs allowed divided by the number of innings (including partial innings) played in defense in the games in that Round between the teams tied.I stand corrected. Qazox' first scenario (1. Taeshan 2. Az-cz 3. Kura-Pelland) is indeed the case.

The Gnomes just slide into the second round

Coming into the final day the Gnomes knew they needed to win to have any shot at the second round. So that was all that was on there minds. Clearly after the game they'd turn to the other games to see if they survived or not, but at first they just had to beat a good Kura-Pelland team.

And that they did. Az-cz put up 4 runs in the top of the fourth and held on for dear life after that. After going down in order in each of the first three innings the fourth inning reminded fans of the Az-cz teams of yore. Kz-Mts hit a lead off single and then stole second. Lf-Tn attempted to bunt him over but did one better by actually earning a single with his bunt. Then Mt-Wl doubled both of the runners in to put the Gnomes ahead. Mk-Cvy singled him home and then stole second. Andrew Bartels then move him to third on a pop fly and Al-Ou added the fourth run of the inning with another pop up.

After that the Gnomes just did enough to maintain their lead. They allowed Kura-Pelland runs in the bottom of the fifth and seventh, both on solo home runs. Lf-Tn added the last run of the game after drawing a walk and stealing a couple of bases Mt-Wl singled him home.

Despite the win the Gnomes were subdued after the game, both because they didn't know what it meant and they had apparently recieved some chastising from some former players. Back in the dugout they heard the score of the Quakmybush game, with the Sharks winning which was great news. As for the Taeshan-Trumistan game they saw that the game had just finished the 9th inning with both teams tied at 1. A Trumistan victory and they won the group a Taeshan victory and it would require more math to break the tie. Unfortunately for the Gnomes Taeshan found the winning run in the 10th. Thankfully after all the tiebreakers were said and done the Gnomes were second thanks to a better runs allowed rate in the games involving Taeshan and Kura-Pelland than Kura-Pelland had. That pushed the Gnomes to the second round. Working on a three game winning streak and with a now clean slate the Gnomes are once again a threat to take the crown.

Joining them in the next round will be Milchama, Corneliu and Taeshan. Corneliu is the unfamiliar team to them. On the other side Qazox and Ambrose-Douglas showed their stuff both sweeping their groups. At this point Qazox looks to be the favorite. But for now the Gnomes just have to be happy to have survived.

Milchama Advances surprisingly easy fashion

In a very easy group stage the controversial selections for the Milchama Warriors came to fruition in grand fashion as they not only led their group with a 4-1 record they also won the silver slugger award as the best hitting team in the first stage of the group tournament. Manager Kelly Hegaboom who had criticism at the beginning of the cup for his controversial roster selections said, "I knew that the critics were just stupid and didn't know my guys. They came to play and they showed what we are capable of in baseball. This is the best form I've seen from Milchama in a long time and I expect a trophy at the end of this."

The critics and criticism have magically stopped and turned to praise for Hegaboom for "showing the doubters" and "bringing Milchama into a new age." The leadoff hitting of Ryan Thimes has been huge, his .650 average so far in the tournament has been great for the Warriors. While the RBI machine of Felix Sorano has given Milchama a huge boost to drive Thimes in. Beyond that the pitching has been excellent as well. Ken Helms is now 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA and Satchel George has 3 saves.

We hope for the Warriors and say now Come on you Warriors do it in the second round!

Gregory Daniels out pitched Yafor 2's best, Pedran Alvar. Alvar had his fastball and slider working all game, but for the 8th inning, as the Pheonix finally figured him out just enough to scrape a run off of him on three consecutive singles, first by David Johannsen then by Henry Gibson, then fianlly by Jason Biggsley, which scored Johannsen. In teh bottom of the 9th, Daniels walked the lead-off batter, Tyrius Valderrana, and Closer Quentin Haddaz came in to face the heart of the Yafor 2 order and promptly got Rabyn Zaranez to strike out and Daaklen Kirjai grounded into the game ending double play.

The win sets up a re-match against Sativaville. Samuel H. Thomspon will toe the mound for the Pheonix, as they look to possibly clinch a semi-fianl berth.

Gnomes scrape out victory, Milchama next

After just coming through the group stage the Gnomes were looking forward to the second round. Their optimism was high and there hard work eventually paid off as they took a 1-0 win from Corneliu. The score however was a bit decieving at this was not a pitchers duel, just a massive failure to hit with runners in scoring positions. All told for the game Az-cz was 1-16 and Corneliu went 0-12 with a walk. So both teams had plenty of chances to capitalize.

After a quick 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 9th the Gnomes came out swinging and loaded the bases on two singles and a hit by pitch. The Gnomes fans were getting into it and things looked to get out of hand quick. However Mk-Cvy grounded into a 1-2-3 double play and then Andrew Bartels swung out looking to end the inning.

In the second it was Corneliu's turn to load the bases with no outs and squander the great chance as Bar-Tuls struck out three straigh after giving up a triple and two walks. And back and forth it went like that until the bottom of the seventh where No-Gudnik drove Al-Ou home with a two-out double.

From there Mat-Zk and Jazop-Jazop each pitched an inning of shutout relief to preserve the 1 run victory. The team now moves on to a match with Milchama, a team they dominated in the past. Now however Milchama comes in as the better performing team and it's Az-cz who has to overcome them. A win could well guarantee Az-cz a trip to the next round so there will be a lot on the line. Fans from both nations are gearing up for the showdown, although no one is expecting another 3-2 game.

Pheonix win on Walk off Homerun

Sativa 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 1 3 9 1

Qazox gets a walk-off homerun from Manuel de la Vega with 2 out in bottom of 9th in X Park, to advance to the semifinals for the first time.

Manuel de la Vega, who had not played yet in the WBC, came off the bench with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th inning, pinch hitting for Kevin de Jesus. Kevin de Jesus relieved Samuel H. Thomspon in the top of the 9th after Sativaville hit a 3rd solo homerun off of Thomspon, giving them a 3-1 lead.

Sativaville struck first blood in the 3rd when their SS hit a inside-the-park homerun of the left field scoreboard that skitted past David Johannsen. In the 6th, They got a 2nd homerun, this time from their 3B ho lifted a 3-1 fastball into the center field bleachers. Qazox got a run back in the bottom of the 8th when Henry Gibson scored from 2nd on Sativaville's throwing error. But int eh top of the 9th Thomspon gave up a 3rd homerun, once again to the Pothead's 3B, and left the game down 3-1.

Savtivaville's Closer came in and got Kyle Warren looking at a called 3rd strike, but walked David Johannsen on 5 pitches. After a bloop single by Henry Gibson put runners on 1st and 2nd, Jason Biggsley popped out to short making the 2nd out, leaving Kevin de Jesus to come to bat. But Manuel de la Vega was sent out to pinch hit, and on the 1st pitch, de la Vega lifted a towering blast down the right field line that just nicked the foul pole, ending the game in thrilling fashion.

As mentioned, Qazox has clinched a Semi-Final berth, as has their next opponent, Ambrose-Douglas, who clinched with a 4-1 win over Yafor 2. Technically, this game is meaningless, as both teams are ensured of advancement, but pride will be on the line, as these 2 squads are the only unbeatens left at 7-0. The winner of this game could be considered the favorite to win it all.

Corneliu: Needs a win by at least 4 runs and a Az-cz win over Taeshan by 3 runs or more, to advance.

Robbers dominate their rivals

Continuing on their fine form the Gnomes took on their friends from Milchama. In the past the Gnomes had taken all five matches from the Warriors, two in the semis in the first classic and all three in the finals last time around. And the Gnomes found away to keep that streak alive with another nice pitching performance. Amusingly the two teams combined for a total of five runs, the same as in the four first four times they played as the Gnomes won 4-1.

Az-cz was again listed as the home teaming and saw themselves immediately fall behind. And by immediately I mean first pitch. A leadoff homer put the warriors up on one swing of the bat. However after that the Gnomes pitching settled down and only allowed one other hit all game. As for the batting the Gnomes found one run in the sixth to tie the game and then put three over in the 8th to put the game away. Mk-Cvy was able to just will a ball over the fence to plate all three runs that scored in the inning and that provided the difference for the Gnomes.

Next up is Taeshan the team who brought an end to Az-cz's 19 game long winning streak at the beginning of this competition. The Gnomes will be looking for revenge in a major way. Also a win there would clinch them through to the next round. The team can also advance if Milchama loses to Corenliu or if they get the right run differential breakdown.

Suicide rate increases after Warriors lose again

For the fourth straight time the Milchama Warriors lost to Az-Cz in baseball. The game was uneventful and nobody really cares except for the stupid Margaretists who feel that if we all had prayed just a little bit harder everything would be alright. I think they're full of shit, anyway, several people had a lot of money riding on the game because of the Warriors terrific start to the tournament coupled with Az-Cz ridiculously poor start to the tournament and lucky advancement into the second round over Kura Pelland.

Unfortunately for them, the Warriors went in typical Milchama fashion against Az-Cz losing quickly and quietly having no offense after a leadoff homer and the bullpen blowing it horribly in the 8th inning. In a related story several death threats have been thrown about for Barry Ovaly who is now being taken around the world with 3 body guards at his side at all times.

Now the Warriors need to regroup and start to play some actual baseball that doesn't suck Kelly Hegaboom said, "We sucked, I'm done for today." Without being able to ask him questions the press corp starting asking each other so that we could have something to do and justify our trip over to Zwangzug, of course it didn't work as interviewing each other is kinda annoying and boring. Not a good day in Milchama at all. Goddamnit.

Next up for Milchama we don't know or care, all we know is that we are better than that other side and will beat them viciously and mercilessly into the ground. Then we will make the semifinals, win and lose to Az-Cz in the finals, again. Baseball sucks. Football's starting soon go watch that.

The Pheonix got on the board early as they scrapped 3 runs in on 5 hits in the 1st inning. Jason Cliff's bases-loaded double cleared tha bases, giving Qazox a 3-0 lead. Ambrose-Douglas struck back in the 4th with back-to-back homeruns off of Thompson, cutting the lead to 3-2, but Kyle Warren's homerun in the top of the 5th made it 4-2, and the Pheonix never looked back. The final run came in the 8th when Jason Biggsley came home on Ryan Hill's sac fly.

This sets up a semifinal rematch between the two teams at Wee Field. The other semifinal will be played at X Park between Milchama and Az-cz. Milchama is looking to win its first ever game against the 2-time champs, while Az-cz is looking for its 3rd straight finals appearance.

Br-Bnd called up Ich-Ro after the game finished.

"You see that game, pally boy?"

"Good stuff. Nice to get revenge over the team that finally broke our win streak."

"And to be back in the semis. I really thought this team might have blown our chances to advance."

"Damn near did, getting incredibly lucky on tie breaks. Even the hosts weren't sure at first. But they've responded."

"True. Now we can hold our heads high and not be ashamed of them even if they fall now."

"But they better not fall now. Even more than you might think I don't wanna see us lose to any of these teams."

"Why is that?"

"Well Milchama because we've beaten them all six times we've played. That's a heck of a run of dominance that I don't want to lose. And Qazox because if we lose to them it means they've put together an undefeated run and I want us to be the only team to pull that off. Plus we beat them all four times we played last time. And that leaves Ambrose-Douglas, who we also beat twice last cup. I'd hate to lose to them cause I think they're the least deserving. So we have to win."

"Wow, to think we've got an all-time combined record of 12-0 against the other semifinalists. Amazing."

"Definitely. Looking back at the teams we've lost to it's been mostly bizarre teams. The only team we lost to who's made the semis or better is West Pasco, who no longer exists. Are other losses are to Elves Security Forces, Cookesland, the Crescent Republic, who all went out in the first round, and Taeshan. Maybe it's a question of focus and not skill."

"Could be. What is for sure is you've memorized too much about our team, brother."

"Hahahahaha. So you think we should head out to Zwangzug for some of these games."

"Yeah, if they make the finals lets round up the squad and head out there."

"Alright. Well the missus is making some noise about dinner, so I'll let you go. Talk to you soon captain."

Frank Sanchez gave up 2 solo home-runs in the 1st and 2nd innings as A-D jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th spur Qazox to its first WBC final.

Qazox' comeback began with a HBP on Henry Gibson, a double by Jason Biggsley and a sac-bunt by Sanchez made it 2-1. Ryan Hill struck out and then Brian Teague launched a 2-run homerun to dead center to make it 3-2, and Mark Sorrensen hit a homer-un for back-to-back jobs to make it 4-2, a lead the Pheonix would not relinquish. The last run int he 5th came off of 3 straight singles. Quentin Haddaz came in the game in the 9th and A-D went down 1-2-3 to send Qazox to the final.

In the final, Qazox faces Az-cz, the 2-time defending champs. Qazox has never beaten the Gnomes, but this time the Gnomes aren't as good as they were in the 1st two WBC's, while Qazox has been the most consistant team this year. Gregory Daniels will be getting the start.

Br-Bnd called up Ich-Ro after the game

"Three f**kin' two! Three f**kin' two"

"Maybe this team isn't so different from us after all."

<Both have a good laugh>

"Well we made the finals again. And beat Milchama yet again."

"It's an amazing rivalry, or string of games if rivalry is inappropriate. We've never scored more than five runs against them and yet are 7-0 all time against them. And we've beaten them four times by that same 3-2 score."

"We never put more than five runs past them?", Br-Bnd asked incredulously.

"Nope. And we only got to five once. The problem they've had is they've never plated more than two. And once again when the chips were down they folded."

"I know, it looked like they might finally get us. That early run of ours seemed a distant memory by the seventh. I can't believe we went six innings without a base runner."

"Yeah I was a little bit worried. But did you see the reaction on the face of the Milchaman pitcher after Vez-Kel stole third. It looked like he knew they were going to lose."

"Pretty sad that. There's was an out already. We were still behind. Those jams can be worked out of. Thankfully he did leave a pitch that Kz-Mts easily drove to the outfield for the sac. I can't believe their confidence evaporated so easy after that. It's not like we've dominated them."

"Certainly haven't. That's what I mean. The way we keep generating wins, especially over them is ridiculous. Just find a way. We're not always the most talented but we're always the most determined."

"So, you're missus coming along with us to Zwangzug?"

"Nah, just me. Gonna have myself a grand old time. Looking forward to seeing you there? I've gotten ahold of Li-Van and Will Clark and a couple of others."

"It sounded like the whole gang was making the trip. We're all flying into the same airport so we'll pick a place to meet and get together there. See you soon."

"Later."

Gregory Daniels pitched 7 scoreless innings of 5-hit ball and turned over a 3-0 lead to the bullpen. Daniels should have stayed in, as Thomas Reynolds, making his first appearance at the WBC gave up 7 consecutive singles to lead off the 7th inning to the Gnomes who would go on to score 6 runs, winning thier 3rd straight WBC title 6-3.

Qazox got on the board first in the bottom of the 1st inning as Mark Sorrensen doubled home Brian Teague, for a 1-0 lead. In the 4th and fifth innings Az-cz starter Bar-Tuls gave up solo home runs to David Johannsen
and Henry Gibson respectively and the Pheonix had a 3-0 lead with Daniels pitching a masterpiece. Daniels, though left the game in the bottom of the 7th after straining his calf, running out a single to left, which happened to be the final Qazox hit of the day.

Reynolds, who hadn't pitched yet in the WBC due to a sore calf, was called in to allow closer Quentin Haddaz to warm-up. Haddaz never left the bullpen as Az-cz starting with Mt-Wl and ending with PH Or-Tez laced single after single off of Reynolds, until 4 runs had come in with no outs. Paul Jones came in and got Kz-Mts to ground into a DP, but Jay-Tee scored on the play making it 5-3. Lf-Tn then doubled to right, scoring No-Gudnik while Or-Tez was thrown out at the plate finally ending the inning. Az-cz sent out Loto-Toto who pitched a perfect 8th and 9th to end the game.

Amazingly I have more wins than anyone else has games played <knocks on wood, literally>

Also looking at that list it's hard to believe that West Pasco actually made a finals. Milchama and Qazox are worthy opponents, but West Pasco?

Mt-Wl was on stage discussing his MVP award and the tournament as a whole

Question 1: Mt-Wl are you suprised you guys were able to rally to win the tournament?

Mt-Wl: Not in the slightest. I knew there was talent here and there shouldn't be any question about our mental aspects. Even when things looked rough I felt confident we could pull through.

Question 2: Did the comments coming out of Qazox that you guys weren't very good motivate you at all?

Mt-Wl: Just a little bit. And to be fair they didn't say we weren't good, just not as good as the past teams, which is probably true. But yeah we wanted to show them that we were still top dogs.

Question 3: When you came to bat in the eighth what were you thinking?

Mt-Wl: Well while the Qazoxian pitcher was warming up I told the guys that I'd get to second base to start a rally. I was absolutely determined to get on board and to scoring position and that's what I did.

Question 4: Take us through that at bat.

Mt-Wl: Well the first pitch was a beauty, then the ball, then the second pitch strike, which was a ball in reality, but whatever. I kept cool and really dug in. The next pitch was well wide so I waited. But I knew that I had to get on, so I fought off pitch after pitch. I think the at-bat ended up like 12 pitches.

voice from audience: 14 actually

Mt-Wl: And then once I was on I was absolutely stealing second. There was no way they were stopping me.

Question 5: Will you be back for the next classic?

Mt-Wl: I don't know yet. I'm the last real link to the old teams and it would be fun to go out with one more attempt, but on the other hand to go out with three titles would be great.

Question 6: What did the former players say to the team before the match?

Mt-Wl: Just that they were pleased with the way we rallied and that they knew we could beat Qazox. And reminded us that we had a perfect 4-0 record against Qazox to protect and their undefeated record to protect as well.

Question 7: Were you suprised to be chosen MVP?

Mt-Wl: Yeah. I thought it would go to a pitcher. They really carried us, especially in the second round. But I'll take it.

Annoucer: That's all the questions for now. Once again congratulations to the Az-cz team on another excellent run to the title.
