The Elsani City States

...was in the middle of all the ongoing reconstruction efforts, the fact that the few security officials that remained on site were still able to carry on a level of conversation with the workers there and the small amount of passer-by."
~Excerpt from report on the aftermath of civil troubles in Naranyanki, by one Katherine Orini, travelling journalist.

Civil troubles one might call the political, social and economic fallout across all those cities and planets that called themselves Elsani, spared from it though the Habitat itself was. Conflict is more appropriate, as made up of endless sects, groups and organizations the Elsani are merely lends itself to crumbling eventually, and without the unifying force Laaran once lent to this mass of sentients that included everything from humans to the swamp creatures of Talor, it was only inevitable that divisions and unrest would show eventually.
Thanks to the skill of people like Ms Orini and others, Naranyanki was a sad drop in the ocean of individual moves for power and authority one could have witnessed across this collection of people once brought to one face, one identity by a single person.

Diplomacy and Hospitality was the single greatest area of employment for the Elsani before this, and to an extent, it still is, the number of experienced negotiators and their support lending weight to efforts to curb the number of Naranyanki's across the galaxy. Strained relations with former friends, and said friend's own wishes and ambitions, both political and economic are only a drop in the bucket to a few dedicated, skilled minds trying desperately to save what they perceived to be worth saving, for whatever reason, personal or professional. This concept they deem worthy of rescuing, the very ideals that pulled the Elsani together in the first place amid oppression and terror, are slowly slipping away in favour of the ideologies of the past and more base, immediate needs.

For people like Katherine, and her fellow workers, this is unacceptable.
Yet if anyone is to benefit from this, it is them, the few thinking of a higher cause, thinking of the future when most are hurling words and worse at perceived opponents and threats...though when all is said and done, when the present becomes history, the deciding factor will be outside influence, influence from ones thought friends, and others once thought enemies.
