Religion in your nation...

Faxanavia
08-08-2007, 15:29
Fellow leaders, I come here today to ask, what do you feel about your nations religious practices? Do you support them, or do you feel that your nation is unfit for it? Is it perhaps a cause of turmoil in your country? Your thoughts are much welcomed.
With great respect,
The Allied States of Faxanavia

This is the chart of religions in the Kiravian Empire. We have no state religion.

Theism, better known as Coscivian Theism, is a beleif in the God of Abraham, but with practices and teachings different from the other 3 Abrahamic religions. It has thousands of demoninations, some melded with other faiths. Traditional Christians are spread throughout the Empire. Following in number are "Pagans": Wiccans, Animists, Elementalists, SPiritualists, thousands of others. Next are New Age, and the Alternative religions, (my term): UUA, Humanism, etc. Them we have our others. Sikhism, Jainism, and of course, Personality cults. Next come Agnostics, and (Not even visible on the chart) A few atheists. THere are few Atheists in Kirav itself. They were forced out by social pressure by their religious neighbours. Most of them live in a small colony granted to followers of Atheism, Embola.
Hamturwinske
09-08-2007, 04:06
Hamturwinske has no state religion. Here, all citizens are free to follow whatever religion (or lack thereof) that they wish. As such, the religious beliefs in Hamturwinske are quite diverse. Most sociological studies seem to show that atheists and agnostics make up a small majority.
Aqua Anu

There is no State Religion of Aqua Anu though most follow Roman Catholicism. Religion is a consitutional protection however there have been problems: , any thing off side of the worlds mainstream religions (Tao Shinto etc) including Christian Spin-Off's (i.e. Jehova's Witnesses Mormon etc.) such as Scientology Atheist Societal Chapters have had heavy restrictions put on them with the argument they are not religions they are states of mind. The Constitution Specifically States: All shall have the right to worship God in the religion of their choice. It does not include lack there of
Los De Abajo
09-08-2007, 05:10
The Most Serene Republic of Los De Abajo observes, as a State religion, the worship of the Great Goddess Ayn Rand. However, citizens are under no compulsion to participate in the State religion, and may in fact belong to any religion which they choose; or elect to follow no religion whatsover.

We are not insensitive to the irony of elevating Ayn Rand--who rejected supernaturalism in all of its forms--to the status of divinity. ;)

St Samuel
09-08-2007, 08:24
Officially, St Samuel remains a Christian country. This is reflected throughout Samuel public life – for instance there is an established church in St Samuel. The Head of State is a Christian monarch crowned by an Archbishop in Saint Maria. St Samuel society could be said to belong to the Christian tradition, and the majority of people in St Samuel, 52%, identify themselves as Christian.

Islam is the second most popular religion in St Samuel with an estimated 34% of the population associating themselves with the religion.
Ambrose-Douglas
09-08-2007, 09:05
Though the Federation of Ambrose-Douglas officially has no religion and the government is decidedly agnostic, a vast majority of the population, 86.43% according to the last census, practices Pastafarianism. The other 13.57% are divided up between true agnostics, atheists, locked-up Presbyterians, Quakers, bakers, and candlestick makers.
Bluvia
09-08-2007, 09:09
Bluvia is a proudly atheistic nation. Any religion practicing within our borders is heavily taxed. Our populace is highly educated and relies on science instead of superstition.
Lord Atum
09-08-2007, 09:10
Officially, my country remains an Atumite country, this is reflected throughout Atumite public life – for instance, priests have a prominent role in society - albeit one that seems strange to most outsiders, it presumably comes from Atum being the 'God of Wank,' which makes for some strange rituals. This is also why the female clergy are trusted with much better wardrobes than their male brethren, anyway, where was I? - Atumite society could be said to belong to the Atumite Tradition, and everyone here is smart enough to identify themselves as such. Which means they worship the great creator God of the same name (he’s really cool) and to a lesser extent, his ‘offspring’ and various divine minions. Oh, and there’s more than a few temples to my paramour too… Laws against irreligious utterances and ones that make public worship mandatory exist, but are very rarely enforced, due to being such a chore. It is of course, illegal, and actually punished, to worship false gods in this, the most holy domain of Lord Atum.

This is obviously not much of a cause of turmoil, as anyone with a differing opinion from the majority gets the painful zapping they truly deserve.

Anyway… What was it I was going to say?

Oh yes; Bow before your God - I am not a cliché. Really. I’m not.

Zhyolatska
09-08-2007, 10:46
In the territory of zhyolatska, we have no religion.

Religion is only the tool of capitalist and imperialist oppression! a tool to manipulate and lie to the proletariat worker! Mosques and Orthodox churches have been either demolished, torn down, or removed of all religious iconography and turned into a useful communal structure.

However, there are those who seek individual means of spiritual enlightenment, without organization or others, acknowledging no higher authority than god.

In those times they may often ask themselves... what would Jesus do?

Kura-Pelland
09-08-2007, 15:26
Kura-Pelland has no state religion; the most practiced single religion is Christianity, with the Protestants forming the largest group of active Christians. There are also relatively substantial Islamic, Buddhist and Hindu populations (at least 1% of the population, and largely concentrated in the major cities). The majority of the population considers itself agnostic, and there is a substantial atheist minority, but most do have at least some spiritual leanings.
Altanar
09-08-2007, 17:50
Altanar has no state religion. However, the monarchy and government "unofficially" tend to support the indigenous church, the Solar Pantheonic Church of Altanar. The indigenous Altanari faith is a polytheistic religion which is observed by 63% of the population. The rest of Altanar's population breaks down as follows: various Christian denominations 8%; various Islamic sects 5%; Buddhism/Shintoism/Taoism or similar observances 3%; “all other” faiths 16%; atheist, agnostic or “spiritual with no specific affiliation” 5%.

Altanar's constitution guarantees freedom of religion, which is enforced despite the government's preference for the indigenous religion.

As far as where religion stands in Altanari society, while most people claim to observe a specific religion, the nation is in reality becoming increasingly secular, with religion taking a secondary role. The Solar Pantheonic Church was a major player in Altanari politics in the past, but has found itself now in a very insignificant role as their power over the population has waned.
The Eternal Kawaii

Demonic Gophers

All in all, I'm fairly happy with the religious practices of my people. The most common religion is Mod-worship, my one faith. We loyally follow [violet], chief of the Mods, the famed Ninja Mod, Rep Prod, and the other Great Ones - even though they have yet to grant us magical powers in return for the sacrifices we offer them.

More recently, the Church of the Absolute Dog has been gaining a significant following. They're a decently respectable lot, although the faith is clearly inferior to our recognition of, and respect for, the indisputable power of the Mods. Another sizable chunk of our population refuses to worship any being, for one reason or another, and there are a scattering of other religions. Shimekism is generally the fourth most common, although some of the others surpass it once in a while, when they happen to be in style.

Tolerance is valued by all, and of course there's the matter of The Tunnels. All in all, it's a good mix, and I'm quite content with it. Though it'd be better if more of us followed the Mods.

Brutland and Norden
10-08-2007, 18:24
"Every person is free to practice their religion... the kingdom shall not interfere with religious practices of an individual..."
-- Certaro di Riggii (Charter of Rights)

Freedom of worship is guaranteed, though the separation of church and state is not stated explicitly in the 1866 Charter of Rights and the 1898 Constitution of the United Kingdom of Brutland and Norden. In practice, this separation is largely respected; legally, it has precedence in the 1935 Royal Supreme Court case Chierco Satanense r. Grattio di Borcenna (Church of Satan vs. Grant of Borcenna). The state can outlaw or severely restrict a religion under the Lagge per Religioni Eclenta e Cultu (Law for Extraordinary Religions and Cults) of 1940 provided they satisfy complex criteria. Qualifying among these are Scientology, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Satanists.

Virtually all of Nord-Brutlandese (97%) adhere to Roman Catholicism, though only about half are practising. Other significant minorities include Protestants (especially in the grant of Timberland), Muslims, Jews. A significant number reverted to the ancient Norse religion, most notably in the grant of Piscierettu, where a quarter of the population practice the ancient Norse religion.

Self-professed atheists and agnostics number about a quarter of a million.

Despite the predominant place of the Catholic Church in Nord-Brutlandese religious life, it has never been a major player in the country’s internal affairs. Perhaps its remoteness and the inherent religious tolerance of the Nord-Brutlandese did not allow it to wield a huge influence in its affairs. Also, other religious sects are very tolerant of others, though anti-religion speeches are still covered by the Charter of Rights.
Pezalia
10-08-2007, 18:42
There is freedom of religion in Pezalia, but to be considered a religion a group must have some sort of belief in a spirit realm or higher being, some sort of holy book and some sort of teaching on how we got here and where we go when we die. So Scientology isn't considered a religion.

Also, no religion is allowed to be promoted in public schools, on television, in the military etc.
