Once again its that time of year, time for the Winter Olympics. "Winter Olympics.. in July?" you may ask, but in the host nation, Quakmybush, it is winter 9 months of the year, and the perfect time for them to host these game is now. The host city is Revena, Quakmybush, which has also hosted World Cup matches.

Qazox' haul at the 2nd winter games in Keto (Unified Capitalizt States), was 11 medals. The team expects to win at least 15 this time around and if things go right a slight chance at 20.

Coverage of the Third Winter Olympiad will be on QBS (Qazox Broadcasting System) and SPQR (Sport Program Qazox Regional). SPQR will carry every men's and Women's Hockey match live and commercial free.

From MSPN--

With the 3rd Winter Olympics set to get underway shortly in Revena, Qwakmybush, Maineiacs are eagerly awaiting to see how our team fares. With the dramatic improvement shown by our Winter athletes at the 2nd Winter Olympics in Jasi'yun, and our stunning total of medals at our first Summer Olympic appearance, our nation's hopes are high. The big questions are: will our Men's hockey team repeat as gold medalists, or will they face early elimination as they did at the World Cup? How will our figure skating team, prone to inconsistency, and still feeling the gap left by the retirement of the Kellehers, perform? Does our luck only hold if the Olympics are held in the United Capitalizt States? The next few weeks will provide the answers.

From SkyTel Sports News

The Parabellium Olympic team is preparing to fly to Revena in Quakmybush for the opening of the Third Winter Olympics. With over 100 competitors going for gold, the chances for a medal is looking good for the new boys. However, questions about the readiness of the athletes have been raised.

"Well, we believe that the athletes we are sending are the top athletes to compete for our nation. I don't know why the media is saying the competitors are not ready because these men and women are ready to compete and win," said Lord McCormick, head of the Parabellium Olympic Committee. "Any talk of the athletes being unprepared is untrue and just media speculation."

The Games will be televised on PBC Channel 1 and SkyTel Sports. The competitions will be shown commercial-free and a nightly review show will be shown on Channel 2.

Mieczyslaw Waglewski left the ice to collapse onto his bench after another exhausting workout. He reached up to run one hand through his sweat-soaked dark brown hair. Waglewski was always a man driven to achieve in athletics and now that he was going to represent his country in the Winter Olympiad, he had been training practically non-stop. Olympic enthusiasm didn't seem to be sweeping the Confederated Peoples as it had for the last Winter Olympiad and the team being sent was much smaller. The new Confederal Games and bilateral international sporting events had diverted a lot of the attention of the nation's sports fans. Still, the Olympiad was a huge deal to any serious skate fans and Waglweski hoped that he could bring to men's skating the success that had traditionally attended female Confederal figure skaters. He shook his head a bit. It was best not to think about that now. What he really needed, if only briefly, was a little bit of rest so as to be in top physical condition for the next day's training.

Weight of expectations on Kelssek's winter Olympians

The last time they walked out into the opening ceremonies at Keto, things were very different. When they walk out in Revena, things will be very different. And the difference will be the weight of expectations.

The snowboard half-pipe is expected to yield a sweep of the podium, for one. The Kelssekian Olympic Committee's target is a top-three finish. The real question is whether it's possible. The Olympics have always been unpredictable, which is part of what makes them so exciting to watch. Success and failure truly are in the balance, especially when the threshold for what can be considered "success" is high.

And now that the national hockey team finally has the full A-grade roster of KHL talent, there will be no excuses, at least not good ones, that coach Greg Gilbert can give if they don't come back with some metal.

That is something our Olympians are going to have to contend with. But it's also something to take heart from. The entire country is brimming with excitement for these summertime Winter Games. Let's get it going.

Winter Olympics in July, as "new" CoOC tries again

Only months after the learning experience that was the Querzakhi summer games, a newly revamped Coocoostan Olympic Committee sends a second delegation to the nation of Quakmybush this week, for the Third Winter Olympics. Things are expected to generally go better, as a fact-finding mission to the Keto games witnessed the operation of the Kelssekian delegation, who taught them a great deal about what exactly would be needed. Plus, after the debacle of the summer games, the Coocoostan Olympic Committee quietly sacked 5 of 7 directors, leaving only head Sergey Prudunov and the media director in place. Retired cyclist Sergei Buznikin has been named as a team captain of sorts, a high level athlete who knows the pressure of olympic competition and someone who the team can relate to.

What's telling is the relative scale of participation, with only three areas that the CoOC has written off entirely. Particularly strong is the Cross Country Skiiing team, which looks to be one of the best at the games Ski Jumping, Biathlon and Hockey also look strong. The Coocoostan Hockey Federation plans to use the Olympics as a tune up for the upcoming East Pacific Hockey Championships, and plans to send the younger half the tentative side, plus the other half of draft picks and minor pros, along with a few veterans who could break the team for the first time.

It's the middle of July and Sativaville is going to the Olympics again! The Winter Olympics. If you're slightly confused, let me explain. the host country, Quakmybush is coveredin snow and ice for the vast majority of the year, and where else to have the Winter games than in such a frigid place? And as for Sativaville sending athletes to this? Well we're not that good at winet sports, but the SOC (Sativaville Olympic Committee) has decided that if Jamaica could do it why not us? so here's our squad of Olympians and good luck, we'll need it.

BUSINESS IN BRIEF
UNITED CABLE BEATS OUT KBC FOR OLYMPIC RIGHTS
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has announced that sovietised corporation United Cable (NCSX: UKC) has won the broadcast rights for the Third Winter Olympics, beating out the bid of the public broadcaster Kelssek Broadcasting Corporation in a surprising result. United Cable is expected to televise the Games on its free-to-air and cable sports specialty channels operating under the National Sports Network brand. The amount United Cable paid for the rights was not disclosed, but it is expecting over $600 million in advertising revenue from its broadcasts.

The athletes have finally arrived here in Revena and the weather could not be more perfect weather for the Opening ceremonies tommorrow. 38 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. While the offical start isn't for a couple more days, the althetes will be hard at work practicing for their respective sports.

We do have all 11 medal winners returning, and they are excited to add to their medal haul, especially the Bobsled team of Larry Fine, Curly Howard, Moe Howard and Shemp Howard, who have won 2 medals in 2 tries. This will be their last run at the Olympics, and they want to make it a Golden one. we spoke with two of the members of the team, Larry Fine and Shemp Howard earlier today.

FLI: Guys, how does it feel to be going after a 3rd consecutive medal?

Fine: Awesome. We got silver at the both Olympics so far, and this time we're not going home without the gold.

S. Howard: We've spent every chance over the last 4 years improving our start, which has always been one weakness. At the last event we had before these games, we had our best run ever a 55.10, which would have gotten us the gold at the First games.

FLI: for the first time, Qazox is sending two 4-man teams out there. How is having the 2nd sled going to effect the way you four approach the event?

S. Howard: Not at all. They are a good young team, but on the track, it is every team for themselves.

Fine: We've helped them train a lot over the last year or so, and they got talent, but they seem to be little reckless out there. On the World Cup circuit, they've won 2 races but have 6 DNF's, so it's hard to tell who they'll fare here.

FLI: Last question. How many medals do you think Qazox will get in these games?

Fine: I think we'll get 17 or 18. and 8 Golds.

S. Howard: 20 medals, 9 Golds.

FLI: Thank you guys for your time.

From MSPN--

Excitment is building, both at home and here in the Olympic Village. Our athletes continue to practice for their upcoming events. We had a chance to look in on some of the practices, and they appear promising. We plan to bring you expanded coverage here on MSPN, looking more in depth than ever before. Also, be sure to check out our website at www.mspn.mai for a rundown of each day's events. Our website now features a more user-friendly format, with daily competition arranged by event. We will also feature live coverage of most events, as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Kura-Pelland
25-07-2007, 10:50
As the teams settle in the mountainous south-western corner of Atlantian Oceania, Kura-Pelland's athletes are said to be 'chomping at the bit' to compete.

A spokesperson for the team said 'the Noorde region in particular are so excited about this as they are relatively unrepresented in other sports, especially baseball; they are passionate about snow and ice sports and this is their ultimate event, the one they dream of even more than the World Cup.' Medal hopes from that region include skeleton luger Takeshi Yesha from Isetkilde, ski-jumpers Xavier Moreno and Geoff Tristin of Brosraig and luger Hannah Ownewk of Helma. Most medal hopes, however, are placed on Wulting-based speed skater Tim Teal.

OOC: No time to RP for now, but here's my roster.

IC:
Ariddia lacks the funds to participate properly in this Olympiad, but will nonetheless be sending a token delegation, consisting in two Ariddian residents of Atlantian Oceanian countries.

Arnaud Cordier, aged 19, living in Bazalonia, will compete in the Men's Halfpipe in Snowboarding. Ishwa Mariotti, aged 24, living in Pacitalia, will compete in the Women's Short Programme in Figure Skating. Both were born outside Ariddia (they are citizens of their respective countries of birth and residence) but have at least one Ariddian parent, and are therefore Ariddian (Citizenship_and_immigration_in_Ariddia#Persons_born_abroad_and_of_Ariddian_descent). Kits will be provided by the nearest Ariddian embassy.

Fort Lee Independent

After massive delays due to bitterly cold weather, that surprisingly failed to produce any snow, the 3rd Winter Games held in Revean, Quakmybush fianlly started.

In Women's Curling, Qazox held off a pesky Taphel 5-4.

Taphel 0 0 1 0 2 0 1 0 0 0 4
Qazox 1 0 0 1 0 3 0 0 0 0 5

In Men's Short track Speed staking, both Ivan Terrib and Jaqcues Strappe failed to qualify for the semifinals.

Jacque Strappe 2:28.478 (39th) DNQ
Ivan Terrib: 2:22.472 (12th) DNQ

Men's Downhill saw Qazox' Paul Rubens and Walter Asimov finish 20th and 23rd respectively, well off medal pace.

Paul Rubens 1:52.76 (20th)
Walter Asimov 1:52.93 (23rd)

In Men's hockey, A late goal by Lkfsteooau in the 3rd period tied Taphel 3-3. Other goals were scored by: Yoeeuoeckndpc and Ayayoeeindstrd.

Qazox 0 1 2 3
Taphel 2 0 1 3

And in Women's Luge after the 1st run, Jadzia Troi with a time of 46.594 is in 4th; Ro Dax is in 22nd with a time of 48.006, and Deanna Laren with a time of 50.131 is 55th.

So far a busy first day, with a couple of disappointments, but these games are just getting started.

(OOC to Quak: Usually in Short track, the top 24 skaters advance to the quarters, where they have 4 heats with 6 skaters. The top 3 in each heat advance to the semis, and then there are 2 semifinals heats with the top three in each advancing to the finals. just letting you know.. unless the 1500 was to be the LONG track, then you've got it right.)

Sativaville Sun Times

Sativaville's first day the the Winter Olympics went better than anyone thought it could as the Ice Hockey team stunned Kura-Pelland 5-2. Lead by three goals by Alfonzo Fosson, a goal by Dewitt Pasaye and an empty net goal by Rico Gruntz, the Ice-heads, as they've been nick-named managed to do quite well on the frozen water.

There was no other action today that involved the rest of the team, so they went to the hockey match and cheered for their countrymen.

A lot of people have asked "Why no women in the delegation?" the answer is: none were intrested in coming. We almost had a figure skater, but she broke her leg after falling on the ice. I guess roller skating doesn't directly translate into figure skating.
Kura-Pelland
16-08-2007, 11:53
A day of sporadic success for Kura-Pelland, with clear winners and losers dotted around the multiple sports.

Commerce Heights dominated the speed skating, with much-hyped Tim Teal unable to make the last eight with his time of 2:22.425 in the long-track 1500m. 'They have the best athletes, and they have the best equipment,' Teal said. Indeed, most of the top eight were representatives of very wealthy capitalist nations, but Teal was disappointing in finishing 11th in the qualifiers. Kevin Williams, however, set a personal best of 2:22.571, 14th overall. 'I exceeded all my expectations,' said 17-year-old Williams, who held a previous PB of 2:23.190. 'I aimed for the top 30 realistically. Top 15 is great.'

In the other speed skating event, the long-track 5000m, Vincent Sharp came an impressive fourth, but all three medallists were a long way clear. 'In an odd way, it makes it less painful as well,' Sharp suggested. 'I can't think 'oh, if I'd done one thing differently I'd have got it'. The other three were just incredible.' Bjorn Hoffman of Jasi'yun won gold.

The female curlers came back from behind to win 7-6 against Kelssek, Eliza Curzon's aggressive tactics proving successful in the end after early wobbles gave Kelssek a 3-0 lead. 'The team did well to come back from that, and we feel a lot more confident for the rest of the competition,' Curzon told NTV Sport afterwards.

In the blue riband alpine skiing event, the mens' downhill, Gary Urpley was the top Kura-Pellandi, finishing 21st. Harold Burton, just behind, was 24th, and said the standards were 'very high indeed, as one would probably expect.' Lars Erikson of Qwan won gold, with Edward City's Jon Bordas and Bostopia's
TV Avery taking silver and bronze.

A mistake on the last corner by Hannah Ownewk may have finished off her hopes of success in the luge, her time of 48.006 leaving her well down on the leaders.

In ice hockey, the men's team were beaten 5-2 by an on-form Sativaville, with Alfonzo Fosson leading the way with a hat-trick.

The story of the day was on another ice rink though, as Tim Tremblett and Sam Moore took the lead in the pairs figure skating after the short program. With the Vephrese pair of Dings Ceedast and Dustele Echeng in second, 2.4 points back, it seems as though there will be celebration somewhere on this landmass. But there is a way to go.

From MSPN--

After much delay, the 3rd Winter Olympics got underway in Revena, Qwakmybush, and so far it has not been the start we were hoping for. Let's take a look at the Day 1 results:

Curling

Our Women's team began competition by beating Oliverry 7-5. The match was tied entering the final end, then on her last throw, Lorena Borato managed to score 2 to win the match.

Short Track Speedskating

Maineiacs had no qualifiers in the Men's 1500m. Denis Lectoure was 16th, Park Toh Soon was 20th, while Greg Roberts finished 34th and Calvin Erlich was 35th.

Speedskating

The first medals of the Olympics came in the Men's 5000m, but no Maineiacs were on the podium. Skeet Shorter was 14th, Miguel Fuentes was 17th, Harold Carter was 35th and Murray Golic was 37th.

Alpine Skiing

Even less impressive was our showing in the Men's Downhill. Jim Grant was our best finish, at 33rd. Graham Pollard was 41st, Lodi Davenport was 47th. Toby Meyers had probably the best day of our skiers: he fell and mericfully did not finish the race.

Figure Skating

We fared no better in the Pairs Short Program. Tomlinson & Wallach were 12th, and Poulin & Sellars were 13th. Neither team has much chance to medal.

Hockey

Our Men's team didn't lose their first match, but didn't win either. They skated to a 3-3 tie vs. Oliverry.

Luge

In run 1 of Women's Luge, Maria Castillo missed qualifying for run 2 by .124 seconds. She was 9th. Marge Stanton was 25th, Kelly Vernon was 26th, and Lauren Smith did not finish.

Freestyle Skiing

In Men's Halfpipe, after the first qualifying run, Brandon Phelps was 12th. With a good 2nd run, he could qualify for the finals. Justin Wallace was 23rd, Keenan Waters was 24th, and Otto Werner was 35th.

Men's 1500m Short Track Speed Skating
None of Parabellium's athletes advanced to the semifinals, with Greg Sanney finishing 15th and Richard Bonham finishing 24th.

Men's 5000m Speed Skating
Parabellium had a respectable finish in this competition, with Manny van Oresten finishing 6th and Sam Thorsten finishing 18th.

Men's Downhill Skiing
A poor finish for both skiers as John Fischer finished 28th and Eddie Feilhaber finished 31st.

Men's Hockey

Olympics: Revena games off to unspectacular start
REVENA, QUAKMYBUSH—The III Olympic Winter Games got underway today in Revena, where the Capitalizt delegations, with short-track speed skater Ignásio Ernandeso as their flagbearer, began the parade of nations during the opening ceremony, then were, for a wide array of reasons, disappointed in the actual events. Their complaints are numerous—and are listed below. “I wish this were like 케토 (Keto),” said Capitalizt SLANI curler Arlene Martínez. “I heard the organizers there did a great job.”

In women’s curling, Capitalizt SLANI and 자스연 (Jasīʼyūn) found themselves playing each other in their opening match, the 혜성즈 (Hyesūŋjī) achieving a narrow 6–5 win in extra ends. Martínez said of the loss, “That match was rigged, I’m sure of it! The brooms were all wrong, and the stone was about ten kilos too light! The ice was bad, too!”

Both the first round and the semifinals of the men’s 1500 m event in short-track speed skating were held on the first day. Many participants were befuddled by the decision not to hold quarterfinals in the event, which forty-seven athletes had entered. For the qualification round, all of them were lined up in rows of six behind the starting line, resulting in the seeded athletes—two from SLANI, one from Estresse Intenso, one from Cafundéu, one from Oliverry, and one from Wentland—to have a clear advantage over the other entrants. Though four athletes were disqualified during the highly competitive heat, no one was advanced as a result of these disqualifications, which caused numerous protests to be lodged. There was no time to deal with these protests before the semifinals—for which the usual waiting time between races was not observed—in which the three Capitalizt athletes finished first, third, and fourth, having all been placed in the first row despite Enriko Ánjelo having finished seventh in the first round. Their only competition in the final, for which all participants will finally have an equal start, will be Estresse Intenso’s Professor João Melão.

In long-track speed skating, the 5000 m event was held, in which Björn Hoffmann of 자스연 (Jasīʼyūn) won the Unified Capitalizt States’ first gold medal. The three medalists finished nearly eight seconds ahead of any other competitors. There are several reports that this was caused by an increase in temperature of several kelvins for a short time during the race, but Quakmybushian officials denied it and Hoffmann refused to speculate when interviewed.

The men’s ice hockey competiton saw the Capitalizts and 혜성즈 (Hyesūŋjī) pitted against each other on the first day yet again, causing a senior Capitalizt Olympic Committee [Capitalizt SLANI] official to accuse the manufacturers of machines used to conduct draws for the World Cup and Olympics of fixing them in favor of such matchups. The fixture ended in a 3–3 draw. Nothing was obviously wrong during the match, though this could have simply been due to the incompetence of the players on both sides of ther rink.

Competition rules for the menΓÇÖs halfpipe in snowboarding were most peculiar, as the usual two qualifying runs are to be used, but none of the top athletes in the first qualifying run were given spots in the final, and will still be required to complete the second qualifying run. It is unclear whether the qualified athletes will be decided by the sum of the two runs, the greater of the two runs, or some yet-unrevealed method.

Perhaps the most serious complaint against the organizers was the lack of availability of any sort of schedule of events. On the first day, athletes were told when they were competing and where only minutes before the competition was to begin. It is unclear whether any events were delayed due to this inefficient means of notification, as media entities were not notified of the scheduled event start times. Also, once the events were finished, the official results were provided in a format that was both difficult to read and which often had spelling mistakes in athletesΓÇÖ names, such as short-track speed skating finalist ΓÇ£Joao Melao.ΓÇ¥

Kura-Pelland
17-08-2007, 12:32
Kura-Pelland picked up their first medal of the games courtesy of speed skater Rachel Kolleen, with the mens curling team the other standouts as they humiliated Qazox 14-4.

Kolleen's time of 4:08.35 was just outside her PB and saw her edge ahead of the Capitalizt Gina Stewart, though as expected it was another - Kaiti Tsintikidoy of Jasi'yun - who stormed to gold ahead of a Lovisan, Carla Zijlstra. Kelli Breanne was in the middle of the pack with her time of 4:13.19.

Surprises galore in the half-pipe qualification, as David DuPont failed to make it through but Dimitri Zlatan made it instead - a fine run producing a 29.9 score. Tony Kenseth's outrageous 540-grabs make him favourite for the final but consistency is the key in these awkward conditions, which have claimed many victims in the event already - including another Kura-Pellandi, James Oker, who fell in his second run and 'never nailed a trick', as he lamented later.

Hannah Ownewk fared better today in the luge, shaving almost a second off her first run time to produce the sixth fastest run of day two.

In the womens cross-country pursuit, Coocoostan's two athletes humiliated all-comers, but are believed to have no illegal drugs in their system. Many were surprised to find they did not even show traces of the legal drug RP-inin. No Kura-Pellandi athletes were at all in contention and Rhiannon Illingworth did not even finish after suffering a hamstring injury.

NTV Sport's coverage of the Winter Olympics has proven moderately popular, highlights packages in primetime have gained audience shares around 7%, good for sixth in the timeslot, while daytime live coverage has picked up a bigger slice of the smaller audience pie and has generally been first or second in the timeslot. Coverage has also been available in Dutch - the first language of the Noorde region - on a regional channel, and this has been successful, gaining that channel's highest ratings in three years.

Second day, second places, two silvers

Brandon Shelley has won Kelssek's first medal of the Third Winter Olympics in Revena by finishing second in the men's 20km biathlon.

Shelley, who finished 12th in the same event at Keto, was overjoyed. "All the hard work I've put in, it's great now to see where I stand, and that's on the podium," he said to reporters.

Missing several targets cost him dearly in Keto, but he was almost flawless today and Shelley credited a new technique his coach had him try for the major improvement.

"We worked on breathing control and we really broke down the whole shooting part. It was almost like re-learning everything, but it worked."

Meanwhile, Adrienne Gauthier took a second silver medal by placing second in the women's moguls in the freestyle skiing competition, a remarkable achievement for a first-time Olympian.

"Fantastic!" she said when asked how she felt, although she did little else but grin at reporters the rest of the day.

Patterson speaks out on judging criteria

Meanwhile, snowboarder Colin Patterson has criticised the Olympic judging system after he surprisingly failed to qualify for the halfpipe final.

"It's become so intensely focused on what trick you can pull off rather than looking at your run as a whole. You can have a crappy run and do a 1080 at the end and you'll get high scores. Some guys qualified like that. It was bad enough in Keto but now it's verging on the ridiculous."

Patterson narrowly missed out on a bronze in Keto, but had been tipped for the gold after he awed the spectators at the national championships in February, beating the other three Kelssekians in the half pipe competition, who have progressed to the final, including Mark Hendon, who will be defending his gold medal.

Pashagulva, Karp, win Gold and Silver by minutes, allegations commence.

Coocoostan had to wait the better part of two weeks to win a bronze medal in sailing at the Querzakhi Olympics in may. This time around, Mark Noble finished 4th in the Downhill on day 1 and Coocoostan won two medals in the same event, a first, on day two. Elena Pashagulva and Jill Karp flattened the competition, winning the Women's 7.5km by several minutes over the bronze medallist from Quakmybush, with Tina Kamenskaia finishing sixth. It was an impressive start for the Nordic Skiing team, which between Cross Country and Ski Jumping, is expecting a significant medal haul all by itself. The difference between the new and the old is simply startling, as the Winter delegation to the olympics has looked very coordinated, with athletes consistently breaking the top ten.

But it's not all roses for the Ibix early on, as an embarrassing performance in the short program of pairs figure skating has put Mikhail Gradenko and Lena Kuzmina well back, although they should be thankful Kuzmina wasn't injured when Gradenko pratically threw her into the boards. Still, that's hardly the only problem. Even before Pashagulva and Karp received their medals, there was already the usual talk of doping, even after a drug test proved that false. CoOC officials cried foul. "We're truly seeing how it is at these games. When some someone from a country that's got deeper democratic roots than ours makes a good showing, they have perserverance, or dedication, but when someone from a country where slavic people lives wins by 'too much', they're instantly a cheat for the rest of their lives. It's not only nonsense, but it's frankly offensive. I hope our athletes take that into consideration when they get back to competing," said one official, who spoke on anonymity.

Still, getting back to competing won't be soon, as another holdup will delay the games for two days.

Neville Keanes whistled as the snowstorm which had forced competition blotted out the view from the windows in the Kelssekian area of the Olympic Village with a thick veil of white. The central heating was humming with pleasure as it kicked into action and prevented hundreds of the best winter athletes from all over the world from dying of hypothermia.

As he reached the rec room he spotted the stack of yesterday's National Independents which were posing as a fire hazard. Eagerly he opened the sports section to find it completely mangled by other people having cut out articles about their performances. Undeterred, he grabbed the next copy... and the next... and the next...

Eventually he settled for the complete headline "Blueleafs run riot over Edward City" along with half of the photo of him celebrating the third goal with Gary Bavarillo.

Day Three Results:

As with Day 2, Day 3 did not bode well for Qazox.

Men's Alpine Combined - Downhill:
The skiiers struggled again as the hills were more ragged than normal leading to slower times for all. Walter Asimov finished in 15th with a time of 1:52.43, while Paul Rubens was 34th with a time of 1:54.94. These times mean that the two skiiers will have to make up lots of time or the 2nd run.

Women's Hockey:
The Lady Pheonix jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st period, but Kura-Pelland came back with 4 goals of their own in the 2nd and added an empty-net to finish it off. The goals were scored by: Olechka Bykovna at 5:09 and by Katharina Bergmann at 17:23.

K-Pell 0 4 1 5
Qazox 2 0 0 2

OLYMPIC REPORTS
Day of disappointments

REVENA - As competition at the Winter Olympics in Revena resumed following delays due to a snowstorm, it soon became clear that this was going to turn out more disappointment than anything for Kelssek.

Derrick Teterboro and Jessica Whyte were the first to be left chewing their lips over what might have been as a few tiny mistakes in an extremely competitive field at the pairs figure skating competition dashed the hopes of the medal favorites, who finished 6th.

"We weren't as smooth as we could have been. There were a couple of slips and things and the judges really picked them up. The competition's definitely getting tougher," said Whyte. Kelssek's other pair of the Olympic debutants Patrick Babin and Velvet Steen placed 8th.

Lacroix falters

Things got worse, meanwhile, for Jean-Luc Lacroix, who had a torrid day on the slopes in the alpine skiing combined. Battling the flu, he clocked a time of 1:53.98 in the downhill segment, well off the pace in what was supposed to be his best segment of the combined competition.

Women's hockey team held by Edward City

A rather ho-hum day for Kelssek was rounded off by a lacklustre 2-2 tie as the women's hockey team failed to muster much of anything against Edward City and were lucky not to lose. Jeanna Ulrich, who carried the flag at the opening ceremony, was the heroine on the night, deking her way into the slot and nailing the puck top shelf for the vital game-tying goal with 4 minutes left in the third period.

Meanwhile, as expected, two of Kelssek's girls on the half-pipe are through to the final as Lyndis Lemaire and Leann Forget booked their spots with solid runs and can focus on how they might manage to beat the spectacular Kelly Osorio of Cafundéu, who was miles ahead of the competition today. Jeanne Carpentier and Laurie Shekania will hope to do the same at the second run tomorrow.

Men's Hockey:
The Pheonix took on their once colony of Sativaville and after 60 minutes on the ice, nothing changed as the teams skated to a 3-3 draw. Sativaville Sun Times

After two days of nothing involving the limited delegation of Sativaville, Day four saw the 2nd hockey match and the beginning of Doubles Luge.

In Hockey, The Qazox Pheonix answered every goal the Potheads threw at teh net, and the teams drew 3-3. Goals by Alfonzo Fosson in the 1st and 3rd periods, his 4th and 5th so far, and the goal by Milford Duston in the second, gave Sativaville leas of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2, but Goalie Brant Nauer, couldn't hold off Qazox. But a 1-0-1 record thru 2 games is a good start.

In Double's Luge, the team of James Brown and Barry Sanders had a time of:49.690 placing them 26th of 27 teams. Only the crash suffered by Grade/Wilson kept them from last place. On the other side the team of Curtis Martin and Emmet Smith finished with a time of 47.501, placing them in 6th after the first run. Brown and Sanders have lots of work to do to get back into contention, while the team of Martin and Smith just need to get a bit faster for a medal.

I was asked the other day why all of our Bobsleders, Skeleton riders and Lugers have names of NFL players in the United States. I chuckled and asked the person to compare the photos of the athletes in question to the ones he supposed they were. He went away apologizing profusely. Sativaville would never stoop as low as using professional athletes in the Olympics. They just have the same name or similar ones.

Candelaria And Marquez
21-08-2007, 17:19
The Candelaria And Marquez Olympic Association has confirmed in the last few minutes that they will be issuing a formal complaint to the authorities at the Third Winter Olympics in Ravena, Quakmybush.

The nineteen-strong team of athletes and other assorted officials were turned away from the country late last week, after being told that they did not have the proper accreditation.

After an internal investigation, the CMOC and the Ministry for Culture, Media and Sport; concluded that there was no evidence of such a breach, and called upon officials in Revana to explain their actions.

The team have since travelled to nearby Atlantanian Oceania country Kura-Pelland, where they are residing at a hotel in Varlona with the C&M national football team.

Speaking on behalf of TeamC&M; Nina Phillips, 27, an entrant into the women’s half pipe and snowboard cross sections, admitted that it was “heartbreaking” watching the Games on television. “We weren’t expecting to medal, or even get close to it,” she told the Herald Online, “But it was always considered important for us to be there. For ourselves, the viewers back home, and as preparation for the Summer Olympics guys. We’re all very disappointed.”

The United Commonwealth was no where near it's proper playing ground, not to mention sending the proper athletes. The 'well' trained athletes of the United Commonwealth have failed to produce any medals for the black, white and red. Although there is one hope, the national men's hockey team, a sport that the Commonwealth has failed to every go international with. The women's luge was a disaster, as Leisa Struder failed to even finish the last run, ending with a broken sled and two wrists. Meanwhile Kristina Hollander had a fairly fast first run but then begun to slow down until the 4 run where she begun to pick her game up slightly. Women's hockey was a huge failure in the latest game, 1-7 Coocoostan victory, a huge blow to the entire Commonwealth athletes. And what looked promiseing in the Men's curling, the men's team was defeated by Coocoostan 5-6.

Lets hope the rest of the athletes fare better. Heres to you!

Ouch! Lacroix tumbles out of combined
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r56/kelchek/revena07-2.jpg

REVENA, Qmb. - He might have looked a long shot after a poor opening performance but Jean-Luc Lacroix is now definitely out of it after he took a tumble in the first slalom run of the alpine skiing combined competition.

Perhaps succumbing to the pressure after placing closer to last than first after the downhill segment, Lacroix went hard, attacked the course, took more risks, and paid the price when he slipped and fell almost exactly halfway through.

"I'm disappointed of course, but I've still got another chance to win," Lacroix said in the press conference afterwards. His sights are firmly set on the slalom and downhill competitions and will hope to put this disastrous start behind him when he goes for the gold there.

"I still think I've got a very good chance. If you're going to write me off just on the last two days you're making a big mistake." Lacroix added. John Van Allen of Edward City won the gold in that event, while bronze went to a Coocoostani, Mark Noble. Coocoostan's athletes have made a great start to the Games and lie third in the medal standings after four days.

All four through for women's halfpipe, uphill task for men
Kelssek's snowboarders are meanwhile also feeling the heat after the stellar run of home favourite Alvin Moran at the halfpipe. While Alexandre Marcion and defending champion Mark Hendon are second and third respectively, both know they have a lot to do to match Moran's performance, which included so many spins and so much amplitude, several physicists have keeled over from all the stress and are begging for some Paracetamols. Andy Gregan was nowhere to be found after flubbing his first run badly and will need to pull out something special to get back in medal contention. He reportedly blamed his MP3 player for "not getting me in the zone enough". However, there was good news for the boarder girls: all four are through to the final as Jeanne Carpentier and Laurie Shekania booked their spots.

Kelssek 4-2 Vephrall
Captain Neville Keanes continues to lead the charge for the men's hockey team as he scored two and was named first star for Kelssek's second win in its second game, a 4-2 victory over Vephrall. With a full-strength roster of top KHL talent to choose from, coach Greg Gilbert wouldn't have many excuses and the players even fewer if they don't outperform the junior team which won silver at Keto.

"It's a tough target, no doubt," Keanes said after the game, "but we have something to prove. We all wanted to play last time and now we have the chance and we have to go all out for that gold."

"Is it always like this?" asked Stephie Eberhardt.

"Like what?" asked Courtney Rogers-Bellamy.

"Do we always get off to such a terrible start?" asked Stephie

"We always have so far. First time around, the mood got real ugly after a week and a half went by with no medals. There was that bizzare push to withdraw. Last time, we felt better after Damon Ryan got the silver in Biathlon, but then kind of deflated after the medals stopped coming and our short-trackers got disqualified. It improved in week two when we started winning again. I was talking to Warren Kellerher, and he said the Summer Olympics were much different. We jumped out of the gate well, and never looked back. He was there for his sister, and he said the Summer Olympics were a 3-week-long party."

"Well, I hope things turn around soon. Everyone seems so depressed." said Stephie.

"Hey, don't let it get to you. Don't feel down until I kick your butt when us girls take the ice." said Courtney.

"You wish," said Stephie with a grin. "we'll see who's down when the medals are handed out."

Courtney stuck her tongue out at her.

Day Five Results:

Day 5 saw Qazox' first gold medal, a curling comeback and disappointment in skiing.

The Luge Doubles 2nd Run was and the team of Ro Dax and Jean-Luc Crusher had an amazing run of 46.52 for a total time of: 1:34.28. They had to wait out 9 other teams, but when the last sled crossed the finish line, Qazox had its first gold of these games. 4 years ago the team of Dax and Crusher just missed gold, but they can finally claim themselves as the best pair ever to luge. In 3 olympics they have 2 Golds, and a silver. The other team of Riker/Troi finished in 22nd with times of 49.50 (1:37.88).

Men's Curling:
Team Pheonix alternated points with the Gnomes for the 1st 4 innings, but 3 points scored by Az-cz in the 5th and 6th saw them with a 7-4 lead. But some brilliant throwing by vice-skip Nicholas Reece and some good brushing by Harold Early allowed Qazox to get back in it and on the last throw Early knocked Az-cz' stone just far enough away to claim victory!

Az-cz 0 2 0 2 2 1 0 0 0 0 7
Qazox 2 0 2 0 0 0 1 0 1 2 8

Men's Alpine Combined Slalom Run 2:
Walter Asimov did what he could, but a briliant run by Edward City's John Van Allen on the final run of the day knocked out Asimov' chance at a medal. Asimov's time was 55.36 and his total time was 3:40.95, placing him 4th. Teammate Paul Rubens, struggled but do a number of crashes finished in 14th with times of 1:06.10 (4:00.56).

Day Six Results:

Day 6 saw a crash, a clipped gate or two, a loss in Hockey, a couple of quick runs and a draw in curling.

In Men's Halfpipe Finals run #2, Tony Kenseth almost nailed his 1080 indy-grab, but the nose of his board clipped the upper lip of the half pipe, send him and his medal hopes to the ground below. He did score a 27.8, but his best run of 31.5 left him in 8th place, well behind the medalists.

In Women's Downhill, the Potluck sisters both clipped gate 5 and those mistakes cost them medals. Denise Potluck finsihed 7th with a time of 1:57.89, while Rene finished 12th with a time of 1:58.76.

In Women's Hockey, Qazox ran into a tough Sorthern Northland team and lost 4-1. The lone goal was scored in the 2nd period by: Katharina Bergmann at 17:23.

Kura-Pelland
23-08-2007, 12:28
Surprise near-miss for Kura-Pelland on day 6 as Briony Pearce came a frustrating fourth in the womens' downhill depsite an excellent run; her 1:57.32 looked like a good time until three sensational late runs. Feliciana Ribiero picked up gold with a time of 1:54.47; Kate Bucksway of Sorthern Northland picked up bronze with the day's last run, a time of 1:56.06 leaving Pearce over a second outside the medals. She conceded, however, that she had targeted 'top ten at best really - almost everything worked out, I just wish there'd been some more fresh snow falling later on because that might've made the difference!'

The socialist spirit was clear on the curling rinks, at least accidentally; no fewer than three draws in the womens' event, Kura-Pelland involved in one with Qazox that was particularly remarkable as each team scored once in alternate innings. Analysts suggested this was down to great consistency from each team in defensive play and the few opportunities to open the game up not being taken.

The womens' ice hockey team weren't in an egalitarian mood, storming to a 3-0 lead against Edward City in the first period and holding on to win 5-2.

Fiona Newton just missed out on the 500m short-track speed-skating finals, her time of 45.783 leaving her in tenth. 'It was a very close competition, and I'm a bit frustrated that it didn't quite work out,' she said in an interview afterwards. In the mens' long-track race over the same distance, Tim Teal recorded a time of 32.52, and all but two of those to beat him were from the United Capitalizt States. 'They just dominate this sport and I'm very happy to be right up with the best of the rest to be honest,' he said afterwards.

Dimitri Zlatan was plumb last in the halfpipe final, to the surprise of few; Alvin Moran of Quakmybush emerged victorious, picking up the first gold for the hosts. Kelssek's trio of athletes were just unlucky, finishing fourth, fifth and sixth. Jasiyun and Cafundeu dominate the medals table with seven golds, seven silvers and a bronze between them. Quakmybush have eight medals, but only one gold; their Games may be summed up by the mens' moguls, where Warren Wilkins and George Kelly picked up silver and bronze behind Cafundeu's Renato Mesquita. Andy Drummond was seventh for Kura-Pelland and Eddie Teigen nowhere.

The Beningrad Morning Star

Day six of the Third Winter Olympics and Kate Bucksway claimed a historic first Sorthern Northland Olympic medal in the women's downhill event. A smooth run gave her a time of one minute fifty six point zero six seconds and a third place finish. Speaking exclusively to The Beningrad Morning Star she said, "I'm so proud to have won Sorthern Northland's first ever Olympic medal and I hope it's the first of many to come for myself and for my nation."

Elsewhere in Revena today, Jonathon King was unlucky to miss out on a second SN bronze medal of the day as he finished fourth in the men's moguls behind Ouakmybush's George Kelly, Mark Meaker finished in 23rd for SN. A poor run from Arthur Adsley meant he finished in last place in the final of the Men's Halfpipe. The Sorthern Northland women's ice hockey team beat Qazox 4-1. Jonathon Wossley and Kenny Kay-Kay both disappointedly in the men's luge with times of 53.475 seconds and 53.905 respectively. In the Women's Halfpipe Final Syntyche Stevenson has a lot of work to do if she is to finish in the medal positions after she scored just 14.8 in the first run of the final.

Single silver: snowboarding shocker
Accusations fly, fans in shock as snowboarders fizzle in Revena

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r56/kelchek/revena07-3.jpg
Lyndis Lemaire getting some air during her silver-winning run. She won Kelssek's only snowboarding medal yesterday in a result that has provoked much disappointment and controversy.

REVENA - It's snowboarding Kelssek was expecting several medals from, but in a shocking result, Kelssek has taken only one of the six on offer after nearly sweeping the podium in Keto, leading to both recriminations and conspiracy theories.

Andy Gregan, Alexander Marcion, and Mark Hendon finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the men's halfpipe event, while Lyndis Lemaire won the silver in the womens' competition, with Jeanne Carpentier, Laurie Shekania and Leann Forget finishing fifth, sixth and seventh, unable to match the stellar first run of Cafundéu's Kelly Osorio.

When Colin Patterson failed to make the final round altogether, his complaints about the judging standards seemed little more than a minor detail from a disappointed competitor. But with these results, a storm of controversy has been stirred by fans who feel that the Kelssekians were denied their rightful scores and medals.

"We were robbed. I can't understand what on earth the judges were seeing out there, because it sure wasn't the same thing we were seeing," Evan Deakinson, a fustrated Kelssek supporter said, even as he conceded that Osorio deserved the gold in the women's competition. "But the guys were truly robbed. Alex[andre Marcion] and Mark [Hendon] were second and third after the first run and they panicked and gave others higher scores the second time around. It was almost like they did not want Kelssek to dominate the medals again."

His passion wasn't matched by Andy Gregan, however, who said that "I can't give a shit if I win or not. I had fun and I got to show off to the whole world what I've got. Scores and medals are just bogus." The other snowboarders echoed this somewhat, asserting it was recognition rather than medals they were after.

But it's more than just a surprising, anomalous blip. Kelssek's winter athletes have been putting in a sub-standard performance all round and an overall slump can be seen in the anemic three silvers garnered so far. The hockey rink is about the only place where Kelssekians are performing as expected. Elsewhere, it's been heart-dropping stuff, particularly when the Olympic record-holding men's short track relay team placed third from last and a long way from qualifying for the final.

However, some experts do have an answer why. Dr. Laura Spoldak, an expert in sports medicine who works at the Kelssek Institute for Sport, says the August winter games have got Kelssek's athletes at a seasonal disadvantage.

"Normally, they'd be hitting peak performance during winter, and at this time they'd be normally just warming up. The reorganisation of the schedule from having the winter games during the Kelssek summer can't have helped them." says Dr. Spoldak.

Whatever the reasons though, a repeat of Keto's medal haul is no longer a realistic hope.

And here's the latest news from the third Winter Olympics in Revena. Edward City's Waylon Swaitzer has won the gold in the men's 12.5km biathlon pursuit, just seconds ahead of Bjorn Morzinger of Commerce Heights. Fabien Villeneuva was 22nd in that event but 20km silver medallist Brandon Shelley finished much further back and was surprisingly far off the pace. In cross country skiing the gold in the women's team sprint event has gone to the pair for Estresse Intenso. The hosts Quakmybush picked up a silver medal and the bronze went to Edward City. Kelssek has beaten Vephrall 7-5 in men's curling, but the disappointments continued in men's figure skating where Patrick Wilm was 16th and Jean-Claude Chamonix 17th. The gold in that event was taken by Silvio Alves Norusco of Cafundeu.

Kelssek's chef de mission in Revena Harold Eger has warned against excessive pessimism but also admitted that he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performances at the Games. Kelssek so far has won only three silver medals from eight days of competition which included only one silver from snowboarding, the event expected to have supplied most of the medals.

After a 3 hour postponement due to heavy snow, the 3rd run of Men's Luge saw Jean-Luc Crusher post a time of 51.46 moving him up to 3rd Overall. Wesley Riker with a good time of 51.77 jumped up to 6th Overall, while William Picard with a time of 53.33 is still stuck in 43rd place.

Ivan Terrib is not having a good Olympics, as he failed to qualify for the Men' 1000m short track event with a time of 1:32.459 in 42nd. "And of course, Kelvin McCrae has qualified for the men's snowboard cross final."

"Indeed, and anything could happen." Terry said.

"Stay tuned for some Olympic highlights coming up after the show," said Paul, "after the break we'll have news of some hot transfers from the KHL."

In fact, all they had to report was a rumour that Neville Keanes was being signed by the derby rivals of his club the Kirkenes Dragons, which was completely ridiculous given that the Dragons would set their own arena on fire and attempt insurance fraud before letting their captain sign for the Rangers and that Keanes had just signed a 2-year contract for an obscene sum of money. But the alternative was to dwell on the fact that the Free Pacific States and Coocoostan were both ranked higher on medals and frankly ratings were plummeting already, particularly after one of the tabloids came out with a story that they'd had witch doctors place a hex on the Olympic delegation.

Chettiere wins silver in Nordic combined

KIRKENES COURIER SPORTS BUREAU

REVENA - Kelssek has won a fourth silver at the Third Winter Olympics in Revena, Quakmybush, as Ariel Chettiere finished second in the Women's Nordic combined Gundersen, behind the home favourite Hazel Castillo and ending a drought of medals stretching over five days of competition for Kelssek in what has been the weakest Olympic performance seen yet.

Although Castillo had the gold wrapped up and never seemed to be threatened by the competition, Chettiere had to battle with Tomoko Toshiro (Maineiacs) most of the way and it was a close thing until Chettiere pulled away near the finish.

Chettiere was predictably overjoyed at the win and credited her coach Phillippe Olivier "for the dedication and astounding encouragement he has given me."

"I think I had greater endurance in the end," she said of the race itself, "so I was able to just keep going. It's because of the training that I have gone through," she said in French at a press conference after the medal presentation.

Chettiere's first move was to call her family in Langlois (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Langlois) to share the exultation. Her father Mathieu is a former alpine skiing national champion and young Ariel lived for the trips they made to the nearby ski areas during winter.

"My parents mean so much for me, and to tell my father that I won a medal was the most satisfying thing I have achieved so far."

Chettiere also acknowledged the slump that seems to have gripped Kelssek's Olympians and added, "I also hope that my silver will inspire the others to do better and win some more. We need some of that at the Village right now."

Jacques Labrie: And we're now joining Chantale Durocher, live from Revena, Quakmybush, where the Winter Olympics are taking place. Hi Chantale.

Chantale Durocher: Hi Jacques.

Jacques Labrie: Nothing from Oliverry on this thirteenth day of competition in these olympic games, eh?

Chantale Durocher: There were no Oliverrians competing today. But; yes there is a but, there were still competitions today. No medals awarded, but it could be interesting to relate about the competitions.

Jacques Labrie: Ok. Go ahead while I get my pillow to sleep while the camera doesn't focus on me

Chantale Durocher: Alright. the men's cross-country Team sprint Quarter-final saw Quakmybush finish 1st, Taphel finish 2nd and Kelssek 3rd. The three other qualifiers are Lovisa, Edward City and Cafundéu. All finished between an hour, err... a minute from the leader.

Jacques Labrie: Stop making mistakes, you're waking me up. Continue... *yawns*

Chantale Durocher: Ok err... The Men's Skeleton competition saw its first run today. Bill Barnard takes momentarily the lead with a 58.06 time, while Eddie Hindmarsh follows 0.22 seconds behind and Jamie Larson just 0.02 seconds behind the latter. In the Women Snowboard Cross Qualifying, Quakmybush dominated when Kathleen Kramer and Angela Davis finished 1st and 2nd. Haruhi Kinamoto completes the top 3. To finally conclude today's competitions, The women Team Pursuit Semi-Final has seen Quakmybush and Vephrall qualify to the Gold Medal final while Cafundéu and Jasiyun are heading to the Bronze Medal.

Now, to the Medals table:
*screen switches to the following one*

Nothing has changed from yesterday. Cafundéu still leads the medal tally with 6 golds, while Quakmybush is 2nd with 5 golds, 4 silvers and 6 bronzes and JSY is 3rd with 5 golds, 4 silvers and no bronze. Oliverry has no medal so far. That's it!

Yoshida, Effenham bag a bronze
5 SEPTEMBER 2007 - REVENA

Nathan Yoshida and Terry Effenham have taken bronze medals in men's cross-country skiing, bringing Kelssek's total in Revena to five medals.

They placed third out of sixth in the team pursuit event, behind an intense tussle for the gold between Edward City and hosts Quakmybush. Both teams pushed each other to the limit in the event, which requires each skiier to race over a distance of 1.35km, treating the audience to a thrilling battle not usually seen in an endurance sport. However, the home crowd were disappointed as Jorge Alonso and Xavi Monté were the ones who eventually won a well-deserved gold.

Kelssek's athletes have now won four silvers and one bronze after fourteen days of competition.

United Commonwealth takes home first medal!

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/olympics/2002/images/daily_images/day14/sc.jpg
Ella Bruns of St. Myhre, Alberta, Delesa makes her second run.

Quakmybush - On day 12 of the medal drought 3rd NS Winter Olympics, the United Commonwealth was alble to snatch the silver medal, the first medal to be handed to an Delesian athlete in this competition. Ella Bruns of St. Myhre made an amazing 01:00.55 & 01:00.51 on the runs. She cried when the medal was placed around her neck by Quakmybush officals. She had made history for the Commonwealth. For the first time in history, Delesa steped ou into the international community with it's athletes and after 12 intense and medal dry days Ella took silver, bringing honour to her family, and her nation.

"I took the runs just like I do training. I remained calm all the way through, right to the bottom. I think this medal really should go to my coaches and their exellent training they have put me through." she said in an interview after the results. Her helmet has already been repainted with the silver medal, and Ella has already returned to the track.

"She was an exellent person to work with. Her smile was just a good enough reason to get out of bed everyday. Even when she messed up on a run, she would get up and shake it off, smiling all the way back to the start. She learned quickly and wouldn't quit till she got all the corners perfected. Yeah she slipped a few times durring her run, but it's her first appearance. He couldn't expect anymore from this girl." comments the head coach Sarah McDowels outside the hotel.

We congratulate Ella on her achievement and the countless other altheles around the world on their successes.

Jean Benoît: And now, we head to the sports. Hi Chantale.

Chantale Durocher: Hi Jean.

Jean Benoît: After some days, Oliverry finally had some people competing for us, right?

Chantale Durocher: Yes. In Short Track, 1500m qualifying for women. As it was the qualifying, no medals were awarded, and that's a good thing for the Oliverrians, as no one of them ended in top 3. So let's see what happened. The first heat saw Annica van Koetsveld, from Lovisa, being disqualified as she did two false starts. Two false starts result in a disqualification in speed skating. Heat 3 saw the first Oliverrian, as Danielle Voyer was skating with Junia Moreira, from Cafundéu, Daniela Vonak, from Estresso Intenso, and Leigh Miles, from Wentland. Both Voyer and Moreira qualified from the heat. In Heat 7, the other Oliverrian skater, Judy Stewart, was skating alongside Vivian Lopez, a Capitalizt, Ingrid Larsson, from Qazox, and the local Elaine Carr. From this heat, Stewart and Lopez advanced. As for Edith Hamilton, another Quakmybushian, she advanced easily from Heat 6, being the only one to advance.

Jean Benoît: Alright. So any other news? I know the organisers never released any schedule...

Chantale Durocher: You're right. But the hosts told us that Hockey and Curling will be featured tomorrow, so watch out for Oliverrian performances.

Jean Benoît: Thank you Chantale.

Cordier fails to qualify

One of the only two Ariddian athletes participating in these Winter Games is 19 year-old Arnaud Cordier. Cordier lives in Bazalonia, the country of his birth and citizenship, but has Ariddian nationality by descent.

Competing in the half-pipe event, the young man scored 26.5 in his first run, leaving him in a disappointing but not unexpected seventeenth place.

The following day, in the second qualifying run, he was only able to score 23.2, finishing again in seventeenth place and dropping out of the competition.

“I’d hoped to do better, of course,” Cordier said. “But it was an honour just being here and representing Ariddia. I did my best.

He is now looking forward to a few days of visiting Revena before heading home to Bazalonia.

Ariddia’s second athlete, Ishwa Mariotti, will be competing in the ladies’ short programme in figure skating.
San Adriano

Peruzzi in with a chance

The sole representative of the Olympics’ smallest participating nation was smiling slightly as he lined up for his first event in his third Olympic Games. He face turned far more serious and focused a few seconds later, and he gave his best in the men’s 1500m qualifiers in short track, as locals cheered him on. As often spectators had chosen to support the now somewhat famous athlete from the tiny village-nation of San Adriano.

Peruzzi clocked a time of 2:26.337, finishing in 36th place. He shook his head as he left, his expression thoughtful.

A grocer by trade, he may come from a country with fewer than five hundred inhabitants, but he did win silver at the Aeropag Games and bronze in Keto, making him an athlete to be reckoned with – and earning him the reward of appearing on all banknotes with a value of five hundred Sanadrianese lira (worth about €17.5 at the current rate of exchange (http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php?nation=San+Adriano)).

“Yes, it’s rather strange,” he told journalists in Revena. “When I’m in my grocery store, a customer will hand over a banknote with my own face printed on it. Well, alongside Sabrina’s (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Sabrina_Vannucci) and Benjamin’s (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Benjamin_Eash). It’s a bit disconcerting, sometimes, but these days I barely even notice.”

Peruzzi had to wait eight days before competing again, and made the most of it to visit the city – sightsee, explore museums, bars, and buy souvenirs. Oh, and continue training hard, he adds. Then it was back on the ice rink for the one kilometre short track qualifiers, and this time the Sanadrianese lived up to his reputation, qualifying in eighth place with a time of 1:27.434.

“If I win another medal, it will be for my family, friends, Her Royal Highness (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Serena_Eu) and the whole country,” he said. “It would be the fifth medal ever won by San Adriano at the Olympics. That’s something to strive for.”
