Summary
Surprise, surprise, Hangyeong have won the IFA Cup. This comes amid news that the Hangyeong FC is planning to build a smaller capacity stadium for their home matches, just so that they won't have to play at their home stadium for the Cup final matches, but the way that they've been playing, they probably belong there. But with their victory over Seoan Gukjei, who have once again just come up just short of winning some major piece of silverware from Hangyeong. And beyond their IFA Cup win, they're also still in contention for winning the League title as well, having secured qualification to the TQCC in the highest seed. They beat Shimyang to the spot, with the last 6 days being primarily an indirect contest for points, whereby Shimyang gave up the greater of the two teams, although losing to Gamsuk away and to Taehaeng at home certainly kept the race reasonably close. In the end though, Hangyeong had a point in hand and stole away the win against Malla Gukjei, while Shimyang could only afford a draw against Jjambongga.

Bring us to the bottom of the table.

Malla Gukjei have been finding it hard to find their true form after losing Souloy, among other things. Fortunately, they've given themselves enough leg room to try to and squeeze out of the bottom part of the table, if only they can try to knock out some of their other contenders. Sanghae, on the other hand, have been brutally horrible. 3 wins out of a possible 19? And these guys are supposed to be good! Bong Junho made his return to the club, but that seems to have done very little for the club's performance; they're still pitiable.

In the middle of the table, Sanghae Gukjei have been continuing their recent good form, and despite failing to make the cut to qualify for the TQCC, thanks to Hangyeong winning the IFA Cup (the one thing for which they can thank them), they're heading to the Globe Cup. And thanks to Seoan Gukjei losing the IFA Cup Final, Sanghae Gukjei will take the second seed (and they really don't need to thank them for that, being just 2 points off from each other). Cheonjin, despite failing to make the TQCC, have continued their impressive form, and the reports have been in fact confirmed that their semi-legendary manager Manuel Padaria will be leaving for a stint to try and revive the Samseong-affiliated Rio Bonito club in his home country. Not to say that Padaria has left his influence upon Cheonjin - they won the Emperor's Cup some years ago because of his tactical finesse, although they haven't always shared in the spoils of victory consistently. We'll be wishing good luck as he tries to reform the spoiled the team into a competent footballing club. Meanwhile, Cheonjin are half-way through and they need a new manager. EEK! Maybe that was a bad idea...

The lesser-known NFL hopes to ship a few players to the Han to gain some higher-level international experience. Most of them will be easily bought, because Norwellians are dirt-poor, and their clubs won't ask for big transfer fees (it'd all be eaten up by taxes anyway).

Projected WC46 lineup: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14693076&postcount=25
DBC9 lineup: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14677179&postcount=18

If you'd like, please take a gander at these lists and tell me if you're interested in signing anyone, then we'll talk a little more about the RP implications. Vermeeren and Frost are the only ones who absolutely won't go (they're too wrapped up in local politics); a few others have interesting RP notes to them, but everyone else is signable.

Thanks

Summary

So the biggest story is that Sanghae isn't under threat of relegation anymore!!! In fact, they've moved quite comfortably near the middle echelons of the league table and while they won't likely be heading away to the International Club Cups, they'll be happy to have done more than just survived. They've managed to pull off an impressive not-losing streak (which is important at this stage) before being knocked back to Earth by Hanseong (both teams, that is, back to back). Despite those two losses, they're set astride at 14th place with 38 points, 5 more than needed. Meanwhile, Hangyeong had retaken the pole position, after Seoan Gukjei narrowly stole it on goal difference. Shilla and Shimyang complete the top quartet looking to qualify for the TQCC, which oddly looks a lot like the same teams that won the TQCC qualification for the Gaeshi-dae.

Speaking of which... where's Gamsuk gone? Down the tables. Once proudly at 4th place, the former league runners-up have made a tumble, hardly earning 4 points from their last 6. Sanghae Gukjei, having seemingly fought off the evil sprites of summer, are still in contention to win something from this season. After seasons of perennially almost winning but failing miserably when it counts, Gang Sangsang seems to have found some winning combination to an otherwise static team. Hanseong Gukjei, yet to win anything special, are also in top contention, just narrowly edging over their city counterparts by a single point. In fact, the two teams recently had what has already been termed a "classic" in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Hanseong. What was a vital point for Sanghae Gukjei was a lost 2 points, as Baek Junggwi had two goals scored within the last two minutes to even up the score. He even had a chance to score a hat trick, as well as win the game, but Eri Ito had the goal quite easily covered for that attempt.

And we take a quick turn back to Shilla, who despite holding the league's best defensive record, managed to succomb to Gwangdong 3-0 at Gwangju the other day. Gwangdong has been one of those teams to perennially fall ill to great talents but poor finishing when it really matters, and MD30 was just one of those occasions. Besides Cheonjin, Gwangdong is one of those former great teams that is still just so great but can't quite find its fine touch to win the games that it needs. But having dismantled Shilla's stellar defense, they went on win 3-1 away at Seoan. Perhaps it is too little too late to make a difference, but it's always amusing to find the bright sparks of inspiration in the most likely of places at the most unlikely of times.

Summary

Okay, what precisely can we do about this damned Shilla-Seoan Gukjei rivalry? We've had more riots as result of these two coming into contact than the Han had have going abroad to face against other teams. Perhaps with good reason too. Shilla managed to win the league title today, thumping Seojang 3-1, while Seoan Gukjei could only lament their lost chances in their own 2-0 thumping over city rivals, Taehaeng. By and large though, the team with the best defense in the league has managed once again to keep the goal scoring opportunities for their opponents relatively low, and the goalkeeper of the season is hardly a Han citizen. The Valerian resident, Dmitri Kim, has been playing with Shilla pretty much since his debut in the NFL (and that's a long time ago now), and he seems to have found his place on the team as the premier goalkeeper. And thanks to a largely odd couple sitting at the front - a Vephrese striker, a Qaxian winger, and a Cafundelense midfielder, along with their Han partners - the team has raked in the best GD of the league.

Seoan Gukjei came close. 2 points off winning the league, they only really needed Shilla to lose their last match. And they've had their fair share of good strikes, especially coming from the extremely youthful pair that they've recently received from Starblaydia. There's no doubt that Lii Chongsun influenced that decision, partially because he's here and Starblaydia doesn't have a domestic league - yet (and that's a very big yet, since they seem to have little time to organize one). Unfortunately, neither of the lads managed to rack up the best striker award, despite netting some brilliant chances during the season. That honor will go to Marques, who at times single-handedly led the league. He's quite possibly the best striker that Hangyeong has, and unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have the midfield and defense that Jeong Jihun once had. I mean, how do you let Joseon beat you? Kim Jongguk might be the primary goalkeeper off the Han Imperial Squad, but if we had a choice, Dmitri Kim would be there.

And so we turn our attention to Zeph Yan Yin, who's managed to help turn Hanseong Gukjei into a respectable team. Titenberg and company have once again experienced the pain of almost qualifying for the TQCC, not that it's a recurring theme or whatever. But Hanseong Gukjei is perhaps the one team in the Han Empire that makes the rubber chicken industry economically viable as they paraded their mass burning of rubber chickens outside the stadium. I'm not sure what Viella organizers would think of the affair, especially in relationship to their godness Elune. Apparently, Elune was not pleased, as they lost 1-0 to Wunnam that same day. Of course, they can pleased that they helped rescue Wunnam from the threat of relegation. And who beat them to the spot? That would be Shimyang, who will be thanking their lucky stars that thy actually got a win against Jjambongga. Unfortunately, they couldn't say the same about rescuing Jjambongga as they seemingly forced their heads back under the water.

At least Sanghae wasn't drowning by the time we started this publication. They did draw away at Cheonjin, but it wasn't a life or death situation. Doubtless Sanghae fans will be looking to do more than just survive, which is what they pretty much did after the Gaeshi-dae. Bong Junho has outlived his usefulness, and they need new strikers, lost ever since Kim Daeeui left for Albrecht FC. But we're not suggesting that they're dead yet. In contrast, Sanghae Gukjei has had a better than usual season. They were at least in contention for more than just points; earlier they were close to getting into the top echelon, and after some slipping, they've managed find themselves comfortably at 8th position. In contrast to last season...

Gwangdong and Cheonjin - both very good teams. Cheonjin actually managed to get the most goals of the league and had a healthy goal difference. Of course, they let things like losing get in their way of making a permanent return to the top ranks. Gwangdong were closer, having done somewhat better on the defensive end with the loan/acquisition of one of the best defenders in the world - a Yaforite. Yes, their perennial obsession makes them among those people you'd stick in front of a goal anyday (and I mean in the way to stop a shot, as opposed to make a shot). Jung Ilbon seemed of like mind when he brought in Acurivan to the team (for a lot of money, almost insane amounts). But it just goes to show that he knew that defense was struggling. And the result was a competent finish.

On the opposite end, Malla Gukjei managed to save themselves from relegation by getting a draw against Hangyeong on the very last day. On any other day, it wouldn't have been enough, but Joseon failed to take their own advantage. As a result, Dário will be looking out for a way to get more firepower that returning Souloy home caused. Yi Cheonsu is a good striker, but they lost their two biggest scoring contributors last season, and have demonstrably suffered for it. Perhaps... getting a better somewhat more competent keeper could help too. In the meantime, Sanseo, Seojang, and Jjambongga will be making their possible return to the Majestic Division, after a range of stays within the Heavenly Division. Seojang, once a threat to the top leaders of the league, apparently ran out of steam, and they'll have to hope that their MD counterpart won't do any damage to them.

Emperor's Cup - Round 4
Round 4
Hangyeong 1-2 Shilla
Sanghae Gukjei 1-0 Shingang

Round 5
Shilla --- Sanghae Gukjei

Isn't this a surprise. Shilla and Sanghae Gukjei? Nothing against them - we were just expecting Seoan Gukjei, just because of the intense rivalry. In fact, Seoan Gukjei made their exit in Round 2. Anyway, Sanghae Gukjei and Hanseong Gukjei can thank their lucky stars to Shilla for already winning the League, which means that they pretty much get the rubber stamp out into the Globe Cup. Yeah - they changed the format for the ICC qualification, pretty much leaving out the somewhat obsolete Promotional Play-offs. That means we get to see happy days come back to the HD, who thought that they were being robbed of their last TQCC slot to some n00bs in the MD or any other division. As to who will actually win this match... who cares?

Emperor's Cup Final

Shilla 2-0 Sanghae Gukjei
GOAL - Rints Denosone (SHL): 56'
GOAL - Shin Taegon (SHL): 79'

Despite failing to score, Januário won MOTM, having set up both goal opportunities and having run up and down the pitch to make sure that Sanghae Gukjei were virtually neutralized on all fronts. The only unfortunate thing to see is that Gang Sangsang's chance for a trophy in as many years goes down yet another proverbial drain after poor finishing and poor midfield play. Defense again was key for both teams, as Dmitri Kim and Yim Hwisu had a face-off to see whose mettle would break first. Unfortunately for Yim, the Vephrese striker was fully on target after Januário played a neat trick around Shin Gangrim to leave the goal fully exposed. One consolation was that the deadlock held for nearly an hour before Shilla's offensive pressure finally broke out. On the other end, Yi Cheonseok had one brilliant opportunity soon after the goal to level the score, but Dmitri Kim had just enough length to cover the stretch of the goal posts and knock the ball out. It was the only real opportunity that Sanghae Gukjei had, and Shilla made them pay dearly for failing to control the match any better, when Shin Taegon tucked away the winner. Game over, and Shilla wins the first double... ever. At least they weren't playing against Seoan Gukjei, or else this might have turned out to be nasty.

Might any of your clubs be interested in hiring any Bears (or Harr'aynau humanoids, or Foxes), and if so then would they want these for any specifc roles in their squads? I can't guarantee the availability of more members of our national team, but if you are interested then I'll look around the First Division's sides for suitable people who'd be willing to move...
