The Republic of Ullriah has been founded! RoU is a liberal nation (UN Category: Left Leaning College State!), it enjoys superb civil rights, excellent political freedom, and a good economy.

We have a small population of 5,000,000 at the moment, but we hope for that to grow, and our application to join the United Nations is currently under consideration.

Ullriah undergoes presidential elections every four years, with elections for the House of Commons (Lower House) and the Chamber of Magnates (upper House) occurring every two years (half of the seats are up for election every two years).

The current President of Ullriah is Sigmund Tellerman, who is also Leader of the Democratic Socialist Party. Tellerman has been in the post for 8 years, with the next election occurring in a few months. There is no limit to how long a President can serve, however it is rumoured that the Democratic Socialists in the Magnate Chamber are plotting a coup for a "young, dynamic" leader to take Tellerman's place at the next election.

The Democratic Socialists, in coalition with the Liberal Democrats, have a majority in the Commons (elected by the Alternative Vote system) over the Conservative Party.

In the Chamber of Magnates, traditionally elected by First Past the Post, the Democratic Socialists have a more comfortable majority, but are still coming under tough competition in the polls from the Conservative Party. The coming elections will be very tight.

The Republic of Ullriah looks forward to working with other nations for a better future. (I hope I did this right!) :D
