Star date 2164 Chief magistrates office.

The middle aged brown haired blue eyed man looked down at a glassy LCARS like console and tapped a few buttons on it, he peered over report after report of riots and famine throughout the Republic. He grumbled gently to him self placing a hand to move to the next slide. He sighed again and sat back on his black leather like chair as he saw yet more reports of riots and people being fed up with the government, local police forces were starting to be overwhelmed with the sheer number of discontent citizens. The Magistrate was already thinking of a plan to do some thing, his hands quickly darted down from his chin to a console taping it. A blip could be heard as his hand slammed down almost violently on the console. He said in a hard but clam voice.

“Delores, please send in Bester..” a response came quickly. “Yes sir right away” a soft female voice could be heard. Suddenly an even older man walked in, “Bester Kayborn at your service sir” he said in a British voice. The magistrate looked up to him and nodded, sighing and saying in a hard calm voice like he did last time. “Bester, we need to find a new home, as you can see every thing is going to shit, and our economy cant support people crowded in to this belt to much longer..” Bester nodded back saying in his accent with a soft voice. “Yes sir but what do we do?”... a pause happened for a few moments and then the Magistrate responded. “Well we find a new home, we have all these ships around, lets make use of some. I have received reports that a nearby star system of Janus could be inhabitable, I want you to order a scout team to that area and check it out, its our only hope....”

Bester nodded and responded quickly “yes sir” he then turned quickly and walked out of the ornately decorated office filled with light. 0900 hours Standard Lokii time.. a small to mid sized fleet of ships floated in the ominous darkness of space, they're nacelles glowing a dull blue as they're hull glimmered and shimmered gently in the light of sol. The ships rumbled and floated along waiting for orders from Central command. Capitan Tom braxton was on the URS Vesta, the first heavy cruiser commissioned by the Republic, it was five hundred and twenty five meters long its nacelles were big, and its engine power could get it most places quickly with out stopping for refuel . He stood on the well lit utilitarian looking bridge and sighed, his hands on a forward rail , as he leaned over to peer with his green eyes at the abyss. The fleet was composed of two vesta class cruisers, three Republic class light cruisers, four Ares class frigates, and three Venus class destroyers. Suddenly the tactical officer notice that the comns were blinking, he taped the glowing button and a message of departure came up. Braxton smiled a bit saying to him self ~finally!~ he steeped off of the lower section and near to his chair and sat down. His hands already moved up to his lap he said in a hard confident voice. “lets get the fleet moved out, engage Hyper drive. Suddenly the mid sized fleet of ships began flying towards the heavens there body's glimmering in the light as they folded and warped out of existence in a blink of an eye.

Several hours later, the fleet arrived at Janus, they were greeted by a baby sun, its glowing hot soft yellow surface lighting up the system, reflecting off the hulls of the ships, They're were quiet a few planets.. 11 in the system in fact. The fleet could detect no life on any of the outer ones.
“Report Ensign!” the tactical officer looked up the to captain and said. “nothing to report yet, we're going to have to get closer to the systems sun to get any good readings on the inner planets.” the captain nodded sitting back on his chair, he looked over to the helm officer who was taping away at her console vigorously. He said in a hard confident voice again . “All right Helm set a course to the center of the system Full speed, use micro light engines if you have to.” the helms officer nodded taping on her console again, the fleet rumbled and moved forward quickly, micro light engines folding space slightly ahead of them so they could move small factors faster than light speeds, the ships shimmered in the light of the star that was as bright like the torch of heaven.

Hjltraq was busy compiling statistics to send back to their home in Centersol. This solar system at least has enough material for the process. Hjiltraq hates this part of its duty most. Everything else is just intersting and fascinating, but reporting back always has the unpleasant sensation of control. He knows that this is an atavism, but then he sometimes feels as if his entire character is atavistic. Maybe this is a requirement to be able to handle the mission. It is almost pleasantly surpised when its sensors detect this thing appearing. The size means nothing good: either they are classes above him or they are biological. Both makes the uploadee uncomfortable. Biological even more than hyper-intelligent upload indiviuals. Biological civilisations are ressource hogs and can be a real pain in the ass if they do not get the resources they need. It ponders just ignoring the trouble, but of course is reminded of its ethical code - and that compiling the stats and let the nanoassemblers do their compiling is worse. It sends a message to the visitors, 1024 digits of pi in binary representation.

Unknown to the crew of the vesta a smaller almost microscopic ship in was in the area, it was so small it could not be registered on sensors as a significant source of power , the ships headed closer to the center of the system, there fusion impulse drives red hot as they stopped from micro faster than light jumps. They're bodies were glimmering in the light of the young star, the rays bouncing off they're hulls and reflecting the white and Grey plating upon them. The ships floated and rumbled ominously towards a blue planet, it was a jewel in the cruel dark area of space its body surrounded by blackness and emptiness. Braxton stood on the bridge peering outside with a smile his eyes panning on the view of the large planet out side . He looked over to the tactical officer and said. “Well looks like we found our new home, hopefully...” the tactical officer looked back and nodded with a concurrence in his shake. The captain said to the helms officer waving his hand gently. “Half Impulse speed, prepare a probe for launch” the officer nodded back and said “yes sir” .

The large Vesta class cruiser launched a small three meter projectile from one of its many large tubes, it rushed forth out in to oblivion towards this magnificent planet. The fleet lay there slowly gliding behind the probe that was broadcasting signals back and forth taking data on the atmosphere composition and other aspects around the planet. The planet was surrounded by two moons one smaller than the other, one was covered by ice it seems from the scans. The other barren.
The tactical officer tapped on his console gently peering at the scans, with a sigh he looked over to the captain.

“Well sir it seems that this planet is just right, but.. the two moons might provide for a tidal problem.” the captain looked back and nodded that off moving his hand gently. “Don't worry about that, thats for the planers to figure out , right now we just found our selves a new home, we should celebrate..”

The tactical officer nodded “yeah your right” He smiled a bit as the crew stood up for a toast, an officer wandering out with champaign, he placed a glass in each hand of the bridge crew and pooped the bottle, some dribbles pouring on the floor as he filled each glass. The captain smiled a little proposing a toast. The tactical officer suddenly hit a button activating a two way comn through the probe . Over it could be heard. “Well to the future, to peace, and to prosperity, here here!” the captain smiled a bit as he and the crew clapped and cheered to there new found home.

The planetary scans were pouring in , massive coastal flood plains, the climate was similar to the Cretaceous period on earth, massive tropical forest dominated the southern contents up to the middle of the north, other pine and tropical mix with deciduous forests dominated the north and west. The ocean seemed to be aqua blue in color to the very north and south of the planet, geologic activity was rampant, volcanoes were billowing clouds of smoke in to the air providing for rain and fertility.

It seemed to be a time capsule as well as a treasure troll of life and activity as well as support.

The data was promptly being transmitted back to HQ for analysis and hasty debate ,mean while the vesta had dispatched several beacons around the area claiming it for the republic.

"Ressourcehogs" Hjiltraq tried to calm down when he saw how they rushed to the planet ignoring his attempts of contact. At least they seemed to be uninterested in the small planets so this asteroid is not at risk. Home of Many houses billions in its 8 kilometer diameter and these biological beings are so unefficient... The beacon, which transfers the information home was ready and about to launch while the nanoassemblers worked on the duplication of the ship for the next level. The beacon was small, even by Hjiltraq's standards, but FTL-capable. He aimed at his home solar system and then sent the shipsie. The shipsie accelerated and near the foreign tthing went into FTL. It never looked like it was about to hit the foreigners, it just passed by before the hyperspace swallowed it. It would take weeks until it would return the shipsie back into normal space. Hjiltraq shifted its attention to the foreign ship and wondered if the noticed.

In the meanwhile, the USS West Virginia, the famous Allanean exploration vessel, dropped into realspace just about three and a half light seconds away from the Lokii.

Visualize a vessel about thirty meters in length, decorated on one end with fake cow horns about six meters wide, painted in red and armed with a variety of weapons. Visualize now six men living in cramped conditions aboard the small vessel, one that started it's life as a licensed Allanean Arms-made Hughie Mark II patrol vessel.

"Unknown vessel, dis is Captain McCoy, of the USS West Virginia. Howdy, y'all."

"This is Hjiltraq 101, soon to be Hjiltraq 203. Exploration vessel of Ljeqvujku class, Uploaded minds" Hjiltraq samples this text out of human speech. The names of himself are not sampled, instead they sound hissed and whispered as if a snake learned to speak. Hjiltraq sends a focussed transmission with this text to the Allaneans. unless someone would stand directly in the way of the message, no one would be able to eavesdrop. This is no paranoia, for a ship in the size of Hjiltraq's vessel, energy is very valuable.

The tactical and helm officer looked to there consoles with a few blinks, the placed there hands on them simultaneously starting to work as they peered in to some signals coming in, braxton rubbed his head as he sat back down handing his glass to an officer near by, he placed his hands on his lap folded as he waited wondering what these signals could be. The tactical officer finally responded after a few moments of delay. “Sire one of the signals is coming from a ship that dropped out of faster than light a few AU away baring, one zero mark three two, shall i play the message?” the captain nodded a bit moving his hand to signal him to play.

The tactical officer taped on a glowing button on his glassy console, the message was played audio only, it reverberated strangely around the bridge, braxton had a grin over his face as he hared the message. “these people are explores” he said in a doubtful voice chuckling gently. He sighed again looking over to the tactical officer waving another hand from his lap. “Respond to these southerners in space will you? Send them a message of peace.”

The tactical officer nodded taping his console, then looked over to the captian. “Sire we're detecting tight beam transmssions from an object, our scanners cant pick it up but we do know were its coming from baring, ten one mark zero five eight.. “

The captain responded after leaning back again with a sigh, open a frequency to both ships then. The officer nodded taping his glassy console, a blip could be heard as a frequency was opened, the captain stood up his uniform grayish blue like a jump suit. He started to speak .

“This is the URS vesta, representing the United republic of lokii, we are glad you take interest in our presence here, we would like to inform you our intentions are peaceful in nature, and that we are only looking for a new home, for our people” the message was cut after that and the fleet awaited a response slowing to a stop over the magnificent planet that was in the system. The fleet stood in a V formation scanning and waiting hull lights blinking and lighting up rough but smooth glazed hulls facing away from the light.

Response from the West Virginia to the Lokii.

"A new home, eh? Well, lads, yew have found it. Which don`t, however, mean dat Allanea cannot help yew. Say da werd, `n` thousands of workers `n` cumpanies will greet yore settlers heer, building roads, infrastructure, schools, vehicles, evarythang dat yew need in any way, shape, er form. Need help ta move yore people in? Allanea will provide cargo freighters. We aur da land of unabashed greed, `n` we will supply any need!"

Response to the Uploaded Minds Vessel

"Would you prefer to dock with the West Virginia for your own safety? Our shields and armor seem to be superior to yours."

The explorer did not have the same interpreatition as the Allanean. Would a ship really waste much material and energy to kill a cascade? But then, live is irrational, however Hjiltraq was not able to assign a numerical probability to an emotional reaction which could endanger the execution of this exploration mission. It could however assign a probability of 0.87 that this maneuver would itself interrupt the forkage. Nothing unfixable of course, but an undesirable interruption. It sent to the West Virginia (again directed to save energy): "Evaluation of this situation for Hjiltraq sees no quantified evidence for a threat big enough to interrupt the cascade."

To Lokii it sent: "This instance is Hjiltraq of Uploaded Minds. I am exploring this sector. Aims are contact to species and gain scientific knowledge."

The Vesta sat Now in orbit as it floated gently over the tropical heated planet, its hull glimering gently in the suns light, its body ominously floated over both ships. as Braxton sat back in his chair holding a cup, he started to speak in a diplomatic cool voice.

"Thank you for the offer, its appreciated, but I think Lokii can manage on its own, though we do require some scouting of the planet, if you care to assist, we are also here for that goal, as well as to colonize this sector of space, we can work together if you wish."

another reply was sent to the UM ship "we are also explorers, but we are here mainly to look for a home, how ever, we could gain much by working together, if you agree"

He spoke with a smile as he displayed him self across the system with a view screen, the fleet was split up a bit, ships here and there scouting, and using sensors to scan, they floated around gently the young primal sun glimering off the hull , the brightness over they're bodies staggering.

asteroid belt sol: Colony ships we're already beginning to leave as news of the discovery eased tensions on the belt power, the ships flew out in large numbers warping in to the darkness of space towards they're new home, men children and women all along for the ride, security was tight as marines patrolled the decks of the large colony ships, they're bodies moving through hyper space like a metal sword inside of a soft angelic glow.

The Hjiltraq was about to start the cascade anew. The second ship was nearly completed. For a fraction of a second, the Uploadee felt sorry for those Lokiians, who would be stuck in one form and in one instance for an indetermined amount of time, which they call lifespan. Then this feeling passed and the explorer formed a reply.

"Sharing information is appreciated. This might contain relevant data" This time the tiny ship sent video even though for the casual observer it looked like static due to the high rate of change. If someone took the time to view it frame by frame however, the video contains information, which Hjiltraq thought might be relevant to the settlement there. From tectonic activity to issues with the local ecosystem. The explorer realized that this might not be quite user friendly, but it does not like ineffectiveness.
