(You knew it was coming.)

This is the spot where the brilliant IC post detailing the excitement already building in less-than-metropolitan Noh Weir (population now at a record 256) goes.

Mammoth edit after discussion below: there will be two divisions. Players can sign up for either or both.

Scorinated division:
Each participating nation sends a team of four players (any gender/etc.) and one reserve. Results to be scorinated using a spreadsheet (RP-bonus a significant factor)

Signups:
Quakmybush?
Brutland and Norden
Keyne Island

Real play division:
Each participating nation sends individual representatives (if you have time enough for multiple games, more power to you). Not sure whether we want to play over the forum or an offsite: let me know with suggestions.

Signups:
Linker Neiderrhein
Ambrose-Douglas
Brutland and Norden?
Keyne Island
Zwangzug? (if needed to make up numbers)
Quakmybush

Could do the matches at Pogo.com. They have a good chess program there.
(Qazox is not signing up, just passing along info)

Scorination with a simple spreadsheet. RP-bonus fairly significant, with no former ranks to compare. Unless anybody wants to actually play out matches over gameknot or something (read: biggest RP-bonus of all time!)Given that it's chess, which - unlike football - can be played out over the 'net, scorination doesn't make much sense to me... Granted, it'd have the 'Disadvantage' of allegedly brilliant players turning out to be average at best ('tis would be my case, anyway), but still (Besides, this problem can be avoided by not actually posting the exact moves <.<).

Playing it out, I'm afraid, would a) take far too long and b) discourage some people from entering.

Maybe two divisions?

And if I'm interpreting your last sentence correctly, I wasn't planning on posting move-by-move results (no idea how to scorinate that), just outcome.

well, not playing them out would prevent me from entering :P And generally, a game is faster than writing a post - twenty, thirty minutes max (I always play with time limit @ 10 or 15 minutes).

Assuming your opponent is online at the same time as you.

Which can be organised.

Waiting for a post or waiting for a game - where's the difference?

The difference, in my mind, is that scorination (theoretically at least) comes on a regular schedule, without needing both participants to be actively involved. I'm not willing to bet that everyone that expresses interest will be willing to commit to a scheduled timeframe, particularly considering how many timezones in which we are spread about.

I like this idea. Since we are in this two-tiered system, why don't we turn them into two separate contests: The scorinated division something like The World Chess Olympiad, wherein national teams compete (but sadly, being fairly new to sports RPS, do not know how to do scorinated RP).

The real play part could be an individual world championship, like Interzonals or Linares or Dortmund.

(While we're at it, why don't we create something like an International Chess federation?? ;))

Wholehearted agreement to all of that! First post edited to demonstrate the potential outline.

So all we need are signups. And since this has been bumped from nowhere (not that there's anything wrong with that); come one, come all!

Ambrose-Douglas would like to sign up for the live play category... and are summarilly ready to have our asses handed to us, lol

My previous posts should already make clear what this post is going to signify.

Live play's a go.

I am, after all, a gravedigger.

Depends on when will that real play will be hosted - if it's anytime between today to January next year, I'm afraid I can't join. (And I live in a unique time zone (+8, no DST, so Western Australians and the Chinese'll gonna love me. But for 'mericans, I'll be most likely asleep when you are awake.))

But posting in the scorinated division would be rather fine for me. (Question from a newb: How would the scorinated version run??)

From the home of Greenwich Mean Time (that's UTC+0, with DST)...sign me up for live play!

And scorination play, too!

(and for some reason, I have a (slightly altered) compulsion to move...)

Scorination will be based on a spreadsheet and random numbers, see first post.
